(More customer reviews)Bottom-Line: I love this display! Sure it took a little getting used, and I wish it had a USB hub, but the ViewSonic "VP930b 19" LCD" is an outstanding value.
I have always been a huge fan of ViewSonic monitors. My love affair with ViewSonic dates back to when I bought my very first ViewSonic, the 17G way back in 1993. To this day, the monitor is still going strong; I have noticed no picture fade or outward jittering or flickering from the screen, and it is on 24/7, even if it now relegated to the server room.
My current flat screen LCD monitor a Hansol Multitech 19 inch LCD has served me well, but I longed for another ViewSonic, so around the middle of last year I started doing research on the differing brands available. I at first found the ViewSonic model I wanted, the Professional Series "VP930b 19" LCD", and compared all other models to it; none stood up and so right after Christmas I purchased the ViewSonic "VP930b 19" LCD."
The Product
The "VP930b 19" LCD" display from ViewSonic is one of the newer breeds of thin-bezel LCD's. The "VP930b 19" LCD" features ViewSonic's progressive ThinEdge design with all-inclusive height, pivot, tilt and swivel adjustments. These features are coupled with ViewSonic's XtremeView wide viewing angles and ClearMotiv 8ms broadcast-quality video response technology ensuring powerful visual performance with pinpoint sharpness, rich vibrant colors, and unrivaled brightness and clarity.
The "VP930b" is ideal for graphic production, medical and financial professionals with its ultra-slim bezel design that enables ergonomic adjustments, multiple-display setups (with two analog and one digital inputs), and digital multiplatform connectivity.
Installation
It would appear that the age of the big, bulky power supply is over, as least as it relates to LCD displays. In other words the power supply is built into the "VP930b," which makes finding a place to plug the unit in a snap. I swapped out the "VP930b" without turning off the computer because I was able to use the same power cord and video cable. Once the display was connected to power and computer, I turned it on at which time it auto-adjusted. It's not really necessary to install the first disc, which contains the Users Guide and driver set, but if you want to take advantage of the really cool pivot feature, you must install the Perfect Suite software, which automatically adjusts the screen from horizontal to vertical and visa-a-versa when you pivot the screen. With Perfect Suite you can also gain access to color, contrast, brightness and other controls, as well as configure and save pre-sets for you individual tastes.
Video inputs and power connections are on the bottom of the display, while the front panel controls are located on the front bottom of the display. The buttons can be a bit confusing at first. The button labeled (1) will gain you access to the Main Menu wherein all manner of monitors controls can be manipulated. The Up and Down button can then be used to move around the menu sub-system, and the button labeled (2) can be used to select menu items while within the menu system. The number (2) button cam also be used to switch between video inputs; e.g. D-sub-1 (analog display 1), D-sub-2, or DVI. The power switch is on the far right, with small LED positioned between the power switch and the number (2) button.
Use
This monitor is bright! Other reviews have commented on the brightness of this display and their words of warning were not misplaced. I like my displays bright, but I have to admit that the VP930b took a lilt getting used to. White is really bright, and until my eyes got used to it, almost blindingly so. Eventually I did tone down the brightness a little in order to work more comfortably.
The optimum resolution for the VP930b is 1280x1024 @60Hz with 32bit color. If you do not set the display to the resolution, the VP930b will remind you, via a popup screen, that you really should change resolutions; really it for your own good. At this resolution the VP930b displays test and graphics shockingly clear and crisp. Be forwarded, if there is flaw in an image it will show up on the screen. After some adjustments for text size, I can report that I very satisfied using the VP930b at 1280x1024.
One of the features I enjoy the most is the pivot functionality of the VP930b. The display will pivot a full 90 degrees from horizontal to vertical. When I pivot the screen it momentarily goes black and then snaps back on with the new orientation. With the display pivoted vertically, I can fit a full page of text on the screen, which is the point; no more scrolling! When I am done editing a document, I simply pivot the screen back to horizontal.
The VP930b also swivels on it base about 90 degrees, and the display will tilt no matter the orientation. Speaking of the base, it is large because of the supporting feet. But again the display swivels sp placing in on my desktop was problem free.
Conclusion
I love this display! Sure it took a little getting used, and I wish it had a USB hub, but the ViewSonic "VP930b 19" LCD" is an outstanding value.
