Acer AL2223Wd 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor Review

Acer AL2223Wd 22 Widescreen LCD Monitor
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Overall I am very pleased with this monitor and would definitely recommend it to anyone on a budget. You'd be hard pressed to beat it for the price. However, it is not perfect...
PROS
- Screen is very bright (I had to turn it down), and very clear at native resolution
- Mine has no dead pixels
- "Ghosting" effect while paying fast-paced games is very minimal
- Comes with a DVI cable (many don't)
- GridVista software included is a handy tool that allows you to arrange open windows in a grid on your screen so you don't have to constantly switch between them.
CONS
- I can notice a *slight* change in brightness from the top of the screen to the bottom, even when looking straight at the screen. When I tilt the screen up or down, this difference becomes more apparent. But it isn't so bad as to be distracting as long as you have the monitor facing you perfectly.
- The screen is only 6-bit, which is below the ideal 8-bit. What this means is the monitor can only display a limited number of colors. Most users may not notice the minor dithering this causes, but to those who are into professional photo or video editing, you should probably cough up more cash for a monitor with an 8-bit screen.
- The stand is difficult to adjust and doesn't allow for much customization.
- The connectors are located in an inconvenient spot behind the stand.
For me, the pros far outweigh the cons. If you aren't looking to spend a boatload but want a large, impressive widescreen then this is the monitor you want!

HP W2408 Vivid Color 24-inch Widescreen Flat LCD Monitor with BrightView Panel Review

HP W2408 Vivid Color 24-inch Widescreen Flat LCD Monitor with BrightView Panel
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Note: Just had this monitor a few days but since no one has written a review I thought I would provide my initial thoughts keeping in mind that HP is not known for its customer support so I am hoping I don't get punished for taking a chance with them. So do keep in mind this is review based on less than a week.
My configuration: I mainly use my MacPro with the standard 256Meg graphics card. I pluged it into the DVI plug. I also have a Dell computer and I pluged it into the VGA plug so I can test post OSX and Vista (Business). However, my main machine is the MacPro so I will leave the details to a Vista person but will give you my intial reaction.
Wanted a large nice monitor without a matte finish and from my observations the HP W2408 was better than the rest of the field. The W2408 is very similar to the W2207 with the glossy screen and mandatory for me a pivot screen. The pivot feature is implemented well although with such a big screen there is only so much you can do with the screen in portrait mode. The W2408 is similar to the W2207 but 2 inches bigger (it is a monster but a nice monster) and a higher resolution. Before I continue let me eliminate some misinformation that ran rampant in reviews of the W2207 which I hope doesn't happen here. The box DOES, I repeat does contain both the DVI, VGA, and USB cables so if you don't have them you've been shortchanged. For Mac users, Yes, I repeat yes, you can rotate the screen if your Mac is at least no older than three years old. A down side is that the software/drivers are for Windows not Mac. However, it doesn't matter. The Mac has it's own drivers and I was up and running within the five minutes. There were some minor tweaks done in "preferences" and the HP on screen menu. On the Windows side I installed the software and happily surprised that I had the latest version. The installation in Vista was simple and uneventful. One downside is the autopivot/rotation software didn't work as it didn't work for some for the HP 2208. My Vista computer with an ATI card can assign a hotkey to rotate the screen so no big deal for me. For the Mac you have to go into Preferences and then click to rotate but I also have activated the display icon to make it easier to change from landscape to portrait.
Now the good part where I can seem less objective. The screen is beautiful! It blows others out of the tub IMO. The colors are so vibrant and a joy to view. Photographs look much more like the real thing and DVD movies almost look HD. Since this is HD resolution and has. HDCP for future expansion with Blu-ray and HD-DVD. It is simply a beautiful screen that looks better what currently Apple has to offer and much cheaper. The downside might be related to the strengths. It is best viewed straight on but the viewing angle isn't that bad. With bright sunlight you might have reflection but I cans imply live with it. It also has an ambient light sensor that helps. Overall I give it 4 1/2 stars (5 is nearest) since it should have more software for Mac (but still OK) and the Vista software doesn't work perfectly but good enough. The price is reasonable and should come down later. Should you instead get the 2207 instead of the 2408? It is $200 cheaper. That's a close call. With the 2407 you get a large screen and believe me you can live with a 24 inch screen. It also has a higher native resolution which I can tell when compared to the 2207. I would say it's a tossup. If you want to save money I think you will love the W2207 almost as much. I spent the extra money so my Photoshop CS3 has lots of real estate.

