As others have noted this is a quality board. As a several time Asus user, I expect that, but this board is a step above. Chipset heat sink (with fan you can apply if you are setting it up the right way), connectors (SATA, etc) that are in the right spaces for case usage, etc. A few quibbles 1) as I note there is no floppy cable included (even though the board has a floppy connection), 2) (not sure this is Asus' fault, but...) why is there so little space between the PCI connectors for these double slot vid cards? I've got a EVGA 285 that is hogging two slots but is only connected to one. If I had it set up in SLI, I'd only have *1* PCI slot left over. I guess the price you pay for the cool heat sinks around the board.
Still very satisfied with the purchase.
Update 9/9 - wanted to add that I got everything fully functional and for once even the powering down stuff works as it should. A couple of other nits - 1)it is either RAID or straight SATA. This is noted in the forum boards and what not, but is a bit of a pain; and 2) the e-SATA isn't hot plug.
Still very satisfied with the purchase. Runs well you can tweak the heck out of it and it has all the right connections.

PROs:
- Solid board. Very heavy compared to most other mobo's I've worked with (heavy being a good thing, due to the heatsink material,which you want in a mobo that will be running an i7)
Easy install
Easy setup.
I ordered one for a client and it operates fine. It was built for a business environment, so it is built as a desktop PC, NOT a gaming rig.
-cables - EVGA includes like 5 or 6 Sata cables, about 4 molex-to-sata adapters.
-adapters - evga includes the video connectors for multiple video card operation.
- onboard reset and cmos reset buttons
- 2 digit display on mobo, as a troubleshooting tool
- Warranty - register within 30 days and you will get the lifetime warranty on this mobo.
Otherwise it is only 2 years.
- Advanced RMA options:
NOTE: When you register this mobo at EVGA, you get ONE OPPORTUNITY to upgrade to an "Advanced RMA" program.
If you pass on it during registration, you will NOT get a second chance to order the advanced RMA option.
"quote"
......During the registration process, you will be asked if you want to participate in the EAR program. After the registration process is complete, customers will no longer be able to participate in the EAR program.....

-Advanced RMA program:
"Quote"
The EVGA Advanced RMA (EAR) Program is a program to protect yourself and your product in the case of product failure. If something was to go wrong with your EVGA product the standard RMA process will be accelerated by prepaying for your shipping options with one of the plans available. This will cut down the amount of time your system will be down and save you money on shipping. Customers can choose to not participate in this program and if anything does go wrong in the future they can still apply for a standard RMA. Cross-Shipment on standard RMAs are not available and customers will be required to pay for shipping the product(s) back to EVGA. "Unquote"The basic, free, RMA service requires customer to pay S&H, then EVGA will return ship it via standard ground. There is NO CROSS-SHIPPING.
Plan Ship In Ship Out Cross Ship Price
Standard RMA Customer Pays Free Ground No Free
Standard EAR Customer Pays Ground Yes $10.99
Premium EVGA Prepaid Ground Yes $14.99

Saturday Priority EVGA Prepaid Saturday Delivery Yes $39.99

If you think you'll need expedited service for any possible RMA, then even the most expensive option, $39.99, is not bad.
CONS:
- Requires an EPS 12volt (8-pin) power adapter, in addition to the standard 24-pin ATX.
If you plan to use an EXISTING POWER SUPPLY, make sure it has an EPS power connector.
The EPS 8-pin looks "similar" to the PCI-e 8-pin but is KEYED DIFFERENTLY.
You can buy a "Molex-to-EPS12" adapter for about $3 to $5 bucks.
NOTE: if you will be gaming with this mobo, then plan on buying a new power supply.
EVGA did NOT include the molex-to-EPS adapter, because it seems they don't want you to use a non-EPS power supply.
So if your power supply is a couple/few years old, plan on buying a new one.

