This is the fastest notebook hard disk ever. I had another 7200 rpm HD before but with lower capacity BUT this 100GB is out of this world. It is fast and it is silent and it installs without any hassle. Highly recommended although it is a bit pricey.

Onkyo HT-RC270 7.2-Channel Network A/V Receiver (Black) Review

Onkyo HT-RC270 7.2-Channel Network A/V Receiver (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I will preface this review by saying I am not a die-hard audiophile who's interested in the schematics of the circuit boards inside, and how discreet they are, and whether or not they use premium toroidal coils and all that other stuff. I merely like watching blu-ray movies, playing hi-def video games, listening to music, and making the whole experience sound good. So with that in mind if you're looking for an in-depth analysis of the output of this unit using reference loudspeakers that each sell for the price of a baby grand piano, you might want to search for a different review. ;)
It took a while for me to write this review. Mainly because this is one seriously complex piece of equipment. It's got more connections, more buttons, and more overhead with regards to setup than my home computer network. Don't let this scare you away though, it is an absolutely outstanding receiver. I'll try to relay the experience I've had with it so hopefully you can get some value from reading my wall of text review.
My setup:
I'm not using any spectacular speakers for this. I've got a somewhat hodge-podge of KLH for surround speakers, Panasonic for the rear channels, and a large sub I've had for years and don't recall the brand (it's a 10" sub though.) My main interest was putting together a system that would sound immersive, and not necessarily give a crystal-clear reproduction of the source material (again - not an audiophile, just your average listener.) This is why I didn't bother spending thousands on speakers, and chose to use what I had from my old 5.1 system. The receiver is paired with a Samsung 48" LED LCD TV. For Blu-ray and games I've got a PS3, as well as an Xbox 360, a PS2, and a Nintendo Wii. For cable I have a Comcast HD DVR. The TV, PS3, Xbox 360, and HD DVR are all hooked up with HDMI cables. The Nintendo is using RGB RCA connectors.
Ok with that out of the way, I'll move on to what I went through after unboxing this thing.
Initial setup:
Connections -
This is where the confusion starts. It's a 7.2 receiver, but it's has *more* than 7 channels that can be hooked up to it. However it can only output 7 channels at a time, and this is why it's labeled as 7.2. I believe the ".2" stems from the fact that it's got dual sub channel outputs, for people who think one subwoofer is not enough. Looking at the connections this thing has is intimidating. It's got an unbelievable amount. HDMI, component, S-video, composite, USB, 11 connectors for speakers (YES - ELEVEN!), subwoofer connections, low level audio outputs, antenna connectors, coaxial connectors, serial port connector, optical connectors, a CAT-5 cable input to hook the thing up to the internet/world wide web, and other connections that I don't even know what their purpose is. WHEW!
Tackling the manual clears some of these things up, to a degree. When you're making your connections you will notice that inputs are grouped according to their suggested purpose. An example is the Cable/Satellite section. It has an HDMI input, component video inputs, an S-Video input, composite video input, coaxial audio input, and two RCA inputs for audio (left/right). Not all groups have this many, and some have different options such as "Game" - it has an optical audio connection. This is for flexibility. You'll want to use the best inputs your device supports to get the best results, of course. It would be silly to have a nice DVD player with component output and optical audio and hook it into the receiver using composite and RCA audio connections. So with that in mind, stick to the best outputs on your devices, and you'll have to play around with what makes the most sense with your gear. I would highly recommend putting this all down on paper before you start plugging everything in, otherwise you'll wind up going back and shuffling things about when you find out what you were doing won't work.
The way the unit chooses which input to use is through the on-screen display in the setup menu. Inside of it you can decide which group uses which input. The caveat is you cannot do something like hook in a blu-ray player to the Game group's HDMI input, then use an Xbox 360 component output on the Game group's component input. One input per group. This is why planning ahead is important to avoid this mess. Hopefully this clears up a bit about hooking devices up. I don't want to go into more detail, because if I did this review would be more massive than it already is going to be!
