Tenba RS-D30 634-713 Aircase for 30-Inch Cinema Display (Black) Review

I love choices. But if you want to ship a 30" cinema display, as far as I could tell, this was it. And it is not inexpensive! But what an excellent case. The outer is tough, the hard inner shell is strong enough for a baggage handler to jig on and the interior holds the monitor snug and scratch free. I would like to of had closed pouches instead of open ended dividers to hold the cables. I wish it weighed less. It is right at 50 lbs when loaded. To close for airline scales. And it is slightly oversize. The airline allowed it but they could of hit me for big bucks.
It arrived after along international flight with transfers looking literally like new and the contents unscathed. Not bad!

I bought this little darling at Ultimate Electronics at a super-low special price. Having never heard of this brand before I wanted to see it in person to make sure it looked okay. Walking up to the display this tv had the most ghastly picture I'd ever seen, dark and murky. We asked the salesman about it and, with a shrug, he said that's why it was so cheap and promptly pointed us to a much higher priced tv nearby. Husband promptly shifted his attention to the pricier tv but I'm a 30-year television broadcast engineer and I simply did not believe this tv could look _that bad_.
So I spent about 10 minutes tweaking the settings (the salesman couldn't find a remote for it, he claimed) using the menu buttons on the side. I didn't get it looking perfect, but close enough to convince me the store had the settings horribly messed up and the tv wasn't bad. So we bought it.
Getting it home and setting it up, right out of the box this little tv looked _splendid_. It is crisp and sharp with excellent color and definition. We also have two other HD tvs, a 63" and a 65" to compare to and I can safely say this AOC looks very good. We have it hooked up to Direct TV HD.
One picture downside--it needs to be watched at a pretty much straight-on angle. Looking at it from off to the sides, the picture deteriorates; watchable but not as good.
There are three HDMI inputs, one set of composite, one set of component, one optical audio out, one USB, one VGA, one S-video, one coax. The audio is only okay. Adequate for my purpose (a spare tv in my home office), but good audio would require an add-on home theater or stereo. The sound from the on-board speakers is clear enough but they're small speakers.
It came well-packed with plastic protective coatings on every surface, so I think it's unlikely to have out-of-the-box damage unless the box was outright smashed. It's very light, so if you're wall-mounting one person can handle it easily.

The vital consideration for a monitor is the relation between diagonal measurement of size and the number of pixels on the screen--neither one alone is enough. I've found this 27-inch monitor to be perfect for 1920 x 1200 (from a ThinkPad T61p with digital connection). A display this size needs to be further away from the eyes to see everything; I find about 30 inches from my face to be comfortable. At this distance both the Windows UI and webpage defaults produce type which is easy to read and still gets a lot of content onscreen at once. In Word, for example, it is very easy to edit two documents side by side seeing all of both full pages at the same time. In a browser it is easy to see two webpages side by side.

This is a beautiful monitor for the color. The first one I got did have a stuck green pixel. Exchanged monitor and replacement is perfect. I also found that the sound wasn't working....Apparently the sound wont work if you are using HDMI. (Called Manufacturer) Don't worry though, the sound is horrible!!! I didn't buy the monitor for the sound quality anyhow. If you buy this and get black lines around the screen you will need to adjust your over scan on your video card to allow the displayed portion to reach the edges of the screen. If you do plan to use this via HDMI you will need to buy a cable as it doesn't come with one. I would definitely buy this monitor again if I needed another. AOC tech support is super friendly and easy to get a hold of too. 1-888-838-6388 USA

ViewSonic VT2730 27-Inch 1920x1080 LCD Flat-Panel HDTV Review

ViewSonic VT2730 27-Inch 1920x1080 LCD Flat-Panel HDTV
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First of all, let me say that it took a lot of research to find this TV but I'm glad I made the effort. I have a 20 year-old AV center in my living room made of real wood and I won't part with it for anything. Unfortunately, it's age means that the bay for the TV is square and pretty small by today's standards. The best that could fit in it before was a Magnavox 25" CRT weighing over 60 lbs. In my research, I found that most 26" HDTV s barely fit. I wanted a Sony Bravia 26" to match my Sony Bravia-aware receiver but the price was too high, they only offered a 22" in that size range, and it was only 720p. Their loss.
Then, I discovered this unit from ViewSonic. They call it a 27" and trust me, unlike other manufacturers, it really is a full 27". Best of all, it's 1080p capable, weights only 19 lbs., and the thin left and right borders meant that it fit in my bay with an inch on both sides to spare! Plus, that extra inch in screen size translates into a noticeably larger viewing area. It arrived via UPS in the same box that it would be found if you bought it in a store. That's fine for store-bought, but it's pretty flimsy for a shipment delivery. The plastic handle was broken and the box was slightly damaged on one edge. I'm amazed that the TV was OK.
The picture is excellent and just a little less in quality that the big-name brands. However, the sound is a little weak, even in stereo mode. That won't matter to me since it is attached to my surround sound system. There are _lots_ of connections in the back meaning that you can turn this TV into the core of a media center without the need of a surround sound system to pull everything together.
Pluses: Great picture, excellent price, easy setup, lots of connection options, great for small spaces or a bedroom.
Minuses: Average sound.

