Epson PowerLite S3 LCD Projector Review

Epson PowerLite S3 LCD Projector
Average Reviews:

This is a good product. I especially liked the design and convenient menu. Very easy to use and good picture quality. Two things I did not like about this projector: (1) no optical zoom and (2) only 800by600 resolution. This is not a problem if you plan to place the projector close to the screen, such that your image is not very large. In my case I wanted to project images on a wall in my living room (which is about 14 inches long) and mount the projector next to the opposite wall. It did not work. The image size was huge and the image quality was not so good. I could see separate pixels and it was very annoying. You can decrease the image size digitally, but it does not improve the image quality.
I ended up returning this projector and ordering Epson Powerlite 76C LCD instead. Couldn't be happier. 76C has all the same features + 1024by768 resolution and optical zoom. Definitely worth additional $250!

Want to take your presentations, movies, video games, and television programs to the next level? The Epson PowerLite S3 can take you there. Fill your home, office, or classroom with glorious, larger-than-life images using this affordable 5.6-pound projector. The projector, which features 800 x 600 (SVGA) resolution, delivers 1600 lumens so you can experience all your entertainment with oversized images that surpass even big-screen TVs.
Epson 3LCD technology ensures accurate color and remarkable saturation, even in well-lit rooms. Plus, specialized color modes mean you get the most vibrant images, whatever the situation, and smooth video playback means that onscreen action sequences come alive. And best of all, the PowerLite S3 makes setup a breeze. The projector also features a time-saving instant off feature.
Great for Presentations Because the S3 is so light, you can take it anywhere, making it ideal for presenters on the go. The instant off feature lets you turn off the projector and unplug it immediately--then you're off to your next presentation. Epson 3LCD technology consistently delivers vibrant images and rich color saturation, plus a deep, extensive gray scale for precision detail--even subtle gradations are visible. There's also a USB port for mouse and keyboard connectivity, as well as an included soft carry case.
Video Magic Not just for presenters, the S3 shines in the living room, too. Just switch the projector from presentation mode to theater mode, and suddenly, you've got an amazing home theater. The S3's smooth video playback makes onscreen action come alive. It offers a big-screen performance that makes it easy to enjoy DVDs or video games with amazing color and detail. It's even HDTV-ready, and you can select both traditional and widescreen formats (4:3/16:9). Plus, you can choose the photo mode for viewing digital slideshows. This mode offers black-and-white enhancement levels to view more detail, even in over- and under-exposed images. Finally, game mode enhances darker images, giving you a better gaming experience. The S3's analog connections include video-RGB, composite video, S-video, component video (via video-RGB), and audio RCA.
Easy Setup and Maintenance With the included full-featured remote control you can easily switch sources, control presentation functions, and more. Plus, the projector has a five-second startup time to avoid presentation delays and reduce pre-presentation jitters. Color-coded cables make connectivity easy for first-time users. Lastly, 30-degree keystone correction offers greater positioning flexibility without any distortion.
Maintaining the S3 is a breeze, too. Conveniently placed lamp and air filters are designed for easy, affordable changes, even when the projector is ceiling-mounted. A built-in high-speed fan quickly cools the projector, especially in high-altitude locations. The S3 ships with a two-year limited warranty, plus a 90-day lamp warranty for added dependability. During the duration of the two-year limited warranty, the Epson Road Service program provides a replacement projector, typically within 24 hours. The warranty is good in over 45 countries and Epson supplies a toll-free support line.

I have this notebook for about 2 months now. Although I only use HP DM-3 for mobile surfing, I have been able to perform heavy jobs from time to time.
This notebook weigh only 4.25lb and it is pretty light to carry around. I put it in my swiss gear bag and I barley notice the weigh. It doesn't have any CDROMS drive but it doesn't bother me a bit because I only needed only once during these two months and I think I can live with it because it is so light without CD-Drive.
The pros of the this Notebook is that
1. Light (as I mention only 4.2 lb)
2. Window 7 (better than linux and window vista)
3. 3 GB of memory in window 64 bit (window uses about 1GB), It is easily accessible in the back for upgrade. (although I never tried it before)
4. Wireless draft N, faster if you could get draft N signal.
5. Storage 340 with HP protect smart, you could get bigger space for this much money but not at this weigh.
6.Built webcam and mic is descent enough to hold video conference.
7. Keyboard and the metal cover is such a charm, many people think I paid a lot more than what I really pay for this.
8.4 USB, typical, one mic port and audio out. Nothing fancy but I am really sold for the one HDMI port. I can instantly hook up with my sharp 46" through HDMI cable and browse the web or watch online movie (I watch more movies and browsing the web).
Now the cons
1. Battery life is no where they claim it to be, they said nearly 6 hours in HP sites, I barely get past 4 with minimum power usage.
2.Track pad is difficult to operate.
3. Over heat quickly when watching movies or doing heavy tasks, otherwise, it is fine.
4. Hibernation does not resume window quickly.
As you can see, there are more pros than cons and I am one of those people who hate Netbook because it is too damn small. This worth the extra money.