MY RECOMMENDATION FOR SPEAKER LAYOUT: This is COMPLETELY subjective. You may find that your preferences differ. My goal was immersion when watching movies or playing games. You're "limited" to having 7 surround speakers active at a time. The receiver supports some very funky layouts and surround-sound encoding. The speaker positions it supports are: center channel, left and right, WIDE left and right, HEIGHT left and right, surround left and right, and rear channel (either rear left and right, or just a single rear speaker.) If you have a huge room and the money, there's nothing stopping you from hooking up every single output to speakers. Just remember - the system will only drive 7 powered channels at a time. The channels that are driven are decided by either you, or the source material you're playing. Since I don't have tons of money or a huge room to hook up all the speakers, AND from experience I've whittled down my speaker position preferences: I went with center channel, left/right, surround left/right, and rear left/right. This (in my opinion) offers the best experience and most immersion. When you play back media which supports 7.1, it sounds AMAZING. Stuff moves behind you. To your sides. And in front from left to right. You can literally hear things flying in a circle around you. I tried out the height position just to see what it sounded like... wasn't even really noticeable at all, and a complete waste. I have not tried out the wide left/right as my room doesn't have the space to support it.
On-screen menus -
I will touch on these lightly as there are simply too many menus, sub-menus, and sub-sub-menus. The most important ones are setting up the speakers, mapping inputs, and setting up the surround modes for each source. Start by setting up your speakers by going into the Speaker Setup/Speaker Configuration menu. Step through each speaker pairing and choose a frequency to cut off at, or set the pair to OFF if you don't have speakers in that position. Next go to the Input/Output Assign menu and step through each source you have and select the input it uses (this is where you choose, for example, if your game console uses the HDMI input or the component input, etc., depending on which input you plugged it into) Last you will want to set the Listening Mode Preset for each source. The last step can be confusing since there is a myriad of choices to choose from. I've typically found that for sources which can output different surround modes that selecting DIRECT for all modes is the best except for 2 channel signals - then it's up to your preference on what listening mode to choose. "Direct" allows the source material to select the surround mode to use, so you hear media the way it was meant to be heard. If you force a surround sound mode, the receiver does some fancy processing of its own to simulate the chosen surround sound mode, which will not be the way it was recorded. For sources that do not have multiple surround modes (for instance a VCR), it's up to your set up and listening preferences as to the surround mode you choose (my preference based on my set up is PLIIx THX Cinema for almost all sources that don't have the ability to play back in a surround mode.) I'd go through all of them while listening to your source material, and make your selection based on what you think sounds the best.
There are some other items, such as choosing how far apart your speakers are, and naming your inputs more accurately, but again trying to keep this review as minimal as possible here (too late!)
USE:
The remote. Lots of choices, and some odd groupings. There are two different groupings with regard to your sources. One group selects the input you wish the receiver to play from (Cab/Sat, Game, etc.) and the other chooses the mode the remote is in (TV, Receiver, etc.) The latter is so the remote can control the device. You can press TV for instance, and if you have a TV that can be controlled via the Onkyo remote, then you're in luck and can operate most of the TV via this one remote. The remote could be laid out better. Given how complex the receiver is, it's not too surprising the remote is so cluttered.
The cool factor. Look, you can hook the thing up to the web. Why would you want to do that? Because it supports streaming audio over the web, that's why! Whether you set it up to stream from your Windows PC, or directly off the web with Pandora/Sirius/V-Tuner, it's worth it. I have some very strange taste in music, and when I went on the web with the receiver using V-Tuner (which is free with your Onkyo by the way) I found dozens of obscure stations that played back exactly what I like. If *I* can find music on there that I like, I almost guarantee you that you'll have no problems finding hundreds of stations to listen to. It's simply awesome.
On screen display. For menus it's very nice to have them displayed on your HDTV instead of the tiny LED screen on the Onkyo. Makes menu options much easier to scroll through and select.
Video. Setting up the video can be confusing, especially when it comes to mixing HD 16:9 sources with standard 4:3 sources. All the different stretching and zooming modes to squish or pull a 4:3 source so it looks good on a 16:9 wide screen HDTV is a pain. I don't...Read more›

