I was searching for the 8-Outlet High Definition PowerCenter Surge Protector ( MP HDP 1800 ), then I stumbled across this protector. I am happy I did. It has 11 outlets which oddly enough is needed, the 8 outlets are just not enough. Overall great purchase. Only con; is that it is rather pricey compared to other options. If you are hooking up any home theater system, this is a must have.

Sony BRAVIA KDL46NX810 46-Inch 1080p 240 Hz 3D-Ready LED HDTV, Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have had my Sony KDL46NX810 for about a month. I have the 3D accessories, a Sony PlayStation 3 and a computer hooked to the TV. Most of the content I watch is on the internet over the computer, streaming Netflix, and Amazon Video on Demand. The 3D effect is a novelty. Once the new wears off I will put the 3D glasses in a draw and forget about them. I wish I purchased a less expensive TV that does not have 3D. Other than my disappointment with 3D, I am quite happy with the TV.

CONNECTIONS: My computer and PlayStation are both connected to the TV with 12' long inexpensive HDMI cables purchased from Harbor Freight (seller of cheap tools). The 3D starter pack I purchased came with a "High-speed HDMI cable..... (for the) transfer of both 3D video and audio signals". So far the inexpensive HDMI cable seems to work fine even with 3D content. The TV is also connected to the internet with a cat 5 cable. It has WiFi but I didn't need it (or try it). I have high speed internet access through the local cable provider. I have experienced no trouble streaming content.
ANTENNA: I get the same number of channels over the air as I did when I had a 7 year old generic HD TV. There is an onscreen program guide. During setup the TV asked if I wanted the programming guide from the internet or from over-the-air. I chose the internet option. On the TV guide channel I can see what will be on hours from now.

LOOK: The TV looks great. The Sony emblem lights up when you turn on the TV. You can turn that feature off if you want. I have the TV mounted on the wall. The monolithic design was great. I say was because the IR emitter that is required for 3D makes the TV not so monolithic any more. The emitter is the bunny-ears of the 3D television age. It should have been built in to the TV. It's not that bad but it does not add to the look and Sony is selling the "Monolithic Design".
ACCESSORIES : The remote control seems rather long and has many buttons. When I first got the TV I tried to learn the remote and how to get from thing to thing. After a day or two I navigated the options of the TV through the Home Menu. The Home Menu is easy to navigate and is very similar to the PS3 menu organization. Everything is easy to find and the TV is easy to navigate. The stations that I get over the aerial all have their own icon in the menu. There is also a description of what is on now. Everything the TV can do is available through the graphical menu.

The remote control also will navigate the PS3 menus and control video play back on the PS3. Play, Stop, Fast Forward, and Next all work as expected from the TV remote controlling the PS3. The cross button in the center of the remote is the same as the x button on the PS3 controller. The back button will move you back towards the main menu. I am very happy with the way the TV remote controls the PS3. I tried to use the TV remote as a controller for a game but there is no Start button so I could not start the game. There would be no advantage to the remote as a controller for PS3 games but I thought I would try anyway. I can't turn the PS3 on with the TV remote. I have the impression that the TV remote can turn on the PS3 but I have not figured that out yet.
DIGITAL VIDEO CONTENT: To make many of these features work it is helpful to have both a separate computer and the TV connected to the internet. When I first tried to register the TV, I was using the TV as the monitor to the computer. I could not register the computer until I was using a computer that did not need the TV as a monitor. Other then needing both the TV and the computer at the same time, the registering process was easy. There were a lot of steps. You register the TV with Sony then Netflix then Amazon Video on Demand, then what ever else.
Accessible through the TV are Qriocity video on demand, Amazon, Hulu +, Netfix, YouTube, Crackle, an RSS feed (Not a fully functional RSS feed) and a bunch of other stuff. Let's start with the bunch of other stuff. It is mostly internet shorts. I have a friend with a Roku and it is similar to the things that he watches on his Roku. Roku has much more content of the internet short variety. Someone will like some of these channels, I don't bother with them.
There is a RSS feed but you can't add anything to it or delete anything from it. It's an RSS feed that you don't have any control over. That said, it has episodes of Meet The Press an, the Nightly News and other things. I have not used it but on occasion I do like to watch Meet The Press. It's nice to know it's there.
Crackle is full of things that Sony owns. That you can watch at any time. There are 4 episodes of each of the following TV shows on Crackle ; Barney miller, Dilbert News radio, I dream of Jeannie, 10 items or less, the Jackie Chan Adventures, Vip and Bewitched in their TV episodes folder. There are also 8 movies. I have not watched any of this content. I don't know if this content changes over time. The list of shows available was from November 2010.
YouTube is surprisingly easy to use on the TV. If you want to search for anything you have to use an onscreen keyboard. That's laborious so I never do it. It does connect to my YouTube account. I can bring up my favorites or subscriptions very easily. I don't use this much because I have a computer connected to the TV but it's easy to use.

