Klipsch Heresy III Walnut (Ea.) Heritage Series 3-Way Floorstanding Loudspeakers Review

Klipsch Heresy III Walnut (Ea.) Heritage Series 3-Way Floorstanding Loudspeakers
Average Reviews:

I have owned Heresy's since 1975, in 1985 I bought the Heresy II's and this year I bought the Heresy III's, they just keep getting better, they have a full presence and spatial displacement like nothing else in their price class. I got 20 years out of my last pair, this pair, probably the same, the handcrafted quality is apparent, the sound, even at low volumes is incredibly clear.
I kid you not folks, I am a Klipshophile, and for my "man cave" there are always a pair of Heresy's, the is no better crafted or sounding speaker for the money (albeit a lot) and few speakers at any price that can stand next to these wonderful speakers. As an aside, I always go with the Oiled Walnut.

First introduced in 1957, the Heresy, a three-way design, started out as a compact center channel speaker to accompany the Klipschorn in three-speaker stereo arrays. In 1985, Klipsch made some changes and improvements to this model and re-released it as the Heresy II. Today, Klipsch has given theHeresy III a bi-wire network, titanium diaphragm tweeter and larger magnet assembly. The midrange has moved from a phenolic to a titanium diaphragm. All of these changes result in improved tonal balance and increased output. In fact the Heresy III is two decibels louder (96 to 98dB), improving on its already high sensitivity. In addition to delivering smooth, dynamic and low distortion sound, the Heresy III has a high-qualityand rich walnut wood veneer finish! Klipsch XF48 Gloss Black Icon X Series 2-Way floorstanding speaker Review

Klipsch XF48 Gloss Black Icon X Series 2-Way floorstanding speaker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I never thought that I'd be able to afford speakers that had a retail cost of $2,500 a pair or $1,250 for each. That time finally came when I decided to replace my Polk setup. I ended up purchasing the Klipsch XF-48 towers that I use as my left and right speakers along with the matching XL-23 LCR center channel and two additional XL-23 LCR's as the surrounds on the XFS matching stands. I must say that they are absolutely incredible, even being used as stereo sound. They have a large range for frequency response, and handle the highs, mids, and lows extremely well. The highs aren't too bright and overall the speakers give out a warm sound that I love.
The XF-48 towers have a line-level input (digital coax cable) as well as a speaker-level input (speaker wire). Not many speakers give you this option but it's available on the XF-48's because each speaker has a built in 110-watt amplifier. I used the speaker-level input for about a week but ended up using the line-level input since I thought it sounded better and it also allowed for my receiver to not waste it's power on these speakers since they are already amplified.
Sound during music was great and even sounded better with movies. The design and looks of the speakers also helped in making my decision. They are very classy looking and don't take up as large of a space as many other floor standing speakers. I also like the blue light that glows on them. The only bad thing I can say about this speaker is that each speaker needs to be plugged into an outlet since they have a built in amplifier. If you know a store that you can demo these, please take a listen. I'm not sure what else I can say other than order these now. You'll be happy with your purchase, I know I am.

When designing the fully active XF-48 floorstander, our engineers refused to hold back. The speaker intelligently employs dual high-output fiberglass cone woofers with powerful neodymium motor structures and two passive radiators to unleash the kind of bass you hear and feel. But what makes this flat-panel speaker remarkably superior is an all-new, patent-pending Tractrix(R) Horn-loaded tweeter with XT(TM) technology. For over 60 years, horns have been the driving force behind our stunningly precise sound, and this latest design moves us farther ahead by allowing the slender XF-48 to deliver an extremely smooth response with constant directivity. You'll discover the XF-48's performance has but one rival: style. Its beautifully crafted aluminum extruded enclosure, featuring an anodized black-grain finish and high-gloss black accents, is the direct result of our engineers' quest for perfect balance. The entire Icon Series is performance art at its best, capturing the spirit of our past and pushing us into the future. It is a brilliant representation of how our products have evolved and remained desirable over time. After just one listen, the Icon sound will be imprinted in your consciousness forever.