This enclosure delivers very good value for what it costs.
Accessories:
- Included in the package though not pictured or listed in the item description is an SFF-8088 to SFF-8088 cable ($50+ value) for connecting this enclosure to your SAS enclosure.
- Thumbscrews for screwing your drives in.
Exterior:
- The unit exterior is painted piano black (finger print magnet) but otherwise seems fairly well built with no perceivable flex or rattles.
Performance:
- The power supply included is rated for 150W and seems to power a HP 10K-RPM SAS drive just fine.
- I installed three 1TB SATA drives and performed benchmarks and was able to achieve a combined 180MB/s sustained transfer to an Wiebetech Redport SAS Controller (Read only version of the ATTO H380 SAS Card).
Usability:
- The body is screwed in with thumbscrews for ease of opening.
- There is no eject mechanism so it makes drive removal a pain. (loses 1 star)

Bga 437(ON-BOARD),NVIDIA MCP7A-ION Review

Bga 437(ON-BOARD),NVIDIA MCP7A-ION
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Using WD Green 3.5" drive, 2x2GB DDR3, 90W Adapter, DVD Drive, 120mm fan at low speed.
Power Consumption:
1W @ OFF
2W @ Sleep (Win 7)
26W @ Idle
30W @ 1080p h.264 mkv
32 @ 1080p h.264 + hulu 480 p (Flash 10.1RC)
Overclocking:
I had it POST at 2.3GHZ, but doubt it would have been stable.
Finally settled on setting FSB at 666, which sets CPU @ 2ghz.
This let me set the memory to exactly 1200mhz, which I've found to be the highest this MB will go for memory. I had it stable at 2.13GHZ, but could only set memory at 1185ghz or so.Pros:
-N Wifi works great, better even than my previous full size Rosewill N Card
-Integrated bluetooth picks up my Logitech Dinovo keyboard
-plays my HULU, Netflix, and h.264 files just great (having installed Flash 10.1 RC)
-takes DDR3 memory, which uses less power and is now cheaper than DDR2.
-Win 7 seems snappy enough at 1.6ghz, but easily overclockable to 2.0ghz. I had it stable at 2.13Ghz, but I couldn' set the memory to 1200mhz.
-Comes with Laptop power adapter and the molex adapter that plugs into the MB can power 3 Sata devices, which GREATLY reduces wire clutter
Cons:
Hotter than expected, was hoping for completely fanless, but I'm not comfortable with this:
Cold boot temp was 35 CPU, 25 MB, but temp approached 65 CPU/ 45 MB when running 1080p video.
This is normal, considering it is a high powered GPU.
I read about a fanless Zotac board hitting 71C and no crashing problems.
Regardless, I threw a 120mm fan on the heatsink, which I cannot hear after setting to Silent in BIOS.
Motherboard reserves 512MB for itself, plus another 256-512MB for the GPU. So my OS reports only 3 of my 4GB, so make sure you have 2x2GB memory, else you'll end up with 1GB usable for the system.IMHO, This board is definitely a better value than Zotac's equivalent offering.

