(More customer reviews)I picked up the 327V just before New Year's. I found it in a large electronics chain store for just under four hundred dollars. I knew it did not have a built in tuner, but I didn't need one for what I want to use this for. I got it as a large screen computer display, and for watching my DVDs in my bedroom.
Overall, I must say that this unit has exceeded my expectations. The picture quality is excellent for DVDs. I haven't hooked it up to the computer yet, because it requires a VGA cable that did not come with it (I have a cable on the way).
Anyway, I only have two minor complaints with this unit. One is the bright blue LED that is lit on the power button when the unit is off. It's too bright for my bedroom, so I've had to cover it with tape. The other complaint is that the "universal" remote that I have for my Home Theater Receiver is not able to control this monitor. A "learning" remote is required, at least in most cases. This monitor is too new for the codes to be programmed into most universal remotes.
I purchased a wall mount kit to mount this unit on the wall, and I think it looks excellent there. The mount is a VESA 100mm x 200mm pattern, which doesn't seem like a common size. Many of the mounts I saw were either 100mm x 100mm or 200mm x 200mm. Some were even smaller 75mm x 75mm. I did finally find one that was the right type, and it was very easy to install on the wall, at least for me.
I have used the built in speakers and think that they sound great for what they are, but I'm waiting until I get my home theater speakers set up so I can enjoy the home theater experience. I know that a larger screen makes a better home theater, but my bedroom is too small to make that a practical proposition. This screen feels like it's just the right size for this room, at approximately 14' x 16'.
I would recommend this monitor for anyone looking for something about this size, as long as they don't need to have a built in tuner. If you have a satellite box, cable box, or a VCR, it can work as a tuner. In order to get HDTV functionality, you need an HDTV capable tuner (which most, if not all, VCRs are not). Since it has no tuner, I don't understand why it has buttons for changing channels. This is simply an observation, and is not meant to be a complaint about this monitor.

InFocus LP280 Projector Review

(More customer reviews)I do a lot of PowerPoint presentations at customer and prospect sites and I have come to depend on my InFocus LP280 Projector by In Focus. It is a very good traveling unit. It has very good resolution for a unit in this price range. More importantly, my experience is the unit travels very well. It s well constructed. The carrying case is also very rugged and provides excellent containment and control of the unit on the road while also allowing very quick and clean accessibility at airport check points.
As with all InFocus products, there are some caveats. The operating system is logical but not intuitive. It therefore is key that you take some time to get comfortable with the operation of the unit with the input device you are using BEFORE your big presentation. If you don't, you are guaranteed to look like a doofus no matter how stunning your presentation.
Changing the bulb is not a breeze. If it burns out, take a 15 minute break and take your time. The unit does not come with a spare-buy one up front and carry it with you. Bed advised the bulbs are expensive, even if you can find them at a discount.
The support equipment that comes with the unit is superior. It includes a remote control with batteries, carrying case, VGA Cable, S-video cable, RCA cable, USB cable, PS/2 cable, power cord, documentation set, and lens cap
The unit is compact and very light in comparison to most competitive units-also a plus on the road.
This isn't the unit for top of the line presentations in very large halls-for that you need to bite the bullet and get a superior unit, such as the LS110. However, it goes for over five grand-not the sort of thing you want to be playing "football" with in airports, so to speak.
The unit is warranted for 2 years-a plus, though my experience is finding repair facilities for InFocus is difficult and turnaround is awful.
All in all, a very solid unit and good value for the money.

