Peachtree Audio Nova High Gloss Black Integrated Stereo Amplifier with Built-in DAC Review

I just got the Peachtree Nova today and hooked it up to a pair of new Mirage OMD-15 speakers and Wadia iPod transport with digital coaxial cable. Then sat down to listen to Beethoven's late string quartets performed by the Quartetto Italiano. Words cannot explain how good this combination is. The purity and warmth of the sound is amazing and made me remember just why high fidelity makes all the difference to really appreciate classical music. Greatly exceeded my expectations.

It is not often that new milestones in audio are set: The Nova is one of those rare products that fit well into this elite category of firsts.Nova is the answer if you're looking to improve computer-based streaming audio to a "high-end" performance level; or if you just need a new millennium integrated amplifier. The Nova is a world class 80wpc integrated amplifier with enough digital and analog inputs and outputs to satisfy all the new digital devices, plus, it can handle a few of the old dogs like turntables (w/external phono preamp), tuners, etc.. It performs much like a high-end integrated amplifier because that's what it is.Whether it's digital or analog, the Nova will make it sound great! Along with its little brother, the Decco, they're truly the most versatile integrated amplifiers on the market and engineered for the way you listen today. Now all the time, effort, and money you've spent ripping CDs and downloading music is rewarded with truly incredible sound. Even compressed MP3 files sound almost indistinguishable from the original CD when played through the Nova or Decco. So if you like to rip or download...go for it. We'll make it sound great.

I recently bought this system . I am quite happy with it! Here are my thoughts: Everything that came in the box was as expected.
con : each camera require running cable until a local power source shared (4 cam)
I was looking for was ensuring that each camera didn't require a local power source, as I didn't relish the idea of running receptacles to each camera location.
I will like single cable with an video connector that runs to each camera and carries both power AND video signal .
Plus : very cheap, nice picture.
I was impressed with the picture I got from the night vision from the cameras.
Easy install software and run.
recommended this system
Some of the features I like about this unit is of course the night vision cameras, the ability to view the cameras over the internet, the ability to record continuously or as motion sensors.

Purepower Rx 600W Review

What more could someone want in a power supply? It has all the power one would most likely ever need in a power supply. It has the modularized cable management, so you only have the cables you need in your case, making for a nice clean look. The under the hood big plus is the fact that it's got the PFC (Power Factor Correction), it's a major plus if you understand how dirty the power from the average wall socket can be, with the power spikes and dips. I've had my Purepower now for a couple months and its been great.
Next time when I upgrade my computer my power supply will be ready for it.

APC Smart-UPS 2200VA for Servers, Voice, and Data Networks - SUA2200 Review

APC Smart-UPS 2200VA for Servers, Voice, and Data Networks - SUA2200
Average Reviews:

To the above Reviewer... All you had to do is just take the 20 AMP plug off and put a 15 AMP plug on. Sure, you can not use the full load capacity but your run time will be great. I modded my own Smart UPA 2200VA over 7 years ago. I am on my second set of batteries with this thing. It still runs stable... Very few pieces of man-made equipment can you say this about. So do not let the plug deter you... or others. Plus it has full sine-wave output... not stepped sine-wave. For example with a stepped sine-wave output, on BATTERY POWER alone, if you plug a florescent bulb into it the bulb would turn on and off, if you were using a regular light bulb you might see it go dim/bright/dim/bright. The stepped sine wave output is a approximation of AC (alternating current) but the sine wave is virtually identical to the power that comes out of the wall. Sine Wave output requires more expensive electronics.

XFX 850 W Modular Power Supply P1850BCAG9 (Black) Review

XFX 850 W Modular Power Supply P1850BCAG9 (Black)
Average Reviews:

A high performance product for a good price. At 850w this PSU can handle most high end systems, unless you are using the latestest Nvidia cards for SLI.
I'm running two GTS 250 cards with SLI and this power supply exceeds what I need. My favorite feature is that there are less cables required for the unit.
The basic cables, like the ones that plug on the motherboard are traditionally installed on the unit. However, power cables that are used for the hard drives
and other internal components are plugged into the unit separately. So, you only need to plug in power cables that you need instead of having all these
extra cables inside the computer that you don't need. It should satisfy my power needs for a long time.