I've had the E-620 for a few weeks now and am quite pleased. Other options I considered were the Nikon D5000, Canon T1i & XSi, Panasonic G1, Sony A300 & A350, and Pentax K200D & K20D. Some comments with comparison notes:
1) SIZE & WEIGHT -- There's no point in having a camera that is so bulky that it doesn't get much use. Only the Panasonic G1 is smaller than the E-620 but not by much. There is a more dramatic difference in the size of the lenses, with Olympus being much smaller than all but Panasonic. Makes for a very compact outfit. For anyone used to the size of film SLRs, the E-620 is very similar. My wife also found it the most comfortable for her to hold.
2) BUILD QUALITY & HANDLING -- Very impressed with Olympus here. Solid, dense and with lots of sensibly placed buttons for direct access to settings. The other cameras had a less solid, plasticy feel, and their larger grips still weren't large enough for a comfortable pistol grip with my average size hands. The Sonys, in particular, had awkward button placement. The E-620 has a different style of grip where you hold the camera in the same way as old film SLRs, and is more appropriate to such a small camera. I carry the camera comfortably in my *left* hand, grasping the body and lens barrel with my fingers on the zoom ring; this frees my right hand from having to support the camera while working controls, and leaves my good hand open (I'm a righty).
3) LENSES -- The kit zooms from Olympus are reputed to be of higher quality than the others, as well as being more compact. So far I have been very impressed. I didn't want to buy a camera only to feel the kit lenses needed replacing; I'd rather spend on lenses that offer new capabilities, like fast primes or dedicated macro lenses. For anyone interesting in using legacy manual focus lenses, inexpensive adapters are available to attach virtually any MF SLR lens to Olympus bodies; used lenses can be quite inexpensive on eBay. Panasonic is limited by a very small range of lenses. For a two lens kit, the E-620 was the cheapest option.
4) IMAGE QUALITY -- I wanted to spend my time taking pictures, not fiddling with them in post-processing; Olympus has the best out-of-camera JPGs of the bunch (Canon and Pentax, in particular, fall short here). Although the smaller Olympus sensors are reputed to be a bit noisier, what noise there is is primarily luminance noise, giving images a film-like grain, rather than the colored blotches of chroma noise. I've found noise very well controlled through ISO1000, even with noise reduction set to LOW. For printing up through 8x10 and monitor display, I don't think noise is a concern up through ISO1600 (certainly with noise reduction set to standard). One caveat: be sure to keep gradation set at NORMAL (the default), not AUTO, unless you really need it; using AUTO gradation will noticeably increase noise.
5) IN BODY STABILIZATION -- I prefer in body stabilization to lens-based stabilization for two reasons: in body works with all lenses, and lenses can be more compact. You only carry one body but you are likely to carry multiple lenses, so it pays to keep them small.
6) LIVE VIEW & LCD -- Olympus has the best live view implementation (maybe tied with Sony) with quite quick autofocus. This is very important if you want anyone, e.g. my wife or random bystanders, who's used to compact cameras to use your SLR for snapshots or the like. The tilt & swivel LCD is very handy and seemed more natural than Nikon or Sony's implementations.Overall, I found the E-620 to be the best value for a two lens kit. Here are a few notes on the other cameras I considered:
Nikon D5000 -- Good build & handling, but a bit bulky. Live view isn't great. Much more expensive for a two lens kit than the Olympus.
Canon T1i -- Not impressed by the build quality, felt plasticy. Not comfortable for me to hold. Out of camera JPGs not so good. Inferior kit lenses. Much more expensive for a two lens kit than the Olympus.
Canon XSi -- Not impressed by the build quality, felt plasticy. Not comfortable for me to hold. Out of camera JPGs not so good. Bulkier than the Olympus. Inferior kit lenses.
Panasonic G1 -- Limited lens selection; will take legacy MF lenses but doesn't offer image stabilization with them since it isn't in the body. Plasticy. Not much smaller than the Olympus. More expensive than Olympus for a two lens kit.
Sony A300 & A350 -- Hated the button placement--ruled them out on that alone. Live view is very good though.
Pentax K200D & K20D -- Poor out of camera JPGs. Great handling and build quality. Short on features. Kit lenses aren't great. No live view / live view useless.

The good:
* Great Polk Rti A sound--matches the rest of the speakers in the line perfectly
* Real wood speakers at this price point is amazing
* Cherry finish is really quite beautiful
* Solid high-quality construction
No real complaints, but just a suggestion: If you're matching this with large tower fronts (for example, the RTi A7 or RTi A9) in a home theatre system, consider upgrading to the A6. It can better keep up with the bigger speakers.

