After having an HP for a long time and many hours of college abuse it died. I needed a new computer fast so bought this, from the get go it was easy to set up and install everything i needed. Can handle multitasking, like word doc up, multiple internet sites, adobe reader, music, downloading etc all at onces. I'm a horrible PC owner and leave mine on all the time so prolonged use does not seem to be effecting it. I do a lot of movie editing for fun and handles that fine. I do have an external hard drive for storage but I have a lot of junk. Love the multiple UBS ports on the front as well as memory card, headphone and mic plug ins. I have a lot of crap I hitch up to my computer and it comes in handy. Only thing I would suggest is if your big on gaming graphic card isn't spectacular but for the basics it's fine. I'm not great with the computer lingo but I was told this would be a great computer, Asus has been making computer parts for a long time and are a well known computer company. Good customer services. If cosmetics matter it's simple but kind of sleek, nothing fancy.
For the price it's a great computer.

Well it is an entry level workstation, but has a professional graphic card not the gaming one. Basically the different are the drivers. I think 15" widescreen is the good balance between portability and getting some work done on a good size screen. The version I ordered from Lenovo is almost max out with the newer technology. I use N draft at home with 5 GHz frequency. When I go to a coffee shop I have no problem connecting to G and B routers. There is also a wimax which is the next big thing that I don't use or have service. There is a little keyboard light which is cool, but I don't use either; gaming laptop have glowing keyboard.
Features:
I can't live without the rubber head mouse; I went one generation last time with a Sony Vaio SZ and had to go back. Mainly Lenovo ThinkPad and Dell Latitude laptops still carry this feature. I got to say I like the design of this laptop better than any of the new curvy edge shiny one you can find at electronic stores. Maybe the new Latitudes look very cool and modern too. Displayport (can use hdmi converter) is a great plus while the PC input is still there. I go the turbo memory and I didn't think its made a differences to the boot up speed or software performance. There aren't really any bloat-ware, but some Lenovo system softwares are hogging too much resources. Loading was a fast as my old Sony Vaio SZ, which is much slower than regular computer, which I wanted the turbo memory would fix, but didn't. I use my finger print scanner to save passwords and that is a feature I have grown to like more and more everyday. I connected my bluetooth keyboard to this once.
Built quality is good,
The speakers went out after a week, but I sent it in and Lenovo fixed it. Also on the way back the hard drive got damage and they sent me a new hard drive and disc so I install the OS. Overall it is solidly built; layout is very good, only flimsy part is the area over the PC express card. No dead pixels or weird screen things.
Performance:
I have Photoshop CS2, sometime do Sketchup and Google earth. There is only a very small difference between my laptop and PC with this software; only on bigger files. I hardly ever lose any connections with my D-link N draft router and this laptop. N draft is better than G, I did lose connection when I had an old g router. I stream Netflix and Hulu and it is almost as good as the hardwire connection of my PC. Beside the boot-up is a little slow, I can say this is powerful enough to replace my PC on most tasks. I thought battery these days will last longer, but they really don't, even if the wifi off. I did a movie test on full charge. Sadly this laptop battery didn't last as long as my 2002 Dell Inspirion 8200 for the movie "Star War" but not by much. I did turn the wifi off. The Vaio performed about the same as this Thinkpad.
Service
I got to say Lenovo is a lot better than Dell. I never had to use Sony. They got my laptop fixed after I sent it in and tracking and call them was very easy. They want to please me, where Dell thought I was stupid (back in 2002). They had diagnostic they told me to do and immediately knew what the problem was hardware or software. They sent me 3 different installation discs. I guess I didn't make myself clear; I got Vista Professional 64bit. They assume things are 32 bit and Vista home if you don't tell them, which I guess I didn't.
I will buy from Lenovo again, and told my brother the same. Quality and service is top notch. Only the speakers went out for some reason.