I recently upgraded to a new system, and the G. Skill Trident+ has played a large hand in getting me top-notch gaming performance. Together with a Core i7 980X Extreme and two nVidia GeForce 480GTX cards, there's nothing we can't play, no setting we can't max out. In Windows 7 Professional, the G.Skill scores a 7.9 on the Windows Experience Index (WEI), and when using 3DMark06 my system gets close to 30,000 benchmarks.
This set of triple-channel RAM comes with a nice extra: an easy-to-mount fan to keep the RAM cool. You should be aware that the mount isn't sturdy--rather, the arms of the fan are designed to be hand-bent to the appropriate width. They don't click into place so much as they cling to either end of your memory slots and perch spiderlike over the top.
The fans are small, but they aren't particularly noisy: with the case shut and the system fans running I could barely hear the additional noise. Mine don't ramp speeds up and down with performance, they just run constantly the whole time the machine is on. To be honest, you may not need them unless you start experiencing technical problems: if you don't have the headroom in your case to stuff this extra in you might consider sparing yourself the trouble.
If you're looking for a powerful upgrade, the Trident+ Turbulence kit is an excellent choice. The fan is a nice extra, but may not be necessary. Either way, I've been more than satisfied with the performance of this triple-channel kit.

First off, i just want to say i have no idea what the other people are talking about in there reviews. I have no trouble putting in 16GB on memory and installing my air cooler. Second, this board has the best chip set cooling design ive ever seen. Im running a Phenom II x6 1090t CPU, 2x XFX Radeon 5870's 1GB DDR5, a cool master RR-B10-212P-G1Hyper 212 plus air cooler,Creative Audigy 2 ZS sound card and everything fits perfectly. This board has won over 30 awards and is rated the best and most advanced mother board on the market. If your building a gaming PC, this is hands down the board you want. I could go on and on about the ggreatness of this board but go to the Asus web site to read about it. A must buy for the serious gamer.

I purchased this memory to use with an Intel i7 950 processor on an Intel DX58SO motherboard.
The memory is advertised at the Corsair website as Intel i7 compatible, so far, so good for me. After installing it, the motherboard BIOS showed my 16GB installed and Windows 7 is also working fine.
This is a kit that comes with 4 DDR3 memories and a Corsair Dominator fan.
Each memory is packaged in its own individual anti-static hard box, so you can keep them in there if you don't need or don't want all modules at one time.
Be aware that the the DX58SO motherboard has the memory "above" the processor (above in case refers to the top of the mid-tower I installed it in). So if you are thinking about buying an alternate cooling system for your processor (like the Cooler Master V8), you may not be able to install the memory fan kit properly.

This set of Corsair DDR3 memory modules is the best in the market, but it didn't work great with my Asus Rampage Extreme adn have requisted a replacement form Amazon.com, which they ship out very fast like the next business day delevery; however, these memory modules would give a blue screen. The first set would give a blue screen as well, but it would keep dump the physical memory. The second set that gave me a blue screen, would not dump the physical memory, but would just keep the blue screen on my computer and would not be able to install Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit or even 32 bit. So, I have requested Corsair for a RMA support, but having yeat recieved a respons. I will recontact them and see what would happen, I love Amazon.com, but with product I have had no luck. I have the OCZ Technologies Fatal1ty DDR3 memory modules, which aren't bad but they are slower than these Corsair DDR3 memory modules. I would purchase these from some where else.

I have been using this board for a week now. The board is using dual Xeon 5120 processors that have been overclocked to 2.33Ghz from 1.86Ghz using the BSEL mod (a simple piece of nonconductive tape placed over one of the chip pins).
Please note that you will not get the full memory bandwidth available on this board until you fill the board with at least four sticks of FB-DIMM's.
The board, using the Xeon 5120's at their normal operating speed, has a combined processing power greater than that of a 3.4Ghz Xeon Irwindale dual cpu motherboard. I tested this using Sisoft Sandra 2007.
I was able to mount the board into an Aluminus ATX form factor case with no modifications.

