First of all, let me say that I have a bias for Lenovo when it comes to business class laptops. They are built to take the rigors of traveling and have features that are really meant for business users.
Pros:
> Small and Light. While I wish it could be lighter, for the size and specs this is about right.
> 1440 x 900 resolution. Which is a good resolution whether typing up documents or looking at movies. While 1080P would be nice, might be too high for such a small screen.
> Great battery life. Typically get 5+ hours off of this doing tasks such as word processing, spreadsheets, email and browsing. I expected better because of the Nvidia Optimus hybrid video processing, but its still pretty good. You can enhance battery life using a battery slice that adds to the batter, but unfortunately, also to the weight. I opted not to do that.
> Great performance. I should say though, that I upgraded to 8GB of RAM (maximum). The 2GB is too low for this laptop, and you should consider upgrading to 4GB at least; the 2GB stick is in one slot, so the other is free for the other 2GB. Once the memory is upgraded, the performance is great. I run virtual machines, and the performance of the virtual machines are great on this laptop, you wouldn't think that it was a VM. Also, with the AES extensions on the CPU, the encryption performance is great if you use TrueCrypt to encrypt volumes.
> Does not automatically install anti-virus or MS Office. Some laptops come with these apps pre-installed, so when you first start up, the apps are ready to run. Lenovo instead chose to have the installation files there and give you to option to install it; great if you want to run your own anti-virus or Open Office.
> Loads of ports. Four USB, one firewire, one eSATA, one video port, one SD/MMC card reader, VGA output and Express card, gives a lot of expansion possibilities. Plus Lenovo has docking stations for this laptop if you don't like plugging these in.
Cons:
> the video screen seems a bit grainy when viewing video. It's not a problem with documents and such, but it would have been nice to have a nice screen to watch a movie when you don't want to work.
> 2GB of memory is too low. This laptop comes with some bloatware... um, I mean, feature Lenovo apps, that take up memory. The thing is, I like the apps so I have not uninstalled it, but opted to upgrade the memory instead. Either way, you would want to upgrade the memory to at least 4GB.
> Not seeing the power savings or added video boost from the NVidia Optimus. I'm pretty sure there is some switching going on in the background, but the benefits are not so clear.
> No finger-print scanner. This is not so big a deal, but I think that every business laptop should have a finger-print scanner.
> Single jack for headphone and mic. While some might find it not big a deal, most headphone/mic sets have too jacks - one for mic and one for speaker. It would have been nice for Lenovo to include a cable that splits it. I'm having problems finding a cable or a headset like that in my home country - Trinidad and Tobago. With all that, I do not hesitate to recommend this laptop for business users. I stress business users, because if you are a gamer, you would be disappointed.