Lenovo ThinkPad Edge 4GB HDMI Dual Core Laptop Review

Lenovo ThinkPad Edge 4GB HDMI Dual Core Laptop
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I did copious amounts of research and comparison shopping before buying this laptop. Overall I'm very satisfied with my purchase, and hopefully I can share some advice regarding this machine's peculiarities.
When I started shopping for laptops, I was looking at laptops that were upwards of $2000. Then I thought I could get the laptop of my dreams for under $1500, but as I looked around, I realized that if I kept shopping I could save a lot more money. My last laptop was $1000, and though it was a very nice laptop, the wear and tear it showed in a few short years made it seem like a bad investment.
Compared to other laptops in its price range, this laptop has some better features you should be aware of. These features are becoming standard on most machines now, but I looked at countless laptops that was missing one or more of them:
* 14" screen (aka not too large)
* LED backlight
* Greater than 720p resolution
* DDR3 (4GB, not 2 or 3)
* HDMI
* Wireless N (300mbps, 2.4ghz)
* GIGABIT ETHERNET (uncommon on most laptops)
* USB power when the laptop is suspended/plugged in
* eSata
* ExpressCard slot
* SD card reader
* Security lock
* Webcam with built in mic
* Strong performing CPU and GPU (it's no i3, but the GPU performs better than expected and the CPU is desktop-worthy and not too hot!)
* Stylish chiclet keyboard (lol)
You can expect to find nearly all of these in a good $800 laptop, but you start losing them the lower in price you go. This was the absolute cheapest laptop I could find with all of these features.
Things this laptop has that I wasn't expecting:
* Multi-touch touchpad
* In-keyboard mouse nub and additional buttons below space bar
Also, as you would expect, it has the always useful VGA port. I was specifically looking for HDMI, and initially I looked at laptops with DisplayPort, but VGA+HDMI gives DisplayPort a run for its money because it covers most video output scenarios sans having to purchase/use an annoying dongle.
Next, there are things this laptop doesn't have that I wanted, but proved to be acceptable trade-offs, usually with the goal of lowering cost significantly. This would be the perfect laptop if it had these features. These are the trade-offs and my response to them:
* 5400 RPM drive - I wanted 7200, but HD upgrade is an easy upgrade and can be done cheaply in the future. Also, I can accept 5400 performance easily without being bothered by it, as it's quite standard. There is also the possibility for SSD upgrade, and I would assume that a lower RPM means power savings.
* Bluetooth - Really convenient because I use my Bluetooth headset for VoIP, but it's usually the first thing to go on laptops, and most people don't need it. I have a $5 USB Bluetooth adapter that easily works around this issue with just a minor inconvenience, thus saving a ton of money. Also, not having this feature saves power.
* Blu-Ray - This is the one thing I really wanted and that this laptop should have had. It wouldn't have had to be a Blu-ray burner, but since this laptop has an HD screen (better than 720p) and HDMI out, the ability to watch my Blu-ray movies would have been awesome, and this machine is practically designed for that as the Radeon HD 4250 is made to decode HD video, Blu-ray specifically. It seems silly to design a system that accommodates Blu-ray playback and not include the drive. Since Blu-ray is the new standard optical media, it is a forward-looking upgrade that will save you headaches when the day comes that you are forced to open a Blu-ray data disk. A burner would have been a great luxury and provided a real lasting quality to this machine. However, these days optical drives are of waning importance due to increased network delivery of apps and data, and if needed an external drive can be purchased later. I'm hoping that there will be a chance of finding an internal drive for this machine in the future, but I'm not really expecting it to happen. Another issue that might affect some people (and might also explain the low cost of this model), is that the DVD burner is single-layer only.
* Dedicated video - The extra video performance would have made this laptop suitable for gaming, but the money and power you save by going integrated are impossible to ignore if you are searching for a low cost and portable solution. The 4250 GPU in this machine is surprisingly good, and it trounces the integrated Geforce found in my Athlon II desktop. It also outperforms Intel graphics standard on faster i3 laptops, a refreshing advantage. I'm not a gamer or graphics power user, so this is actually the fastest GPU I've ever had. I play games that are a few years old, and of course they run beautifully.
As you can see, the features on this laptop are very strong, and the caveats are few and reasonable. I found this laptop on sale for $499, so it was impossible not to buy it. The price went up shortly after I bought it, but it appears to have come back down again. The features this laptop lacks helps to make it very affordable and have a positive effect on size, power consumption, heat production, and weight. It's not an elite, fancy pants laptop, but it's a robust worker that will serve all but the most demanding users with flying colors. It's light and small enough to be portable, and it's powerful and large enough to use for several hours without fatigue or use as your primary system.
If you have decided to buy this laptop, this is where you need to pay careful attention, because these are the things I didn't notice before actually getting the machine in my hands and using it:
* This laptop also feels sturdy and well made. HOWEVER, at the same time, it feels plastic-y and cheap, which some users may dislike. This was the first thing that surprised me about this laptop, because in my head I was thinking "Thinkpads are very fancy." You can tell this is a budget machine, and it looks a little goofy. However, it's certainly not ugly (hey, it's black), and the silver lining is not as annoying as I thought it was going to be. My last machine was a more expensive machine, so at first I was a little disappointed, but I got over it quickly as the overall design does have an enduring quality that will not age. It's better than having a very stylish laptop that starts to look foolish over the years when it starts to become a last-gen machine.
* Another thing that surprised me was the screen. I was expecting a slightly better looking screen; on this one you can barely make out little lines between the pixels. When I first turned on the machine, it was glaring, but it seemed to lesson over time, and my eyes are accustomed to it now. Overall the display is satisfactory and not a problem, although it is certainly a low-cost LCD. Compared to my old laptop, this was another thing I needed to get used to. On the plus side, the screen feels nice and big--somehow roomier than my old 14", plus it's a higher resolution as well.
* This laptop has practically no LED's, and the ones it has are not that useful. There is one power LED that shows if it's on or off. It's in a weird spot, but it gets the job done. Then, it has a second, pretty much useless LED that lets you know whether the laptop is plugged in or not, but gives no indication about charge! You can't tell whether the laptop is charging or not. Alongside the fact that there are no indicators for HD, caps lock, or num lock, that makes this the most annoying thing about this laptop that I wasn't expecting. At the end of the day you don't really need these indicators except the charge indicator, but the latter thing I'll just have to live with (I usually leave it plugged in to charge for a long time, so I don't need to monitor charge unless I'm actually using the laptop, which I only use on battery occasionally). People who hate LED's might actually love this aspect of this machine, so it could turn out to be a plus. Anything you need to know about the machine's state can be shown on-screen. The only scenario that you are really screwed in is if you are waiting for the laptop to charge fully and you are in hurry, so you'd have to turn it on to check the charge, but then having it on would make it charge slower.
* The keyboard on this laptop is kind of funny. The chiclet keys feel fine, but they don't feel quite as good as the ones I've used on more expensive laptops. I'm a touch typist, and I type fine on this keyboard--the keys are adequately sized and spaced for me to operate at my full capacity, although perhaps because of the spacing, the keyboard feels slightly bigger than what I'm used to, which makes some reaches difficult, particularly the combo "ba". I adapted to this quickly and don't notice it anymore. Also, some users have lamented that this keyboard is one of the few Thinkpad keyboards that has no back-light. Since I touch type I don't really care. Also, this keyboard has now keypad overlay that you can switch to (there is no num lock). I'm OK with that since typically it is an annoying feature to switch on and off, although sometimes I do really want to use a keypad to touch type on (if you're not a touch typist it won't matter to you). Secondly, the F keys are the reverse function, where the laptop media keys are now the primary function, and you have to hold "fn" to press F5 or F4. This can be switched in the BIOS, so I wouldn't really consider it an issue. At the end of the day, it is on par with a standard keyboard and not difficult to type on; it's just unique. Also, I thought the mouse nub in the center of the keyboard would annoy me or hinder my typing as it does on my friend's Dell Latitude, but this one really...Read more›