This CPU is extraordinarily fast and runs fabulously, but the active heatsink that it is packaged with is terrible. It would not screw down properly onto the motherboard mounting apparatus resulting in poor heat conductivity. ASUS Crosshair IV Formula - AM3 - AMD 890FX - DDR3 - Republic of Gamers - ATX Motherboard Review

ASUS Crosshair IV Formula - AM3 - AMD 890FX - DDR3 - Republic of Gamers - ATX Motherboard
Average Reviews:

Asus has hit a homerun with this mobo! Using the Asus Crosshair IV Formula and my new AMD 1055t Athlon II x6 processor, I was able to easily OC the stock 2.8 Ghz proccy to 3.76 Ghz with almost no effort whatsoever. I had originally intended to go with the AMD 1090t proccy but couldn't see paying almost $100 extra (at that time). I realize now the Black Edition processors are a little better with faster through put but I'm still very happy.
My first impression of the packaging was simply "WOW". Normally you expect to get a mobo in a box that's been clear-tape sealed with a disk an instruction booklet and a CD and perhaps some cables/ribbons. This package is like no other mobo you'll ever buy. An extremely detailed booklet with plenty of info on anything and everything about the board and it's features as well as Bios tips. Cables, tie straps, and an amazing rear IO plate that put my faith back into premium quality mobos. Also included is an ROG (Republic Of Gamers) badge sticker as well as a pretty large side case sticker that goes perfectly with my Red and Silver Backtrack 4 logo ;). Assembly of the board is standard except for the RAM slots which feature one end clip on each slot. Yep, no more fumbling around underneath wires to have to pop out your RAM sticks with two latches, this feature alone is enough for me to be happy but it doesn't stop there. Asus has gone out of their way to deliver not only performance but a great assembled package that shows the pride of the ROG community. Some (including one of my closest friends) balked at the color scheme until he got a longer look at it. Admittedly, red wouldn't have been my first choice either since I like blue and green better but it quickly grows on you aesthetically. Now, many have complained about the heat of the Northbridge which in some cases featured incorrect standoff heights. For a new and "featured" product it was sad to see such a blatant mistake which also proved a lack of QC/QA on Asus' part before shipping (IMO) on one of their premiere and premium prodcuts. However, with that said, I was one of the fortunate ones who had no problems with the heat of the NB.
Assembly was typical like any other motherboard until it came time to start it up. I have to admit this was the first time ever I had no problems running it correctly the first time with absolutely no flaws. Loaded in Windows Ultimate 7 64 bit and away it went.
For this build I opted for all top of the line products including: Corsair H70 proc cooler, 8Gb G.Skill Flare RAM, OCZ 850w GamerXStream PSU, Diamond ATI 1Gb DDR5 5870 GPU, Antec BluRay BD ROM, LG DVD/CD reader/burner, NZXT Sentry 2 LE Fan Controller, Lian Li 4 port mini-duckbill light switches, Cooler Master Sickle Blade Fans (6), Antec 1200 case, Sabrent 51 in 1 card reader, WD RE3 Enterprise Edition 1Tb drives (2), Corsair C300 64 Gb SSD, Bulgin LED Power Switch, Flatron 24" HDMI monitor,Logitech G19 Keyboard and last but not lease the Logitech G5 gaming mouse. And all fed through a Logitech 540 5.1 sound system.
My intention was to future proof this build as much as possible within a set budget and I've easily accomplished that with a few dollars leftover. The lighted switches, buttons on the motherboard are flat out sexy too. I've also got to admit the AMD 890 chipset totally rocks! My previous system was an Asus A8N32-SLI Premium mobo with an AMD Opteron 170 which is still a good build but nothing compared to the newest screamer! If you're looking for performance, capability, consistency and overclocking capabilities I would have to put this at position #1 with a bullet!
I had originally intended to use the Noctua NHD14 cooler which is mammoth but fits my case, until that is, I attempted to put it in with the performance RAM from G.Skill. If you're intending to use the Noctua cooler you can only use standard side cover heat spreaders on your RAM. Forget about the add-on top heat spreader such as the G.Skill Flare or Corsair Dominators, it just won't fit. The bottom 3-5 fins of the NHD14 hit the top of the RAM and will not seat anywhere near the top of your processor as it should. Hence the Corsair H70 which works like a charm and provides excellent cooling.

