This motherboard's build quality grabs your attention the moment you unpack it, when you carry it you feel it's rigid build and strong chassis. I tried to bend it, not a chance!
I love the 24 GBs of RAM that it can handle and the fact it is a 3-WAY SLI ready!
Comes with 10 SATA ports, 4 of them are RAID capable, what can you ask more for internal storage? Just make sureyou have a powerful PSU and stuff your case with HDs the way you want.
One more thing, two SATA calbes come with 90 degrees bend incase you had something in your case that is very close to the SATA ports! what can I say, SMART!
A very cool option, they have a massive heat sink that covers the North and South Bridges, then heat pipes goes out from the North Bridge, around the LGA 1366 socket to cover the voltage regulators!
GIGABYTE didn't stop there; they have included a passive huge heat sink with heat-pipes that attaches to the North Bridge to transfer heat to from the Bridge to the passive heat sink, then the heat sink fins open at the back of your case to radiate heat. They could have thought of including a tiny fan inside it but it is still great.
Guess what, they didn't even settle with this! The heat sink that is already attached to the North Bridge is ready for your LCS! just attach the LCS pipes and you're done!
There is an on-board two hex-digits that tells you the status of the board when you switch on the PC! if it reads (FF) then everything is OK, if there was a problem (your RAM or graphics card is not mounted well) it will display a different number depending on the fault. No more guessing what the heck the loud noisy beeps are indicating anymore!
There is also a Clear CMOS button next to the USB ports, so if you mess up while overclocking your board you don't need to open it to clear CMOS, just press it and fire away!
Also available on the board some LED indicator on the over-clocking and over-voltage status that tells you whether you are reaching the critical zone or not! Those LED are next to the RAM modules so they are visible if you have a see-through case.
I really can't think of something else this motherboard is missing.
From 10 SATA ports to huge heat sink solution, 24 GB RAM capacity and 3-way SLI, 8 USB, even it has two PS/2 ports and FDD port along with IDE.
The only two things I personally wish were true are:
1- A small fan in the passive North Bridge heat sink
2- The board could have been a bit bigger, everything seems to be tight next to each other but at least nothing is interfering with anything. They should have considered that people buying a > $300 motherboards would already have a full tower case. It just looks small for this price tag.
In summary: this board has everything you think of, no old technology is too old and no new technology is far of reach...
If you got the money to spend, don't look anywhere else.

(More customer reviews)Just finished building this out with an i7 920, and am really pleased so far. It's going to be a monster gaming machine, and runs Ubuntu (64 bit) with no issues. On-board RAID card is nice, though you'll want to ditch the stock CPU cooler if you plan on doing any overclocking.
A few things to be aware of:
- There are some issues with component layout. Right under that big heat sink near the chip is where they decided to place both CPU fan and board power sockets. It's a really bad place, as it's hard to get to and places cables near a component known to get hot.
- The audio plug is between the two PCIe slots, which will be a cable routing challenge if you're doing SLI with monster video cards.
- Not a big fan of how they did the 9 SATA ports (10 really, if you count the eSata port on the backplane). Sata 0-5 are run off the Intel southbridge, and SATA 6-7 and 8-9 are run off separate chipsests. SATA 7 is a port in the middle of the board, designed to drive a port on the front of the case. Anyway, you can only RAID each of the chipsets, meaning any big array you build will need to run off 0-5. There are also pauses during start for each chipset, which is annoying.
- A minor annoyance, but this board takes a while to POST (~20s).
Some things I really like:
- There are power, reset, and CMOS reset switches on the board, so you don't need to make case hookups while you debug stuff.
- There a 2-digit LED on the board, which shows error codes for anything wrong during POST, then turns into a CPU temperature monitor.
- Overclocker's dream. Control over all multipliers voltages needed to take your chip well past 4GHz.

I was tired of being a "guinea pig" for some company's effort of selling a board without doing what seemed to be proper testing, then waiting for a new Bios to fix the problems that everyone would be having. Being that this was my first i7 build along with using newer hardware that I had no experience with (OCZ Revo 120 Gb Pci SSD),all went together very easily. Not one hiccup. After reading a little about Overclocking the i7 ,this board took me there with very little effort, tested and stable. I doubt if there are any "better" motherboards out there and from what I read EVGA has THE BEST customer service. Great layout,good OC'er,great customer service,and Lifetime Warranty on this board, along with Amazon's fast shipping, you can't go wrong. I will buy EVGA again you can count on that!

This MOBO is x16/x8 in 2-way SLI capable, but not x16/x16 in 2 or 3-way SLI.
But, for someone like me who is content with running one high-performance card...it's great!
I'm running a XFX HD5850, and a SATA III SSD harddrive, this thing is a Beast!!!