I've been using APC products for 15 years, and remain a devoted user because their UPS's WORK. Our applications are primarily in the field of professional audio. Our consoles, amps and electronic equipment NEVER need servicing due to power fluxuation related damage. Use one of these big 3000VA units for a 30A circuit, and it just works -- you forget about it until the lights blink! An entire control room runs off of one unit, and we've not had any difficulties in my 12 years working in it. Plus, we're in Florida, lightning strike capital of the US!
Because the product description provided above does not tell much, I've included the summary from APC's web site:

Antec Signature Series 850W PSU ( SG-850 ) Review

Antec Signature Series 850W PSU ( SG-850 )
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I think Antec hired the same company that does packaging for Apple to package this power supply. If what's inside the box was garbage, the packaging wouldn't matter - but this is one solid huge well built power supply.
The box - there's a black cardboard/paper sleeve. You slide that off to reveal a black box top and bottom with a yellow box in between. Take off the top and you are greeted with a black cardboard insert with a real live signed by a human being performance print out. Under that is the power supply in a double looped cardboard and foam box. Lift that box out and there's another cardboard card that covers the modular connectors. All neat, tidy, packaged with just the right amount of materials to keep this whole unit well protected.
The supply itself. This thing is so pretty, I almost want to have it on display. The black paint is beautiful. Actually I'd guess this supply would work great with the Antec Spider "enclosure". You can also feel the quality in the weight, this is a heavy PSU.
Cabling - the fundamental important cables are hard wired to the PSU. Wrapping is done with black nylon mesh where the loose ends are capped with a big plastic ring that should never come off (no wire ties, no sad crimping). Antec was smart about cable separation, so you should be able to route the wires cleanly inside your case. The built in wires are standard motherboard wires (24 pin, 4 and 8 pin); 2 PCI-e 8 pin; 3 Molex; and 3 SATA. Probably just the right number of connectors for most installs. There are 4 more modular sockets 2 for more PCI-e 8 pin connectors; and then more Molex / SATA connectors. The supply comes with additional modular cables: 2 x 3 Molex connectors; 2 x 3 SATA connectors; and 2 PCI-e connectors.
So this PSU could provide power for a ton of fans, a big old load of IDE / SATA hard drives (9 of each), and 4 video cards (or 2 that require dual PCI-e connectors). If you've read this far, you are interested in this PSU. Please do yourself a favor, and don't just take my word for the quality of this PSU; type exactly this in google and read the first link: jonnyguru antec signature 850. You will be very very happy you did that, and you will be very happy you purchased this PSU.
It fit perfectly in my Antec P182 case. And it is very quiet when running. There are fancier, flashier PSU's. Antec took the silent strong approach to this PSU.

This is a very nice case. I am building a server for doing audio recording at home, and wanted something quiet and rack mountable. I have never built a PC from scratch before, so I was concerned with I opened the box. Case came with a bag a screws and miscellaneous parts (including a clear plastic window with adhesive strips, etc.), but no manual, no warranty info, no packing list - nada. Fortunately, my motherboard documentation was comprehensive. I still had to figure out how to hook up the SATA2 drives, and to use standoffs to raise the MB off of the floor of the case. However, all's well that boots successfully. Note, the power switch on the front does not stay in the on position, but that's by design. The support people will respond by email.

As noted in prior reviews, it is a little loud (fan noise) however, I found that after a while I don't even notice it. As to function, it has responded flawlessly to several brownouts / short interruptions in power. I have a Dell Studio XPS purchased at the beginning of 2010 and found out the hard way that the regular UPS I had (TrippLite Smart1500LCD SmartPro UPS) would not function due to the requirements of the power supply in my new PC. I read several articles about replacing the power suppply to overcome these problems, but decided that the wisest choice was to replace the UPS with one that provided true sine wave output that my PC expected. I have not been disappointed with my selection. I moved the old Smart1500LCD to one of my other PC's with less demanding power supply expectations, so I don't feel I wasted my prior investment.