Sekonic L-308s Light Meter (Black) Review

Sekonic L-308s Light Meter (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This meter is dead easy to use, largely because it is not cluttered with features most of us don't need often if ever. This meter is one you put at the subject location or hold in the sun to obtain a single reading. If you want to read various locations in a scene and have your meter provide an "average" reading, this meter is not for you -- you'll have to figure the average in your head.
It has the advantage of using easily obtained and relatively cheap batteries, which in a pinch can be pirated from other devices most of us have around the place, such as small flashlights and TV remote controls.

The pocket-sized Sekonic L-308S FLASHMATE is the smallest and lightest digital light meter in the Sekonic line-up. Designed to read ambient or flash exposures in either reflected or incident modes, the L-308S delivers accurate exposure readings in full, half, or third-stop increments to mirror the exposure displays of most popular cameras. When set to full-stop mode, exposures are displayed in tenth-stop increments with a repeat accuracy of +/- 0.1 EV.Reflected readings capture at a light receiving angle of about 40-degrees, or slightly wider than the viewing field of a normal lens. For incident readings, a small, built-in Lumisphere slides over the silicon diode sensor. For flat-field incident readings, a Lumidisc (included) snaps over the sensor for metering flat artwork or measuring contrast and/or exposure ratios within a scene. Electronic flash exposures can be taken with or without a PC cord.

