Design and Build Quality:
Very good design, the laptop looks like a cross between a black mac book and an EEE PC but with a solid feel to it. Key has little to no flex, neither does the chassis and lid. Although when full closed...the lid seems to not be perfectly flush with the base at times. I can only guess that constant adjustment to the screen causes some type of flex in the metal that houses the rear of the LED screen ( albeit very minimal ). It would've been nice if that metallic finish carried over to the undercarriage of the laptop but at the price I purchased it for I can easily over look that. The hard drive certainly lives up to the whisper quiet attributes it advertises and the unit does not get very hot, at least from my experience. There is one spot beneath the vent fan where the Official Windows Sticker is mounted that does attract some heat, but it's nothing unbearable, just something to mention.
Performance:
Yes this is the ultra low wattage 330UM version of the i3 chip installed, but I highly doubt you'd notice much of a difference unless your a heavy gamer or doing some type of media rendering. I find that it performs fairly well and with the hyperthreading, it seems to be very responsive in everyday tasks. Now here's something that many of you should be aware that affects this model at the time of this review...The Nvidia Optimus technology has some issues with flash 10.2 and you'll find that some videos on youtube will not play, give you sound but no video, give you no availability for full screen, or all of the above. I initially thought I was at fault, because I had done a fresh install of Windows 7 to avoid all the bloatware on the notebook...but reading some nvidia forums I came to realize that there definitely is some type of incompatibility issue between Adobe and Nvidia regarding Flash support. Rumors are that they'll release a fix in a couple of weeks so the problem ( hopefully ) should go away once the new driver is released from Nvidia and installed. ( As far as I know this only affects the Nvidia Optimus technology and the Adobe Flash 10.2 release )
Battery Life:
Depending on what your doing the battery life will fluctuate tremendously, but I usually get around 4 hours or so with all the videos, music, and surfing that I do. The Optimus technology does help with that.
Other thoughts:
For the price and features that this offers, it was definitely a good buy. It's a solid laptop that performs very well even with the issues I've run into with Flash and Optimus. Will try to update as I find more things to talk about, but for now I'm very happy with my purchase and I'll probably keep and use this laptop for a very long time
Note: This laptop comes preinstalled with Adobe Flash 10.1 , The conflict should only be an issue if you upgrade to 10.2 before Nvidia or Asus releases a fix.