Klipsch iFi Speaker System for iPod Review

Klipsch iFi Speaker System for iPod
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Klipsch iFi is everything an audiophile could ask for in a self-powered 2.1 $400 dollar system. Compatibility with the iPod is a merely a bonus!
I would like to respond to the previous user's review as it is honorable, but innocently false.
I also own the Klipsch Promedia 2.1's and the Klipsch iFi's, but I'm not sure why the previous user had such a difficult time getting his iFi to sound/image better than his Promedias, so let met male this clear: In no way shape or form is the Promedia 2.1 speaker system even remotely close to the quality, finesse and craftsmanship of the Klipsch iFi. The iFi achieves a far higher level of sound clarity and precision, while being more efficient, effective and exquisite. Klipsch tested the iFi to be almost three times louder at the respective maximum SPL while even maintaining a higher discipline of distortion than the Promedias 2.1's. Yes, three times louder with better sound quality. This does not even put them in the same category. That fact alone can whole heartily explain the price difference between them, but allow me to elaborate even further. The iFi's own RSX-3 satellite speakres provide much more impact and fuller and deeper midrange from a stronger, bigger and more capable aluminum driver. The 2.1's sats use a paper cone driver which is smaller and weaker and is held to the baffle with a cheap foam surround. The iFi employs a better, more elaborate titanium horn loaded tweeter that delivers far more sound with greater accuracy than the cheap plastic ones on the 2.1's. The RSX's are far more sophisticated speakers and deliver a sound that is sonically superior and louder than the proimedia satellites. I'm sorry to undermine the previous reviewer, but he is simply wrong.
The subwoofer even divides these two systems further. The 2.1's use a smaller 6.5" woofer with less power in a small enclosure that lacks both depth and proper porting as it emits gobs of port flutter when being pushed hard. The ifi `s subwoofer is a true beast with a full 10Hz lower frequency range, higher SPL, and far less distortion. Please don't get me wrong, the Klispch 2.1's are great speakers and that's exactly why the iFi is also a great system. Because it simply doest just offer the same experience with the addition of an iPod dock for three times the money. It offers you three times the sound quality and, conveniently has an iPod dock. I should also indicate that the remote, while slightly clumsy and small, is the best iPod speaker remote available do to its range.
I would not trade four promedia 2.1 sets for my iFi's
Here are pictures so you can clearly see I have both systems. You can also see the size difference of the subwoofer and the quality difference of the speakers.
Make no mistake, the iFi's trounce the Promeida 2.1's.

Thanks

Klipsch iGroove HG All-in-One iPod Shelf System Review

Klipsch iGroove HG All-in-One iPod Shelf System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The most important aspect of any speaker system is the fidelity with which it reproduces one's music. As one would expect from a true Hi-Fi speaker manufacturer, the Klipsch iGroove HG does a very nice job of reproducing high quality sound in a relatively compact space. Everything from Strauss to the Crystal Method to Led Zeppelin has sounded near-flawless in my testing, with only mild distortion of bass at high volume levels. Realistically you can't expect a small speaker system to match the range of a large floor-standing speaker set, but compared to the competing Bose, Altec and JBL systems, the Klipsch does a better job of reproducing a wide range of music with crisp highs and rich lows.
The only gripe I have about this system is the remote. Aside from being a little flimsy, you cannot control the iPod's menu with it. You can jump forward and backward, pause and play and raise or lower the volume, as well as powering the unit on or off. Still it's not enough to warrant a switch to others systems IMO. You will not find a better compact iPod Speaker system, especially not one which is compatible with a wide range of iPods from newer and older generations. Highly recommended.
-------------
~ 3 YEARS LATER: it's rare I get the chance to come back to a review of a product like this years later, but I want to post a couple more comments. First off, the unit is still in top shape. Very solidly built, no problems with speakers blowing out, or cracked parts after years of use (indoor and out). Last summer we used it quite a bit on our patio for lunchtime cookouts, with good success. Loud enough to keep you bathed in music, not loud enough to annoy your neighbors 30 yards away. The one annoyance that has come to bother me a little bit (but not change the rating) is that whenever you turn this thing on and hit play... it powers up, the iPod powers up, and the music starts playing at top volume, requiring you to turn it down right away. It has become habitual with me where i just start powering down the volume on the unit before the music starts. Not sure if this is a problem with my iPod (3G), but I doubt it. Either way if you're still looking at this as an option for a nice-sounding, reliable iPod speaker, it's still worth a look. That says something.

Klipsch RC-64 II Black Center Speaker Review

Klipsch RC-64 II Black Center Speaker
Average Reviews:

I upgraded from a very small and weak 50w center channel to this behemoth (50lb!) and couldn't be happier. The center channel is responsible for over half of today's tracks and nearly all of the dialogue (speaking in terms of movies) making it an important speaker to consider for anyone with a 'prosumer' or greater home theater setup. I chose this one over the less expensive RC-62 II to ensure I would not be able to distort it as it is capable of handling 200w of continuous power. I tested my speaker with Rambo with the volume set fairly high and sat back impressed and very much satisfied with my purchase. The speaker itself is built well and it certainly feels as though it is crafted with high quality materials. Its cabinet feels solid as the wood is both heavy and dense. Sound is crisp and detailed thanks to its horn and the 4 cerametallic woofers gyrate effortlessly under load--free of distortion. Finally, the speaker also looks as amazing as it sounds. I have mine deployed without the protective grille and for me, it adds to the character of my living room.

Klipsch RF-42 II Black (Ea) Floorstanding Speaker Review

Klipsch RF-42 II Black (Ea) Floorstanding Speaker

Already own rf-82's in a home theater suite and picked up rf-42's for 1/2 off. Was expecting the Klipsch "sound" for mids and highs but wasn't expecting 2 4.5 inch woofers to be this powerful! I'm running them with an old Technics receiver from the mid 80's at 65 watts/channel with just a cd player in the living room. I thought for sure I was going to have to pick up a new receiver and subwoofer to get any real bass but I was mistaken. The sub would be nice but now just an afterthought. You just need to give them some room behind for the ports to work properly. I have them about 18 inches from the wall and get plenty of nice bass, you can really feel the air from the port when you push them a bit. Overall I will definately reccommend these.....especially if space is an issue.

