Samsung 2433BW-1 24-Inch LCD Monitor (Black) Review

Love the real estate this monitor gives me. This is for work, but I would consider replacing my two 21" monitors with this one.
I have 1200 pixels high at home. And this one has it too. I am VERY disappointed that all the new monitors coming out are only 1080. I want those 120 pixels back.
This is a plea to all the MFGs out there, please start making the 1920 x1200 again.

ASUS VH226H 21.5-Inch Widescreen LCD Monitor - Black Review

ASUS VH226H 21.5-Inch Widescreen LCD Monitor - Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
(Intro)I have a two year old and as such, I can't play some of the more violent video game console titles that I used to before he was born . Either my son is awake and so I can't have him see me fight aliens and world war II enemies or he is asleep and so the sound of the game is too loud that it will wake up while he is taking his nap. So I figured I'll pick up a small monitor to use with my Sony Playstation 3 just for games and to watch movies/tv shows from my PC as a 2nd monitor in the office. Since my primary reason for picking up this monitor is to play Playstation 3 games, the monitor had to be 1080p (1920x1080 native resolution) to avoid seeing black bars on the top and bottom of the monitor when playing 16:9 aspect ratio games or movies. So far, I am really happy with my purchase.
PROS
- Fast recycle time for games. You can really tell between this monitor and say my Dell 30" monitor I use for photo editing.
- Decent color output. I do wedding photography on my main PC so I know the difference between a great quality monitor and a budget quality monitor but all in all, for a budget monitor, it produces pretty good colors. I would not recommend this monitor for professional photography or videography as this monitor is only 6-bit monitor and so you will not get the full 16.7 million colors that you would get from a high quality monitor.
-HDMI and DVI inputs are seperate. Some budget monitors cut corners but combining the HDMI and DVI ports but this monitor has it seperately so you can have both your PC and HDMI device connected at the same time. I personally have my PC connected to the DVI port and my Sony Playstation 3 to the HDMI port.
-Seems like this monitor has good quality control. All in all, most people including myself seem to receive this monitor with no dead pixels.
-Built in speakers makes it convenient for those with little desk space.
-Very lightweight. I can't believe how little this monitor weighs compared to my Dell 3007WFP. I haven't attended a lan party in years but if I do, I'll definately be taking this monitor with me instead of the heavier Dell 30".
-Fast response rate. My eyes may not be the greatest but I can not see any ghosting during my game play. Movies look great as well.
-Headphone jack. This was the one requirement for me as I need to use headphones when my son is sleeping. Even when you connect an HDMI device, the audio from the HDMI device is passed to the headphone jack.
-Bright LCD. Great if you are working in a bright room.
CONS
-Panel is a 6-bit TN panel so the best for photography. Probably like 95% of monitors today are 6-bit monitors so this is not a deal breaker versus other similar priced monitors as it will also be TN.
-Speakers leave a lot to be desired. At this price, I wasn't expecting much. Average quality. Best to use good quality headphones if you got them for gaming.
-No height adjustment. Not surprising at this price but if you work for long hours in front of your monitor, you may want to purchase a monitor stand.
-Light tends to bleed from the top and bottom of the screen but this is also normal for monitors of this price range. After a while, you don't really notice it as much. It mainly stands out when you are watching a movie where the aspect ratio is not 16:9 and so black borders are created.
-Annoying input notice each time there is a handshake from external device to monitor. The Sony Playstation 3 often drops the signal when going into a game or some other Sony menu options so you see the message "HDMI Source" on the top left each time it does this but it's not a big deal.
-Menu button layout not the easiest to navigate, especially since they are not backlit.

First let me say that I bought this tv for my bedroom. We had a cheaper LCD tv (Emerson) in our room, but it broke after 1 year and can not be repaired! So we have been searching for a few days and it was a toss between Samsung and Sony. We went with Samsung because the picture looked better. I am very pleased that we did. I love all the features and the picture quality. HD is awsome. Glad I spent the extra money for a "name brand" model.