Sony a55 DSLR Camera with 18-55mm zoom lens Review

Sony a55 DSLR Camera with 18-55mm zoom lens
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had a Panasonic FZ30 "bridge" camera for five years. It is the type of camera without interchangeable lenses and a small sensor. I've really enjoyed that camera as it had good ergonomics, a great 35mm to 420mm 12x zoom lens, shot video, a good set of features, and pretty good stills. However I found it limited me in three areas (there's always something right?):
1) I wanted better image quality.
2) I wanted better low light capability.
3) I wanted better video performance.
Not wanting to carry and change lenses I searched for another bridge mega-zoom type of camera but they all suffered from the same small sensors and limited low light capability. So I decided I had to make the leap to an interchangeable lens camera. I would search for one that had a sort of mega-zoom lens available so I could just have one lens.
I looked at DSLRs but they are so big, so expensive, and so heavy that I shyed away from them.
Recently several micro four-thirds size sensor cameras came on the market, all using a new set of lenses, but I wasn't impressed with them. I thought if the sensor had been the biggest problem in my FZ30 I didn't want just a step up, I wanted a large leap up in sensor size.
Then I saw Sony introduce the A33 and A55. Reading through the specification I was so excited to see it would likely meet all of my wants and then some.
I've had the A55 for just over a week and I am very happy with it. I have the one lens I wanted (sort of) which is the Sony SAL18250 with a 33mm equivalent of 27mm to 375mm, almost as much zoom as my FZ30. I do appreciate the wider 27mm and can crop on the PC to extend the zoom range. Photo quality with this camera/lens combination is a huge improvement, just what I was looking for.
This camera is small compared to most other DSLRs on the market, but it is competitive in photo quality, ahead in video quality, and has some great features not found on even much more expensive cameras.
The sensor used in the A55 is an ASP-C size used in many prosumer DSLR cameras. Sony has done a great job combining advanced features into a small and light body.
As for low light the FZ30 was limited to 400 ISO while the A55 goes up to a somewhat grainy 12,800 and can mimic 25,000 in one mode. So it far exceeds my needs for low light capability. There is little noise up to about 6,400.
The video quality is astounding at 1080i/60fps (captured at 30fps, recorded at 60fps). It is smooth, sharp, and the color is good even in low light. Check it out on youtube.com
There are lots of detailed professional reviews online so I won't go much deeper - and I'm not the one to do that anyway. I'm just an amateur photographer who wants to take good photos of my seven month old grand son, some videos of wake boarders behind our boat, and photos of family gatherings. This camera will do that and much more.
There are many complaints of low battery life but it is better than my FZ30 so I am happy. I have three batteries which should solve any low battery issues anyway. It depends a lot on your shooting conditions. Yesterday I took 700 photos with very little auto focus required; the battery level showed 75% after those 700 shots. This was just a test and the total duration was less than 15 minutes. I just offer it to say that your shooting conditions will dramatically alter battery life.
Pros:
- Light weight, small and easy to handle.
- Great photo quality
- Even better video quality than most.
- Very fast, continuous Auto Focus even during video.
- Level indicator on screen (I can't tell you how many images I've had to adjust photos on the PC for a crooked horizon)
- Fully articulated 2.9" LCD (I won't buy a camera without one of these)
- Very nice Electronic View Finder. Some see this as a "Con" if they've come from an OVF. I've only used EVF for 10 years so this is no big deal for me.
- Nice, sharp, 18-250 lens (an option I purchased separately.
- Panorama mode - take an auto-stitched sequence of photos in one quick motion. Awesome feature.
- High Dynamic Range - Take, for example, a photo indoors with a bright window in the background. HDR will properly expose both the inside of the room and the image outside the window - automatically in the camera.
- Hand Held Twilight mode - take a photo in very dark conditions. The camera will take 6 photos and combine them to achieve amazing 25,000 ISO equivalent photos.
- Night portrait - uses the flash for the person in the foreground but properly exposes the background too.
- Amazing Night View scene mode - take great city skyline photos at night.
- Built in pop-up flash
- Built in GPS records where you are in the photo data. Display on Google Earth
- Face detection
- Smile shutter
- 10 Frames Per Second - yes 10fps. You can't find that in any other camera in this price range. And it will focus during the burst!
- Sensor switches from LCD to EVF when you put your eye up to the EVF. Neat!
- I can have one lens and just leave it there. No carrying two or three lenses and having the frustration of having the wrong lens attached for a given situation. I did the three lens dance many years ago and don't ever want to do it again. With one lens there is no issue with cleaning the sensor if it gets dust on it because I'll never have the sensor exposed to the air.
Cons:
- With the 18-250 lens the camera and lens weight about 2 lbs. That is about 1/2 lb. heavier than my FZ30 and I notice it.
- Lots of shooting, especially long video with the image stabilizer on, can result in an over heat shutdown. I've only had this happen once. Most of my videos are 1-3 minutes, well inside the overheat warning.
- To me the grip is uncomfortable and too small. I have average size hands for a man. After doing some research though I've learned I've been spoiled by my Panasonic FZ30 which had a very nice grip. I've tried a number of DSLRs and it seems many of them have grips that are not as comfortable for me as the FZ30.
If you are the owner of a larger, more expensive, DSLR you may find some things of this camera to fall a little short for your needs. One big issue is the lack of an OVF, another might be battery life. You may find, though, that the Sony A55 is a good addition to your camera inventory that is much smaller and lighter as a carry-around but still has great image quality and features. For you there are a lot of great Alpha lenses available for this camera.
If you are the owner of anything less than a DSLR I suspect you'll find this to be a gem of a camera. It has a lot of features that you can take your time to learn, but it also has several auto modes so you can treat it as a point-n-shoot. My wife picked it up this morning and took several photos without ever having touched it before. She took the lens cap off, turned it on, popped up the flash and took several great photos of me with my grand son.
Don't be scared away by those that tell you Canon and Nikon are the only good digital camera manufacturers. Sony makes sensors for Nikon.