IBM USB Keyboard with UltraNav ( 31P8950 ) Review

IBM USB Keyboard with UltraNav ( 31P8950 )
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Simply put, the keyboards IBM puts in its Thinkpad line of notebooks are the best keyboards I've ever used. The keyboard here is just a large-model Thinkpad keyboard done up for the desktop with USB (with a built-in two-port USB hub). As such, it's perfect. I've wanted one of these since I first laid fingertips on a Thinkpad keyboard in 1997.
I'm a 100 word-per-minute touch typist who's seen a lot of keyboards -- I learned to type on a manual typewriter in the early 1970s and spent summers in college earning money as a keypunch operator on teletype-like keyboards. Before this keyboard, I was always on the lookout for a better keyboard.
The throw of the keys on this keyboard is a lot less than that of a standard desktop keyboard. And although the keys feel somewhat "clicky" (good for feedback), they're also relatively quiet (good for neighbors and family). The key layout is just like on the Thinkpad. I use the windows key a lot, but you can rebind one of the ALT keys in your operating system.
The keyboard extends a long way below the keys, just like the bigger Thinkpad's keyboards. I find this provides perfect palm rests for me.
I would've gotten this just for the keyboard. But there's also a trackpoint built in. And my fingers want to use it due to long experience on IBM notebooks. Of all the notebook pointer technologies, this is the only one that works for me. It works better than other company's implementations of track pointers (like on a Toshiba my wife had). Trackpoints don't bounce on planes or trains like the touchpads. Applying "belt and suspenders" caution, IBM also included a touchpad and two sets of mouse buttons (one high and one low); the pair closest to the keyboard are very convenient for dealing with the endless series of dialog boxes in modern applications.
All told, this keyboard helps my typing speed and accuracy. And even though I'm a speedy typist, my typing and mousing is still the bottleneck in most of the work I do on a computer.