Acer AL2223Wd 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor Review

Acer AL2223Wd 22 Widescreen LCD Monitor
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Overall I am very pleased with this monitor and would definitely recommend it to anyone on a budget. You'd be hard pressed to beat it for the price. However, it is not perfect...
PROS
- Screen is very bright (I had to turn it down), and very clear at native resolution
- Mine has no dead pixels
- "Ghosting" effect while paying fast-paced games is very minimal
- Comes with a DVI cable (many don't)
- GridVista software included is a handy tool that allows you to arrange open windows in a grid on your screen so you don't have to constantly switch between them.
CONS
- I can notice a *slight* change in brightness from the top of the screen to the bottom, even when looking straight at the screen. When I tilt the screen up or down, this difference becomes more apparent. But it isn't so bad as to be distracting as long as you have the monitor facing you perfectly.
- The screen is only 6-bit, which is below the ideal 8-bit. What this means is the monitor can only display a limited number of colors. Most users may not notice the minor dithering this causes, but to those who are into professional photo or video editing, you should probably cough up more cash for a monitor with an 8-bit screen.
- The stand is difficult to adjust and doesn't allow for much customization.
- The connectors are located in an inconvenient spot behind the stand.
For me, the pros far outweigh the cons. If you aren't looking to spend a boatload but want a large, impressive widescreen then this is the monitor you want!