Great value, providing alternative approach to high resolution 3D display and gaming. Interlaced circular polarization display enables use of passive glasses, versus the heavier, more cumbersome active glasses associated the pending generation of 120 Hz 3D HDTVs. The display has slight left/right eye bleed-through (ghosting) with high contrast images (like stereo test images), but most current and emerging 3D display technologies have varying levels of this ghosting present. 3D images from a 3D camera like the FujiFilm W1 digital camera look great on this display. The TriDef software associated with the display includes support for almost 200 PC games. With an appropriately scaled graphics card, the dynamic response and high resolution of the display enable comfortable, truly emersive 3D gaming over extended periods of time.

NEC MultiSync PA271W-BK-SV 27-Inch LCD Monitor Review

NEC MultiSync PA271W-BK-SV 27-Inch LCD Monitor
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Test conditions: Snow Leopard 10.6.6 in 64 bit mode on a Mac Pro with NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 graphics card using DVI cable, second computer is a Power Mac G4 tower with ADC to DVI connector
Conflict of interest: NEC provided the display for the purpose of the review and then offered to the reviewer at a significant discount from the retail price.
Few photographers or videographers have physical darkrooms these days. Instead, their darkroom exists largely in their computer. This virtual darkroom has two points of visual access: the display and some output mechanism such as a printer or TV screen. But all of the creative work is done through the display, making it the single most important part of the process. It is much more important that having the fastest CPU. With this in mind three years ago, I purchased a NEC announced the LCD2690UWXi, a 25.5" display that was available with its own calibration software (SpectraView II) and a specially calibrated colorimeter.
I have been extremely happy with my NEC display, but technology marches on. So I was particularly interested to learn that NEC had released a new 27" display, the PA271W-BK-SV (BK stands for black; SV stands for SpectraView) that improves on their previous impressive product. I was even happier that NEC agreed to provide AAUG with an evaluation display to review. At the risk of spoiling the ending, allow me to say that I have not been disappointed.
Ergonomics: The PA271W display is attached to a stand that allows it to be moved up and down over a 5" range, rotated 360 degrees about a vertical axis and 90 degrees about a horizontal axis. The latter allows the display to be used in landscape or portrait orientation. The display also tilts back. The available range of movements makes it easy to find a comfortable viewing arrangement.
Connections: Cables included with the display are a power cable, a DVI-D to DVI-D cable, a DisplayPort cable (not mini), and a USB cable. The PA271W is capable of handling 10 bits per color channel, although the DVI cables can only transmit 8 bits. A display port connection can transmit 10 bits per channel, but Apple's OS X only supports 8 bits per color channel. Based on comments from NEC's technical support staff, very few mini display port to full size display port adapters work well with this NEC display, Apple's included. NEC recommends MonoPrice's "Mini DisplayPort Male to DisplayPort Female Adapter" part # 5714 ([...]; $4.25 plus $1.56 for 1st class shipping) if you want to use the mini display port on your Mac. I have been using the DVI-D cable with my Mac Pro with no problems.
Also included in the box are screws for mounting to a wall bracket and a CD with the manual. Although the PA271W is available as a stand-alone display with no dedicated calibration software or hardware, I reviewed the model with these included. The colorimeter is manufactured by X-Rite for NEC, which then custom calibrates it. The software, SpectraView II, is a NEC product. More about this in a moment.
Setup is straightforward, regardless of whether you're using DVI or display port. The PA271W supports two video input streams from two computers, although both must be digital. If you have a computer with only VGA graphics, you can purchase the PA241W, which does support analog input. You can switch between your two inputs on either the PA271W or the PA241W with a button on the front of the screen. Interestingly, you can run a USB cable from each computer into the back of the PA271W and then output a USB to a single keyboard and mouse. Then, when you switch between input streams, you also switch keyboard inputs. So you have one keyboard, one mouse and one display for two computers. As the Barefoot Contessa says, "How cool is that?"
