(More customer reviews)A great tool for any Disc Jockey or anyone using sound tracks for performing. As it in a Windows based program and has 6 USB ports but no hard drive, I recommend using the Corsair 32G Flash Memory stick or WD Passport drives to store the music. They both work great.

(More customer reviews)The Polycomm Wireless Lapel Microphone works as advertised - we can walk quite far away from the SoundStation 2 we use and callers can easily hear us over the lapel mic. Works great for company meetings when the room is filled with people, a bunch more have dialed in, and the speaker is wandering around the room.
We had an initial problem where the receiver indicated it was receiving a signal from the wireless mic, but the microphone seemed not to be picking up any sound.
It turned out to be a menu setting on the SoundStation 2 that needed to be changed: Go into the menu, select "Settings" > "Aux Audio" and make sure it's set to "Wireless Mic" then press "Save".

Supermicro X8DTI-LN4F-O Motherboard Bulk Review

(More customer reviews)I'm super happy to be off a couple small 4GB desktops and onto a real server class computer. CPU has not been the bottleneck for me, but memory has been very limiting. Most of my test machines sit around idle most of the time, but having to pick and choose which ones you have to start and stop has been a pain in my side. But no longer. I now have the following hardware up and running ESXi 4.1.
Motherboard - SuperMicro X8DTi-LN4F
This motherboard supports 2 CPUs and up to 192GB of memory using 16GB chips. Although those size chips are a bit out of my price range I was able to find 8GB chips for a reasonable price. I've started with just 3 8GB chips and one CPU, but I'll be able to expand that up to 48GB before having to add a second processor. And I leave myself the option to add a second CPU and up to another 48GB memory.
Case - NZXT TEMPEST EVO
I read many reports of people having difficulties fitting their SuperMicro boards into cases or having to mod their case. You can see on SuperMicro's website that some of their board sizes are listed as proprietary. This one is listed as Extended ATX so fitting it into my second NZXT Case was easy. I only had to remove the two drive cages to allow the motherboard to slide into place. After the motherboard was installed, I was able to put one of the hard drive cages back in, but the board does not allow the second cage to fit. 4 hard drive slots should be enough especially since I'm not using any at the moment. I've installed ESXi onto a USB thumb drive and use iSCSI for VM storage. One note though, this motherboard is designed for the power supply to be on the top instead of the bottom. My power cables are having to run across the motherboard.
Power Supply - Rosewill BRONZE Series RBR1000-M 1000W
This power supply is overkill for me at the moment, but it has the two 8 pin connectors needed to use two CPUs and will allow me plenty of growth without having to worry about it. Not to mention it was on sale for same price as lower wattage PSUs that don't have 2 8pin connectors.
CPU - Intel Xeon E5606 Westmere-EP 2.13GHz 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1366 80W Quad-Core Server Processor
Like I said CPU has not been my bottleneck so I did not go for a high end processor. 4 cores at this speed should satisfy me for a while.
CPU Cooler - Intel BXSTS100A Active heat sink with fixed fan
Luckily I read other reviews where it was mentioned that you need a cooler with threaded screws instead of the snap in clips that come on most coolers.
Memory - Kingston ValueRAM 24GB DDR3 SDRAM Memory Module - KVR1333D3D4R9SK3/24G - 24GB (3 x 8GB) - 1333MHz ECC - DDR3 SDRAM - 240-pin DIMM
Non ECC memory would not give me the future expansion capabilities I want. The supported memory listed on SuperMicro's website I found to be very expensive. Kingston's website has a list of motherboards and memory tested and guaranteed to work with it. I found a 3 pack part number for my 8GB chips and found it at buy.com for a good price.
All this set me back less than $1400. I built my first desktop PC in 1993 for over $2000. More recently, the last couple I built still cost me around $500 - $600. I'll be able to easily run 10 VMs on this setup, probably a few more. I see my upgrade path being $400 for another 24GB of memory and 10 more VMs. Then a second CPU and 24GB more memory for $600 and 10 more VMs. Lastly another 24GB of memory for $400 and 10 more VMs. If I need that many more VMs in the next couple of years I'm in trouble. Total all said and done would be 40 VMs on one server costing $2800. My setup may be a little cheaper than others since I'm not having to purchase any controllers or hard drives, but I spent that money on a beefy iSCSI server already.