This is a beautiful machine. Check it out -- 4.2 lbs, 1" thick, Magnesium case, 7200 rpm HDD, spectacular HD display, 4 GB memory, 320 GB Hard Drive, Iconic keyboard Windows 7, 4 USB ports, HDMI port, great WiFi,etc. etc. All for under $600! It's astonishing. One begins to wonder what truck they steal these off of. Yes, my title is correct, "Macbook Killer." Look at the two machines side by side -- they are pretty much the same thing. Yes, the Macbook Pro has a backlit keyboard, ok. But the DM3 has an HDMI port, which means I can attach it to my HDTV and play Neflix or Itunes movies, or youtube, etc. in High Definition. Sure, it has no optical drive, but folks, cd's and dvd's are becoming old technology, and being replaced by thumb/jump drives. Even software will be coming on these. Actually, the DM3 weighs almsot a pound less than a Macbook by eliminating the optical drive, and the advantages of using an external drive are many. Keyboards are almost identical, case is a toss up, display's are similar, windows 7 vs. Snow Leopard has its plusses and minuses going both ways. Yes, the Macbook is more powerful for high intensity graphics, but if you are using your computer as most people do, you will not notice the difference. But the knockout comes at checkout: It is less than 1/2 the price of a similarly configured 13" Macbook Pro!
It is so far superior to any netbook that there is no comparison there. Yes, it's not perfect. It does re-charge slowly, and the trackpad takes some getting used to. But it has so many fantastic features, when you factor in the price, it is the best value out there in ultraportable computing.
I have been using portable computers since the mid-eighties when they were 25 pounds with tiny monochrome screens floppy drives and cost $3000. Now for under $600, they are 1/6th the weight, yet 100 times as fast with 3000 times the storage and much more functionality. Think about how amazing this is! You will love this little machine.

Acer Aspire Timeline AS5810TZ-4274 15.6-Inch Laptop - 8+ Hours Battery Life
Average Reviews:

This is a great laptop. I read reviews and info about this for more than a month before laying down the cash for it. I've been extremely happy with it. It's thin and sexy. It's light (especially for a 15 inch laptop). It's extremely cool. The performance is good but not amazing. I mostly work with music editing and notation software and this laptop has handled all them fine. I play games online with it and I have yet to find a game that it can't handle (it should be noted I only play games from the browser and have no idea how a real computer game would do, but I know since this doesn't have a graphics card it probably wouldn't do well with 3d graphics, but I dont really know.) For everyday computing this computer has all the power you need. The 15 inch model is great too. The keyboard is full sized (which was somewhat of an adjustment after using cramped keyboards for so long) and the number pad is extremely helpful (at least to me).
The battery life is why you buy this computer. All day computing is no lie. I used to own a Dell and a Toshiba which got about 3 hours battery life at best, and then up to 10 minutes as they got old. It's been hard to break the habit of packing my power adapter when I leave but I've never needed it. I can go to school all day, take my computer to class, work in the library or cafeteria and never need to worry about running out of juice. If I crank it up to "High Performance" I can get a solid 5 to 6 hours of battery, on "Power Saver" I get an easy 8 and a half and if I turn off the WiFi I can get a little more then 10 hours. I've never, never, never, run it down completely during normal use.
Overall a great computer at a great price. Everything you need with an unbelievable battery life. Free yourself from the wall socket and buy this computer!

Data can be backed up to an external hard drive, flash card, thumb drive or to a secure hidden partition on their PC.

Extended Battery Life via Low Power Components and Acer's PowerSmart FeaturesWhile most notebooks with long battery life use higher cell batteries which protrude from the back of the notebook, Acer combined numerous low power components with a standard high-capacity 6-cell battery, allowing them to keep the design as small as possible.
In addition, a conveniently located PowerSmart button located above the keyboard allows you to easily extend battery life. A simple press of the button activates the advanced power savings settings, traditionally a tedious procedure accessed through numerous software-based steps. This one-button approach simplifies the process.

Lastly, an Acer PowerSmart adapter senses when the notebook is unplugged, and stops sending needless energy. It also stops pulling power from the wall outlet when the adapter is full. The PowerSmart adapter saves 1752 watts of energy a year--equivalent to lighting a 15-watt (65W equivalent) light bulb for 116 days.