Of course, the real point of all of PA271W is the image on the display, and that is outstanding. At 2560x1440 pixels, this display has a high resolution for its size. Its color gamut is 97.1% of the Adobe 1996 RGB color space. This compares with 73% for the Apple 30 inch Cinema HD Display and 83.2% for the Apple 27 inch LED Cinema Display. For those of you who think that you can edit photographs with a MacBook Pro, the 2010 15 inch MacBook Pro displays only 75% of the Adobe RGB color gamut. These data come from [...].
Having a display with a great image is only part of the equation. The display must be calibrated and profiled. SpectraView II is the software supplied with the PA271W-BK-SV that performs this task. It is very easy to use and comes with excellent documentation. The process takes about 5 minutes or so from start to finish, except on the very first usage when you need to make some choices about your configuration. One of the settings is target for which there are several default choices as well as the ability to create a custom configuration. I use the Photo Editing target which has a white point of 6500 degrees Kelvin, a gamma of 2.2 and an intensity of 140 cd/square meters. It is possible to set multiple targets and have respective calibrations. This is very useful if you work in both still photography and videography, where the white point setting are quite different (6500 vs. 9300 degrees Kelvin). Most videographers work with ECI/NTSC color space rather than the Adobe 1986 color space. Note that I prefer to use the Native color gamut for the display rather than the Adobe RGB gamut. In any event, you can apply the appropriate calibration and profile for the work that you happen to be doing at the moment. There are a number of other preferences that you can set, although I found that the defaults generally worked for me. All of these are well documented in the SpectraView II documentation as well as in text supplied on the SpectraView interface. If you're stumped about something, you can call NEC's technical support staff, which I found to be excellent.
You may wonder why you should use SpectraView II instead of a calibration/profiler package by DataColor or X-rite. SpectraView II writes its output to a 14 bit color look-up table (LUT) that allows the display to achieve its high gamut level. Other calibration tools will achieve good results, but the gamut will not be quite as wide. I recommend purchase of SpectraView II with the PA271W even if you already own another calibration product.
One of the nice touches on the PA271W is the ability to display the input from the second video stream as a picture with picture (PIP) or picture beside picture (PBP). PIP can be done with buttons on the lower right bezel, or with software called MultiProfiler that NEC supplies on its web site. The software solution allows you to easily choose between PIP and PBP, as well as the size and position of the second display in PIP. I've found that PIP is most useful when I'm tracking the progress of a program on my second computer while working on my Mac Pro.
MultiProfiler has quite a few other capabilities, including the ability to quickly switch between several standard color gamuts (your calibrated profile, Adobe RGB, sRGB, High Bright and Full). If you're viewing files destined from web display and not in Photoshop at the time, you can switch to sRGB and see how the image will look when displayed on a generic display and then switch back to your calibrated display. You can also use MultiProfiler to control settings for the power-on LED on the front of the screen, and more importantly for the correction level that is applied to the brightness of the image on the display. This refers to the amplification that the display applies so that the brightness on the sides of the display is the same as that in the center. The default setting is maximum correction, which is the setting that I use. I've had this display for one month now and find the light extremely uniform.
The NEC PA271W-BK-SV is not an inexpensive display, especially when you add the shipping required to get it to Anchorage. What distinguishes this display from the less expensive displays manufacturer by HP or Dell, some of which have an even wider color gamut, is that the NEC display is guaranteed to work with Macs. The tech support staff has Macs in their lab, so that you can be certain that the display will in fact work with your Mac. In reading the threaded discussions on the HP and Dell web sites, it's clear that neither company explicitly supports their display on Macs.
If you are serious about color management and quality, I highly recommend the NEC PA271W-BK-SV. You could select the PA241W-BK-SV if one of your video streams will be analog or if you prefer a smaller display.