Got this in the mail a couple of weeks ago. It is a very attractive unit, couple of things I don't care for.
1. Can't ever turn off the bright power on light. Apparently some people couldn't remember to turn off the unit when they killed the display, so now I have this bright white light that won't turn off.
2. HDMI passthrough only kinda works. The main reason I bought this thing was to pass HDMI from my various devices through the single source (and for its audio sync capabilities). Unfortunately for me, while my HTPC straight to the tv works like a champ, I only get a black screen for video (audio works fine though...) when passing through this device. From what I can tell this is a common problem with the 1600 (go check out the forum for owners).
3. HK support kinda sucks. Sent an email last week. No reply. Called them during business hours, had to leave a message. So far no help from them.
I have worked around this by just not using the HDMI, buttt...was kinda the whole reason I bought this, now its just like the one i replaced it with, bummer. In the end it looks pretty good and works pretty good, just not as good as they would want you to believe.
**** UPDATE ****
Short update, about one year after purchase I stopped by the Harman Kardon site to see if they were ever going to update this thing to fix my HDMI issues, and lo and behold... they did! There is a product update link on the 1600's support page:
[...]
Support Tab --> Product Updates --> Download the update.
This update is supposed to update a few bugs, and most importantly the HDMI issue of not passing video from random devices (media pc's, game consoles, etc..). I downloaded and installed (you'll need a 400Mb or larger thumb drive ((not sure why cause it was tiny, but that's what it says)) to do the update). The update was straightforward and took less than 5 minutes once you have the thumb in there (front panel usb port).
Anyway....the video now flows through, my media pc can now pass 5.1 (or 7.1) and the video actually looks nicer than when it went straight to my tv (deeper blacks or something, looks good). Harman support is still pretty poor, but the product performs so dang good for what it cost, and looks great doing it. Took this thing from 3 to 5 stars, light is still annoying but I'll let it slide.

CopyPal 3 Target standalone SATA DVD/CD Duplicator (1 to 3 Burners) D03COPYPAL Review

CopyPal 3 Target standalone SATA DVD/CD Duplicator (1 to 3 Burners) D03COPYPAL
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this to duplicate DVDs and CDs I produced of a musical study camp, so participants in the camp would have the DVDs and CDs to play along with at home. It is a glorious improvement over having to copy discs one by one on various computers. However, for copying 3 Gb DVDs, the speed setting needs to be turned down to 12x, otherwise a failure rate as high as 1 out of 6 may occur. To adjust burn speed and set up automatic verification and other useful functions, you will probably need the manual. The manual comes on a CD. Find the pdf file for the manual and print it out! Mess with the control panel until you get into Expert Mode. Function 11 under expert mode is Set-Up. Under function 11, you have many options for adjusting the burn rates for DVDs, CDs, and setting up verification features to reduce the chance of having bad copies. The good news is that once the settings have been properly fixed, the device remembers them after being turned off, so next time you can just turn it on and go. The manual makes sense to engineers and computer nerds, but with patience, if you can operate a TV remote control or a microwave oven, you should be able to figure it out. I would have rated this item a 5 if the manual were easier to understand.