ASUS G73JW-XT1 17.3" w/ 8GB RAM, BluRay & 2 YR War Review

ASUS G73JW-XT1 17.3 w/ 8GB RAM, BluRay and 2 YR War
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
4.5 Star Rating
In my humble opinion, this is a fine piece of equipment (ASUS, Model: G73JW-XT1).
Out of the box, it has a Windows Experience Index rating of 5.9, and the breakdown goes as follows:
* Processor: 7.1
* Memory: 7.4
* Graphics: 7.1
* Gaming graphics: 7.1
* Primary hard disk: 5.9
I'll try to concisely review some of the key elements that may not be apparent (in no particular order):
Equipment:
It has a 7200rpm 500gb Seagate hard drive. Some of the other G73J laptops have 2 hard drives. This one comes with only one, so it has an empty hard drive bay to which I plan to add a solid state drive.
Performance:
I removed many of the apps ASUS threw on it, and reduced the time it takes it to go from off to fully booted and ready, from about 80 seconds down to 60-65 seconds. I installed Office 2007 and it takes about 1 second to launch any app in the suite...even while multiple apps are open. It quickly connects to my home network (802.11n) which has an Apple Airport Extreme router connected via Ethernet to the wireless router that comes with AT&T U-Verse. I have 3 Airport Express' being used as signal extenders. I experience blazing fast web browsing and download rates on this laptop. Performance-wise it is very fast and solid.
Feel:
It is predominately rubber coated, so the shell feels very comfortable and it doesn't leave prints. Feels very solid and sturdy so no concerns there.
Size:
Don't kid yourself on this one, it is VERY large and heavy. Finding a bag/backpack that will contain this beast can be tricky. Don't assume that it will fit into a bag just because it claims to fit 17.3" laptops. I found the laptop bag selector tool at ebags.com to be quite useful. I'm not necessarily for or against purchasing there, but at least use their tool to find bags that will work. Going to local retail stores (i.e. Best Buy, Staples, MicroCenter, Office Depot, etc.) turned out to be a waste of time for me. This is what I ended up with: Targus XL Backpack Designed for 17 Inch Notebooks TXL617 (Black with Blue Accents)
Battery life:
Expect to get about 2 hours on a full charge.
Usability:
The trackpad is very large and offers multi-touch functionality as well as vertical and horizontal scrolling on the right and bottom edge, respectively. Unfortunately they did not provide tactile partitions along the scrolling areas, so I often have to look down to find the right spots. I'll soon be avoiding this altogether via a bluetooth mouse with a scroll-wheel.

Capability:
I found the Blu-Ray movie playing capability to be awful (0.5 star demerit). It would not play the first movie I put in. The play of the second one was very concerning to say the least. It took about 6 mins after insertion to begin playing the first preview. It proceeded to go through lengthy load sequences after each preview. It then stalled for another 4-5mins on the title screen of the feature movie and then didn't respond for another 3mins after selecting play. Both movies played perfectly on my PS3.Bottom line:
This is a stellar, well-designed laptop that leaves little to be desired. It is lightning fast and displays an amazing picture. Not sure if the issues related to Blu-Ray movie play are software related (CyberLink PowerDVD comes pre-loaded), but it is terrible, and quite frankly an unacceptable feature function on a laptop of this caliber. That's my biggest issue, and since I didn't get it for that purpose, I'm not terribly disappointed and it doesn't affect my satisfaction level much at all. I would easily recommend it to a friend with interests similar to mine. If you have any questions...post a comment! I will certainly try to be of assistance.

This is a pretty good processor. However, I really cannot recommend this processor. The only reason to get this is for the unlocked multiplier. You may really want this if and only if you really need that one PCIe slot for something other than a discrete graphics card. At this price point (~$200), the 750/760 is a much better value.

The memory works great with my motherboard that has only three memory slots. It cost more than I would like. The heatsink is a little taller than standard so be mindful if you have a tight space. One last thing, the heatsink is the only surface available to use as a lever on which to apply force when inserting. I was concerned this may damage the chips. All in all no errors and very stable.