NEC PA271w-bk 27-Inch 2560 x 1440 1000:1 6ms Widescreen LCD Monitor
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The NEC271W is a professional display. In the world of displays there are so much BS marketing hype tossed around in the form of insane contrast ratios, response times, memory card readers, 7 different kinds of inputs including one for your toaster and more. Anyone shopping for a display based on having a feature list you can rattle off against your friends shouldn't be looking at this display as there's plenty of Dell grade displays that will give you all that.
If you're a serious professional designer, photographer, or in the print pre-press area where color accuracy and control is critical this is your display. This is especially an important display for you if you're constantly having to work within different color gamuts as the display allows you to switch between AdobeRGB, sRGB, and the native full gamut all via the front panel. The amount of control NEC provides for this display is amazing. NEC allows you to calibrate this display to match the white point of the paper stock being used in a printer and even adjust the CMYK levels displayed so that what you see on screen is nearly proof perfect as to what will be printed. NEC tests every P-IPS LCD panel that goes into these displays and only uses the panels with the best overall uniformity. Any uniformity that's slightly off is calibrated at the factory and stored within the display hardware. There are no hot spots and the blacks are astonishingly deep, but that's what is to be expected when using P-IPS panels. These are the best LCD panels on the market period as they're a 10bit panel natively which results in an exceptionally wide color gamut, while traditional LCD panels are 8bit and cannot display as many colors.
What people might not like in the professional world is the change from 16:10 to 16:9 aspect ratio with this display. The resolution is the same width as a 30" display, but with 3 fewer inches the dpi is drastically increased as is the sharpness. The tradeoff is the vertical resolution of 1440 which lose a bit of display height compared to a traditional 30" 16:10. For me this isn't a problem, but for someone else this may be irritating, but in the world of design professionals it doesn't take much to get their panties in a bind.
This is a DVI and DisplayPort based display for inputs and requires a dual-link DVI video card. If you're on a newer Mac you will have a Mini DisplayPort, but will need an adaptor from the full-size plug to mini version. Normally I'd say buy a cable that does this, but apparently there are issues with how the cables are manufactured from Monoprice and several you'll find on Amazon. The gist is a lot of displays and video cards will ignore the incorrect wiring and things will work. This NEC plays by the rules strictly with newer ATI (AMD) video cards which will cause all sorts of sleep//wake issues. The solution is to use the included DisplayPort cable with a Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort dongle for now. Search around for this issue for more info, otherwise go with DVI if you can. This doesn't have HDMI inputs and that's a good thing. This display is nearly double the resolution that HDMI could handle and would require a hardware scaler in the display turning this professional tool into a consumer toy. Anyone that wants HDMI, composite, component, etc should look elsewhere in the pro-sumer or consumer grade display lines.
This display is enabling me to do much better work. Amazing color, viewing angles, sharpness, screen real estate, and a no nonsense bezel that's not plastered with gaudy logos are my quick awesome points, but everything above with multiple gamuts and the unreal control are panty misting worthy as a design pro. I'm in love and this is an excellent upgrade from the NEC LCD2690WUXi2 I previously had.

27IN Ws PX2710MW VGA Dvi HDmi Black Spkr
Average Reviews:

Overall the monitor is great, even more so at $250.00 (search around for this price).
Pros:
-size, brightness, and resolution
-built-in speakers
-vga, dvi, hdmi connectors
-no problems unpacking and setting up
Cons:
-no way to adjust height (I used a ream of paper under the base and solved the problem)
-the volume from the speakers is good, but they do sound tiny (but I prefer this to standalone speakers, so it works for me)
It is great for working with photographs and multiple documents.
This is the third Planar monitor I own, upgrading to a larger size, and they have all been great (I always go for the built-in speakers models). I highly recommend this, specially at this price point.

Acer S273HL bmii 27" Full HD LED Monitor Review

Acer S273HL bmii 27 Full HD LED Monitor

This is such an amazing monitor, I can't believe it was priced so well. The picture is bright with incredible contrast and colors. Perfectly uniform brightness, and it's a matte finish so there's no glare. Overall it's very easy on the eyes, and I spend a lot of time in front of the computer. The screen is huge and so thin and light. It puts off no heat at all. Installation was simple and I've used it with a PC and 2 Macs (Mac Mini & Macbook Pro). All of them found it right away and identified it correctly as "S273HL" and it runs perfectly at 1920x1080 resolution. I've also used an Apple 27" Cinema display this display is comparable at less than half the price.
I use this mostly for: work, photography and Photoshop, watching videos, web browsing, web development.
I was initially hesitant to buy this monitor for these 2 reasons:
1) The first reviewer of this item gave it 1 star and wrote a bad review. I made a leap of faith regardless and am so glad that I did. I'm pretty sure that the first reviewer did not set it up right, used the wrong drivers, or had a problem with their system. I've used this on 3 computers and it is perfect on all of them, with no black frames or resolution issues at all. I hope that my review is helpful for those that also saw the 1-star review.
2) The specs state that it's "Windows 7 Ready" but say nothing about Mac OSX. I know it's just a monitor so I shouldn't have worried, but I've heard of others having driver issues on OSX. Again, decided it was worth a shot and was so happy when both of my Macs discovered it correctly.
Overall, I am completely satisfied with this purchase, and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great 27" LED monitor with an amazing picture. The benefits of LED are great... 12 million to 1 contrast ratio, bright, vivid colors, low power consumption, no mercury, super-thin and light, long-lasting, and easy on the eyes! All that for $350 is unbelievable. Hope my review helps some others make the same great decision that I did!