Just got it today. It is pinker than it seems in the picture (I thought it looked sort of lavender). It's nice and tiny and light. The battery helps position the computer so that it sits up off the work surface and can breathe. The Windows 7 thing seems to be great so far: a lot better than Windows Vista. I'm not sure if it says anywhere in the description, but it comes with Word installed, which makes my life as a student much easier. I'm not a computer expert by any means, but from what I can tell, this easily will serve its purpose as an extra machine to take notes on and take to the library. It's very quick on the Internet, as well. A great deal for the money...as far as I can see.

With the new 25w mobile cpu (P8400 in my case) it runs cool enough to not need an additional platform cooler while on your lap (it doesn't blow hot air either). From the first reports they must have repositioned the Thinklight because my doesn't blind me (it's inside the bezel more now I think). You might want to download the additional Keyboard Customizer program from Lenovo to disable the forward and back web keys that are next to the Up arrow. I kept pressing them by mistake and causing all kinds of problems.
Pros: Thinklight. pointer mouse (hate those aweful touchpads! disabled mine). thin and light. Great battery life even with just 6 cell. Single latch switch. Cool running cpu. Bought through Ebay (ellan_mouse) for only $750 after 10% ebay discount with no tax or shipping charges (now that's a deal!). Keyboard feels the same (not flexy like other reports). XP Pro still available.
Cons: Screen off to the right, widescreen (I like tall more than wide), lcd screen not the brightest and bad off angle viewing (might be good for security and keeping peepers away though). Had to install program to disable keyboard buttons (forward/back web page buttons). Speakers sound tiny. I don't know if it's my Airlink 150N router but I'm only getting 72Mb top speed from its 5100N wireless. Not as easy to add memory as older units (must remove keyboard bezel now).
Seems like a lot of Cons but at this price I am not complaining. I have a huge home system so my T400 is just a stripped down unit with XP Pro (not whista), only 1 gb of memory (everything running uses less than 700 Mb), intel video, dvd only reader (I use flash drives and only burn dvds on my home unit). Didn't make sense to pay another $300 for options (video, burner) that my home unit can do better and faster. I still use the T400 way more at home for doing most things. I just got the T400 so I don't know if it will last as long as my old T22 has (still running when I sold it) but I hope so! It may not be the prettiest unit but it's light, fast, cheap and practical for the discriminating user.

I have purchased this laptop a little over a month now and it is definitely a great buy. The only issue I have with it is I have to wipe off my finger prints regularly because of the quality of its exterior but that is a minor matter. When I first bought this laptop, I thought I would not have been able to do video editing on it because of the limited video graphics but I have been using a video editing program by Magix and it works flawlessly. However, I have been having some trouble with vista recognizing drivers for an audio interface that I have been trying to use with this laptop . For the price of this laptop, this is real deal. Amazon.com had my purchase shipped to Trinidad in a less than a week with no problems. Great service.