ASUS U30JC-X3K 13.3-Inch Laptop - 9 Hours of Battery Life (Black) Review

ASUS U30JC-X3K 13.3-Inch Laptop - 9 Hours of Battery Life (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have spent many nights reviewing ultra portable and thin & light laptops comparing build quality, processor power, battery life, and of course, price. I finally decided upon the Asus U30JC when I caught a sale. Laptops under consideration were the Dell Latitude and Adamo, Sony Vaio Z series, Acer Timeline, and Asus' various versions using C2D and I3 series CPUs. My main desire was for the laptop to be my mobile workstation and entertainment hub. Primary activities include office productivity (MS and Open Office, Visio, GIMP...), video streaming, light gaming (WoW, Call of Duty, online Flash games), light coding, and web design. I was willing to spend up to $1k for a laptop which quickly ruled out the Adamo and Vaio. Battery life was key for me as I wanted the opportunity to sit outside and type for hours at a time. This laptop has met all of those requirements and more! Build quality is very nice and the black brushed aluminum looks fantastic! Being black it does require periodic fingerprint removal but I expected as much. I agree with others that there is some very minor flex on the keyboard but it is minimal and does not disturb my typing nor feels so flimsy that it will crush the motherboard. One minor gripe is that the spacebar does not always register if I tap on the far left. I have adjusted to it and press the spacebar more firmly with my thumb now. All other keys are sensitive enough for quick tap registry. The touchpad, when tuned to my liking, is a joy to use. The differentiation in texture from it and the aluminum palm rest is nice and I have acclimated to it and the rocker style mouse button just fine. Optimus technology works seamlessy and I have had no issues with any DVD and video playback using VLC or streaming standard and HD from Netflix, Youtube, etc,. I have not tried any current games like Black Ops but I have enjoyed WoW (up to Lich King), MAME, Call of Duty MW, and multiple Flash games on Kongregate. Battery life great for the performance and is adjustable. I can reach a little over 7 hours running the CPU @ 25%, display@ 25%, and devices (webcam, DVD) off. This allows me to type and remain online via wifi. Playing videos, installing apps, and other similar activities take a hit on the battery but have not dropped it to anything unreasonable. I will be running some battery tests and will update my review when I have time.
I did experience one minor issue with the touchpad not working which occurred during the initial setup process. It was not that big of a deal as I hopped through the Windows forms using tab but it could have been a real pain if one were not comfortable working without a mouse. Once the system rebooted it worked fine.
Overall my experience has been great and I absolutely love the laptop!