You need a Netflix account to use Netflix. I have not had any problems with streaming content through Netflix. I use this feature often. At the moment, you can only watch the content that is in your instant cue. Netflix on the PS3 has a much better interface. I imagine that there will be a software update that allows you to do more than just watch what is in your cue. That said it's easy enough to put things in your Netflix cue if you have a computer nearby.
I don't use Hulu+ because I have a computer connected to the TV. Regular Hulu through the computer and displayed on the TV works fine.
I have been very happy with Amazon Video on Demand. You can rent or purchases new and old movies and TV shows through this service and stream them to the TV. You can typically choose between HD and standard definition.I have used this service for years. I don't use cable so if there is a show I want to see that is not available on the internet I have to wait for it to come out on Netflix or purchase it episode by episode on Amazon.
I don't use Qriocity but it seems like a competitor to Amazon Video on demand. I haven't used this service. I looked at their pricing and it was the same as Amazon for everything I looked at.
DIGITAL AUDIO CONTENT: The TV has Slacker, Pandora, Berliner Philharmoniker, and NPR. The menu also has a Lollapalooza station but it is just a standard Slacker radio station. Slacker and Pandora are services that stream music. They have many built in stations. One can make a customized station simply by typing a name of a band or song and the service will build a radio station around that song or band. Slacker works well on the TV. You can turn the screen off while Slacker is playing or display album art. I have used Slacker for years. I was very pleased that it was on the TV at first but I don't use it because I have other speakers when I play it on my computer that are much better. I don't use Pandora but I imagine it works in roughly the same way on the TV.

The only thing I know about Berliner Philharmoniker is that you have to pay for the service. I don't even know exactly what the service is even though I tried to figure it out by registering on their website. Slacker has classical music and so does Pandora.
NPR on the TV was a big letdown. You have access to podcasts and program s on NPR through the TV. The interface was much easier to navigate and find things then the NPR website. I like to listen to the Planet Money Podcast and they have it. The disappointment came when I realized that all the content that I looked at was a couple months old. Perhaps at some point it will be updated regularly but as of Nov 2010 it is not.

AUDIO: The TV doses not sound great. My understanding is that there is not enough room for base speakers in flat screen TVs. The computer sounds particularly bad when played through the TV. The computer sounds fine with different speakers. I think there might be some equalizer settings that could make the computer sound better. The TV needs a base speaker. Sony does not sell a separate base speaker for this TV. It doses sell a stand with built in speakers and a couple of sound bars with sub-woofers. It needs something.

3D: You must buy a 3D sink transmitter and 3D glasses to make this TV into a 3D TV. There is no good place to put the 3D sink transmitter. It is the bunny-ears of 3D televisions. I purchased the Alice in Wonderland 3D starter kit. The sink transmitter has a cord that is a meter long or more and plugs into the back of the TV. I have never seen the kind of connector that is used for the sink transmitter any were else. If you wanted an extension for the 3D transmitter I suspect you would have a hard time finding one. That said it must be located near the TV. The instructions say either at the top or bottom of the TV.

