I bought the OCZ OCZSSD2-1SUM120G Summit Series 120GB SATA II Solid State Drive , While Amazon sells it for $398, I was able to pick one up for just under $300 with a $20 rebate directly from OCZ. The specs are fantastic :Min Trans Rate 160 mb/sec;max trans rate 194 mb/sec; access time 0.2 ms. I used this as the boot disc for Windows Vista Ultimate ,and it cut down my start up time by 2/thirds, and knowing how slow Vista is to load, this is remarkable. I plan to use more SSD drives as boot discs only, therefore , you only really need to purchase one between 30 and 120mb total size, while using conventional SATA 7200 rpm drives to store data on.
The interface it the same as the sata drives you are used to, and connection is a snap, you do not have to format these drives, and in fact you should not attempt to defrag or low-level format this type of drive , for fear of destroying its efficiency and speed.
I am impressed and I believe you will be also.

I just got this yesterday after a long weekend wait and let me tell you this thing rocks. And it rocks fast :). I am going to give you a review on a perspective of real world use and not on benchmark with all the numbers, not yet anyways.
I bought this for my MacBook Pro unibody and it is the best upgrade I have ever done. The speed is just simply mind boggling. I was shocked on how fast everything is. I am not talking about user wishful thinking, bias opinion of the speed gain, I am talking about screaming fast, jaw dropping speed. To give you some ideas on how fast this thing boots up, with the original stock drive, I got out a stop watch and timed it (not very scientific here but it'll do) and it took 1 minutes and 46 secs to cold boot the MacBook Pro into the desktop. With this new SSD, it took 22 seconds.
Applications loading is extremely fast as well. I mean, as soon as you hit the icon, the app is already fully loaded. I have a 8000 songs iTunes library plus about 40+ movies and 10 TV shows and iTunes loaded with lighting speed. It used to take at least a full minute to fully load iTunes, now it takes, literally 1 to 2 seconds (yes you read correct 1 to 2 secs to fully load iTunes).
I also have Photo collections with several thousands pics and it took, are you ready? It took 2.2 seconds to load the entire library. How cool is that?
Safari and FireFox are both stunning in loading speed with about 8 tabs of web pages.
My machine was running fairly cool with the old drive but when watching movies, the machine gets warm or sometimes hot to touch. With this SSD, I watched a full length 2 hour movie and the bottom of the MB Pro is steel cold. The fan never kicked on the entire movie. In fact I have not heard the fan since yesterday. To be fair, the MB Pro is so efficient that I never had any problem with heat or hear the fan noise but with the SSD drive, it is just dead quite. Very strange to use a completely noiseless and steel cold to the touch notebook.
About the drive. I did extensive research and found that this is one of the very best right now, watch out Intel (I think Intel still is the King). Before you get turned off my the name Corsair, it is really a Samsung drive with Samsung RAM chips and controller. Samsung has its own version of 256GB SSD but they only sell to OEM and not regular folks like you and me.
A tip:
Installation of the drive into MB Pro is very simple. Remove one screw that holds the drive and remove the 4 screws on the old drive (need special screw driver for these 4 screws). There is a video from OWC computing that shows exactly how to do it.
Painless upgrade:
I first put the SSD drive into an external USB enclosure. Downloaded SuperDuper, a free program to clone my old existing drive to the new SSD. Installed the SSD into MB Pro and boot it up. The first time booting up with SSD took a lot longer than what I stated earlier. I believe the OS needs to do some configuration for it first. After another reboot, the speed was astonishing.
I know that this is not cheap and I hear you. But if you want the joy of the greatest upgrade ever in the history of upgrading, this drive is the drive to get. Also, DO NOT go cheap on SSD drives. You get what you paid for. All SSDs are not created equal. Go do some research before buying but if you want to listen to someone who already did the research, read anything and everything on SSDs for years, then run, don't walk and buy this awesome drive.