This is one HEAVY UPS. Make no mistake, this is not really intended for home use. It is incredibly user friendly, except the weight. The software is great! The only real downside is when the unit looses power, the fans that kick on are more than a little noisy... but they only come turn on when it looses power, so that's a pretty small downside... Oh, and only 4 of the outlets are back-up outlets. The other 4 are surge protected only. All in all, the unit is great. And [...] got it to me FAST! I've ordered from them before, and will definitely do so again

The Quattro so far has been up and running for about a month now and seems to provide flawless power to my system which includes a 5970 (dual gpu) card, water cooling fans and pump, dual core LGA775 system, 2HDD, and 4gb of ram. The last power supply was a 750 that was outdatted with lack of 8pin pcix adapters so with the new power hungry card I selected this power supply which comes with more connectors than I need now, but should provide a good future upgrade path to either hexacore systems (AMD/Intel).

Simply put I will not buy a power supply from any other company in the future. Tested and certified in the factory with a report you can look at, these guys have an attention to detail that is appreciated. Mysterious problems on reboot with my previous 1200 Watt power supply went away once I dropped this one in its place. The only downside is their prices. The Thermaltake Toughpower 1350W Power Supply is designed with high quality and high performance in mind.
For those that like to push their computers to the limits.
My Windows computer, that I also use for powerful 3D games, had dual Geforce 295 video cards (2 GPU's each), for 4 GPU's total, and Quad-SLI.
Along with the Intel Core i7 quad core CPU, this system can be quite demanding on the power supply.
I needed a power supply powerful enough for today, and the future.
Once I got this power supply, I upgraded to the latest Motherboard, Asus Rampage III Extreme, the Intel Core i7 Extreme 980X six-core CPU, and dual Geforce 580 video cards.
The power supply handles this easily.
It also has modular cable, with enough connector for 4 powerful video cards, several hard drives, optical drives, etc.
Overall, it's a great power supply, with high efficiency, and 5 year warranty.

Tripp Lite SMART1500RM2U Smart 1500VA 2U Rackmount Line-Interactive UPS (8 Outlets) Review

Tripp Lite SMART1500RM2U Smart 1500VA 2U Rackmount Line-Interactive UPS (8 Outlets)

I am using this UPS for professional audio equipment so I am not implementing the automated shutdown features it offers for computer systems. The unit is well constructed and was easy to install in an EIA equipment rack. Using the rear rail supports was a bit of a chore as the device was meant for a server rack which normally has a much greater depth than the rack in which this UPS is mounted. A couple of cuts to the adjustable drawer glide style rear support rails with a metal cutting saw and I had attachment points at both the front AND rear of the unit. This UPS has worked without fail for over a year. We tried a few simulated power failure tests when we first bought it (the UPS feature has not been needed in the field yet) and it switched over without loss of power and ran the equipment for a more than ample period of time to allow shut down without incident.

Cyberpower PR1500SWRM2U UPS - 1500VA/1000W PureSine AVR Boost/Buck 6-Outlet RJ45 2U Rack/Tower USB/2xSerial Review

When I purchased a Dell Studio XPS9100 (with some very high horsepower components) for graphics rendering and video production 8 months ago, I didn't know the difference between regular UPS units and Pure Sine Wave UPS units... until repeated power issues at my home/office kept crashing my XPS9100 but didn't seem to bother my Studio XPS8100, which was protected by a traditional CyberPower 1500 UPS. The Tech Support people at CyberPower impressed me by immediately diagnosing the problem and suggesting a solution (Pure Sine Wave UPS). The local wiring issues have still not been completely resolved, so the UPS is triggered several times almost every day... but my XPS9100 AND XPS8100 never know that there's a problem. The controls are idiot-simple and the construction is extremely heavy duty and practical (comes with handles for rack mounting). The battery is easily accessible and you can barely hear the unit when it's running. If you need top quality and dependability in a Pure Sine Wave UPS for a great price, look no farther... because, if you do, you'll end up buying the CyberPower anyway... and I was a loyal APC customer for years.