My TV came with a "gift" for registering. This is separate from the registering the TV so it would function with the digital content. For filling out a second product registry form on the internet they are sending me through the mail the "Bolt" in 3D and "This is it" with 10 minutes of 3D content. I have not received these movies yet.
It also comes with a voucher code for four 3D...Read more›

Average Reviews:

I owned the original Klipsch Sub-12 (same model as Sub-12HG except minor cosmetics) and gave it to a friend a couple years ago. I've regretted doing that ever since and have been on the look-out for a powered sub with comparable quality at a competitive price. Needless to say, I haven't had much luck... until the Sub-12HG went on sale for $250!!! You can't find ANYTHING comparable for that price, or even around $300. I'm totally stoked and am going to love every minute I have this turned on. Perfect for music, movies, etc. You can control the amount of power the amp delivers to the sub (gain) and the frequency that is allowed to pass through the built in cross-over (adjustable from 40 to 120Hz). The auto-power switch is also a nice feature since you don't have to constantly hassle with turning off the sub when you are done.
All in all, I couldn't be happier with the quality of another sub in this price range... this is really a $500 sub and that's not MSRP crap! To top it all off, Klipsch offers a 5-year warranty on the sub, 2-year warranty on the BASH amplifier.

I have ordered this switch from two different Amazon marketplace sellers and both sent me model WS-C2960-24TC-L, not WS-C2960G-24TC-L as shown here. The fast Ethernet version of this switch has 24 10/100 ports and 2 Dual Purpose Gigabit uplinks (not 4).
If you order this switch, make sure to look at the model number before breaking the factory seal. Make sure you get what you paid for.

I don't normally write reviews, but this little guy blew me away. For $125 more so over the 1600 you'll get dual core, 2GB RAM, Windows 7, wireless keyboard and mouse and the VESA mount (its included). And the dual core will make a difference if you are playing back 1080P source material.
Be sure to download the flash beta 10.1 which uses the Ion processor's hardware acceleration or you will be disappointed. Also need the latest NVIDIA drivers. I'm playing movies both through Media Player Classic - Home Cinema and utilizing the PC to run the latest BOXEE beta which while having some bugs really is fun to play with. Boxee will consolidate your media library on your PC or network share (I'm using an UNRAID server, which is fabulous as a media server) along with content from the internet (TV shows, Movies, Apps, You Tube etc..). Thinking about playing with XBMC next (Which Boxee is based on).
The HDMI out is working great for both Video and Audio (not all HDMI outs on PC's support audio as I found out the hard way). There is a utility with the NVIDIA graphics to size the desktop to exactly your flat screen dimensions (no need to play with aspect ratio on your TV).
While not my use, it would make a great extra PC for the kids or significant other if all they do is surf, with an occasional word document here or there.
The PC is really quiet, I simply can not hear it at all and it stays nice and cool.
Highly recommended, but I guess you knew that already!

I upgraded from Fujitsu fi-5220c to this model, mainly for
increased speed. We use the scanner mainly to scan medical
records using PaperPort12 Pro. Unfortunately, the documentation
by Fujitsu and Nuance is lacking. For example, the Fujitsu 6140
comes with a excellent bundle of software but it is unclear how
to manage these features in PaperPort. A video tutorial demonstrating
the features, such as advantage of ISIS drivers vs TWAIN etc would
be most helpful. Otherwise, the scanner has performed well.

This is a solid value for a modest laptop. The very high-resolution 10in screen is large enough to work for most tasks that might require a full-sized laptop.
After putting Windows 7 Pro on it, I have not been able to properly calibrate the touch screen well enough to make it useful - even with the company's driver for Windows 7 Pro. But given the overall solid value of this netbook, a mis-aligned touch screen is not a big deal for my purposes.

OCZ Technology RevoDrive Series 80 GB PCI-Express x4 Solid State Drive (SSD) OCZSSDPX-1RVD0080 Review