I've used it every single day of those three years. Its been extremely rugged and reliable.I've used and abused it and any other product should have already failed by now. It will probably last another three years of heavy use. I've even dropped the remote (which is only water resistant) in the toilet once and it still works fine. This product is made in the USA, not China. I'd like to also write about the support I've received from the company. They are easily reachable. I've contacted them to order the rubber seal on my collar which I've lost to my own fault. They sent me new seals for free.
I would definitely buy their products again but probably not for a long time to come due to its reliability. Its definitely worth the extra spent on.

(More customer reviews)I have owned this printer for several months. It is fast, the print quality is excellent, and I am especially pleased by how accurately it prints fine lines in line art.
However, the facilities for printing envelopes (the "smart" tray) are inferior. It only holds about 15 envelopes without jamming. If you want to print several hundred for a mass mailing, you have to sit and constantly feed the smart tray, and unjam it frequently.
The other problem is the sensor for replacing the toner cartridge. You are told your cartridge is low for weeks before it actually is, even if you run a home business where you use the printer heavily. And, you are not permitted to decide when to replace the cartridge. While the copies are still perfect, and there are no streaks or faint spots anywhere, the "replace cartridge" red light comes on and the printer will not print one single more page till you put in a new cartridge. Forget about running the printer a little faint for awhile, or shaking up the cartridge to get another hundred decent pages before you put in a new one. As cartridges are expensive, and there is no indication how much toner is really left in the cartridge you are forced to throw away, this is an expensive "feature."

Lenovo S10-2 10-Inch Black Netbook - 6 Cell Battery Review

Some say this has an issue with the fan and claim that is too noisy but thats not true mine is very quiet, doesnt overheats.
keyboard is good not as normal keyboard but you get used too it.
the 6 cell battery is a charm,with low brihtness you can get up to 8 hours.
some key features are 1key recovery,web cam mic,face recognition.
I love lenovo this is my first netbook and im already using it more than my primary laptop (wich is an ideapad y510)its just so easy to get on the web.
It has an quick boot option that puts you on the web or skype or im in less than 30secs, this option is so handy.
overall i recommend this netbook its good on design, price, and performance, i have never had any issue with my other lenovo and this one seems to be good as well.

(More customer reviews)The vital consideration for a monitor is the relation between diagonal measurement of size and the number of pixels on the screen--neither one alone is enough. I've found this 27-inch monitor to be perfect for 1920 x 1200 (from a ThinkPad T61p with digital connection). A display this size needs to be further away from the eyes to see everything; I find about 30 inches from my face to be comfortable. At this distance both the Windows UI and webpage defaults produce type which is easy to read and still gets a lot of content onscreen at once. In Word, for example, it is very easy to edit two documents side by side seeing all of both full pages at the same time. In a browser it is easy to see two webpages side by side.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this product in February and after 4 months I can state that this is a great value purchase. It's hard to find a comparable product with Blu-Ray etc. from a name that is known for great products and great customer service (Sony).
Pro's: Beautiful display, Blu-Ray drive, light-weight (for the screen size), price
Con's: Limited battery life, When upgrading to Windows 7 (Evaluation Copy) the shortcut keys become disabled with no patch/fix out from Sony yet, relatively low speaker volume.
This is a dream machine for the basic PC user, just open it up, plug it in and you are good to go. Out of the box it takes about 10-15 minutes to enter your information and register the product with Sony. Once you get to getting you feel for it you will notice that the display is amazing (especially when playing a blu-ray player). If you are using this as a desktop replacement you should definitely have external speakers to use with it due to the limited volume output from the built-ins.
My only issue is if you are like me and feel the urge to upgrade to Windows 7, beware that the "short-cut/quick keys" for media playing (pause, volume up & down and the s1 button etc.) will be disabled with no fix yet from Sony.