If you think you'll need expedited service for any possible RMA, then even the most expensive option, $39.99, is not bad.
CONS:
- Requires an EPS 12volt (8-pin) power adapter, in addition to the standard 24-pin ATX.
If you plan to use an EXISTING POWER SUPPLY, make sure it has an EPS power connector.
The EPS 8-pin looks "similar" to the PCI-e 8-pin but is KEYED DIFFERENTLY.

at first, not too impressed by the mobo's finishing quality, some parts soldered slantly,
board feels thin, in comparing other Asus mobo,
but after the build, and installed Windows 7, it performs rock solid and reliable,
called EVGA's customer service to ask some questions, I could get hold of a person in reasonably
short time, they are very courteous and helpful.
So my 1st impression with EVGA is good, I would not hesitate to buy their other product from now on.

This CPU is extraordinarily fast and runs fabulously, but the active heatsink that it is packaged with is terrible. It would not screw down properly onto the motherboard mounting apparatus resulting in poor heat conductivity. As a result I was forced to purchase a supermicro product (SNK-P0020A4), which worked fabulously.

After spending a lot of hours looking for the best MOBO for my new system the P6T7 was my pick for many reasons... Some of them are:
1. Looks. It has a very attractive layout.
2. Stability. What's the use to spend in a ultra-super-mega MOBO if you're gonna have at least 2 BSOD a day?!?... With the P6T7 you can be relax.
3. Features. I love that it have a third USB internal connector and have SAS support. SSDs are still expensive and don't have great capacity but using a SAS 15k RPM HDD you can have a bit more performance than with the 10k RPM HDD. The software included in the cd is great too.
The only con is that you need to upgrade the bios to the latest version if you pretend to use the new Intel 980x cpu.
Now... For the overclocking part... I was pretty easy, the only thing I did was increase the multipliers to 31 and the Vcore to 1.34 and thats it... Regarding the memory I'm using the Corsair Dominator 1600mhz (not a GT model) and the only thing I did was to set the XMP profile and that's all... Using programs like Everest you can do a stability test on your system and for me it was rock solid stable...
If you are looking for a watercooling solution for the MOBO I suggest the Koolance waterblock.
BTW... Don't be confused by the CEB form factor.. It fits perfectly in my Coolermaster Cosmos 1000...

(More customer reviews)Well I was looking for a good X58 motherboard for my Core i7 950 cpu and decided to go with this one. It's got a great layout, especially the Sata ports, usb 3.0, Sata 6gb, 6 RAM slots, Dual Lan. Error codes and LEDs also help a great deal. It's very easy to update the BIOS with @Bios utility. This motherboard utilizes a 24-pin and 8-pin power supply. So be sure your PSU has the right connectors. No onboard video, so you'll need a video card. Be sure to put your RAM, and sata cables in before you do anything else. Never know what might be blocked, but all in all this layout is great and I didn't really have those problems. This motherboard also has an onboard Power and Reset switch for open case testing of components. I love that feature! I actually had to use the buttons when I had issues with my heatsink being loose and my RAM in the wrong slots. lol. If your PC shuts down shortly after booting and you get an error message saying "Recovering lost DRAM something or other, try switching the ram to different slots. And if you're going to use the stock heatsink that comes with the core i7, be sure its on tight and correctly! I could have gone with a cheaper board, but I'm glad I settled for this one. It's feature rich and I am very satisfied with it. Also, the XMP profile to auto set RAM to the correct timings and speed worked fine for me!

(More customer reviews)Like the last reviewer, I like building my own system. That way, I get what I believe is important and exactly the way I want it. I bought this P6X58D because it features USB 3.0 and SATA 6 GB/s. Do I really need that right now? No, but those will be the new standard and I want a board that doesn't go obsolete in six months.
My build consist of the following:
Motherboard - P6X68D Premium
Memory - Corsair Dominator 6 GB 3 x 2 GB PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3
Process Cooler - Cooling Master V8 (from my last computer)
Processor - Intel Core i7 960 3.2GHz
Case - Cooler Master Cosmos ATX Full Tower Case Silver
Power Supply - Corsair CMPSU-750TX 750-Watt TX Series 80 Plus Certified
DVD/CD drive - Sony Nec Optiarc 24X Dual Layer DVD+/-RW SATA (3G) Drive
Main Hard Drive - Intel 160 GB X25M Mainstream SATA II (3G) Solid State Drive (SSD)
Graphic card - ATI Radeon 4870 1GB (from my last computer)
Additional Data Hard Drives - 2 X Western Digital 1.5 TB Caviar Green SATA (3G) Intellipower. one Maxtor 300GB ATA drive (removed from my last computer).Graphics is reused as I will wait a bit longer to replace it. I picked this board because it is fast and I wanted to take full advantage of the solid state drive. I did not buy any SATA-6G hard drives but can do that in the future. I opted for slower data drives since my programs will run off the solid state drive. I also installed my old SATA drive from my last computer so I can pull the information off. The motherboard comes with six SATA-3G ports so I used four for the hard drives, one for the front port eSATA, and one for the DVD writer. However, there are two SATA-6G ports I have not used, so I can still add two more drives or SATA-6G attachments.
This system is superfast with windows start-up amazingly quick. I cannot break down each component and say what contributes the most to the speed, but the motherboard seems to handle everything without conflict. Installation was no problem as all the components has easy to find locations and I did not have to set any pins. I have not optimized anything yet, just defaults at this point, so there is more to do, but I am glad you can trust a board to work well and that is what I got with this ASUS. So for the combination of features and reliability, I don't think you can do much better.
The only disappointment for me in the board is that it only has eight 2.0 USB ports. Eight may sound like a lot but with cameras, iphone, usb memory sticks, external hard drives, printer, and a few other objects wanting USB ports, I quickly run out (yes I can use an external hub but rather not). The motherboard does have two 3.0 ports but my case has 4 USB slots in the front port and I also wanted to install a Sony 18-1 card reader. With the four permanently attached USB ports on the back panel, I could not plug in the four front and the card reader. So for now I am doing without the card reader until I resolve the problem. But that does not take away from how well this board is performing.