* it provides a brighter picture than most Home Theatre Projectors at 1200 Lumens
* the picture is very clear
* the colours are accurate and vibrant
* the contrast is average. DLP PJ's like the Infocus X1 have better contrast but u risk seeing rainbow effects with cheap DLP PJ's
* It has a short throw lens so 10 feet gets approx 100 inch diagonal screen so it can suit small rooms down to say 9 x 9 feet
* It doesnt have a genuine zoom feature so placement in a room is limited
* It is SVGA resolution but with the .5 size pixels (instead of .7 on most SVGA PJ's) screen door/pixelation is much reduced. I have it in my 12' by 11' bedroom at a diagonal screen size of approx 95' and it looks supurb.
* Fan sound is about average. It exhausts the air out the front so can be mounted close to a wall
* It doesnt have manual individual colour adjustments. The 5 preset viewing modes will be fine for most, coupled with the ability to adjust contrast/brightness.
* Try to position the PJ at right angles to the screen in order to avoid using keystone correction. The picture looks slightly better if u dont use keystone correction with this PJ.
* The PJ itself is very inexpensive and the replacement lamps are the cheapest i have ever seen. Would be good if the lamp could go more than 2000 hours but since they are so cheap its not so much of an issue.
* Many S1's are sold/have been sold so it should be easy to get replacement items such as lamps in the future.
* Doesnt have a individual component video connection. U have to use the RGB port so if u have a pc u have to share this port. Would have been good to have a seperate component video port.
There are several entry level PJ's which are providing performance at a level previously only found on PJ's much more expensive. At similar to the EPSON S1 price point you could look at Infocus X1, Hitachi CPS210, Sanyo Z1 amongst others.
In Summary Epson S1 - Bright, very clear picture, excellent colours, short throw, cheap globes
Im very happy with the S1. The most important issue above all is the picture and this PJ's picture is crystal clear, bright and vibrant.

(More customer reviews)We purchased this laptop here on Amazon just before Black Friday 2009. We paid $309 even though it was $249 at Best Buy the following week. After getting it home and realizing the single core Celeron 900 was an absolute dog of a processor, I went on eBay and bid $41.66 for a Pentium dual-core T4300 processor. I installed that and bumped the memory up to 3GB from 2GB using a PC2-5300 chip I had available from another machine. PC2-6400 memory can be used but it does increase temperatures inside the laptop. To put it simply, the computer now flies. Video is clean, clear, and stutter-free. It does not hang at times during booting. It does not freeze or lock up when multitasking. I use it as my primary computer and it blows away every desktop I've owned in the past few years. To be honest, I don't use it as a laptop, but as a desktop. I use an ASUS 23.6" LCD monitor (full 1080p video on a VGA connection), Logitech optical mouse and USB speakers, Kensington Keyboard For Life, and I just stick the laptop in my keyboard tray, put my external keyboard on the desk itself, and it's perfect.
This laptop can game. The Intel HD graphics (X4500MHD) is on-board, but it is THE BEST on-board graphics set you can get today. The performance is comparable to any of the following modern PCI Express cards:
ATI Radeon HD 4550
ATI Radeon HD 5450
nVidia 9400GT
nVidia 9500GS
nVidia 9500GT
nVidia GT120
It delivers close to 8600GT performance as well. I couldn't be happier with this laptop-as-a-desktop.
The computer having 3 USB ports is a slight problem, but a 4-in-1 USB hub solved that. I now have all ports in use and one free plug on the hub for flash drives, camera docks, printers, and other such temporary connections. It does not have a webcam (I use an external model) and it has no card reader (I have a microSD adapter and will be getting a full-size SD to USB adapter soon, but worst case, I can plug an SD card into my Kodak camera and unload it from there using my camera dock). The laptop's case appears to support these upgrades and other models of Extensa (5630 for example) do have these options. But a deep research into the computer's service manual shows that the card reader cannot be added to this motherboard.
Other processors that do absolutely for a fact work with this motherboard, chipset, and BIOS include:
Stock Celeron 900 (2.2GHz)
Celeron dual-core T3000
Celeron dual-core T3100
Pentium dual-core T4200
Pentium dual-core T4300
The T3200, T4400, and T4500 should also work fine as they are in the same processor family (Penryn-3M standard voltage, socket P) they are just newer models than when this GL40 chipset was introduced.
The T4300 does not have a noticeable heat increase over the Celeron 900, a degree or two hotter at idle, but identical under load. A T4500 might see another degree here or there. Other chips like Core 2 Duos may work in theory but may run hotter. These include T6400, T6500, T6600, T6570, T6670, T8100, T8300, and some later T9300/T9500 steppings,
Do NOT discount this computer, or any other cheap laptop with the GL40 chipset, for having a single core Celeron in it. These dual-core Celerons and Pentiums can be bought for $50 or less and provide a much needed kick in the rear as far as performance in daily use. The third GB of RAM just provides an extra cushion against slow operating when you're really busy. A $300 or $400 laptop with a $50 processor and $50 in RAM upgrades is now equal to a $700 model. Anyone who bought one of these at Best Buy for $249 just gets to do it cheaper than the rest of us.