I've had 10K rpm drives in my computer, but nothing compares to the speed of this SSD. The thing just smokes. The 2.5 inch form factor is ok with my desktop as long as you get a 2.5 to 3.5 inch adapter. 128MB is more than enough space. I've got Win 7 ultimate, Office 2007, a number of document handling programs, some video and photo editing software, itunes, etc. and I'm only using 30GB.
In all honesty, I didn't think I would see the magnitude of change in loading the system from boot. It's really interesting also that the time it takes to come back from sleep (standby) and the time it takes to come back from hibernation is remarkably similar.
If you are tired of slow booting, this is for you.

The Intel X-25E Extreme SATA Solid State Drive is the ideal storage solution for servers, high-end workstations, and other enterprise applications. Unlike traditional hard drives with moving parts, the X-25E uses NAND flash memory that offers extreme performance and reliability and delivers the highest Input/Output Operations per second (IOPS) per watt.
A New Kind of Storage for Faster Performance and Better Reliability For enterprise applications, where performance, reliability, power consumption, and space are critical, the X-25E is the ideal solution. Instead of spinning platters like traditional hard drives, the X-25E is a Solid State Drive (SSD) and uses flash memory for storage, so there are no moving parts to break down.
The X-25E works and installs just like traditional drives: it uses the latest SATA interface for throughput of up to 3.0 Gbps and is in the industry-standard 2.5-inch form factor. For your peace of mind, Intel has even tested and validated every X-25E drive on the latest Intel-based server and workstation platforms, so you'll be confident of its superb reliability.
All this adds up to a storage solution that is quieter, cooler, takes up less space, and uses less power. Just imagine the reduction in total cost of ownership (TCO) when you replace dozens of high-RPM traditional drives in your server with just one X-25E.
Performs Even Faster than Other Solid State Drives Intel has been making memory chips for decades, and it shows with the X-25E's intelligent design and outstanding performance. The drive implements an advanced architecture, using 10 parallel NAND flash channels with single-level cell (SLC) NAND flash memory for greater performance and reliability than drives that use multi-level cell (MLC) flash memory. The drive also features technologies such as Native Command Queuing, which enables up to 32 simultaneous operations.
The result is higher input/output operations per second (IOPS) and throughput than other SSD drives on the market. It achieves sustained sequential read speeds of up to 250 MBps and sustained sequential write speeds of up to 170 MBps, with a read latency of just 75 microseconds. The X25-E performs more than 35,000 IOPS with random 4 KB reads, and more than 3,300 IOPS with random 4 KB writes.
Higher Reliability and Silent Operation Compared to traditional hard drives, the X-25E is both faster and more durable. Since it doesn't have spinning disks or writing heads, there are fewer parts to fail. It is also less susceptible to vibrations and shock and is completely silent. The X-25E is rated at 2 million hours mean time before failure (MTBF) for superb reliability.
Lower Power Consumption is Good for the Wallet and Environment The X-25E also consumes far less power than traditional drives, lowering energy costs an making it an environmentally friendly choice. When active, the drive draws 2.4 W on a typical server workload and just 0.06 W when idle.
The Intel X-25E Extreme SATA Solid State Drive is RoHS compliant for its use of non-hazardous materials. It supports Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology (SMART) commands as well as additional SSD monitoring. It is backed by a three-year limited warranty. The great performance of the X-25E makes it ideal for servers, workstations, and other critical use.

I needed a new HD after my high end 7.2k 250GB drive started to fail and after much reading of many reviews I gave this new SSD a shot.
WOW! This drive is so very fast it is amazing. Vista Ultimate 32bit installed in a few min, boot up is just crazy, and everything works as it should. My system has that snap that makes a joy to use.
Of course, if you need to store a ton of images, DVD images, or the like then you might not find 32gb to be acceptable but for me it is fine. After Vista, Office 2003, QBs, FireFox, and a couple of gigs of files I have 7.5gb free. Not a lot but enough.
If you are OK with the price and need a new HD this one is the way to go; I can't ever see myself going back to a non SDD drive again.