BRIEFLY
The T400 improves on its predecessors as far as features and raw power, maintains the same ergonomics, connectivity and quality built that make it a corporate darling and manages to add a few 'fun' capabilities that could make it attractive to the individual shopper.
The best things the T400 has going for it are:
- quality build that promises reliable performance
- good CPU and business graphics performance
- fast memory
- impressive and extensive power saving options
- docking capabilities
- fast 7200 RPM SATA HDD
- great keyboard
- Centrino 2 WiFi, Bluetooth for wireless
- Gigabit Ethernet, modem for wired networking
- 3 USB ports, FireWire (when docked, 7 USB ports are available)
- decent 1280x800 (some models even better) display
- very cool running
- compatible with previous models' power supplies and docking stations
The few shortcomings worth mentioning would be:
- gaming graphics performance average at best
- battery life while improved over previous models would barely allow playing a movie
- design, while very functional can't be called 'attractive'
- lacks a built in camera
Reality is most people looking for a laptop have no idea what a ThinkPad is unless they happen to work for some large to huge corporation. This because ever since its beginnings IBM and now Lenovo designed and marketed the ThinkPads as corporate laptops. They threw in everything that a business user may want and omitted most of the (fun) stuff that regular 'consumers' may be looking for to keep the cost down. But, like everything else, ThinkPads evolve and improve too and the T400 comes a long way toward meeting not only 'big corporate' demands but of those looking for a personal use solution as too. Well... maybe I'm getting carried away here but it's probably fair to say that the newer ThinkPads, the T400 included can be a good choice for small business user as well as for the large corporate client.BUILD AND DESIGN
The T400 is yet another example of ThinkPads light, solid build. I've only had this one for a little over one month but I've had the T60 it's replacing for almost 3 years of nearly 24/7 utilization.
My laptop typically moves to and from office several times per week, gets docked and undocked thousands of times, may stay on for many days at a time, sometimes it spends weeks between reboots. Within the same day it may be running on 2 different docking stations and running stand-alone, with DC power or on battery, wired to the network or wireless or sometimes both, outputs video to several traditional monitors, sometimes to 2 displays at the same time, its own display or a projector, have numerous USB devices (external hard disks, security tokens, thumb drives) plugged in and out, and so forth. The T60 was able to withstand all this stress for 3 years with only its internal fan being replaced once in 3 years. I don't know if the T400 will be as solidly reliable but, by the way it feels, I am quite confident that it's likely to be the case.
Like all ThinkPads, there's very little flashy or cute in a T400 - the expected all-black, titanium (I believe) case, same sharp corners but still light and still built in a way that suggests 'quality' and 'reliability'.PERFORMANCE
Since our corporate IT imaged Vista Enterprise on my laptop, it's probably worth noting that my T400 scores 4.7 on the Windows Experience Index - this means that it supports all Vista features well. The lowest scoring components are 'graphics' at 4.7 which is only average and not suitable for graphics-intensive games but just about everything else is top notch. Here are the scores:
5.3 - Processor
5.7 - Memory
4.7 - Graphics
4.7 - Gaming graphics
5.8 - Primary hard disk
Microsoft states that "The scale of the Windows Experience Index ranges from 1.0 to 5.9" so everything other than graphics is all the way 'up there'.
This is what I got in my laptop:
- Total amount of system memory 2 GB RAM
- System type 32-bit operating system (Vista Enterprise as imaged by our IT dept.)
- Number of processor cores 2 - Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 at 2.40 GHz
- 64-bit capable Yes
- Hard disk(s) 160 GB SATA, 7200 RPM
- CD/DVD drive
- Display adapter type ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3400 Series
- Total available graphics memory 996 MB
- Display resolution 1280x800
- Network Adapter Intel(R) 82567LM Gigabit Network Connection
- Network Adapter Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN
Those concerned with battery life can switch off the Radeon and use the MobileIntel 4 Series Express chipset for that somewhat lower graphics performance.
I am planning to add 2 extra GB of RAM soon and upgrade to Windows 7 and will update my review if and when that happenes.
When compared to the T60 it replaces, the T400 represents a very significant improvement in raw CPU power, graphics performance and display. In runs a lot cooler and its lasts longer on a battery charge.RATING
I am very happy with this laptop's compatibility with the older power AC adaptors and even the older docking stations such as the Lenovo ThinkPad Advanced Mini Dock - Docking station. The Centrino 2 WiFi is an improvement over the Centrino chipset on the T60 - I know because, with my WiFi router in the basement, I can now connect reliably from my second floor bedroom while the older laptop couldn't always make the connections. The T400 running so much cooler is not only an indication of improved battery life but it's also a comfort issue when my laptop sits... on my lap, which it occasionally does.
5 stars are well earned because the T400 succeeded in making on of the best business laptops even better.

I purchased the Lenovo SL410 after my trusty, 5 year old Dell finally died and I must say, I am extremely impressed.
For the price ($625), I have yet to see any others come close. In fact, this definitily seems like a much more expensive machine than it is. The design, although boring and old looking at first, has really grown on me and I have come to appreciate the simple beauty of it. No fancy case or buttons, just simple and easy to use features that always work instantly one pressed or used.
The trackpad is great and it even has the scroll feature on the right side, which is extremely useful when browsing the web. The keyboard is also of great size and response and is even spill proof! Really, it has drains which will drain any spilled liquid on the keyboard. I love this feature, since I replaced the keyboard on my old Dell TWICE for this reason.
Windows 7 has been great. I never owned a Vista, but did work on a few and it was awful. The Windows 7 that is installed in the SL410 has been wonderful. It is basically Vista with all the bugs worked out!
The number 1 thing about this laptop is the SCREEN! Not sure if its standard, bu the one i have has the glossy HD screen and it is unreal. HD video on this is bar none! Similar to the the screens on a Mac. Great!
A close 2nd favorite thing on this is the build-in Wi-Fi. WOW! My signal strenth is always powerful no matter where in my house. My sister has a Dell Mini Netbook, which she paid $550 for less than a year ago, and she cant get any wifi from her room. With the Lenovo, I have full signal strenth from my room which is much furhter from the wifi point in our house! Unreal.
I purchased this as a work travel/home laptop so I didnt need all the fancy media packages that HP and those other brands offer, but this thing has rocked for media. I am an avid photographer and this thing has no problem working with my DSLR, Flip Videos and other gadgets i have. I also use with my iPhone and iPod and have yet to experience issues or delay.
I did my research before purchasing and nothing in this same price point can compare.
I strongly reccomend this to anyone looking for a fast, reliable and efficient machine for work or play.