Sony Bravia KLV-40U100M 40-Inch HDTV Tunerless LCD Monitor Review

Sony Bravia KLV-40U100M 40-Inch HDTV Tunerless LCD Monitor
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
One of my big criteria for choosing this was that it had to display standard-definition (SD) TV well. I am feeding it from a Dish Network 322 standard def tuner. I looked at a lot of TVs and settled on this as the one that did the best on standard TV. Frankly, lots of good-brand
TVs look great on hi-def signals, and nobody will ever complain. It's on standard-def where they really fall apart. And like it or not, a LOT of the TV you watch is still going to be standard-def for a while, so don't take this weakness lightly.
Before I go any further, let me say that in my opinion, "best on standard TV" means this one was the least horrible. No flat-panel, even the most expensive Bravia XBR blah blah blah that you can buy, displays a picture as clear and well-defined as a conventional CRT tube TV. Nothing. No LCD, no Plasma. And no LCD or Plasma TV does as good a job with hi-def as a hi-def CRT TV, either.
This TV has excellent color and brightness. It's not that.
But there will always be those little washy blurry artifacts in the image compared to a CRT TV. I have yet to see any flat panel, LCD or Plasma, that does not suffer from this. Go look critically at every darn one in Best Buy or Circuit City, and you'll see what I mean. Look especially around displayed lettering. Watch when credits roll against a light background. Then watch that on a CRT TV.
LCD and Plasma have big screens, they are lightweight, and there is a lot of hype behind them. But if you ever sit a hi-def CRT TV next to any flat-panel in the store and watch them, you'll see what a crock the whole flat-panel "spin" is.
My main reason for going flat panel was size. You simply can't go much above about 34" in a CRT. But if that's big enough, check on the Sony Bravia 34" XBR CRT HDTV. It's hi-def, CRT, and only costs $950. It's 200 lbs, but there is no better TV in the world, for hi or standard def. That's what I would have bought if it were up to me, but alas, I am not the only one in the house using the TV, and I'm not a TV "nut" so ....
Now, back to the review...
We have an XBox 360 hooked up via the 3-cable component inputs. The other reviewer was mistaken here. You absolutely DO get hi-definition 720p or 1080i out of an XBox 360 with the already-supplied component cables. You do not need to buy the VGA cable for it. You have to dig through some menus on the Xbox to explicitly set its output mode to 1080i or 720p, or it will continue to put out 480i, even though you hooked up the component cables.
The hi-def game play is amazing on this TV. I am not a gamer. My son is. But Gears of War and Call of Duty 3 look unbelievably crisp and quick.
Even Halo 2, which is NOT a hi-def game (but is 480p), is far better on this TV than on a standard-def TV (but not better than on a hi-def CRT). It is not laggy or smeary, which are important for game play.
Hi-def movies and TV signals are superb (just judging from watching and comparing this TV on those signals in stores... I don't have a hi-def TV signal) This TV is very quick. There is minimal lag, smear, etc. The blacks are very good, and the contrast is good. In a darkened room with the lights off, the black areas of the picture look pretty darn black. You don't see fuzzy "gray".
(Remember, this is all in the "flat-screen" comparison world. Compared to a CRT, the speed is so-so, the blacks are so-so, the sharpness is "okay").
Okay, so what about regular TV?
Well... it's like regular TV on all flat-panel hi-def sets. If you had a regular Sony Trinitron tube set, it would blow the doors off this thing, and any other flat-panel. But it is definitely tolerable.
It has a good selection of zoom/wide/scale modes so you can display 4:3 standard TV channels comfortably on the screen without silly wide stretching distortions. I prefer to leave it "standard" which fills the right and left with black zones, but the "zoom" works well, and fills the screen by blowing up the 4:3 image and cropping it, which usualy doesn't hurt. You can use this mode if you hate the black bars.
The remote is VERY nice. By far the best flat-panel remote I tried. And I tried a LOT of them. I compared TVs for about 6 weeks before buying this one. This remote is very simple and intuitive. Most of what you ever need to do like select an input or switch the wide/normal/stretch modes is available directly from a button touch. You don't have to wade through levels of annoying menus.
Standard definition on a composite cable from a Nintendo Wii system looks very good, much better than I would have thought. We will eventually get the 3-wire component cable for it so it can display 480p instead of 480i, and that will only make it better.
Inputs:
There are only 5 inputs on this TV. The literature is very misleading.
There is 1 HDMI, 1 VGA and 1 component input. There are two more that each can be used for Composite OR S-Video. But the documentation makes it sound like the TV has 2 composite and 2 S-Video inputs, and that simply isn't true. If you try to use BOTH the composite and S-Video jacks on a single input, the TV switches to S-Video EVEN IF THE S-Video DEVICE IS TURNED OFF, as long as the cable is connected, which is a real drag. It would have been nice to be able to hook a DVD to the S-Video jack and the VCR to the composite jack on the same input, and have the TV show one or the other based on which one is turned on.
Curiously, the composite (yellow cable, NOT "component") from my Dish receiver looks BETTER than the S-Video, and just the opposite should be true. However, I will try a better S-Video cable to see if that matters. Frankly, I doubt it. My guess is that the Dish receiver comb-filters its composite signal to make a somewhat bogus S-Video output. If that's true, then you are better off sending the composite signal to the Sony TV, and letting IT comb-filter the signal. It probably has a much better filter than the Dish receiver.
EDIT ON 1/6/06: Well I bought a mid-priced better S-Video cable with gold-plated connectors ("Manhattan Cable", bought it from Radio Shack for about $20). Lo and behold, it does indeed improve the S-Video picture from the Dish receiver. The S-Video picture is now slightly better than the composite - a bit shaper, clearer, brighter, with better variation between colors and dark/light (better contrast and color definition).Prepare to buy cables. This thing comes with NONE except a VGA cable which is quite useless unless you plan to hook a computer up to this monitor.
If you have multiple devices, expect to have to invest in a selector box. We have:
Dish receiver for TV
DVD player
VCR
Two game systems
The DVD, Wii, and Xbox 360 will have to share the one component input, so I need a 3-way selector box for that.
----------
Summary:
This TV is excellent for what it is: an LCD flat panel. But I knock it for the misleading input info, and complete lack of included cables. Also,
beware of all the hi-def flat-panel hype, and check whatever you buy on STANDARD DEF TV before you buy. If the guy in the store won't show you the TV on a standard cable or satellite signal, walk out the door.