HP L2208w 22-inch Widescreen LCD Monitor Review

HP L2208w 22-inch Widescreen LCD Monitor
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this monitor to go with my MacPro 15" laptop. Because of all the great Amazon reviews, I was all ready to buy a Samsung for about $100 more, but when I saw how crisp and clear my boss's HP display was I changed my mind and purchased the HP L2208w. I love it! The color is a little cooler than my laptop display but it's totally adjustable through the Monitor>Color>Calibration>Advanced control panel. The display is crisp with full color and saturation ranges and nice deep blacks for photograph editing. It took about 3 minutes to get it out of the box, plugged in and in use. At first I used it in duel monitor mode with my laptop but now, most of the time I just leave my laptop closed and use the HP as my sole monitor. It coordinates nicely with my laptop and Apple keyboard too. The only thing I don't like about it is the adjustment controls. I can't actually see any labels or icons on them to give a clue what does what, though I think they are there, they're so faint I can't see them. That said, there are an ABUNDANCE of adjustments you can make, everything you can thing of, and if you click around enough, you'll eventually get it exactly where you want it. It's a really great monitor at a fantastic price and I couldn't be happier with it.

Samsung 244T 24-inch LCD Monitor - Black Review

Samsung 244T 24-inch LCD Monitor - Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The reviews for this monitor on the net are all pretty much accurate, but there are a couple of things that you should be aware of...
---First The Bad Stuff---
1) Yes there is the dreaded "input lag" that you've read about in the other reviews. However from my personal (using my eyes) tests the effect can be lowered by plugging in your mouse into the monitor, and I've only noticed this while using my desktop, never when playing games, movies, or console's. And over time your mind gets used to the small amount of leftover lag. However in the first couple of days your mind will want to physically not move the mouse. I know it sounds wierd but it's sort of a side effect that you'll notice for a couple of days (in my case it was about three).
2) You see the pictures available of this monitor online? Well it does not go any lower than what you've seen on those pictures. This can be a problem for some people, but after my initial frustrations I remembered I could just press a button and my chair would get a bit taller. Problem solved!
---Now For The Good---
1) I do have legacy consoles that use 480p and I will be getting the Wii. And I have to say I am thoroughly impressed with how this thing scales these lower quality images. Before I was ticked about the quality, but then I tried it via my TV Tuner (PC) and the quality was about the same, but the quality is (of course) superior when going straight to the monitor than from the Tuner (Something my last edit of this review said oppositely). I had to screw around with the settings a bit and send the signal as a 4x3 or "full" depending on which system I was playing, but overall the quality was very good and playable, especially when you consider how many more pixels this things got than the normal CRT TV.
2) But I don't have a Xbox 360, so I can't test that out via component, but from what people say about the other 24'ers, you should use the Xbox 360 adapter to display via VGA and it should be much much better than through component. (Oh yeah, and the monitor will only accept up to 1080i video for VGA capable (and maybe even DVI) video game systems as it's maximum.)
3) This monitor has extremely great color and brightness after about 5 minutes of messing with the tuner program, and in my case I decided to stick with the default settings because they were already perfect in my opinion.
4) Absolutely NO-GHOSTING (Woo-Hoo!).
(Visibly at least, all LCD's have a teeny bit of ghosting when at 8ms or below, but it's only visible when you get above 12ms. As far as this monitor goes, I have not had any visible ghosting whatsoever.)
5) 1080p Video's will blow you away. But to get the full effect you should upgrade your speakers to some good 5.1 speakers (I purchased the wireless logitech ones at the same time, and I couldn't be happier).
6) This monitor takes over almost all of your periphial vision (your viewable eyespace), and the "WOW" affect lasts for at least three to four days.
7) This is by far the very best 24' monitor on the market right now when it comes to features and actually friggin' working correctly without a hideous array of problems plauging it.
8) My monitor came with absolutely no dead pixels and without any kind of blemishes. The box was also in pristine condition.
9) And as icing on the cake, this monitor is HDCP compatible through the DVI port.
So if your looking for a monitor for PC and all your video game consoles then you've found the right and only good solution out there for the 24' inch market as of writing.