(More customer reviews)this laptop is a beast for the price. i got it on sale at a different online vendor (the egg of course) for $400 and what can i say. for $400 i got a laptop that can play resident evil 5 and bioshock 2 (mostly low settings, maybe a few medium at 1280*720) at around 20-35 frames per second. it boots fast and as ddr3. the stickers are easy to remove from the wrist rest surface. I replaced the stock 5400 rpm hard drive with a 7200rpm WD scorpio black 320gb which probably has something to do with the quick booting and reasonable gaming. I also reinstalled windows 7 64-bit to instantly drop the bloatware that comes on the laptop. the keyboard doesn't sag at all so the heavy typers out there will be pleased. the trackpad is great, the surface allows your finger to glide without friction ( a rare feature on most laptops). plus it has hdmi out so you can watch movies in hi-def on you LCD or Plasma Or LED tv's. the screen is bright and has great color. it has gigabit ethernet and wireless N. No bluetooth though, its no biggie. For $400 i got the best deal in the world. Just buy it, even at the price offered here its still a great buy.

(More customer reviews)We purchased this laptop in 2006 or 2007 when we had dial up and now we still have it and use it as our family's primary computer. Don't get me wrong, we are ready for an upgrade but this computer really lasted us well. We have teenagers and no one is gentle with it. Although I know people complain about Vista, we haven't had any issues with it. You can burn CD's, edit pictures, watch movies, connect it to the TV, all basic things with no issues. Definitely a worthy investment. We did upgrade the memory when we bought it though since it didn't come with much...super easy to install though.

It is the most reasonably priced considering that it's an HP and an entertainment laptop. I actually paid $1200 for my previous laptop with less memory/GBs, heavier is weight and size, and only lasted 'til my warranty. Finding this computer was a life-saver because I am a college student seeking to get into grad school and a cooperative laptop is extremely necessary....and I'm glad that I picked this one (after searching for months and not finding any thing in my price range). (More customer reviews)I would recommend this computer for anyone who wishes to own a computer with a number pad, low cost, and fairly good insides. The down side is the lack of a battery life. This is over come by the prepossessing power, and number pad in my opinion. I have no major issues to report, and I enjoy the computer very much, especially for the price.

(More customer reviews)I recently got this monitor to replace my bedroom pc's 3 year old 17" samsung lcd. When i got it, i first thought, "oh dear lord this thing is huge!" which it is, but its very lite, and solid construction.
Pros:
1) BRIGHT! and i mean eye burning bright, i had to tone it down just to save my eyes
2) outstanding color. the color depth, and the overall image quality is incredible
3) no "bleed". i ran several image tests, and i found virtually no bleeding. something of a rarity in screens of this size.
4) the swivel is pinky pushing ease. also the height adjustment is versatile.
cons:
1) speakers are weak. but which onboard monitor speakers arent?
2) no headphone jack. who makes a screen with speakers and no headphone jack? i mean seriously, lets think about that. i dont need an ipod docking station on my monitor, but no in/out jack? or usb? killin me.
3) one stuck pixel. i had discovered one stuck green pixel right out of the box. i was very upset, but ran jscreenfix for about 40 minutes and it went away! beats a dead pixel or insane bleeding.
i would give it a full 5 stars if it werent for the missing jacks. i forgive the stuck pixel, cause that kind of thing just happens. i dont care who makes ur monitor, it just happens to them all (yes even sony). overall a great bargain, i would give it 4.8 stars if that were an option :)

