Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)I spent more time researching SSD drives than I care to repeat. So far it has been an amazing experience. I know, I know, it could all change with a flash/blue screen, but for now I'm in heaven. The speed is utterly astounding. Final Cut, Photoshop and even VMWare/Win 7 open almost instantly. I used to go out for coffee when I'd click the VMWare icon in the dock. Now it's "bounce, bounce, 3-4 seconds of "Resuming..." and BOOM. There it is. It's an over-used expression, but it really has changed my life.
A FEW THINGS I'M DOING
Just to make sure this euphoria doesn't end too abruptly: 1) Back up everything you don't use then delete it from your machine before switching to this as your primary drive. In general, SSD drives degrade when they fill up. I bought this Super Talent model because my research led me to believe that it would not have the same issue, but better safe than sorry. I'm keeping as much free space as I can. 2) On a Mac, keep Activity Monitor open and make sure you're not writing a ton of page outs (caching memory to the disk). I have a feeling that will be the demise of an SSD. If you use After Effects, good luck accomplishing this. You can do it if you tweak your memory usage prefs and close all other apps before rendering.
WHAT THE FUTURE MAY HOLD
I have occasionally noticed a clicking/crackling sound coming from the machine now. Maybe I'm just noticing this because now the machine is TOTALLY silent otherwise. Or maybe it's just discharging static. Or maybe my machine is infested by aliens from M. Night Shamalan's "Signs". Whatever the case - it's scary. I just knocked on wood or whatever similar substance my desk is made from.
Overall, right now, I'm totally stoked. Well worth the money.