(More customer reviews)This is a great little computer that works well as a notebook, as a netbook, as a touch tablet, and as an eBook reader. However, it does require a bit of technical knowledge to get it set up how you want it because the amount of documentation and support from the GIGABYTE website is VERY limited, and you will NEVER be able to talk to a real person to get issues resolved (which is why I gave it 4 stars rather than 5). I received the computer quickly from the 3rd party sales vendor.

Haier HL46XSL2 Black 46-Inch Ultra Slim LED 1080p 120 Hz LCD HDTV Review

(More customer reviews)I had never heard of this brand, but the price was only $70 more than the 40in. TV we were going to buy until the price jumped $100. There were NO other product reviews to consider. Decided to take a chance. Product arrived three days sooner than the estimated delivery date. The deliver guys unboxed it, set it up for us, and turned it on.
Husband figured out how to hook up the DVD and game players. There are dozens of buttons on the remote and for me operating this thing was NOT intuitive. I had to actually read the owner's manual. Heavens! So far it does everything it's supposed to do. We rented a Blu-Ray of "Avatar" and compared it to the standard version of the same movie-- great picture! Use the aspect ratio control (ARC button at the bottom of the remote) to tweek the picture stretch. That being said, the picture quality is entirely dependant on the video input-- garbage in garbage out-- but the TV itself is capable of an excellent picture.
The audio however is OK for a flat screen, but limited; we plan to add extra speakers for surround sound, but haven't figured out how to make them talk yet. (Still reading the directions.) One piece of advice to the manufacture: you would do well to have the owner's manual, etc., proofed and vetted by a native English speaker.
So far, we are really pleased with this purchase, and you can't beat the price (not yet anyway). I might give it five stars much later when its longevity is known. (Our Zenith TVs, CRTs, have lasted 20 years so far, our 36" Phillips-Magnavox lasted 12 years until we blew it out with a power surge.)

Sharp LC19SB25U 19-Inch 720p LCD HDTV Review

The big V telco promised customers that signed up for their Fiber Optic to the home service triple play bundle a free Sharp Aquos TV. Apparently their offer was very popular and lots of customers like me signed up during their promotion.
I note that this particular Sharp LCD TV doesn't make mention of the Aquos model/brand, tough it is a very nice HDTV set if you are in need of a smaller set. As a kitchen/dining room set, or perhaps as a TV for use in children's rooms this Sharp model (LC19SB25U) would seem to be a very nice choice. It delivers crisp and sharp (no pun intended) pictures with it's 720p capability. (1080i or 1080p would downconvert nicely on this set) In my case, this TV serves me well for watching TV a few feet over on the corner of the desk in my den/playroom type area. It offers me the opportunity to watch TV programming while using my regular HDTV to play video games on, on most nites serving up the nightly baseball game :-)
The remote control is adequate, and the available connections are also quite adequate (including an HDMI port and PC input port, features not always included on smaller LCD TVs). Documentation included with this TV is complete and thorough without being too confusing or hard to use.
In most cases a larger TV may be priced within range of this Sharp LCD TV, and you may find the larger size is more important than the input ports or other impressive features found on this Sharp LCD TV. Research the features you'd gain or lose along the way before buying just to be sure you aren't making a bad decision.

QNAP TS-509 Pro 5-Bay Desktop Network Attached Storage Review

(More customer reviews)Bought QNAP NAS unit after some research. I have a lot of video files and photos scattered in several hard drives and it was time to organize. Unit arrived promptly and well packed. Hard drive installation was simple. Set as RAID 5 with 4 Seagate 1.5T drives. Using NAS software was able to easily upload video files under 2G but it has that size limit using browser based software(support explanation). Had to upgrade firmware which was a relatively simple process. After calling support was guided through process of mapping NAS on network as drive where I can drag and drop any file size. Support was quite good and prompt even performing remote hardware adjustments. If documentation had been better I could have probably been able to do this myself. Unit kept ejecting one drive from RAID (which required long rebuild process several times) which after some research appeared to be a problem with the Seagate drives(?). After another support fix this has stopped happening for now. Adding a 5th drive to RAID was not possible with their software(although it's supposed to)and again prompt support remote hardware reconfiguration resolved issue. This part I don't think the average user could pull off. So unit seems to be good but for poor documentation and apparent software issues which were fixed with good support. I will not get rid of my old drives (good advice for anyone) until I feel more confident with unit.