I originally bought the tiny Asus eee PC for a good friend, basically as an "upgraded thumb drive with a screen" capable of web browsing. Needless to say, with Linux, a 4 gb "drive..." wi-fi, web cam and not much else, it was pretty sad and limited - but at the same time, it clearly showed some potential. But let me be perfectly clear: DON'T buy one of these.... It's basically a quirky toy. I can't tell you about the newer models.
I decided to pick up an Acer Aspire One for myself and overall, I was extremely pleased. With the familiar XP interface and a 160gb drive, a noticeably better web cam and far better performance via the extra 512 memory even running XP. It felt substantial, the monitor was gorgeous, keyboard far better than the baby Asus, battery life was good - but not great. The only rub came when it was time to upgrade the memory. The Aspire One came with one gb on board with the potential to add only an additional 512 memory chip. Still, every bit helps on the small netbooks.
And there's when you find the nightmare. The Aspire One is an absolute NIGHTMARE to upgrade memory OR replace a hard drive. It involves removing the keyboard, the mainboard, numerous levels of wires, screws and connectors. There are "how to videos" on YouTube - but they are not for the faint of heart.
While I could have gone on being generally happy with the Acer, I was really disappointed in the absolutely and uncharacteristically WRONGHEADEDNESS (for Acer especially) of this consumer unfriendly design flaw - especially since there is an easy access door on the bottom that only leads to an empty compartment for a possible future LAN card upgrade which many, if not most, users will never use. Then there was a growing amount of consumer complaints concerning overheating, thermal shutdowns, defective fans and more. Two more of my friends has bought Aspires after seeing and playing with my machine and one friend nearly immediately had thermal problems. Not a good average.
The final "temptation" to switch came when Lenovo managed to release it's S10 model with the 10.2 inch screen earlier than expected. Among the most prominent kudos in almost every review was the absolute EASE OF CONSUMER UPGRADE. One panel on the bottom accesses BOTH your *hard drive and memory slot. You can upgrade *either or both easily in under five minutes. I had the extra half gig in and running with virtually no effort nor silliness and the little extra punch made the already speedy little machine feel even quicker. Definitely worth the time and small price.
The unit feels light but sturdy, much like the Aspire. The monitor is simply spectacular! Bright and crisp!
*Note: Among Lenovo's more interesting features is a "one button restore" feature which enables the user to restore the hard drive back to the original factory computer configuration with all original programs and drivers intact and ready to go should something turn the drive into an unrecoverable basket case. (Of course this is why God invented ACRONIS TRUE IMAGE and made it so easy to use...)
BE WARNED: IF YOU PHYSICALLY REPLACE YOUR EXISTING HARD DRIVE, LENOVO'S MANUAL SAYS THAT THE ONE BUTTON RESTORE FEATURE WILL NO LONGER WORK. So far, I have not been able to get a clear answer as to whether another drive cloned with Acronis WILL work or not as the restore function seems to depend on files already stored on the original drive and not some physical recognition scheme. I can't help but believe that a clone, even one of a different sized hard drive SHOULD be recognized, but I'm not going to risk the restore feature just to experiment right now. I'll just save an identical sized clone drive for down the road.
Strangely - VERY strangely - probably the biggest reason I switched came from the difference in the 10.2 in screen. I'm a newspaper reporter and I frequently have to do photos and graphics modifications on site. You will be absolutely amazed in the jump from 8.9" to 10.2". ESPECIALLY when you are doing something that you have ABSOLUTELY NO BUSINESS DOING on a netbook... RE: Graphics mods and retouching.
The Keyboard is just about as close to a full sized notebook as you'll come. It's more comfortable and responsive than the Acer which is not bad in it's own right.
So all in all, it's really close. I've had great luck with Acer products over the years, but this time the LENOVO S10 just had a "LITTLE" too much of an extra edge to ignore.
BTW, regardless of which netbook anyone finally decides on, I should share that I was able to find one of the new Total Micro Technologies flat Power Station batteries ([...]) and these things are nothing short of AMAZING! They generally run over $400 each but I was able to find a gentleman who overstocked for a major project and bought two brand new for $99 each. Long story short: They will power the LENOVO with FULL POWER, NORMAL TO HIGH VOLUME, FULL SCREEN BRIGHTNESS, EXTERNAL USB DRIVE AND DVD for WELL OVER SEVEN CONTINUOUS HOURS. Prowl around Amazon and Ebay. You might get lucky!
Hope this helps! Do remember to check out the ACER, ASUS and LENOVO USER FORUMS - especially under TROUBLESHOOTING and KNOWN ISSUES before you take the final plunge. Good luck!