(More customer reviews)After searching for a notebook for a few weeks and reading up on them, I found an acer at best buy I liked. While there I searched the Best buy site and found this laptop for 429. Best buy wanted to charge me 69.99 for having it optimized already and putting the OS onto cds. I told them I wanted the advertised price and I can create the OS discs myself. Finally they gave it to me for the advertised price and I wound up having it optimized and the discs were in the box as well. Not bad!
This notebook can perform just as good if not better than the more expensive models? Oh yes. I am still trying to figure out why would someone buy the 800 hp over this one? The only difference I can see is that the higher priced HPs have larger drives, but who is going to store that much info on their computers? Ram is more important than storage. You can get a 1tb drive for 100 bucks. So no need to spend and extra 400 on storage especially when the ram is only 3!
I am so happy with this model. Fast, efficient, windows 7 is fantastic. Much faster than vista and xp. Sound is awesome. Very happy with this laptop and the money I saved. Highly recommend this one.

I am a gamer that also does a lot of professional audio/video recording and editing and this laptop has been able to handle everything so far without any big problems. I am still looking for a usb interface for my audio inputs and outputs (Im used to a pci card interface for my board), but thats a whole nother beast. I am able to get 48-60 fps when playing 3d games and the wireless adapter has very little latency (around 200ms, which is ok in my experience compared to other wireless setups I have used). The range of the adapter is impressive, I can get a signal much further than my wife's toshiba. Battery life is a little over 3 hours in my experience when using the web and much less when playing games. Screen size is excellent and is true 16:9 aspect ratio, which suits my hd editing perfectly. picture quality is also very good. I have watched many dvd's while staying in hotels on this unit. In my 2+ months of owning it I have had only one problem that seems to have gone away. Initially, the video driver was hanging up, causing my screen to blank out for a few seconds during 3d gameplay, but windows was able to recover quickly every time and resume play without losing anything. This has not happened in the past few weeks. Windows reported it as a driver failure and I think the driver has been updated to fix the problem. I paid a little less than the stated price of $498 at walmart for this computer and could not be happier. Goodbye desktop! My mother was impressed with the machine and bought one soon after I did with the same results, very satisfied. One word of advice in closing, make sure the unit has enough space for proper airflow during 3d acceleration, it gets warm when 3d is used due to the video being on chip.

Acer Aspire AS5741Z-5539 15.6-Inch HD Wi-Fi Laptop (Black) Review

(More customer reviews)I've been using this laptop for about a week and overall I am very happy with this purchase. The machine is fast, the screen is looks amazing (glossy, FYI), very bright and no dead pixels. Another plus is that there was not excessive bloatware on this unit, and I only had to remove a handful of trial software, un-needed apps and desktop shortcuts to clean it up. The speakers sound good, and HDMI out is a nice option (though we're unlikely to use it). I like, too, that the outside of the case is matte, so it does not attract fingerprints.
I removed one star for two key reasons:
- The keyboard is "soft"; we're clicky-keyboard family. It's layout is fine, comfortable, etc, but it will take some time to adjust to the softness of this keyboard.
- I was unable to connect to my 5GHz wireless N network, but a few comments about this:
I have a dual-band router (Linksys WRT600N), sending both G and N speeds separately. This Acer was unable to connect to the N, but the G connection was fine. Note that my work laptop connects to the N network without issue. I think it may have to do with a newer wireless chipset in this unit because, although it only connects to G, it's reporting speeds of 130mbs (over the 54mbs 802.11G standard). Regardless, we're happy with the wireless performance and speed so far, but disappointing and frustrating it didn't "just work".
I tried contacting Acer support and though I only had the unit less that week, they stated that they did not have resources to assist me with this problem and directed me to fee-based support. Frankly, I find that a bit appalling. I happen to be fairly technical, but if you need basic support from a company, it's best to look elsewhere. This was the main reason for the star coming off.
In summary, if you need an affordable, full-featured laptop, this is a great option, but only if you're comfortable digging out of your own support holes -- Acer is not your friend post-sale. Extra props to Amazon (as always) for crediting me when the price dropped prior to my receiving the computer.
