(More customer reviews)This is a solidly designed and built surge protector. It has a location for two coax lines plus two phone lines in addition to protection for the house electrical system. Obviously no one will really know if the unit works until there is a surge or lightning strike, but I purchased this since I live in a remote area where power outages are common, and restarts can be jumpy. So far, so good.
This is a large unit, so you will need about 4 square feet near your panel or main to mount it for best protection. Instructions are clear and shouldn't be too difficult for a knowledgable homeowner. I would highly recommend getting an electrical permit and inspection from the local authority (or make sure that your electrician gets one. He won't complain if he's honest) otherwise any warranty or insurance coverage would likely be void.
One thing to be prepared for: SOME compact fluorescent light bulbs may flicker slightly when this unit is installed. I use CFL's exclusively through my house, and one size of one brand (bulbs in 2 fixtures to be exact) flicker slightly. In my case, they are not in a location which are annoying, or I would replace them.
Beware of some units on the market that promise a lot for a little. They just don't exist. For additional protection, get strip protectors for sensitive equipment like TV's for surges that may originate WITHIN the house (due to stopping and starting of motor equipment and other reasons.)