The sleekly styled, silver 40-inch Sony Bravia KLV40U100M is packed with the latest high-performance video features, including a wide viewing angle, and a fast response time (great for sports and action movies). Designed to receive HD and standard TV signals via set top boxes (cable or satellite), the KLV40U100M is a tunerless model providing exceptional value and performance for those who have a set-top HD-tuner or do not intend to receive over-th-air broadcasts. It also offers digital HDMI video connectivity and a bottom speaker design that helps save space. The thin profile of this Bravia TV accommodates VESA compliant mounting systems (separately available). The removable pedestal swivels 30 degrees left and right and also tilts forward 3 degrees and backward 8 degrees for additional placement flexibility.

The KLV40U100M has a 1366 x 768-pixel resolution, 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio, 178-degree viewing angle, and 1300:1 contrast ratio. (The higher the contrast ratio, the greater a TV's ability to display subtle color details and not get washed out by ambient room light.) The Cinemotion 3:2 pulldown cinema video processing detects and compensates film--which is shot at 24 frames per second (fps) compared with video's 30 fps rate--to video for a smooth theaterlike experience at home.
THis set includes the following connections:
Composite (RCA audio/video): 2 inputs (rear)
S-Video: 2 input (rear) with input detection
Component (Y/Pb/Pr): 2 inputs (with left/right audio jacks)
HDMI: 1 input (with L/R RCA audio connections)
PC: 1 D-Sub15 input (with L/R stereo mini plug connection)
Total audio inputs: 3 (rear)
Headphone: 1

Tech Talk HDMI is a lossless, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface to link any audio/video source (such as a set-top box, DVD player, or AV receiver) with your TV--all over a single cable. HDMI supports standard, enhanced or high definition video, plus multi-channel digital audio on a single cable. It supports all ATSC formats--standard (SDTV), enhanced (EDTV), and high (HDTV).
Component video (also called Y/Pb/Pr) features a three-jack video input, which provides separate connections for luminance (Y), blue color difference (PB) and red color difference (PR). This results in increased bandwidth for color information, resulting in a more accurate picture with clearer color reproduction and less bleeding than you would get with S-Video or composite (RCA yellow video plug) connections. You will need a separate RCA left/right audio cable for sound.
The SRS WOW feature widens the soundstage by processing standard two-channel stereo material as well as multi-channel encoded material for a dramatic improvement in the playback of any stereo audio over a two-speaker system. And in case you were wondering, BRAVIA is short for "Best Resolution Audio Visual Integrated Architecture."
What's in the Box 40-inch Bravia Tunerless LCD HD monitor, tabletop stand, remote control (with batteries), coaxial cable, HD15-to-HD15 cable, printed operating instructions

HP W22 22" Wide LCD Monitor Review

HP W22 22 Wide LCD Monitor
Average Reviews:

I've been looking at LCD monitors for some time but most of the previous 20" and larger LCD monitors just didn't look good. I compared the new Gateway 24" to this HP 22" and overall preferred the HP. The HP W22 is bright with excellent contrast. And as a bonus the integral speakers have a reasonably good sound. I don't run games so I cannot comment on how it would perform for those applications but so far for all other apps, it works great. We have a lot of high resolution pics of our kids and they also look great on this monitor.
HOWEVER - When buying an LCD monitor you must understand that these monitors only work well at certain screen resolutions. If you run them at other than their "native resolutions" (in the case of the HP W22 it is 1680x1050) the picture quality suffers greatly. I had to buy a new video card that would support the "native resolution" of this monitor but the end result is well worth it.

Samsung LN22A650 22-Inch 720p LCD HDTV with RED Touch of Color Review

Average Reviews:

I applaude the first evaluator for his detailed comments. He is accurate in his description and his accolades fully accentuate the quality of this little gem. At 22" and 720p you could not ask for more other than a slightly larger screen at a slightly larger price. When I compare this picture with the same model 40" there is no difference other than the size. I do not know the pixel pitch of either TV; however, the normal sighted viewer cannot tell any difference in picture quality even though the 40" is 1080p vs 720p. This TV makes the perfect companion for working on a computer and viewing the TV next to it. Any TV can be torn to pieces for this reason and that but for the money and size this is going to be hard to beat. One item that I might find fault with is the potential cost imputed in the TV for the Touch of Color. That is a waste of money for me and could be omitted in other models if the cost of the addition is eliminated as well. Unlike the 40", I had little or no problem calibrating this 22" even though the controls almost mirror each other.
My final: enjoy; I am.
added 9-22-08: I neglected to include an important element of this purchase. Amazon sold the TV and I am overwhelmed by their attention to details. Every part of the transaction went perfectly from placing the order on 8-10 and delivery a few days later using free shipping. The same TV at big box is 20% to 25% more and you pay taxes and cost of visiting. Amazon continues to give the best bang for the buck.