ASUS VE278Q 27-Inch LED Monitor Review

ASUS VE278Q 27-Inch LED Monitor
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been shopping around for a new monitor for quite some time. I always do my research before making a purchase, and it was no different with this monitor.
Having been a past ASUS component owner who is impressed with the quality and innovation in their products, I ended up searching around for quite a while only to come back to them.
I started out with quite a list of features I was looking for in a monitor, and I wasn't sure I could find any monitor that could satisfy the list of essential features. But then I found the VE278Q.
The monitor has everything I wanted in a top of the line monitor, and it delivers in every way exceptionally well. I'll do a pros and cons list first, then round this out with more info:
PROS:
+Excellent color quality - very rich and accurate color when calibrated.
+Super fast - no ghosting.
+Even lighting - no backlight bleeding.
+Wide range of input options, and audio options.
+Very bright, instant on with no warm up time, and outstanding contrast.
+Solid range of adjustments, video modes, and display capabilities.
+Anti-glare coating removes nearly all glare.
+Price is low for such quality monitor.
+No dead pixels.
+Very good max viewing angles with minimal color distortion
+Decent internal speakers that don't waste visible space if you don't need them.
CONS:
-I can't really think of any
RATING:
VALUE:10
FEATURES: 10
SETTINGS: 9
QUALITY: 10
DESIGN: 10
OVERALL: 9.8
ADDITIONAL INFO:
**** Input options:
HDMI, Display Port, DVI, and RGB inputs - an outstanding range of input options. It also has a stereo audio input that will output sound from the internal speakers, which I might add aren't half bad for a display thats so thin. They don't have much distortion even at max volume (which is pleasingly loud), and thanks to internal Bass and Treble settings you can make them sound pretty good, though still not as good as a dedicated desktop system. I didn't expect much from them, but I was surprised. There is also a line out jack that works wonders for HDMI content. I currently have audio coming from my PS3 (along with 1080P video) in a different room through an HDMI splitter into this monitor, going out the line out on the monitor and into the line in on my PC, which then outputs the sound to my high quality desktop speakers that are connected to my PC (this lets me share audio between the two). The way it handles HDMI audio is a truly outstanding bonus, and it really made this monitor far more useful to me as a secondary display for my other HDMI entertainment devices.
**** Video options:
The display features customizable "Splendid" picture modes (5 total, with sRGB being raw, and non-configurable), sharpness adjustment, "Trace Free" which attempts to remove any additional ghosting as far as I can tell, and ASCR (ASUS Super Contrast Ratio) which is available as an option for all display modes except sRGB and "Standard", and AI Light which adjusts the back light to a balanced level with the room lighting.
Of those options I use the following settings. I set Sharpness down from 50 to 40 to give the display a nice smooth look for reading text, and it works very well, since the display is otherwise one of the sharpest I have seen. I set "Trace Free" to 0, since with a 2ms response time, ghosting is essentially nonexistent (this monitor is fast!). I leave ASCR on, since it really does do an amazing thing for gaming - the display can literally go pitch black when a dark scene is on the screen, and then within 1-2 seconds ramp up to eye burning max brightness when needed. AI Light works great, but it should be noted that it is only available when ASCR is disabled, since both cause adjustment of the LED lighting.
The monitor has no gamma adjustment, but it does feature custom color temperature settings with an R/G/B adjustment menu along with some presets (Cool/Normal/Warm). My current settings for R/G/B are R: 83, G: 76, B: 69 to make it match the calibrated output tone of my top of the line theater projector. I set color to 43 for all modes to prevent clipping, and contrast to 67 to keep color tone balance consistent across the entire grayscale, and again prevent clipping. It looks very, very nice with a bit of adjustment. Uncharacteristically warm for an LCD, in a good way. I've always been a fan of the warm, smooth, fast look of CRT's. This monitor is the first one I've seen that I could say matches and exceeds all of those characteristics.
**** More features:
Picture in picture works excellent, allowing you to move the smaller image window and change its size. You can have picture in picture from one of the other inputs that you aren't currently using as a primary for the entire screen. Audio tone adjustments allow you to make audio from the internal speakers sound pretty great for internal speakers in my opinion, and if nothing else they give you some freedom to tweak the sound coming from your HDMI line thats coming out to your speakers or headphones. The buttons on the bottom of the display are hidden well, which I like, and offer quick access to PIP, backlight brightness, speaker volume, input, and Splendid modes. Overall I love the ease of access and the audio/video features of this monitor. Its uncommon to find many of these features in a PC oriented display.
**** Design/quality:
The design of the monitor is very nice. I love that the screen is antiglare, and the entire monitor is glossy. It really makes the image look raw and undisturbed in contrast to the glossy exterior. Its great. The backlighting is extremely bright if you want it to be, instantly lit with no warm up, has a very neutral color tone (I expected the typical LED blue hue), and lights the screen very evenly without any bleeding at the edges. It also makes little to no heat, no hum, and shouldn't dim over time like traditional CCFL panels. The display controls are hidden pretty well, but are easy to access when needed. The speakers output audio from grills on the top of the monitor, and sound pretty decent. The AI Light sensor sits at the top of the monitor between the two speakers. The base is very sturdy and actually looks pretty nice. It has as much tilt range as I've found myself needing. The monitor has well placed 100mm x 100mm VESA mount holes as well, which I plan to utilize very soon.
OTHER NOTES:
+Gamma was hard to pin down to 2.2, since out of the box it sits at about 1.8 (This could be related to my default ICC profile, as there is no driver disk with the monitor).
+Yellow push was visible in skin tones out of the box, though there is a skin tone setting to adjust around this a bit (This could also be related to my monitor ICC profile).
+I loved this monitor so much that as soon as I used it for a week, I purchased a second one. If there are noticeable differences between both monitors I will make note of it here.
UPDATE - December 9th, 2010:
As noted above, I have returned to report if there were any differences between the first VE278Q and the second one that just arrived today. I'm very pleased to say that they are visibly identical in all but completely black scenes (there is a slightly different spread on the back lighting between them). The color tone is within 100K of the original at the same settings. There are again, no dead/stuck pixels or sub pixels. Call me impressed. With extended desktop between these two identical monitors, I now have an outstanding work station. Hope this review helps others! If Amazon gets some more of these in, I may get one more for my other desktop - these are too good to pass up.