HP Pavilion DM3-1140US 13.3-Inch Laptop (Silver) Review

HP Pavilion DM3-1140US 13.3-Inch Laptop (Silver)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The HP Pavilion dm3 1130us (AMD CPU & ATI GPU model) is a good compromise between the portability of a netbook and the functionality of a full sized laptop. Technically in the "Ultra-portable/Thin & Light" category, I would say it is a netbook on steroids. I was looking for a portable computing solution but didn't want a small keyboard or a hard-to-read/small screen. It had to have a small form factor, yet have a more powerful processor and graphics than traditional netbooks. I use it mainly for office work, web surfing, video streaming, music listening and light gaming.
Most of the specs are readily available on Amazon, but you can get a more in-depth overview by going to HP's site and looking up the dm3z line in their Ultra-Portable category. The 1130 is essentially a later production run of the 1030, which is still available on Amazon as of this writing.
Back to what I was looking for;
Basically, I wanted a MacBook but only had about five hundred bucks to spend. I'm a Mac user normally but could not see paying so much for a laptop. I searched high & low and weighed several other options. In this laptop segment and at this price point, it is all about compromise and what you want as an end user. In this end, the 1130us was the best fit for me. I was able to find it on sale for under five hundred on the OfficeMax site and then found a [...] dollar rebate. I used that saving to buy a [...] , and so far that is working perfectly too. I was a little leery about getting an HP since they don't have the best reliability reputation, but I would expect more problem reports from a company that sells so many computers. My mother-in-law has a 3 year old Pavilion that still runs like new.
What I like about it:
1. It's fast, faster than I expected. Initial set-up was a snap. The 1.6GHz AMD Athon Neo X2 dual-core processor and ATI Mobility Radeon HD3200 graphics see to that. Perhaps not the best combo for intense Photoshop sessions or cutting edge 3D gaming, but I have several apps and browser windows open at once with no system slowdowns. Online video from various sources streams just fine and I've played a number of games (including Star Wars Battlefront) with no issues. The AMD cpu and ATI gpu combo uses more wattage than the Intel option, but I think you would sacrifice computing power for battery life if you went the Pentium or Core Duo route.
1b. 7200 RPM 320GB Hard Drive. Did I say it was fast? And spacious.
2. The screen. It is glossy, but not as bad as some and it is nice and bright. 13.3" w/ a 1366x768 widescreen resolution means things are a bit smaller than on a standard desktop monitor, but everything is nice and crisp and the colors are good. It seems much bigger. HD content looks great on it and the viewing angle isn't bad. I had a stuck pixel, but it went away. The lid opens about 135 degrees back so you can easily work with it on your lap. It has a nice firm hinge so there are no worries of it falling one way or the other.
3. Wi-Fi draft N. I've only had fast and excellent connectivity so far. Having bluetooth is nice too, but I've yet to use it.
4. Windows 7, not a cobbled Started Edition. Coming from OSX, I have to say I'm growing more and more impressed with the latest Windows OS. It seems to have more intricacies than with OSX, but I'm getting used to it and have to say the user interface is top notch. Before this, I've used XP and am so glad that Microsoft has finally refined their product. Connect a device for the first time and either the drivers are already there or they download automatically. Nice. Lots of eye candy too.
5. Touch pad. Some reviewers pan it, but I find it works well for me after a slight learning curve. Sure, it is the only fingerprint magnet on an otherwise lovely case, but I like the feel of the shiny chrome finish and find the multi-finger gestures useful. The "mouse-buttons" could be a little easier to depress, but that is a small quibble, just tap the pad. It is also very customizable to your specific needs. The 1030us touch pad had some wake-from-sleep issues, but that was fixed in the latest BIOS. I also use a [...] but have no problems adjusting to the touch pad if I leave mouse at the office.
6. 4 USB, 5-in1 card reader, 1 VGA, and 1 HDMI port. Connectivity ahoy!
7. Full sized keyboard. It took a little adjustment, but I like the quiet, island style keys. When in the proper position, I can type just as fast as with my desktop's keyboard. I measured it, and it is slightly LARGER than my G5's primary keyboard area!
8. The case. This is one sturdy feeling case with little or no flex that I can detect. You can hold it by a corner without fear. I love that it isn't a finger print magnet like so many others out there. The brushed aluminum finish is very attractive and gives it a high-end appearance.
9. It came with 4GB DDR2 ram, expandable to 8GB. With the 64bit OS, I could do this, but see no need to at the present time.
10. Cool. Even after all day use the air blowing out of the rear side exhaust vent is only slightly warm. The front wrist rests can get a little warm, but never uncomfortable (at least to me).
11. Quiet. If a completely silent room you can hear the faint breath of the fan, but otherwise it and the spinning hard drive are unnoticeable.
12. Well packaged. There are no disks included, but the manual and documentation are pretty clear.
13. Price. Find this on sale and you've got yourself one heck of a deal! What's not so great about it:
1. It is about 13" wide and weights about nearly 5 pounds with the battery inserted. For me that's no big deal but if you plan to lug your laptop around a lot, you may want to look at something smaller and lighter. It is only one inch thick so it slides easily into most bags.
2. Speakers. You know going in that they won't be that great, but I still couldn't help being a little disappointed. However, I tweaked the sound settings and get decent output now, though not very loud. It does the job though. Use earphones. I connected it to my speakers with a subwoofer and Pandora radio sounds terrific!
3. Battery life. I get about 4 hours of constant general use life out of it. Another reviewer stated he was able to play the entire Fellowship of the Ring movie before it went into hibernation, but I have not tested that. The good news is that 4 hours is still decent, and the power cord isn't too cumbersome. If you need an all-day, cord-free laptop/netbook, look elsewhere.
4. Some bloatware. Being new to Windows I researched what to do when you first get a computer. One of the most common recommendations is to remove the manufacturer installed software. I got rid of the MS Office trial and Norton. I'll still playing around with the suite of HP software. I may keep some, but will probably ditch a good bit of it. However, some users may like the included software. Even with it, the 1130us is a speedy customer.
5. No optical drive, but I knew that and won't need one every day. The Samsung will also be useful for my other computers.
6. No OS restore disk. I know, there is no optical drive and there is a recovery partition, but it still would have been nice.
7. Possible fit and finish issues. I just noticed a very slight gap along the top right front edge where the wrist wrest meets the side paneling. Pressing down on it does reveal a little flex. Not enough to return it, but it is worth keeping an eye on and could be cause for concern. It is too early to tell. (see my product photos)I have not used the Quickweb feature, but Windows 7 boots up (after some re-configuration) in less than a minute so I'm not sure I'd need it. I've also not yet used the HDMI out port or webcam. I plan to test both soon and have heard that the webcam is good in low light. I've only been using the 1130us for a little over a week so I can't speak to its long-term reliability, but so far so good. I'll post an update if I have anything new to add.
So, is the dm3 1130us the right model for you? If you are not a 3D gamer and want a nice looking, sturdy, portable laptop without most of the limitations of a netbook, then the answer could be "yes". Of course, technology is changing rapidly and in a few months the next latest and greatest will be out. But if you need something now, and want a lot of oomph at a great value, then the dm3 1130us could be your best bet. It exceeds my expectations at a price point other laptops couldn't match, so that is why I'm giving it 5 (4 1/2 actually) stars.
UPDATE: [...] - It is over a year later and I'm still loving this little machine. No major issues. Yes, the left palm rest can get a bit warm, but I've never had it become uncomfortably so. It still does everything I need it to with little fuss.