I recently got this monitor to replace my bedroom pc's 3 year old 17" samsung lcd. When i got it, i first thought, "oh dear lord this thing is huge!" which it is, but its very lite, and solid construction.
Pros:
1) BRIGHT! and i mean eye burning bright, i had to tone it down just to save my eyes
2) outstanding color. the color depth, and the overall image quality is incredible
3) no "bleed". i ran several image tests, and i found virtually no bleeding. something of a rarity in screens of this size.
4) the swivel is pinky pushing ease. also the height adjustment is versatile.
cons:
1) speakers are weak. but which onboard monitor speakers arent?
2) no headphone jack. who makes a screen with speakers and no headphone jack? i mean seriously, lets think about that. i dont need an ipod docking station on my monitor, but no in/out jack? or usb? killin me.
3) one stuck pixel. i had discovered one stuck green pixel right out of the box. i was very upset, but ran jscreenfix for about 40 minutes and it went away! beats a dead pixel or insane bleeding.
i would give it a full 5 stars if it werent for the missing jacks. i forgive the stuck pixel, cause that kind of thing just happens. i dont care who makes ur monitor, it just happens to them all (yes even sony). overall a great bargain, i would give it 4.8 stars if that were an option :)

Draper Accuscreens Fixed Gray Projection Screen (106-inch, 16:9 ratio)
Average Reviews:

EDIT: I purchased this for 274.85, it seems to be higher now.
I purchased this screen to use in my living room theater. It is functional but not outstanding. It is worth what I paid for it. The instructions were not the best but set-up was still fairly easy. The only real problem is that it came with a large but very slight discoloration. I think it's probably from getting wet at some point during shipping. The screen cloth is in the washing machine as I type this; if the stain remains I will not be happy. UPDATE: The discoloration/stain is gone after washing, all is well.
Pros:
Much cheaper than other screens in this size.
Machine washable screen surface.
Easy to remove/reinstall once wall clips are properly mounted.Cons:
Flimsy screen border, if you don't position the four included wall clips exactly right the screen will not stay on the wall.
Only comes with four wall clips, six would be much better, eight would be perfect.
The sides of the screen bow in slightly, this could be fixed with more clips.

HP W2207H 22-inch Widescreen LCD Monitor
Average Reviews:

As others have written, the visuals on this monitor are excellent, the sound is on the tinny side. I'm writing to cover new ground. I purchased this monitor from Amazon on May 21. It worked well for a week or so, then came the problems. The screen would go black when it was powered up. Unplugging worked for a while, but eventually the monitor went all white. To make a long story short, we called HP and the tech figured it was a bad pixel. In the chain of interviews one woman tech agreed when asked, that they would send a new, not refurbished monitor. When a refurbished monitor arrived, I connected to an HP supervisor and found the full story. When you purchase from an authorized dealer (Amazon is not) there can be a store warranty (eg 30 days, 15 days, whatever the store chooses). If I had purchased from such a dealer, and was over the store warranty a few days, the HP supervisor could have (at their discretion) sent me a new, not refurbished monitor. As it was, HP sent the refurbished model under a manufacturer's warranty. The HP warranty allows them to send a a new or refurbished replacement. It appears to be random, odds are it will be refurbished. This one year warranty on the model purchased from Amazon began not on the May purchase date, rather it is from the January 2008 manufacture date. If I had returned this monitor to Amazon, I would be subject to a 15% restocking fee. Welcome to a rock and a hard place. Failures like this are likely rare, but it leaves us with a refurbished model instead of the new one I paid for. Buyer beware.

Samsung SyncMaster 2243BWX 22-inch LCD Monitor
Average Reviews:

After researching many different 22" monitors, I chose the Samsung 2243BWX because of Samsung's proprietary use settings (e.g., a text setting) and its ability to pivot. I had reservations after reading about uneven LCD quality in other Samsung models and after reading that the monitor had to be tilted up slightly while pivoted. Neither reservation proved to be a problem: the LCD was flawless (with no dead pixels or lines) and, once pivoted, the screen's could be adjusted to a surprising extent. There was some backlight bleed at the top of the screen, but no more than other LCD monitors. I also can't speak to its suitability for gaming or video; for work-related purposes, it's perfect, however.