ASUS VE246H 24" LCD Monitor - Black Review

ASUS VE246H 24 LCD Monitor - Black
Average Reviews:

For starters this is a terrific monitor at an equally nice price point. Great performance, stout on-screen menu (OSD), setup was a breeze, simple as that.
But about that fatal bug...you use that on-screen menu to change input signal sources, natch. But the problem is that you must be connected to the currently-selected signal source to pull up the menu at all...IOW the menu doesn't live in flash memory somewhere like it does on many monitors (many older monitors at that). If you decide to switch from VGA to DVi, you need to be operating with a valid VGA signal to bring the menu up...otherwise you can't make the change. That's a problem if you make hardware changes to your computer and don't have the former signal source available anymore. What you'll have is a dark monitor waiting for you to pull up a menu that's disabled.
Usually not a problem with today's multi-format graphics cards, but here's the real-world kicker: This monitor doesn't see my Asus EN210's HDMI port. (Also reviewed.) Switched the signal source to HDMI with the OSD, but the card and the monitor weren't on speaking terms. The hitch...you can't change the input source back until you solve the HDMI signal problem. With a dark monitor. Strange design feature on an otherwise excellent piece of gear. Fix that menu glitch and this device is a shoe-in for all five stars.

TV through S video (Standard Definition digital signal) cannot be faulted. Will upgrade to HDTV in future as can display HD.
No speakers but hooked up to Set top box and sounds fantastic to match screen. PIP is a treat to surf internet/work and check out whats on tv. Perfect for small apartment as is duel use. 30"model didn't interest as cannot plug in component S video ect.