I'm not going to get too deep into the numbers (you can find those online for the various iterations of the Sandforce based controllers), but let it be known that for the price, this little drive delivers a phenomenal performance boost for any laptop.
I use my laptop as a development machine and with the Callisto, it absolutely screams along. The laptop boots up to a usable browser in about 25 seconds. Visual Studio 2010 loads in under 4 seconds, even with various add-ins installed. Applications like Office 2010 and Firefox load instantly.
I store and run my virtual machines off a secondary, disk based HDD (Western Digital Scorpio Black) as the size of the SSD isn't conducive for the storage of large virtual machines. Performance is still great given that the majority of the reads/writes for the VM is done on loading/unloading of the VM (hint: not worth it to store you VMs on the SSD unless you have the $$$ to spring for the 240GB SSD).
In summary: get one and you'll never go back to disk based HDDs!

This is a great little drive. It is significantly faster than the current 64GB flash drives and has twice the space. It is small enough to fit easily in your pocket. It requires either 2 USB ports, or 1 eSATA and 1 USB port, because it draws power from one USB port and transfers data using the other port (Comes with 2 y-cables, one for USB only, the other for eSATA/USB). Mine worked perfectly right out of the box. I liked the first one so much, I bought a 2nd one to use as an off-site backup for my home computers. The only reason I gave this product only 4 stars is because it is currently quite pricey.

Crucial Technology 256GB Crucial M225 Series 2.5-Inch Solid State Drive (CT256M225)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been happy with this drive for several weeks now. It is small, energy-friendly, silent, and very fast. Of course, it is a product for early adopters, due to the cost and the small size relative to normal hard drives, but the performance alone is worth it for some. If you are comfortable enough with a computer to either burn a CD from an .iso file or create a bootable USB drive, I strongly recommend you install the latest firmware version 1916 that Crucial recently made available on their web site. This firmware includes a few bugfixes and supports background garbage collection (useful for RAID configurations) and Trim support under Windows 7, which helps the drive maintain a high speed over the life of the drive. The drive has a 5 year warranty. The drive supports other operating systems, including Mac OS X, but works a bit better under Windows 7 and recent Linux versions, due to specific support for SSD drives there. Under Windows Vista/XP, Crucial provides a manual "Wiper" tool to help restore any lost performance over time. The Crucial specifications are basically accurate - using the ATTO Disk Benchmark, I can get a little over 200 MB/sec on writes and almost 250 MB/sec on reads from the drive. This measurement is taken after using the drive heavily for several weeks. Another suggestion is to disable the automatic/background disk defrag for this drive in Windows Vista/7. This feature is enabled by default in many installations. To disable it under Windows 7, for example, right-click the hard drive in My Computer, choose Properties, select the Tools tab, click Defragment, and turn off scheduled defragmentation. SSDs do not need to be defragmented, since there is no latency in accessing different sections of the drive, and a regular defrag will actually decrease the maximum life of the drive, since the writes to each storage location on the drive are (somewhat) limited.
The downsides of a product like this are the high cost, fairly small capacity, and the fact that it is a fairly new technology for consumer PCs.

I was hesitant to order this SSD since I had read about certain Air's that would not accept a drive larger than 64 or 80gb. So, I took AMP at their word and ordered this 128gb SSD. I did have one or two boots that did not recognize the drive, but after unplugging the battery and reseating the pata zif everything was great. Install of Snow Leopard was quick and I was able to restore everything from a CCC clone on a USB drive in no time. This is the fastest this lightweight has been and I love it. Seems like a new unit. Installation was not that bad either (9 to 10 minutes), so if your Rev. A Air is out of warranty as mine is, I highly recommend this upgrade.

Bought the Inferno after reading some Sandforce reviews. The drive was packaged nicely and also included the 2.5" to 3.5" adaptor which is a welcome addition. Installed the Inferno, cloned the old drive over, and setup/optimized Win7 for it without a hitch. Ran the ATTO benchmark and the results were astounding! Achieved 271Mb/s write and 282Mb/s read which is not just fast but ridiculous fast! Been using this drive for a month, re-ran ATTO, and have lost no performance so TRIM works wonderfully. Boot time used to be 1 minute and I'd have to wait for the startup apps to load once in Windows. Now with the Inferno, boot time has dropped to 35 seconds with all startup apps loaded as soon as you see the desktop! The Inferno is worth every penny I paid and with a best in class 5 year warranty, you really can't go wrong with this drive.