Nikon Super CoolScan 5000 ED Film Scanner Review

Nikon Super CoolScan 5000 ED Film Scanner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First of all, let me say I am a neophyte when it comes to scanning. My mother passed away recently and I wanted to go through my father's 20,000 slides and scan the best ones before they, as many before them, disappeared into the hands of one of my 7 other siblings never to be found again.
After culling my father's slides I ended up with about 1000 I wanted to scan. After culling my own slides I ended up with another 250 slides. Additionally, I had about 250 slides from my grandfather slides And after that I decided to go through my color negative collection and scan the best of those as well. A daunting project! But honestly well worth the effort.
Most of my father's slides are Kodachrome. Much has been written about the inability of this scanner to scan Kodachrome slides and said about ICE4 not working with Kodachrome. Well, I have some good news The ICE4 does work extremely well for the most part. However, with Kodachrome slides it does produce minor artifacts in about 5 percent of the slides.I scanned with ICE (not ICE4) always on and then rescanned if I encountered unacceptable artifacts. I did notice that the scanner ICE feature was more likely to be stumped by old Kodachrome slides where subjects were wearing shirts with stripes.
The GEM ROC and DEE (the other stalwarts of the ICE4 other than ICE itself) work on Kodachrome slides as well, but I found that the results were unpredictable and that I could achieve better results myself in Photoshop far more quickly. The GEM ROC and DEE features simply took too long and slowed down the scanning unacceptably. The results, for me, were not worth the additional scanning time. So I never used these features. But the "enhance" feature on the scanner I used nearly 100% of the time with great results - much better than the GEM ROC and DEE features.
The scanner is fast and does produce wonderful wonderful detailed scans, easily demonstrating the grain in the transparancies at 3000 and 4000 dpi. The Kodachrome slides were a challenge to the Dynamic Range of the scanner, but I believe that most of the detail in the shadows that is there was extracted. With dark slides I used the VERY useful gain feature turning it all the way up to 2 in the really dark slides. Unfortunately, Kodachrome, with all of its many attributes, does have substantial downsides including a very narrow exposure latitude and shadow detail is simply lacking. I think the scanner accurately reproduced the information including the colors on the Kodachrome slides, with perhaps a slight bluish cast noticed in some cases.
It wasn't until I was finished scanning all of the culled slides that I undertook to scan my select color negatives. And this scanner really came into its own scanning color negatives. Don't even TRY to scan color negatives without ICE because the results are unbelievably bad. Even pristine negatives have scratches and dust that magically are erased by the ICE feature. What a godsend. The scanned color negatives were just beautiful with very accurate color rendition. But immediately I noticed much more grain in the color negatives (Royal Gold and Fuji Superia Gold) than in the scanned slides.
One note unrelated to the scanner itself. Until you've used a digital scanner to scan your color negatives you can't begin to realize how far superior Kodachrome, Provia, and Ektachrome slides are to color negatives insofar as capturing detail. Even the best color negatives have much more grain that Kodachrome. And the difference in color negatives is substantial too.
The included Nikon software worked fantastic for me. I downloaded a copy of VueScan which according to many reviews is superior to the Nikon software and found that for me the Nikon software was easier to work with and produced superior results.
The software did cause my computer to crash occasionally which was an aggravation, but a minor one when considered against its many attributes.
Setup Summary: I scanned at a 8 bit color depth (to reduce file size to 55MB and because I could not see a difference between 8 and 16 bit depth in the old slides) and 4000 pixels per inch with the scan enhancer turned on and the Digital ICE turned on. I did not use GEM ROC and DEE because of inconsistent results. I turned up the gain as necessary for dark slides and turned it down for light slides. Gain adjustments were only necessary on about 15 - 20% of the slides. The only two variables that I used once I was set up and running were gain adjustment and type of film or slide. All other adjustments were made in PS IF necessary. The scan at these settings took 90 seconds. Setting up the Nikon Scan window was a little tricky too. I placed the tool palette in the far upper right corner of the window with the scan window placed under it to the right. The image window occupied the largest portion space to the left.
I can recommend this scanner without reservation. It is a phenomenal piece of equipment.

Acer Aspire One AO751h-1522 11.6-Inch Blue Netbook - 8 Hour Battery Life Review

Acer Aspire One AO751h-1522 11.6-Inch Blue Netbook - 8 Hour Battery Life
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
To many previous reviewers: Microsoft won't legally allow them to put XP on it (or any other manufacturer of a netbook that is capable of running Vista). Do some research. That doesn't stop you from installing XP yourself, though. Or Linux. Or wait another month and go with Windows 7.
I like this netbook a lot. The screen and keyboard are big and comfortable enough to use without driving me nuts. That's amazing at this price point! When you factor in 2GB memory, the nice size hard drive and the LOOOOOONG battery life you come up with a heck of a machine for $330.
Drawbacks: It has no CD/DVD drive (how many netbooks do?) but you can get an external drive pretty cheap or network your desktop drive for free. The HDD is 5400rpm which slows things down but a faster drive would eat up more power. A solid-state HD would be great but would double the price of this thing. It still gets five stars from me.
NOTE: much of the slow performance that people are experiencing is due to the cr*pware that comes pre-installed (and no, I'm not talking about Vista ;) Get rid of EVERYTHING except the OS and the apps you use (check out "PC decrapifier"). Then install Avast or AVG, maybe spybot or spyware blaster and you'll be shocked at how much better it runs.