It is hard to capture how beautiful this computer is in words much less video.
You have to see it in person.
I accidentally listed it on-screen as 2.26GHz, it should say 2.66GHz.
I took a stab at a video review.
I hope you enjoy.
Let me know your feedback, thanks!

Key Features
Big, Beautiful Display Combined with All-In-One Simplicity The new iMac has come a long way from the first 15-inch iMac. The all-in-one design of the first flat-panel iMac cleaned up the desktop, and put everything you need--display, processor, graphics card, hard drive, optical drive, memory, and more--inside one simple enclosure. New technology inside and out makes the new iMac a worthy addition to the all-in-one dynasty.

This 21.5-inch model features an edge-to-edge glass display that covers nearly the entire front of the enclosure. When all you see is the display, nothing gets between you and what's onscreen. Movies, TV shows, websites, photos--everything looks stunning on the new 16:9 widescreen iMac display. And the LED backlighting in the new iMac helps push more light through the pixels with remarkable brightness and efficiency. And because the LED backlight doesn't take up much space, the iMac enclosure stays thin--even with all the high-performance components inside.

The iMac display is designed to look great from almost any angle. A technology called in-plane switching (IPS) makes this possible. Whether you're sitting in front of the display or standing off to the side, you'll get a perfect picture with superb color consistency and no loss of detail.

The wider iMac display allows more room to separate the two hottest components, the CPU and the GPU. This keeps things cool inside the iMac enclosure. Apple engineers also implemented an intelligent control system that monitors temperatures and delivers just the right amount of airflow to critical components. And the three fans inside iMac have been tuned to be ultraquiet.

While you'll find a collection of ports on the back of iMac, you won't find much else. A seamless, precision-forged enclosure makes the back one continuous aluminum surface. And there's only one cord: the power cord.