OCZ Technology RevoDrive Series 80 GB PCI-Express x4 Solid State Drive (SSD) OCZSSDPX-1RVD0080
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Purchased the Revo Drive 80GB PCIe SSD from Amazon, and received it in 2 days (Amazon Prime). The card was purchased for business use (well, to test the plausibility of business use) and the initial benchmarks show the card matching the performance rating given on OCZ's website; exactly matching actually.
For office/admin use the area to benchmark is in small file sizes written in small chunks. For example, an 8 MB file written in 4 kb data blocks (say, you are editing an excel sheet that links with data from various sources such as the internet) then the read/write speed is only roughly 14 or 15 MB per second. This horrible speed, however, is twice as fast as a comparable Enterprise class hard drive (I'm comparing to a Seagate Barracuda ES.2) So, while not the 350 MB per second they advertise, it's still twice as good as the current mainstream drive.
Now, I will say, that the time it takes to get from pressing the power button to the first glimpse of Windows loading, actually takes longer then to get from that first glimpse of Windows to the desktop. Windows ends up loading about 5 seconds quicker.
With large file reads/writes, the performance is just excessive. If you work with large video files or large picture files, then this may be an excellent worthwhile expense. (Assuming 80 GB is large enough, otherwise you may need to look into a larger capacity drive) A 256 MB file written in 4 kb blocks was written at a speed of ~117 MB per second.
Gamers, it will load game levels very quickly. Almost instantly. That is all that I need to tell you on this. That little idea in your head about loading your games on here? Yes, it is glorious. Also, fresh install Windows 7 Pro x64 from a flash drive took all of 10 minutes.
***Make sure you download the drivers from OCZ's website and place on a disk so you can point Windows to them when you are installing. Otherwise it will not detect the drive. It is the same principal as the RAID card. (Arguably it IS the same as a RAID card) I had NO problems what-so-ever installing or using this product!***
So, for the office user? Typically I'd say no. However, if you work in a very active field, say Financial Trading, or Medical, where time can make a difference, then this drive is probably worth the expense.
(Tested on Windows 7 Pro x64, 8GB 1333 MHZ DDR3 Dual Channel, formatted capacity was a little over 74 GB)

This computer came highly recommended by everyone I spoke with. Plus my husband, who is a techie and builds his own computers, really liked the specs on this model. The only problem was that everywhere I checked, they had sold out of it, even though it's a brand new model! I ended up buying the floor model at my local computer store rather than wait.
Now that I've been using this HP Pavilion Elite e9230f for two weeks, I can see why this model flies out the door. After purchasing my Canon EOS 1DmkIV (10 frames/second) I found the camera would stall in a few seconds using my old cards. Shooting a bird in flight would be suddenly interrupted at the most inconvenient times when the buffer filled, which was quite soon. With this card I can shoot unlimited RAW files at 10 fps without slowing at all. Shotting RAW+JPEG still slows things down after the buffer fills, but never stalls completely. If you need to shoot continuous action with a camera that produces large files, it wil not get any better than this until the next generation card comes along.

I've had this little netbook for about a week now, and it is exactly right for our purposes: email, browsing, YouTube, MiniClip games, and word processing. It comes with Office 2010 starter (just word and excel) which is all we need. I'm not a techie and have no specifics to share, but this thing just WORKS. Right out of the box, you spend 10 minutes setting up, charge it up, and go. The first time you use Office you need to install it. I followed the recommendation of some other reviewers and (1) uninstalled some bloatware it came with (Acer games, NY Times Reader) and (2) installed Chrome and made it the default browser. IE was taking forever to load anything, but Chrome is much lighter and works perfectly. And the wireless is impressive-- it works even way down the long narrow hallway in my thick-brick-walls 1850's apartment building from where the router is placed-- our old Vaio couldn't handle it. The red is a nice warm cranberry/barn red shade-- a little pizzaz but it doesn't look like a toy. It's very light. It has no disk drive, but I see here on Amazon that inexpensive external ones are easy to find.
Two small gripes: (1) battery life is pretty short. Three hours at the most. It does charge up quickly though. (2) The keys are that sort of 'mushroom' format, they look just made for crumbs to sneak under and get stuck, and with kids in the house I feel the need to be protective. But obviously I need to do that anyway. And for less than $300 we won't be devastated even if the worst happens. Overall I could not be more pleased with this purchase!
I recommend the HP Mini case to go with this, black with silver swirls. It's just the right size, well made and very cushiony and protective.