(More customer reviews)
I bought this mostly for my 10 year old daughter, and for my occasional use. I wanted something small, and relatively inexpensive (compared to a regular laptop). We have had it about two weeks and I'm very pleased with it.
Pros
*The keyboard is smaller than a full size laptop but it still usable, even for my large hands. (extra large gloves are typically tight for me). I wouldn't want to write a book with it, but for short periods of typing, such as blogging or e-maiing it works fine.
*The response time is good. Don't expect it to be as fast as a high performance laptop or desktop, but the speed is certainly acceptable. (and I'm the impatient type).
*Although the Lenovo website says that face recognition software is not offered on this model, ours had it included. It works very well as long as the lighting is fairly good.You do not have to sign-in using the keyboard; just sit in front of the screen for a few seconds while it recognizes your face. It also takes a picture of anyone trying to access the laptop. If someone is trying to use it without your permission, you'll be able to see who it was.
*It comes with a Lenovo front end that sits on top of windows. It offers you icons for the internet, online gaming, etc. You can exit it to go to the normal Windows desktop.
*It looks very sharp and is well designed. Ours is a deep red on the outside and white on the inside.
*Battery life has been very good. I don't have exact number but you should be able to get a few hours of internet use out of a charge.
*It is very light and portable, yet seems sturdy.

Cons
*These small laptops are called Netbooks for a reason. If you intend to use it for internet surfing, email, etc... it does fine. This is not the computer you want if you plan to run software that requires computing power and memory.Needless to say... this is probably not what you want to run Photoshop.
*There is no built in CD or DVD drive.
You can read the Amazon description to see all of the specs and features, but it does come fairly well equipped for the price. For the last 15 years, all of my past computers were Dells, and I still like Dell. However this Lenovo model seemed to offer the most for the money.

I have been using my new computer for about a month. It is superior. It starts up fast and doesn't come loaded with a bunch of intrusive dreck. The keyboard is good, and the screen is large and bright.
There are three things I don't like about the Lenovo:
It is very plain looking. I bought a laptop 'skin' for it, and that individualizes it, and makes it look sharp.
It's Chinese. I would rather buy American. However, the Dells and HPs I have bought lately have broken down quickly.
There's a little red 'pointer thingy' between the G and H keys on the keyboard. I have gotten used to it, but it's taken a while.
All in all, a great machine.