Wireless Magic Mouse and Keyboard Forget the mouse as you know it. Every iMac comes with the wireless Magic Mouse: the world's first Multi-Touch mouse. Use it once and you'll wonder how you ever used anything else. There's no scroll ball, no clunky wheel, no cord, and no visible button. Instead, the Magic Mouse uses Multi-Touch technology to let you control everything with simple gestures. Give them a try and you'll find that Magic Mouse changes the way you interact with your computer. Built-in software lets you configure Magic Mouse any way you want. Its smooth, seamless design is ambidextrous, and it supports two-button clicking--without buttons.

The iMac banishes desktop clutter completely with a wireless keyboard to go with the wireless Magic Mouse. This low-profile keyboard takes up less desk space--24 percent less--than larger keyboards. There's no numeric keypad, so you can place your mouse comfortably next to the keyboard. And built-in Bluetooth means there are no cables to connect.

Built-in Wi-Fi High-speed 802.11n wireless technology is built into iMac. And with Time Capsule or the AirPort Express Base Station, every computer in every room can wirelessly connect to iMac, the Internet, and each other. Over this network, everyone can print, surf the web, and play music on iTunes through your home stereo--wirelessly.

iSight Webcam Hidden behind the glass display at the top of iMac is an iSight camera. Use it with iChat, and you can be anywhere without actually being there. Video chat with up to three of your friends, share a video with a colleague, or present to a client. Use iSight with Photo Booth for fun photo effects. And there's no need to waste valuable primping time installing software or configuring the camera.

Pre-Loaded with Mac OS X Snow Leopard and iLife '09Every Mac comes with Mac OS X Snow Leopard, the world's most advanced operating system, and iLife, Apple's innovative suite of applications for managing photos, making movies and creating and learning to play music. Snow Leopard builds on a decade of OS X innovation and success with hundreds of refinements, new core technologies and out of the box support for Microsoft Exchange. iLife features iPhoto, to easily organize and manage photos; iMovie with powerful easy-to-use new features such as Precision Editor, video stabilization and advanced drag and drop; and GarageBand which introduces a whole new way to help you learn to play piano and guitar.
Installed software

Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard (includes Time Machine, Quick Look, Spaces, Spotlight, Dashboard, Mail, iChat, Safari, Address Book, QuickTime, iCal, DVD Player, Photo Booth, Front Row, Xcode Developer Tools)
iLife '09 (includes iPhoto, iMovie, GarageBand, iWeb, iDVD)

Environmentally Friendly DesignBecause Apple designs both hardware and software, we can reduce our environmental footprint in ways others can't. For starters, a highly efficient power supply reduces the amount of power wasted when bringing electricity from the wall to your Mac. Unlike a lot of PCs, a Mac uses energy-efficient hardware components that work hand in hand with the operating system to conserve power--even between keystrokes.
A Mac also doesn't contain a lot of toxic materials. All Mac displays are mercury and arsenic free, and the internal components are free of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and brominated flame retardants (BFRs).

Efficient Power Supply The iMac includes a highly efficient power supply that reduces the amount of power wasted when bringing electricity from the wall to your computer. Lower power consumption reduces energy bills and lessens the environmental impact of greenhouse gas emissions from power plants.

Advanced Power Management Unlike a lot of Windows-based PC systems, iMac uses energy-efficient hardware components that work hand in hand with the operating system to conserve power. Mac OS X spins down hard drives and activates sleep mode on already energy-efficient LED-backlit displays. And it balances tasks across both central processors and graphics processors. Mac OS X never misses a power-saving opportunity, no matter how small. It even regulates the processor between keystrokes, reducing power between the letters you type. That's just one of many ways Apple manages small amounts of power that add up to big savings.

ENERGY STAR Qualification The iMac meets the stringent low power requirements set by the EPA, making it ENERGY STAR qualified. ENERGY STAR 5.0 sets significantly higher efficiency limits for power supplies and aggressive limits for the computer's typical annual power consumption.

Dell UltraSharp U2711 27-inch Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor - Max Resolution 2560 x 1440 (WQHD) Review