AppleCare Protection Plan (Mac Pro) OLD VERSION Review

AppleCare Protection Plan (Mac Pro) OLD VERSION
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
For someone who has ALWAYS rejected the notion of purchasing an 'extended warranty' on ANY product purchase as just another cynical method for American corporations to wring every possible cent they can from us as consumers, I must IN THIS CASE ONLY, urge anyone considering the purchase of an Apple laptop or one of Apple's overly priced Mac 'Pro' workstations purchase the Apple'Care' extended warranty. (I am NOT some 'Leftie' anti-corporation/conspiracy theory nut-case! I simply believe that if I purchase a brand new, EXPENSIVE piece of technology - be it a motorcar, a refrigerator, a digital SLR, a flat screen teevee OR an 'insanely kewl' Apple Product [god-Steve's own description of ALL his groovy Apple Products!] - then it is reasonable to expect these 'quality' products last longer than 60,000 miles or 1 year! Consider all the blah-blah about 'quality American products' we are berated with these days.)
Why Apple'Care'?
Consider this: I purchased a Mac 'Pro' quad-core workstation a couple of years ago. Within less than 9 months I began experiencing MULTIPLE hardware problems. Of course, when I took this gift from the gods back to an Apple Store - and by way of many, many lengthy conversations with 'product specialists' @ AppleCare - the 'geniuses' (at the Apple Store's 'Genius Bar'), and the technicians in the Apple Store who supposedly 'worked on' my Mac 'Pro' all advised me 'it's a software issue'. Yep. You betcha! And that most-likely 'it's a THIRD PARTY software issue'. You know, buggy code like that built into products dumped on the market by the likes of Adobe... (Say what?!)
The 'geniuses' solution to my (perceived) problems? 'Archive and Re-Install!' They could NEVER find 'a problem' running their tip top diagnostic software (ASD + they even 'beat it up' with an 'intense' chess game software title the 'geniuses' additionally-use when making an uber effort to find the chink in either hardware or software and are unable to locate it by simply looping ASD for 24 hours or longer). If anyone has ever had to endure the gauntlet of 'Archive and Re-Install' you know that this option is the absolute LAST DITCH EFFORT one considers in order to make an OS play nicely once again with other software written SPECIFICALLY FOR that OS! (C'mon Apple! What's with all this smugness about how stable, how sophisticated, how kewl the Mac OS is?)
Well, long story short, I have the great fortune of being friends with a certified Apple technician; and unlike the 'geniuses' at the Apple Stores who just run software tests (because IT COULDN'T POSSIBLY BE A HARDWARE ISSUE - NOT a Mac!), my good friend is someone who will not accept ONLY the diagnosis of a software scan, no matter how many times you run it looking for a problem. Based upon my description of ongoing problems and with a series of screen captures I emailed him illustrating some of what I was experiencing, without even having the machine in front of him, based upon his years of experience working on Macs (and PC's) he advised me there were problems likely-with both the logic board AND the video card. (BOTH major hardware failures, both EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE elements for Apple to replace on their 'professional' top-of-the-line product, the Mac 'Pro'!)
*It took me an additional 9 months of wrestling with countless Apple representatives before the company (finally!) decided to replace the machine!* I will not bore you with the details. Suffice it to say, I have been a loyal Mac computer customer *over the past 20 years* and have decided I will NEVER purchase another Mac 'Pro' workstation! (These are Apple's 'professional' level 'workstations'. They are phenomenally overpriced for the quality of computing you get in my experience! When I originally bought mine, approximately two years ago now, I paid nearly $4000! However, because I STILL PREFER the Mac environment over the Windows OS I will likely purchase *an iMac* one day in the future and max it out w/RAM for the photo editing work I conduct every day. But never, ever again will I squander money on their so-called 'professional' equipment. And as a finer point, I own Apple computers ONLY. I will not purchase any of their other products, hardware OR software. Adobe does a much better job of designing creative applications, in my opinion.)
So, to come full circle, my advice to you, to 'get it' (AppleCare for one of Apple's workstations or laptops), is based upon the advice my Apple tech friend gave me early on: 'Just cough it up Mike. A couple hundred extra bucks for extended hardware protection MAY save you LOTS MORE in the future!' I could have never imagined how right-on his advice to me was! (And BTW, I continue to experience videocard hick-ups even with my brand new replacement, the 'Nehalem' box; AND this quad core 'super computer' REALLY DOES NOT seem anywhere near as fast ['blazing fast'?!] as one is led to believe by all the Apple hoopla on their site. Think I'm nuts about the 'quality' of these Mac 'Pro' workstations? Stop by DealMac from time to time over the coming months and take note of the TONS OF refurbished Mac 'Pro' 'workstations' the Apple Store is re-selling every now-and-then. Over the past year alone I have seen Apple dump hundreds of these 'pro level' refurb-machines that failed the first time out! Do your own research before dropping Big Bucks on one of these things! And if you have owned one of these machines for less than a year *purchase AppleCare before your initial 12 month warranty runs out*!)

