(More customer reviews)I received the Gateway NV53A as a birthday gift from my boyfriend. It was the very first laptop i've owned (after using many other computers), and I love it. Previously, I owned a Dell Dimension 4400 Desktop with Windows XP from 2002.
Having used vista on other computers that (that were not my own), I can tell that Windows 7 was a massive improvement.
Pros:
- pretty good battery life
- didn't come with a lot of bloat/pre-installed programs.
- thin, non-bulky design
- 4 USB ports
- Includes built-in webcam
- large, widescreen 15.5 inch display
- comfortable, keyboard with large-lettered keys
- Sleek, modern, attractive design
- Incredibly fast and smooth performance
Cons:
- webcam quality could be better
- A bit weighty
- The keyboard is not too deep, but the keyboard could have been designed so that cleaning around the keys is easier.
- the touchpad is too receptive to finger oils, and needs to be cleaned often. Could also be a bit bigger.
- The click button/bar, under the touchpad could be a little less stiff and easier to press.
- NO BACKLIGHT - one of the biggest cons. Since I normally use my laptop at night, this usually forces me to use usb plugin lamps or rely on my typing skills to see what i'm doing.
- The Plastic casing on the inside is easily scratched/smudged
All in all, despite the drawbacks, it's awesome and I haven't had many problems with it.