The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.) I have used an HP2408 24" monitor since Nov 2007 and I love it except for the pronounced color shift with vertical viewing angle. In comparison, the ZR24w produces uniform color from top to bottom. However, I have not attempted a color calibration, so I cannot comment on the trueness of the color.
The ZR24w I rec'd has [updated] 1 stuck-on pixel (0.2" from bottom in area of Windows taskbar) but no other defects that I have noticed. In addition to having a different panel type (ZR24w has H2-IPS), the ZR24w has a non-reflective, matte screen, unlike the specular screen of the 2408. That mirror screen has never been a problem for me since I work in a room with low lights, and a specular screen cannot be beat for sharpness. The backlight is good; I'm using a 15% brightness setting. The control buttons, including power and an LED power indicator, are in the lower right corner. The LED is bright blue when operating but is tiny, so that placement will not be a problem for me. The heavy stand is simple in construction compared to that of the 2408 but offers equal adjustments (height/tilt/rotate), and no assembly is req'd other than to slide the monitor onto the stand and click the locking lever into place. HP included a cable for each interface (DVI, VGA, DisplayPort), a USB cable to connect to the 4-port (2 on left side, 2 behind/under) built-in USB hub, and a detachable power cord. It's only been "on" a few hours now, but it seems to work perfectly.

Sennheiser MD421II Dynamic Microphone Review

Sennheiser MD421II Dynamic Microphone
Average Reviews:

I think I first saw/heard this mic in the original Concert for Bangladesh, and could not get over how cool it looked. Typically, I wouldn't consider buying such a thing based on appearance consideration, but the fact that George Harrison and Leon Russell felt them worthy, I considered it a safe purchase. To say the least, I was amazed by this mic. As a producer, I've used it for everything from vocals to horns to acoustic guitar - even capturing cymbal nuances that were lost on other more expensive mics. Live or in the studio, this mic is a serious performer that no performer or studio should be without - several, if budget allows. You won't run out of uses for it. The one down-side is that, over time, the frequency response goes dead (like any mic), but this can be factory-refurbished back to original specs. The mic comes with a graph read-out of your mic's unique response characteristics.

I purchased the Sony HDR-FX7 to replace my eight year old Sony DCR-TRV900 Camcorder. The image colors are excellant and the picture quality is even better because this camera can record in HD or mini DV. The microphone is also better and you can see the stereo levels in the view finder. You can set Zebra Lines to manually control exposere. You can even take still pictures on a memory card while shooting video. You can press a button and see the last few seconds of your last shot. I am a retired professional video cameraman and this camcorder meets all my needs.

Shoot like a pro with the HDR-FX7 High Definition Handycam(R) camcorder. Capture amazing video and still images in high definition with the first HDV 1080i 3 CMOS sensor consumer-level camcorder and player in the world. The three - 1/4" ClearVID CMOS Sensors provide stunning detail and precision, while a 20x Optical Zoom Carl Zeiss Lens maintains image clarity. Since the HDR-FX7 records video in high-definition, you can dual record still images at the same time. So no matter what the occasion, the HDR-FX7 is the perfect camcorder for the situation. A Sony developed Real Time MPEG Encode/Decode system with reduced energy consumption and compact size to fit inside a personal camcorder. This provides efficient MPEG2 compression, and recording and playback of clear HD images at the same bit rate of the DV format, so that High Definition video can be recorded on the same cassettes as are used for MiniDV recording. From the authority in lens technology, the Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T lens provides a high-quality 20x optical zoom which maintains image clarity and color while reducing glare and flare. Dual independent zoom and focus rings provide precise and detailed control over the amount of zoom and the overall focus of the image with just a turn of the rings. Fast, intuitive framing when zooming, and finely detailed focusing is easy with the natural "feel" of the rings. Easily adjust the amount of light entering the lens by adjusting exposure brightness in accordance with the iris and gain. The Iris control allows the volume of light to be adjusted (shutter speed and gain are adjustable). Though not small enough to carry with you to Disney, this camcorder opens up new opportunities for serious amateur and semi-professionals to record videos suitable for play on new widescreen HDTV sets. An IEEE1394 iLink port is provided for easy transfer to a PC or Macintosh for professional editing applications.