Samsung NP-RF710-S02US 17.3" Notebook PC Review

(More customer reviews)Ok, so I'm a radical computer geek. Have been for over 15 years. I'm partial to Windows PC, but before purchasing this Samsung laptop I researched price, capabilities, and speed for 3 months before purchase.
So, I picked up this Samsung on a killer deal - $899. Comparable units sell for $1200+. As a computer geek I was intent on a Quad processor with minimum 4GB main RAM, and 1GB video RAM - this unit has both. 4GB is just the minimum these days and this unit can support 8GB total. 1GB video RAM is essential if you are gaming or doing video/picture production. I to the latter doing photo retouches and video compilations. Of course I do some occassional gaming, but that is not my primary function.
Samsung TVs are renowned for their LCD/LED technology. The screen on this laptop is CRYSTAL clear, vibrant, and combined with the video card and video RAM snappy and responsive. It support full HD as well. And given that this unit comes with a Blu-ray player - oh, baby. One of the key items I searched for was a powerful quad processing latop with a fantastic display but yet light weight. Most 17" laptop weigh in at 8-9lbs with the battery. This Samsun unit is just a little over 6lbs with battery. It is light weight and easy to move around with despite the 17" display. Nor does this unit heat up on your lap - cool and comfortable. While the battery does ok, I also did buy a 8 cell battery either. Yet is easily handles my writing sessions when I kick back on the couch and don't want to be tethered.
Another feature I like as an IT person is that Samsung has carved out at 17GB space on the hard drive for the restore/recovery function. No DVD to boot from or risk of getting lost in the office. You can restore to factory shipping in a snap. Further, Samsung is innovative enough to provide the Samsun Recovery Solution. This is an app that, in the form of a wizard, guides you through creating a snapshot of your system that you can restore from. Now isn't that handy.
The keyboard is well made and has raised keys just like a Mac. Good idea and glad that Windows PC makers have finally embraced this design. The keys aren't backlit, so if you are a gamer who wants that, it might limit you. But let's be honest, if you are a gamer with any skillz, you won't need backlit keys - it is all muscle memory, right? The sound on this system is crisp as well. First time my wife has ever told me to turn down the sound on a laptop. So, movies on the go won't require headphones or additional speakers for car or hotel use. No additional gear to lug around. The other enhanced features finally on Windows touchpads are scrolls and swipe shortcuts. The Samsung touchpad supports many of the typical Mac swipe short cuts, but the one I find most endearing is the scroll function that activates on a web page when you touch your finger along the right border of the touchpad. In doing so, with just the slight movement of your finger, you can scroll up/down the active page. Now that is handy, no?! :-)
Look, if you are looking for a combination laptop that is high performance, with sharp looks, a cutting edge display and some nice usability features, this Samsung unit will fill the bill. It is a "gamer performance" laptop but elegant and priced like a high end business laptop. And honestly, if you look at comparable units with similar displays and h/w specs (at $1200+), you'll see the the Samsung unit is well priced below the competition and even more so if you find it on sale like I did.

I've had mine for about 6 months on a Nikon D-100 and have absolutely nothing I don't like about it. It's sharp from corner to corner at all zoom settings and any pincusion destortion is negligible even at 17mm @ f2.8. The AFS focusing motor is lightning fast and accurate. Filter size is 77mm, same as my Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S VR lens. Since filters this size aren't cheap, it's nice to be able to share. This lens will support 35mm, APS, and DX format film and digital sensor sizes and comes with a 5-year warranty. If you want the best, and can afford it, you won't be sorry you purchased this lens.

Initially ignored, as I tend to steer clear of such "too good to be true" offers, but I kept going back to this offer, and finally went for it and purchased the white model. I'm so glad I did. TV picture is crystal clear and a joy to watch. Audio is clear. Setup in about 2 minutes flat. Super narrow profile, and lightweight, and looks good too. Have not found the code for the FAVI brand yet to program into my universal remote, so I am using 2 remote controls. And everyone who has seen it (frequent visitor traffic through living room to my son's room) stops and remarks "Good looking TV. Great picture."