ASUS MT276HE - 27" Wide LCD Monitors - Black Review

ASUS MT276HE - 27 Wide LCD Monitors - Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this monitor to use specifically for gaming as my current PC monitor just wasn't fast enough for gaming. My main monitor is designed for photography, graphic design or similar uses where color accuracy is more important than speed. Before I go into detail, let me just explain why I gave four stars instead of 5. I feel perfection should be hard to get. Now back to the review. The monitor is well packaged. When I received the monitor, I first tested my PS3 games and no surprise, games look fantastic. I do not really see any ghosting which I do see in my Dell U2410. Contrast and colors look great. Blu-ray movies also looked great. I was surprised at the audio as it was louder and cleaner than I expected for a 3 watt speaker. You can not turn the bass all the way up to the highest setting because the audio starts to distort but it does provide decent bass a couple of notches down. Fortunately my monitor arrived without any dead pixels. The mesh covering the speakers are an interesting choice. Nice if you like flowers but you don't really notice it unless you are paying attention to the detail.
Now the next test was connecting it to my PC. This monitor has three inputs, two digital (HDMI) and one analog (VGA). I tried the HDMI input and no surprise, the colors don't look as great as my Dell U2410 but that is to be expected since this panel is a TN 6-bit panel. It doesn't look bad but it is definitely IPS quality. The screen is a matte screen and not glossy which helps if you work in a room with direct sunlight. Glare sucks on glossy screens and so I avoid them at all cost. Glossy screens do add more contrast but in my opinion, the contrast on this monitor looks amazing.
The monitor runs pretty cool. I used to own a Dell 30" monitor and in the summertime, it made my office get really hot. Since this monitor also has an LED panel, it should use less electricity than a traditional CCFL panel.
The game I play most often is Street Fighter IV (but in a month, that will change when Super Street Fighter IV comes out). I just love how clean and smooth it looks on this screen. There is literally no lag on this monitor. I also tried Unreal Tournament 3 on my PC and wow, the game looks terrific on this monitor. This monitor is definitely my favorite monitor for gaming.
Keep in mind that since the two digital inputs on this monitor are HDMI, you may have a problem initially when you connect your PC to this monitor as it may detect it as an HDTV instead of a PC monitor. You will need to turn off overscan correction on your graphics card settings. This will get rid of the black bars on the side of the screen
The bezel on this monitor is a bit big which means those with ATI graphics cards who want to try out Eyefinity may not want to go with this monitor.
The monitor includes a handy little remote. I am personally not a fan of the credit card sized remote controls which the Asus monitor includes as they tend to get lost easily and due to its size, you can not put a great description of what each of the buttons do. The HDTV does have a slot to hide the remote but I would have rather preferred a slightly larger remote. I sometimes forget what each symbol means but I am sure after a while, I'll get over that.
The monitor includes a 3 year warranty which is rare for computer LCD monitors. Hopefully I won't have to use it but its good to know its there if I need it.
Now for some cons. First of all, I generally like to view my Blu-ray movies at 24 frames per second since that is what movies are generally filmed at. This monitor does not support 24P, or at least when I set it to 24P on my Sony Playstation 3, it loses sync when I play a Blu-ray movie. Since this monitor came out in late 2009, I was expecting it to support 24P. Also the monitor stand can not be tilted. Since I use this as a second monitor, it doesn't line up with my Dell 24" so tilting would have been nice. For the price this monitor goes for, I was hoping it would allow tilting. The volume also does not go low enough. This is a problem because it is in my office and my walls are not thick enough and so I have to wear headphones to make sure I don't wake up my 2 year old son when he is napping. All of the buttons are on the top of the Asus monitor except for the power button. All of the HDTVs in my house have the buttons located in the same section so when I want to power on or off the Asus monitor, I sometimes accidentally reach for the top. I know this is a minor detail but I just wanted to point this out.
Overall I really like this monitor a lot and am happy with my purchase. There are some other features to this monitor which I haven't mentioned yet but its nice that it has a headphone jack for when you want to game at night when everyone in your house is asleep. It has SPDIF output for when you need thumping audio through an audio receiver or a sound bar. I don't expect I'll ever use that but its good to know its there. It is not a very portable monitor but since it doesn't weigh much, you could technically use it for lan parties and such. This monitor is a keeper and I hope it lasts me a long time. If you have any questions, feel free to comment and I will do my best to answer them. If I could give a more accurate score for this monitor, I would rate it a 4.5.