(More customer reviews)I've been building systems since the 8086, so the i7 requirements are new, but the concept is the same. case, power supply, chipset, memory, motherboard, processor, video, and aux cards. That last one is the i7 downfall. If you want a SLI video you give up one slot for every graphics card you install. Asus managed to squeeze a good mixup of sli options into this design while maintaining the price. The result is one extra slot over their other designs, which could come in handy down the road in an SLI machine. It is *THE MAIN* reason I went with this particular pcb over all the others.
On the price, they are using the expensive japonese capacitors we have been hearing about. Really they are called low ESR caps. Low ESR stands for "Low Equivalent series resistance" which we would like as low as possible, i.e. zero, but in reality there is no such thing as a perfect capacitor - all have R-leakage, ESR, and L-ESL (series inductance which limits their frequency). Keeping ESR down improves performance and efficiency, while reducing heat and extending the lifetime of the capacitor. All good things!
These babies are not cheap - but you spot them all over the board, which is nice. In my early overclocking days I would desolder low ESR caps from other pcbs that got scrapped and add them near pci sockets and around the cpu to quiet the noise on the voltage planes. Asus doubled the number of low-ESR caps on this board vs. their cheaper ones, which is a big statement.
Secondly, their SLI layout allows for many options to plug in. This is a problem with virtually every atx form factor i7 pcb on the market - if you do sli you loose sockets for raid or sound - and especially for trade specific useful cards like mixer cards for audio. In a dual SLI most boards leave you with 1 slot while this board leaves you 2 slots. My advice - buy the gtx 295 with dual sli built in and keep your slots open - all of them.
Nitpicks.
Setting up has been a problem with asus' driver server. they have gone to a torrent based system of getting drivers, bios, and manuals because their bandwidth is maxed out. Guys at asus - wake up. The internet is getting faster, and while your approaches are innovative, having to install a file sharing program to download drivers is not cool. Some companies prohibit file sharing apps alltogether.
As usual, Asus provides monitoring and configuration beyond factory spec so you can overclock if you know what you are doing. They have also made upgrades easier using usb sticks instead of bootable floopies or cds which is smart since many systems lack a floopy nowdays.
Clearance is good for adjoining cards despite their use of heatpipe technology to cool their chipsets. Anyone going liquid cooling will have to remove this and make a heatsink in the cpu's liquid line because they are relying on the airflow around the proc to cool their radiators.
I will update as I get a 2nd LCD display added - I do not expect this to be as easy as other prior products which had headers. Otherwise I am pleased with this version's PCB layout. and having run mentor graphics boardstation myself I approve of their tradeoffs.
I bought this to replace an OEM junk-level PCB so I will also show the process of upgrading an OEM system purchased for its memory (24g) and cpu (975 3.33G quad extreme) for less than their retail prices. By purchasing HP's 180 I ended up with a discount on the uP and ram, plus a free case, power supply, keyboard, mouse, video recorder (PVR) and operating system. Not bad really.

(More customer reviews)Dude this board rocks it has everything u can possibly amagine and more.I used one button to overclock my i7 930 to 3.6ghz first try with ram running at 1600hz people were saying they were having problems with the overclocking button i must be lucky it works awesome u can turn it off whenever u want to i only use it for games.Im using a zalman 9900 and it works awesome and very quiet, so if your looking for a great motherboard this is your ticket.For this price range u get rampage 3 gene/extreme which i didnt care for one bit search around u will see this is the one and its futureproof for a long time and u will get amazing speeds at whatever u throw at it.Exellent product MSI thank u ps. for those of u getting lag u have to overclock your system to at least 3.8 definitetly if running sli ever heard of bottleneck.