Average Reviews:

This is my second laptop - the first was a Lenovo as well, but HUGE - this is such an improvement - thin and light, and even more portable because the battery will last about 5 and a half hours, and it doesn't get hot. There's a power-saving feature, which minimizes energy usage at the touch of a button, but I haven't noticed much difference between that and the normal setting.
The screen brightness will adjust depending on the light setting you're in, which is convenient, and when I videochat, people have told me that the microphone will filter out background noise.
I think the laptop is only running on 2GB RAM, which is doing well with Windows 7 for the programs that I use, but I do notice a little lag when I'm opening up big photo files. The startup only takes about 2 minutes though - a huge step up from my last computer. If you're planning on doing more intensive visual stuff, I would recommend adding some extra RAM, but the screw-on panel at the bottom makes that easy to do.
The one complaint I have is that the touchpad is a little finicky - it'll zoom in and out when I'm just trying to scroll, and to click with the button, you have to make sure you press all the way down.

Monster® TRON iPod Identity Disc Dock (English/French/Spanish) - TRON edition iPod Dock
Average Reviews:

The Monster TRON iPod Identity Disc Dock can be described in one simple word...
INCREDIBLE...
Where to start? The Packaging alone is impressive and sleek. When you open the box, the dock is protected from scratching by several easily removed plastic sheathes.
The design is just awesome. The material used is a shiny black resin that looks like it literally jumped off the Grid!!
If you are a TRON fan... You will FLIP OUT over this!! If you are not... You will FLIP OUT over this.
The lighting effects are dead on in terms of their TRON world authenticity. The soft blue color of the lights with a white mixture is quite impressive as well.
You can keep the Disc lit up at all times if you wish. A sleek, stylish design around the Disc only enhances the look. Well designed... A fan boys dream... This Identity Disc Dock is AWESOME!!
THE TRON SYMBOL LOCATED ON THE BOTTOM FRONT PORTION OF THE DOCK ITSELF LIGHTS UP IN "TRON'S" WHITE COLOR FROM
'TRON LEGACY', WHEN YOU HIT THE LIGHT EFFECTS BUTTON ON THE REMOTE... THIS ALMOST BROUGHT ME TO TEARS OF JOY!!!! Seriously...
The remote control is very cool. Small and convenient. The TRON SYMBOL on the lower half of the controller is a giddy plus for fans.
THE SOUND OF THE SPEAKERS IS JUST AS IMPRESSIVE. The woofers are clear, sharp and don't crack when you crank it up. The bass is impressive for a product of this size.
TRON LEGACY is an incredible movie. Disney never messes around with product tie ins... But MONSTER has simply hit a grand slam on the Grid with this one. Top to bottom... On or off. The dock is gorgeous to look at, and will provide many a smile for fans of TRON LEGACY, the original TRON, and music lovers alike.
WELCOME TO THE GRID!!! Great job Monster!!!!!

