(More customer reviews)I was looking for a device that was ultra portable and capable of handling basic computing tasks such as essays, presentations, and spreadsheets. The ASUS Eee PC 1001PXD-MU17-BU has met those expectations. My daughter uses it every week to support her school work, and she really likes the 8+ hours of battery life.
I have loaded the usual software including Open Office and an upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium. The netbook has handled everything with ease. Given that it's a netbook, we have to accept that we're not going to do extensive video editing or gaming on this machine. However, we downloaded and played video from my daughter's camcorder without a problem.
The only upgrade I've done is to increase the RAM from 1GB to 2GB. That was driven primarily because I saw RAM on sale at Amazon and couldn't "resist" buying the extra RAM.
The only negative is that the speakers are a little "tinny" but not bad for such a small computer. We use a pair of headphones or external speakers when sound quality is important. Also, we haven't had it that long so I cannot yet comment on durability.
Overall, a really nice machine.