I decided on this monitor because of its small pixel size (.24~) compared to others, in the hope that the Text would pop clearly on the screen. In this I am not disappointed. I can read all of my email just fine and very clear and crisp. Also suprisingly my outlook email now shows folder layouts on the left, the list of email headers , then the preview screen which accomodates a full browser page, then the to do list summary... all on this one screen due to its width. I admit the monitor sort of looks stretched horizontally, but I find it extrememly useful. It can show 2 browser windows side by side no problem. So far I am very happy. I also use photoshop elements as a hobby and the pictures look great. Not sure about color management settings, etc, but I know that there are expensive monitors with those attributes. I hope my printouts come close to what I see. I took the chance by going inexpensive. But I'll find out in time..really haven't done enough with that yet to tell.. Would recommend to a friend , especially ones that use it mostly for text, data, and web browsing.

Attached Monitor to Laptop and it looks great. No dead pixels. Can rotate screen 180, haven't had a need for it yet, but looks like it could hold two browser windows vertically. Had tried an Acer 22in and the Viewsonic looks and feels like it is made better. I was thinking bigger than 24" might be nice, but going bigger than 24" would now seems it would be too much screen for the eyes if the monitor is on a desk. Nice upgrade, a little pricey, but looks to be a safe bet.

The VG2428wm is one of the new members of ViewSonic's new VG28 family. Its 24" (23.6" Vis) display with a native 1920x1080 resolution is big enough to replace dual-monitor setups. What makes it even more appealing is the full ergonomic features including 90o pivot, height adjust, swivel and tilt. Dell Latitude D420 12" Laptop Core Duo 1.2Ghz 1GB RAM Review

I have had this D420 for 2 years and it has never failed me no matter what. I take it every day to college. And to get to my school, I commute in the crowded NY subway for 1 hour one-way! I also take it when I travel. So far it has been in London (UK), Moscow (Russia), and twice in Kiev (Ukraine).
This computer is very thin and weights only 3 lb. It has the magnesium-alloy frame and high-quality plastic outer shell. It is really rugged and rigid - no flex whatsoever. It has withstood the beating very well - there are practically no marks or scratches after 2 years.
My laptop came with Core Solo U1300 1.06GHz processor, 1.5GB of RAM, and Windows XP Pro. The system is very stable - never had any problems with it. I installed AVG antivirus, Windows Defender, and Win Patrol HIPS. With all this running, I am able to use MS Word 2007, MS Excel 2007, Firefox (several tabs open), and Media Player at the same time with relative ease. I usually surf Internet, watch YouTube or Hulu, and do light photo editing with XNView. With an external DVD drive, I watch movies and rip CDs. Also, I work with Word, PowerPoint, and Excel every day. I even do some occasional gaming (WarCraft 3 runs smoothly on medium/low settings!) But do not expect this laptop to be lightning-fast. And do not try to play Crysis! This computer takes its time at the start-up (nothing too big though) and when opening multiple apps.
The computer is very power-efficient. The battery lasts for several hours and easily gets me through my day in college. The wireless card works just fine. I use it to connect to my campus network. At my home, I use wired DSL modem via the network card - no problems here either. When I went to Russia and Ukraine, I used the built-in dial-up modem - worked like charm. There is a slot for a Cellular HSDPA modem - never used it. I like the SD Card slot - use it a lot. The speaker is really tiny, but I use external speakers or headphones for music. The keyboard is really comfortable. I have had something like a dozen laptops, and I think that d420 has one of the best keyboards I have seen so far. The touchpad is good too, though I usually use a wireless mouse.
To extend connectivity and avoid plugging and unplugging numerous cords every day, I bought a Dell Media Base with built-in DVDRW drive. Now my DSL modem, speakers, printer, and power cord are constantly connected to the Base and the d420 sits on top of it. This also allowed me to move all the cords to the back, so they do not get in the way.
Long story short: I am really happy with it - highly recommended. You can also find very good reviews of this laptop on notebookreview and notebookcheck.

The Dell Latitude D420 is a 12.1in ultra-portable notebook designed to succeed both the Latitude X1 and the Latitude D410. In an effort to simplify its ultra mobile product line Dell has merged several traits from each of these two retired models to create the new D420. Specifically the D420 adopts the X1's wide-aspect screen and ultra-low voltage processor while maintaining the D410's aesthetic appeal and full-sized keyboard. In addition the D420 continues Dell's trend of not including an internal optical drive although external options are once again available.