Instead of buying a new laptop I decided to upgrade my hard drive to an SSD. I did a bit of research and settled on the 128GB that included the upgrade bundle kit. I never thought the upgrade would be this easy. From the time I started following the instructions until the time I booted my computer with the new drive, it literally was 90 minutes. More impressive than the upgrade are the results. I upgraded a Dell Latitude D830 with 4GB of RAM that I purchased new 2 1/2 years ago. Here are the results:
- Cold Boot from power on until Outlook loaded and ready to use (in the startup list)...before: 5 minutes, 40 seconds. NOW: 1 minute, 45 seconds
- Hibernate before: 45 seconds, NOW: 32 seconds
- Power on from Hibernate: Before: 55 seconds, NOW: 30 seconds
Overall my computer is running MUCH faster. As I look back at the technology purchases I made in 2010, this one ranks right below the Ipad. I highly recommend the product for upgrading your laptop or desktop to an SSD drive.

Corsair 128 GB Nova Series TRIM Supported 2.5 Inch Solid State Drive (SSD) CSSD-V128GB2-BRKT Review

Corsair 128 GB Nova Series TRIM Supported 2.5 Inch Solid State Drive (SSD) CSSD-V128GB2-BRKT

Boot-up times, after the BIOS completes loading, on Windows 7 64, including antivirus program, averages 25 seconds to a usable, stable desktop.
This is not an exaggeration: 25 seconds.
Launching programs installed on the SSD does not get the obvious speed bump, compared to a fast magnetic drive, as boot times. But since the virtual drive is on the SSD overall computer performance is faster.
While it is somewhat inconvenient to shift documents, images and some program files to a secondary drive, because of the small size of the SSD, that is a relatively minor issue. If you can afford a larger SSD get one.
In twenty years of computer maintenance/building/upgrade this is the single most notable upgrade I have ever seen in terms of an obvious and indisputable speed bump.
Expensive as SSDs are, this was a lot less expensive than building a new i7 machine.

OCZ Technology 120 GB Solid 2 Series Solid State Drive (SSD) OCZSSD2-2SLD120G Review

Pro's:
Good value for money. Performance is great on sequential reads, and good for sequential writes. Drive supports Trim & is Firmware upgradeable.
My system boots a lot fast and most apps open significantly faster (i.e.: In ~1/4 of the time). I have 2 of these drives in a RAID 0 array and can get sustained sequential reads of 440Mb/s with burst read xfers of >730Mb/s (measured using HD_Speed from steelbytes)
Con's:
Random reads are very slow and random writes are actually quite a bit slower then my WD Black SATA drives, but then again these are 'entry level' drives.
Other:
The following are not OCZ issues, but related to SSD technology in general...
The write longevity of MLC based drives is a big question and until there have been drives out there for 3-5yrs, we won't know how reliable they will be once 'aged'.
SSD drives are still an immature technology and OS support is not where it needs to be for the masses. If you put >1 drive in a RAID set the Trim function WILL NOT WORK. - Meaning you will need to manually run Garbage collection on a monthly basis to keep performance optimal. The need to manually 'tune' the OS to reduce writes is a burden that will cause issues for the non-tech savvy buyers. - The newer OS's should detect an SSD and make all the appropriate changes automatically (disable Defrag & System protection on SSD drives, Move Swapfile off SSD, stopping windows search, etc, etc).
Bottom Line:
I do recommend these drives for those who are buying on a budget as they are good value, have solid reliability, and will significantly improve performance over mechanical disk drives.

128GB RunCore Pro IV 1.8" PATA ZIF SSD Solid State Drive for Macbook Air Rev. A
I called my local apple store (chestnut hill ma) to ask if they could upgrade the hard drive in my MacBook Air and they told me that it was not possible. I did not agree and after some more questioning they finally stated that it was possible but they were not allowed to perform the upgrade themselves. They referred me to the nearest apple authorized repair center which was the computer loft in allston. While they didn't say it was impossible they did say "we cant do that". So here I am after some google-ing and a repair guide on ifixit this drive worked out AWESOME. It's not the fastest SSD on the block but it's twice the size of what I had and thats fine with me. The price is a little steep but thats how the ssd cookie crumbles. Overall the install was super easy and the drive came with a nice external enclosure and all the proper screws/cables/screwdriver etc....