HP W2207 22-inch Widescreen Flat Panel LCD Monitor Review

HP W2207 22-inch Widescreen Flat Panel LCD Monitor

As an Apple devotee, I feel like a bit of a traitor writing a positive review of an HP product, but WOW this thing is great! I bought it as a second monitor to my MacBook. Apple MacBook MA701LL/A 13.3" Notebook PC (2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1 GB RAM, 120 GB Hard Drive, DVD/CD SuperDrive) - BlackThe color is brilliant, the contrast is impressive, the text pops and it's just plain beautiful to look at, even if you are working. I literally find myself working on things because I don't want to take my eyes off it.
While I love the look of Apple's cinema monitors, the price point is just so high. The HP w2207 represents a far more reasonable price point. Also, if you're a writer like me, HP makes a clip system for this series of monitors, so you can have a document holder off to the side without having to glue something to side of your monitor untiil the end of time.
If you're an art director, graphic designer, or similar artists thinking, "Ah-ha, this guy's a copywriter. What does he know about monitors?" Well I've been in advertising since 1996 and I've seen all kinds of monitors and this is one of the most impressive I've ever seen at any price.
Also, I took sometime to compare this model to others available for sale from a variety of manufacturers and no one matches the image quality in my opinion. This might seem strange for HP to come out on top in comparison to other companies that specialize in monitors, but the truth is people largely, buy their computers based on the quality and look of the monitor. Apple realized this early on and apparently someone told HP too. I wonder how many HP computer bundles are going to be sold based on the performance of this beauty?
Sure, it takes a little adjustment both on the monitor itself and on the display portion of the system preferences, but it's easy enough.
Plus, the built in speakers are much better than you'd expect from a monitor and the built in 2 USB hub is a nice little touch. More would have been better, but an extra usb port is always nice.
All of this said, there are some flaws with this monitor.
1. The rotating screen landscape-or-portrait function is great, but it doesn't work with the MacBook in Mac mode. What I'm talking about is the ability to physically turn the monitor and have the display go into a portrait arrangement. It's probably too much to ask for from a monitor made by a PC manufacturer, but it would have been nice if the software bundle would have included something for us, Mac people. It still works with the MacBook just fine in landscape mode, but it would have been nice to have this particular bell and whistle.
2. The monitor does have a DVI connection as well as an analog VGA connection, but it only comes with an analog VGA wire. Don't settle for VGA, when there's DVI to be had! Order a DVI wire with your order like this one.Cables To Go 2m DVI-D M/M Dual Link Digital Video Cable The response time is appreciably faster than with VGA. It's slight, but it's there.
3. Hopefully, this won't be an issue, but its warranty is for only one year, while others come with a three year warranty. This is a little disconcerting, but I'd rather have one year of looking at this screen than 3 years of looking at washed out or drab monitor.
4. The screen does pick up reflections more readily than other flat panels.
And even with these shortcomings, I've still got to give it 5 stars. It's just that beautiful!
UPDATE: Although mine did not, this monitor now does come with a DVI cable. So you won't need to buy one separately.

HP W2408 Vivid Color 24-inch Widescreen Flat LCD Monitor with BrightView Panel Review

Note: Just had this monitor a few days but since no one has written a review I thought I would provide my initial thoughts keeping in mind that HP is not known for its customer support so I am hoping I don't get punished for taking a chance with them. So do keep in mind this is review based on less than a week.
My configuration: I mainly use my MacPro with the standard 256Meg graphics card. I pluged it into the DVI plug. I also have a Dell computer and I pluged it into the VGA plug so I can test post OSX and Vista (Business). However, my main machine is the MacPro so I will leave the details to a Vista person but will give you my intial reaction.
Wanted a large nice monitor without a matte finish and from my observations the HP W2408 was better than the rest of the field. The W2408 is very similar to the W2207 with the glossy screen and mandatory for me a pivot screen. The pivot feature is implemented well although with such a big screen there is only so much you can do with the screen in portrait mode. The W2408 is similar to the W2207 but 2 inches bigger (it is a monster but a nice monster) and a higher resolution. Before I continue let me eliminate some misinformation that ran rampant in reviews of the W2207 which I hope doesn't happen here. The box DOES, I repeat does contain both the DVI, VGA, and USB cables so if you don't have them you've been shortchanged. For Mac users, Yes, I repeat yes, you can rotate the screen if your Mac is at least no older than three years old. A down side is that the software/drivers are for Windows not Mac. However, it doesn't matter. The Mac has it's own drivers and I was up and running within the five minutes. There were some minor tweaks done in "preferences" and the HP on screen menu. On the Windows side I installed the software and happily surprised that I had the latest version. The installation in Vista was simple and uneventful. One downside is the autopivot/rotation software didn't work as it didn't work for some for the HP 2208. My Vista computer with an ATI card can assign a hotkey to rotate the screen so no big deal for me. For the Mac you have to go into Preferences and then click to rotate but I also have activated the display icon to make it easier to change from landscape to portrait.
Now the good part where I can seem less objective. The screen is beautiful! It blows others out of the tub IMO. The colors are so vibrant and a joy to view. Photographs look much more like the real thing and DVD movies almost look HD. Since this is HD resolution and has. HDCP for future expansion with Blu-ray and HD-DVD. It is simply a beautiful screen that looks better what currently Apple has to offer and much cheaper. The downside might be related to the strengths. It is best viewed straight on but the viewing angle isn't that bad. With bright sunlight you might have reflection but I cans imply live with it. It also has an ambient light sensor that helps. Overall I give it 4 1/2 stars (5 is nearest) since it should have more software for Mac (but still OK) and the Vista software doesn't work perfectly but good enough. The price is reasonable and should come down later. Should you instead get the 2207 instead of the 2408? It is $200 cheaper. That's a close call. With the 2407 you get a large screen and believe me you can live with a 24 inch screen. It also has a higher native resolution which I can tell when compared to the 2207. I would say it's a tossup. If you want to save money I think you will love the W2207 almost as much. I spent the extra money so my Photoshop CS3 has lots of real estate.