Q700 Sff E5400 500GB Review

Q700 Sff E5400 500GB
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased the Lenovo Q700 to use exclusively as a home theater PC. Its small size and black finish make an unobtrusive addition to the livingroom decor. My only complaint about its appearance are the bright blue flashing lights on the front which indicate power-on/sleep state, and disk activity. I'm looking for some translucent tape to cover the LEDs to reduce their intensity.
The Q700 is very quiet. The internal fan and hard disk drive produce a barely perceptible sound; nothing to spoil the movie watching experience.
It comes with a nice remote control for Windows Media Center, but like the remotes for my other HT components, it's been replaced by a universal remote (URC RF20). The supplied keyboard has a nice feel and a look of quality, but the keys have to be pressed down hard to ensure registration. I replaced the included keyboard and mouse with more appropriate wireless versions which I can use from the sofa on rare occasions. The Windows interface grahics and text is a bit to small to read comfortably from a distance of 10+ feet even on a large screen TV.
The Q700 comes loaded with Windows 7 and Windows Media Center. This was my first experience with either and I'm impressed with design and performance of these Microsoft products. My one wish is that it be possible to more easily customized the WMC menus to better match my HTPC setup. I prefer the MediaBrowser add-on for accessing my movie library. I was able to hide the unneeded WMC "Movies" menu item, but only by editing the Windows registry. This is not something a novice should expect to do.
The Q700 performs well as an HTPC. I cannot think of any situations where the Intel Dual Core was unable to keep up with the processing load. Any lack of responsiveness in the WMC interface can be attributed to the universal remote, not the PC itself.
The built-in TV tuner is very good. It performs as well as the my Samsung HDTV tuner. I use it as my primary tuner so that all TV functions are included in the WMC interface. I wish the PC was equipped with a second tuner so that I could watch another channel when a TV program is being recorded. As is, one has to switch over to the HDTV tuner to watch a different channel, a more complex operation than I prefer.
Another minor complaint about the Q700 is that the analog audio outputs are not parallel to the HDMI output. If a line is plugged into the green audio output jack on the back of the Q700, the audio to the HDMI is interrupted. The same is true for the front audio (headphone) jack. I wanted to feed the analog audio output to the whole house audio amplifier. As is, the lines have to be manually plugged in whenever whole house audio is desired.
Depending on your intended use of the HTPC, the 500 GB hard disk drive may not be adequate for storage of music and video. My movie library contains only 160 DVD quality movies which consume about 600 GB. I don't know how easy it is to replace the Q700's HDD with a larger capacity drive. I decided to include network accessible storage (NAS), expandable to several terabytes, to accommodate my expanding movie and music library storage requirements.
In my opinion, buying an HTPC like the Lenovo Q700 is preferable to using a standard desktop PC or tying your home theater into your office PC using an extender. A standard desktop PC is too noisy and consumes a lot of power compared to a device like the Q700. Using an extender (like the HP X280N, if you can find one these days) will reduce overall performance of your system and make unavailable some WMC features.
I highly recommend the Lenovo Q700 as an HTPC.

Lenovo ThinkPad T410 2518AJU 14.1-Inch Laptop Review

First of all, let me say that I have a bias for Lenovo when it comes to business class laptops. They are built to take the rigors of traveling and have features that are really meant for business users.
Pros:
> Small and Light. While I wish it could be lighter, for the size and specs this is about right.
> 1440 x 900 resolution. Which is a good resolution whether typing up documents or looking at movies. While 1080P would be nice, might be too high for such a small screen.
> Great battery life. Typically get 5+ hours off of this doing tasks such as word processing, spreadsheets, email and browsing. I expected better because of the Nvidia Optimus hybrid video processing, but its still pretty good. You can enhance battery life using a battery slice that adds to the batter, but unfortunately, also to the weight. I opted not to do that.
> Great performance. I should say though, that I upgraded to 8GB of RAM (maximum). The 2GB is too low for this laptop, and you should consider upgrading to 4GB at least; the 2GB stick is in one slot, so the other is free for the other 2GB. Once the memory is upgraded, the performance is great. I run virtual machines, and the performance of the virtual machines are great on this laptop, you wouldn't think that it was a VM. Also, with the AES extensions on the CPU, the encryption performance is great if you use TrueCrypt to encrypt volumes.
> Does not automatically install anti-virus or MS Office. Some laptops come with these apps pre-installed, so when you first start up, the apps are ready to run. Lenovo instead chose to have the installation files there and give you to option to install it; great if you want to run your own anti-virus or Open Office.
> Loads of ports. Four USB, one firewire, one eSATA, one video port, one SD/MMC card reader, VGA output and Express card, gives a lot of expansion possibilities. Plus Lenovo has docking stations for this laptop if you don't like plugging these in.
Cons:
> the video screen seems a bit grainy when viewing video. It's not a problem with documents and such, but it would have been nice to have a nice screen to watch a movie when you don't want to work.
> 2GB of memory is too low. This laptop comes with some bloatware... um, I mean, feature Lenovo apps, that take up memory. The thing is, I like the apps so I have not uninstalled it, but opted to upgrade the memory instead. Either way, you would want to upgrade the memory to at least 4GB.
> Not seeing the power savings or added video boost from the NVidia Optimus. I'm pretty sure there is some switching going on in the background, but the benefits are not so clear.
> No finger-print scanner. This is not so big a deal, but I think that every business laptop should have a finger-print scanner.
> Single jack for headphone and mic. While some might find it not big a deal, most headphone/mic sets have too jacks - one for mic and one for speaker. It would have been nice for Lenovo to include a cable that splits it. I'm having problems finding a cable or a headset like that in my home country - Trinidad and Tobago.With all that, I do not hesitate to recommend this laptop for business users. I stress business users, because if you are a gamer, you would be disappointed.