Dell UltraSharp U2711 27-inch Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor - Max Resolution 2560 x 1440 (WQHD)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had this monitor for a month now and I've to say that it's phenomenal. I was using the Dell 2405FPW for 5 years until the U2711 was released, almost matching the resolution of the 30-inch (2560 by 1600), at almost half the price. It's a bargain.
The resolution is outstanding at 2560 by 1440. Yes, there's 160 pixels missing from the bottom compared to a typical 30-inch, but coming up from 1920 by 1200 it doesn't really matter.
The colours are vibrant, which is great. The text is a bit smaller, of a size you typically see on 13-inch laptops. It took me a while to get used to the smaller font size.
This set is still non-glossy. But apparently, Dell has applied some anti-glare coating. I've read on forums that some customers disliked it but I've no problem with it - I didn't even detect it was there.
Compared to a 24-inch (1920 by 1200px), the U2711 isn't much taller, it's much wider. I can fit two webpages, 1024px each, and still be able to see icons on the desktop.
Backlight bleeding is barely noticeable. It means if your widescreen movies still show the letterbox black bars, you'll be less distracted.
The U2711 also works well with my PS3 via HDMI. I'm not sure of the audio capabilities but I use a 2.1 speaker plugged in with a 3.5mm jack. One thing to note is you'll have to set the audio settings on your PS3 to output 2.1 sound to make sure they output all the sound, dialogue, effects, surround, etc.
Gaming on the PS3 is very enjoyable. The games are upscaled and there's a notch of graininess. Not really an issue unless you're sitting really close. Everything looks snappy and I don't notice any lag but I'm don't really play FPS games.
Note that this monitor would require a decent graphics card with dual-DVI output. If you want to game at the maximum resolution, then you need a powerful card.
This is a huge physical monitor. My table is really small and it took up almost half of it. But not regrets.
I managed to get this LCD at US$690 equivalent in Asia, Singapore. It's well worth it. This set is going to last me for a long time, until the slimmer LED version comes out in who-knows-which year.
I would recommend this monitor to graphic designers, photographers or anyone who multi-task a lot.
- For Mac Users -
I'm using this on a Mac Pro and have powered it on two graphic card, not both at the same time. It's plug and play, no drivers required.
On the ATI Radeon X1900XT, you won't be able to see the dual boot screen if you hold Alt after the startup (that's if you're using Boot Camp). On the ATI Radeon 4870, it works just flawlessly.
- For technical reviews, just visit the links in my comment section. I found and used them while researching on the U2711.

ASUS VE276Q 27-Inch Wide (16:9) 2ms Response Time Display Port LCD Monitor - Black Review

ASUS VE276Q 27-Inch Wide (16:9) 2ms Response Time Display Port LCD Monitor - Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The monitor is spectacular and very much exceeded my expectations. I went for this monitor as I was hoping that they fixed some of the issues with their highly reviewed older series from 23" on up. ASUS hit this one out of the park. The design is a major improvement over the older 27" with the wide bezels and flowery design on the speaker grill at the base of the monitor frame. ASUS has removed 1" or so off the bezel width, which is nice for dual/eyefinity/matrox/surround setups. The new one has image quality much higher than other TN models that I have owned in the past. It is very well calibrated out of the box, but a little too bright for my tastes, needed to turn down the brightness settings. The speakers are nothing to brag about, but they are there hidden away and work just fine. The colors are completely consistent throughout the monitor as well. The monitor can be viewed at all angles and it seems the color or image stays consistent, even while looking at it from off to the side 70+degrees from being centered.
I would highly recommend this monitor to those on a budget who want a fast TN model without the lag/input delay or cost of an IPS monitor. I have returned monitors in the past for having bad colors / blurriness / viewing angles, but this one is definitely at the top of my list for TN panels in the larger 24"+ size range. I received it with 0 dead pixels, but I went through Amazon just in case as they are top notch at customer service.
Pros:
+ Blacklight Bleed is non-existent
+ Image Quality very high
+ Easy to read Text
+ Incredible viewing angles
+ Quality set features/presets
+ Design with thin bezels
+ Physical Buttons, no touchscreen buttons
+ 27" of screen
+ Speakers are not visible
Cons:
- Too bright at default settings
- Premium price over last years model
- Not IPS image quality

Really quik I just wanted to come on and review this product. Although I've only had it plugged in for a couple hours, iI think I'm 100% satisfied.
No dead pixels, IT's ULTRA THIN!!! It feels like I could hold it in my lap it is so thin and light.
The AC adapter sits outside of the monitor, which I think is its only downfall. I don't particularly like the look of cords, and especially big black boxes. There is no audio jack, or at least I haven't found it.
Set up was easy, it runs cool, I think I've gotten over the need to get a 30" apple cinema display with this monitor. Beautiful!!!
This is my 6th HP minotor. I'm a huge "Bright View" fan. I like my images on the brighter side. The contrasts look excellent. Of course if you aren't a bright monitor fan then you can turn it down. It's good to have the option though. Smooth rendering of text...I plan to buy a second one soon and it's nice to know I can turn these into tv's when I've upgraded my system some day to even bigger monitors as it has an HDMI port.