NEC MultiSync 95 19" Monitor for PC and Macintosh Review

NEC MultiSync 95 19 Monitor for PC and Macintosh
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have two NEC Multisync 95 19 inch monitors. At the time I shopped the entire store to see what the best video picture was. Hands down the Sony flat screen CRT was the best at almost twice the price of the NEC. A close second was the NEC. It was clearly a better picture than everything else in the store. It was more expensive at the time, then it is now.
In a time when everyone is going LCD flat screen, mini slim monitor crazy, I have come to realize that the CRT monitors have a huge edge on picture quality-dollar value. Mating that to the fact that they are the least expensive, and you have a winner. Personally, I don't mind that one foot of real estate being taken up by the back of the monitor, when I can buy a larger unit for less money, and a superior picture. I must admit LCDs have come along way since they were introduced. Then new NEC LCD1725 is a beautiful picture, and the Sony 19 is as well. For the most part LCD pictures are quite disappointing. Even the expensive Plasma screens at ten times the money, don't give you the clarity of the Sony, and are still tweaked out by the NEC.
The difference in size allows me to move the monitor farther away from me, so the miniscule radiation is of no effect.
The thing about the LCDs is that they have a two dimensional quality about them. Some even have a cartoon appearance. It's a fad, but clearly an inferior picture for twice the price.
What does this all have to do with this NEC monitor? Everything. This NEC is an incredible monitor for the money. You would be hard pressed to find anything else in the marketplace that can compare to it. In a Consumer Reports review of monitors, they rated Sony, NEC, and Dell the best.
NEC on their web site, have a full suite of drivers, and software downloads available 24/7.
Well enough monitor talk for now. Hope this helps.

HP L2208w 22-inch Widescreen LCD Monitor Review

HP L2208w 22-inch Widescreen LCD Monitor

I purchased this monitor to go with my MacPro 15" laptop. Because of all the great Amazon reviews, I was all ready to buy a Samsung for about $100 more, but when I saw how crisp and clear my boss's HP display was I changed my mind and purchased the HP L2208w. I love it! The color is a little cooler than my laptop display but it's totally adjustable through the Monitor>Color>Calibration>Advanced control panel. The display is crisp with full color and saturation ranges and nice deep blacks for photograph editing. It took about 3 minutes to get it out of the box, plugged in and in use. At first I used it in duel monitor mode with my laptop but now, most of the time I just leave my laptop closed and use the HP as my sole monitor. It coordinates nicely with my laptop and Apple keyboard too. The only thing I don't like about it is the adjustment controls. I can't actually see any labels or icons on them to give a clue what does what, though I think they are there, they're so faint I can't see them. That said, there are an ABUNDANCE of adjustments you can make, everything you can thing of, and if you click around enough, you'll eventually get it exactly where you want it. It's a really great monitor at a fantastic price and I couldn't be happier with it.

Tenba RS-D30 634-713 Aircase for 30-Inch Cinema Display (Black)
Average Reviews:

I love choices. But if you want to ship a 30" cinema display, as far as I could tell, this was it. And it is not inexpensive! But what an excellent case. The outer is tough, the hard inner shell is strong enough for a baggage handler to jig on and the interior holds the monitor snug and scratch free. I would like to of had closed pouches instead of open ended dividers to hold the cables. I wish it weighed less. It is right at 50 lbs when loaded. To close for airline scales. And it is slightly oversize. The airline allowed it but they could of hit me for big bucks.
It arrived after along international flight with transfers looking literally like new and the contents unscathed. Not bad!