First, I would just like to compliment Acer on this masterpiece. I say masterpiece in the sense that it is perfect for what I do, which is a lot of excel, downloading files, surfing the internet, checking email, etc. No gaming whatsoever except for a game of solitaire here and there. The build quality is excellent. Having read plenty of reviews about its build quality, I would just like to point out that the professionals reviewing it put it through strenuous tests that if, you use it as it should be used, you will never encounter problems or inconveniences they speak of. This machine is lightning fast with its Intel i3 processor and 4 GB of RAM. It doesn't slow up when I have 6 programs running at the same time either, which is key for me, as it is for many people. One aspect that I love is how light the computer is. It isn't incredibly light, but by no means is it heavy. I expect to have no problems when I put it in my backpack and ride my bike to school. It's that light. The screen is crystal clear, and I have had absolutely no problems viewing text, as some reviews claim. Also, the viewing angles are pretty good, although not stellar, but lets be honest, who views their laptops with it completely opened? No one. So don't worry about viewing angles being a problem if that is your concern. The one downside, if you can even call it a downside, is the battery life. Acer claims 8 hours, although I have only been able to get about 6 out of it. Plenty long enough for me, and if you manage your power settings and brightness correctly, it should be plenty for just about anyone. The black brushed aluminum is very sleek and proves to be a favorite for those who are tech-savvy, and want a sophisticated looking machine(like myself). The price is pretty reasonable for what you get with this laptop-not too many better buys out there. Overall, this is a great computer, and Acer has really outdone themselves. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone who is in need of a computer for the uses that I have talked about previously.

I had been using a netbook and liked the size and battery life it provided...however, I'm in my 70's and dealing with the small font, not to mention the slow speed of the netbook, I was growing tired of the netbook in general. When I read the reviews on this laptop I ordered one right off the bat. Most impressed with the battery life (I would guess I get about 6 1/2 hours and the speed is off the map by comparison top the netbook. Granted it's much bigger but does only weigh a bit over 5 pounds...terrific computer. Lightening fast!!
I have had 3 variations of Acer Computers and good luck with all of them.

It lives up to the hype. I've gotten great battery life out of it, and it's so light, and the resolution is AWESOME. The matte Black finish is semi-grippy as well, so it's easier to hold on to. I wish it had one of the i -series processors, but you can't have it all....except you get so much anyway. On-board Bluetooth (Best Buy kept telling me that BT was being phased out, and nobody used it; guess what dweeb? I DO!), and lots of memory... it's a very nice machine and just the right size. And there are tons of 13 inch Macbook sleeves and cases that fit it PERFECTLY.

Acer Aspire TimelineX AS3820T-6480 13.3-Inch HD Laptop (Black Brushed Aluminum) Review

I just received this laptop yesterday and have begun putting it through its paces. I'll update the review in the future but as there are no reviews yet I wanted to get it started in case there are others that are considering this model.
I'd consider myself a moderate user. General office programs (word and powerpoint for classwork), internet browsing w/HD video streaming, netflix streaming, some photo editing, music, etc. I wanted something thin and light that also offered more oomph than a mobile ulv processor. The i3 in this laptop just screams compared to an AMD Neo 1.5ghz powered Toshiba that I tried out before settling on this model. Battery life after the initial break-in charge and drain and refill has been outstanding. I have 5:31 remaing with 89% battery while I type this. Mind you I've been using it since 100% for about an hour installing 180mb's worth of Windows updates and a reboot. I have it on balanced mode with the screen brightness set to 80%. Wifi on and Word running in the background while researching and typing should yield over 7 hours with the settings I have. To me that's impressive and the Timeline series is living up to its claim. HD video plays well, despite not having a dedicated graphics card. I think that's why you'll find the price on this model to be a little lower than other comparable Acer and ASUS models. I debated between this model and an ASUS that was near the same price point. However the ASUS models near this price point had an ULV processor, so the Acer won out. Build quality is solid, no flex in the keyboard. The screen is bright and vivid. So far I'm quite happy with the choice. As I said to open, I'll update this later.UPDATE:
Now that I've spent some time with the keyboard and track pad I find both to be easy to use. The mutli-gesture track pad works well and the swirls gesture makes scrolling down long web pages or easy. It's great if you're a tumblr user and want to scroll down your dashboard. The keyboard has great tactile feedback and the reaches are a little short but I found it quite easy to adjust coming from and excellent Fujitsu keyboard. I left the battery setting where I had previously mentioned and have had no trouble hitting 7 usable hours of battery life with wifi some HD streaming and light word usage. Still a 5 star product and the price point is great.
Pro's
-Build quality
-battery life

Con's
-426 GB of usable HD space, 463 of actual space with OS loaded and the bloatware. I've been around long enough to know that HD space is never as it's listed, but Acer, where did my 37 GB's go?!?