There was one setting I had to change to get them to work. It was under multicast. I had to set all of the ethernet ports to static. Other then that it worked perfect. Also this switch comes with 3 years hardware and 5 years of phone support from Cisco. They have people on the phones 24x7 which is awesome. And to top it off, the people you speak with are American!

Sony BRAVIA KDL40EX520 40-Inch 1080p LED HDTV, Black Review

Sony BRAVIA KDL40EX520 40-Inch 1080p LED HDTV
We almost bought the less-costly Sony 40" KDL-40EX500 Bravia, but didn't because that model has been on the market since 2005. Instead, we bought this recently introduced EX520 which has later technology (e.g., back lighting); in spite of it having no Amazon customer ratings at the time. We looked at TVs in several local stores and no model in this size-range had a better picture than the Sony Bravia. Consumer Reports labels the 40" Bravia's picture (high definition and standard) as "excellent", their highest rating.
Taking advantage of a 30-day free trail of Amazon Prime, the TV arrived in only 2 days. It's well packaged, and I attached the stand to the TV in short order without needing the instructions. Turn it on the first time, and it goes through a question and answer setup procedure; e.g., it asks if it's against a wall or in the middle of a room so it can adjust the sound accordingly. After the setup, it worked perfectly with no adjustments of any kind.
Pros:
- Outstanding picture; stunning even. The entire screen is vivid with life-like skin-tones, can be viewed from a reasonable angle, and action shots are smooth.
- Sound is crisp, clear, and realistic - excellent in my estimation for a TV; speakers are along the top & bottom of the unit's rear, so it's actually louder in back of the set than in front. We have it on a stand in the middle of a large room, 8 to 9 feet from our easy chairs. Having played trumpet in various bands for nearly 50 years, my hearing isn't what it used to be; so decent sound was just as important as picture quality. Our backup plan, if the sound had stunk, was to buy an auxiliary BOSE sound system; but that would only be needed for true high fidelity sound.
- For connection to a wired network, this model can be directly connected to your router and the only thing you'll need to buy is the cable. Sony recommends Cat 7 cabling.
- The included stand is quite nice. The TV can be swivelled 20 degrees right or left.
- More connectivity options than most people will ever use.
Cons:
- For a wireless LAN connection, you'll need to buy an [over-priced] SONY proprietary device called a "USB Wi-Fi Adapter". Search Amazon on: UWA-BR100
- Although this model's 60 hz refresh rate seems fine to us, you might want to look for a 120 hz TV if you watch lots of really fast action.
- The TV cannot be tilted up or down if it's on the table stand. (Curiously, the Bravia made for Mexico can be tilted up to 6 degrees, but that model uses a different stand.)
Other:
- If the TV will be on a table, securely anchor the stand-base TO the table; this is crucial if you have small children. (From 2000-2005, there were 36 TV-tip-over deaths in the U.S. and three thousand injuries to kids under 5). This TV is so light, it could easily be knocked over, or pulled over by a rambunctious youngster. I.e., the stand weighs 6 lbs. and the TV only weighs 25 lbs. Even if will be no kids around, a tip-over could seriously damage the TV, which wouldn't be covered by any warranty.
- Many large LCD TVs on Amazon have some Customer Reviews citing maintenance issues with THEIR unit after the warranty expired. If this is a concern, consider buying a Square Trade 4-year warranty via Amazon (as we did).
Summary:
With its excellent picture, sound, and connectivity features, our Bravia 40" TV is a 5-star product.