Musical Fidelity - V-PSU - Upgrade Power Supply Review

Musical Fidelity - V-PSU - Upgrade Power Supply
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The good:
1) Same build quality, finish & size as other components in Musical Fidelity (MF) V-Series.
2) Adds an On / Off function to the V-DAC. Can keep it turned off when not being used.
3) Can power up to 3 MF V-series components at the same time.
4) Detachable / upgradeable Power Chord (PC).
5) 'Made in Taiwan' just like the V-DAC. Taiwan is known for making many hi-fi products. Usher Audio is one amongst them.
6) External PSU is an advantage in terms of Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) / Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) free performance.
The bad:
1) Does not have universal voltage input (110V - 220V). The MF V-PSU will only work in either 110V or 220V, depending on the market it's being sold. This takes away the 'travel with it anywhere' portability that the MF V-series was known for.
2) Very basic / cheap Power Chord (PC) & 1.3 mm jacks for such an expensive PSU.
3) The plastic used for the figure 8 power socket in the V-PSU feels delicate & flimsy.
4) It's strange that this product is not listed on MF's website.
Background:
It all started with me wanting to improve the sound on my Zone 2 speakers consisting of a pair of Mordaunt Short 902i bookshelf speakers & also to do more justice to my library of imported (made in E.U.) CD collection. After much thought, search & research, I decided to buy a Digital to Analogue Converter (DAC) instead of a dedicated CD player. This decision was also influenced by the fact that I had started ripping my CDs in WAV (Waveform Audio File Format) & storing them in a LaCie LaCinema Classic Multimedia Player LaCie LaCinema Classic 1 TB USB 2.0 Multimedia Portable External Hard Drive 301864KUA.
My budget was about USD400. I rounded off on Musical Fidelity (MF) V-DAC priced at USD300 & Cambridge Audio (CA) DacMagic priced at USD430 Cambridge Audio DacMagic Digital-to-Analog Converter with USB, Black. After comparing both in my system, I realized that MF V-DAC had the magic & CA DacMagic had the value. Midrange is very important to me & MF V-DAC had it in spades. It improved the already good midrange of the Mordaunt Short 902i speakers. The CA DacMagic was not bad either, it had clarity & separation in spades. It had all the bells & whistles that is not seen or heard at this price point. Functions such as filter settings, input signal strength indicator, easily selectable multiple digital inputs, on/off button etc, to name a few, really impressed me. There were a couple of things about the CA DacMagic that did not appeal to me. It made my system a lil' brighter, it was also less forgiving towards 'less than perfect' recordings & the larger wall wart (AC/AC) was uglier than the small wall wart (AC/DC) that comes with the MF V-DAC. Both PSUs did not have a universal voltage input. They worked either on 110V or 220V depending on the market it was being sold. I chose to keep the MF V-DAC & hoped to use the difference of USD130 to buy a better quality / flexible PSU & maybe get some decent Interconnects (IC) too.
Performance:
I've been listening to the MF V-DAC with the V-PSU in my system for a few weeks now. Straight out of the box, I placed the V-DAC & V-PSU one behind the other (see pix) to make it look like one single & long black box. When I first played music, I c'd instantly feel that the sound has become deeper, louder & wider when compared to the original wall wart. Unfortunately, the music also sounded a lil' flat, bloated & lifeless. I thought a few days of run-in should open it up but that never happened. I then suspected that the EMI / RFI from the V-PSU may be robbing V-DAC's performance. As soon as I moved the V-PSU, by about a foot away from the V-DAC, I was really surprised at the improvement I heard & it was repeatable.
The V-PSU brings a lil' more refinement & body to V-DAC's already superb performance. This is very evident when listening to female voices, the midrange seems a lil' more full bodied, 3 dimentional & smoother. The slight edginess in the upper mid frequencies has mellowed down a lil' bit. The bass is deeper & more robust. All this is unfortunately at the cost of speed. The MF V-DAC now sounds a lil' more slow, warm & laidback. This warm & laidback presentation is especially very good when listening / playing back music with lot of vocals & that's what I listen to most of the times. People who like a more forward presentation sh'd surely give these a try before buying them. I tried familiar CDs by artists such as Sheryl Crow (Hits & Rarities), Dire Straits (Best of Dire Straits & Mark Knopfler) etc to name a few. The supplied wall wart & the V-PSU are both rated @ 12V DC, 500mA. The wall wart is 'Made in China' but the V-PSU is 'Made in Taiwan' just like the V-DAC.
Design:
The MF V-PSU looks just like the V-DAC except for the lettering on the box. It now adds an On / Off function to the V-DAC. It's a nice touch, but the On / Off switch is right next to the power socket, on the side panel, so it's actually not easy / simple for everyday use. There are 2 black boxes to handle now, this makes them clunky together. Cable management has become a lil' more messy with both boxes having cables going in / out from both sides of the box. It's now best to hide them somewhere behind in the rack.
The MF V-PSU is stated to be a CRPS - Choke Regulated Power Supply (choke input) & not a SMPS - Switch Mode Power Supply (capacitor input). Choke input can be quieter, can help smoothen the mids & the highs of the DAC at the cost of speed (laidback presentation). Capacitor input on the other hand can be dynamic, can bring out the well timed bass of the DAC at the cost of a lil' upper frequency noise (forward presentation). Chokes are not necessarily sophisticated or expensive. In general, chokes can be cheaper than high quality capacitors. There are good & bad examples of both types of power supply. The MF V-PSU looks like a very good example of CRPS.
I doubt that the already efficient & background quiet MF V-DAC c'd also benefit with a good quality SMPS than the original wall wart. I can only confirm this when I get my hands on either 'Little Pinkie' from Rock Grotto (priced @ USD170) or vDAKPak from Russ Andrews (priced @ USD125). Both the above mentioned SMPS are also considered an upgrade to the V-DAC's wall wart.
Other options:
The combined worth of MF V-DAC & V-PSU now stands @ USD550. For about the same amount of money, + / - USD100, I c'd also have considered any one of the following for my budget system, depending on my needs:
1) Oppo BDP-80 as a transport (USD290) with Emotiva XDA-1 as a DAC / Preamp (USD300). Total = USD590.
2) Emotiva XDA-1 as a DAC / Preamp (USD300) with Emotiva UPA-2 (USD350) as an amp. Total = USD650.
3) Musical Fidelity's very own M1 DAC (USD650) that has far more appeal, bells & whistles than the V-DAC & V-PSU put together. Total = USD650.Conclusion:
The MF V-PSU is surely an upgrade for anyone wanting to improve the performance of the MF V-DAC and other MF V-Series components. It takes the already superb performance of the V-DAC to the next level. I can't imagine ever listening to the V-DAC again without the V-PSU. Musical Fidelity is known for it's warm & laidback house sound. The MF V-DAC & V-PSU together have that signature warm & laidback presentation that may not suit all kinds of music / taste, so it's best to try them before U put U'r money on them. For the price, I wish it also included universal voltage input. Surely for a British hi-fi brand like Musical Fidelity whose flagship amps cost upwards of GBP12000, the V-Series must be 'Value' in relative terms & is a great attempt to reach out to the budget conscious customers.
I bought the MF V-PSU from Divine Audio, UK, where it's currently on sale & is priced @ just USD145 not including shipping & tax. For the price I paid, I consider it good value for money. If U choose to buy the V-PSU from UK, U may also need a 110V - 220V converter such as the Goldsource Step Up & Down Voltage Converter Transformer ST100 (100 watts) Goldsource® Step Up and Down Voltage Converter Transformer ST100 - AC 110/220 V - 100 Watt.
Just my $0.02.
Brgds.