Klipsch Reference Series RF-52 - Left / right channel speaker - 100 Watt - 2-way - black (each) Review

Klipsch Reference Series RF-52 - Left / right channel speaker - 100 Watt - 2-way - black (each)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This speakers are nothing short of amazing, for the price they offer tremendous clarity and rock-solid bass. If you're looking for affordable hi-fi towers then look no more, this can rival much more expensive speakers and are a breeze to drive. Being extremely "sensitive" (96dB @ 2.83V / 1m) they can produce large amounts of sound with a relatively low amount of power (ideal if you wish to pair them with "true hi-fi" amps that are expensive when they break the 60 watt mark).
As for the sound goes, these speakers have sparkling highs that are effortlessly spread across the listening area thanks to the horn-loaded titanium dome tweeters. Midrange is vibrant, very present and smooth. Bass is accurate, fast and even earth-shattering. Stereo Imaging is very, very good, for the price is just marvelous; it's not pin-point accurate when compared to much more expensive speakers but for the price is fantastic. They have the ability to perform bass-intensive music with ease and are capable of resolving sonically stressing musical passages with not much effort. Expect these to suit almost every musical needs; from bass-crazy electronic music, to smooth, classical nuances and heavy metal, they will perform superbly.
The cons: even though this isn't exactly the speaker's fault, the horn-loaded tweeters can expose any roughness in the recording, some music suffering from the "loudness war" or that is poorly recorded might sound odd with these floorstanders. Also, their rear-firing port can be tad painful, since it needs at least 25-30 cms (9-11inches) to function perfectly. Owned these for almost a year now and those are the only complaints I have for now.
Amp recommendations: These speakers are really nice, Klipsch made a terrific job here, so please don't go cheap on the amplification. If you wish to go for "big" brands like Maratanz, Onkyo, Denon, Yamaha go ahead, they'll work, but I seriously recommend you look in the grounds of NAD, Rotel, Arcaim, etc. as they WILL sound much, much better. Since they can produce huge amounts of sound with relatively low wattage, true hi-fi amps (which usually don't roam the 100+ watts area, however, anywhere from 40 to 100 watts will do here) are a better way to go. I have a 40watt per channel NAD C315BEE and the whole setup sounds plain awesome, if you wish to go higher and can afford it, do it, the sound will usually increase a bit.
Overall, these speakers are fantastic for the price, as far as sub $600 floorstanders go this are amongst the best. If you wish great sound, earthshattering bass, 'crisp' highs, and lovely vocals then look no more, buy em' you wont regret em'.

I owned the original Klipsch Sub-12 (same model as Sub-12HG except minor cosmetics) and gave it to a friend a couple years ago. I've regretted doing that ever since and have been on the look-out for a powered sub with comparable quality at a competitive price. Needless to say, I haven't had much luck... until the Sub-12HG went on sale for $250!!! You can't find ANYTHING comparable for that price, or even around $300. I'm totally stoked and am going to love every minute I have this turned on. Perfect for music, movies, etc. You can control the amount of power the amp delivers to the sub (gain) and the frequency that is allowed to pass through the built in cross-over (adjustable from 40 to 120Hz). The auto-power switch is also a nice feature since you don't have to constantly hassle with turning off the sub when you are done.
All in all, I couldn't be happier with the quality of another sub in this price range... this is really a $500 sub and that's not MSRP crap! To top it all off, Klipsch offers a 5-year warranty on the sub, 2-year warranty on the BASH amplifier.

Klipsch Reference Series RW-10d - Subwoofer - 260 Watt - black ash Review

Klipsch Reference Series RW-10d - Subwoofer - 260 Watt - black ash
Average Reviews:

I purchased this subwoofer to replace my Pioneer 200 watt 12" subwoofer which has seen its better days. I can say I am completely satisfied with the way the RW-10d performs in conjunction with with my Denon AVR-1906 receiver and Klipsh surround speakers and Bose center speaker. It adds depth, without distortion, to both my theater and music experience. Whether I am watching a drama with low volume deep tones, like a car engine or a fast action movie with the rumble of jet engines and bombs exploding, with enough kick to feel the action, it gives one the feeling of being there. As for music, I like everything from soft jazz to classic rock. The RW-10d adds enough bass to give a realistic live performance sound experience. My past experience with subwoofers is that no one volume setting works for all applications. The handy LED adjustment on the top of the speaker cabinet make this easy with the touch of a couple buttons. I wasn't sure how I would like the vertical mounted speaker. For years most speaker manufactures subscribed to the down firing subs, but I find this arrangement much more suited for home use were sensitivity is more important than a deep hard thump of hip hop. I have now incorporated my old 200W Pioneer with a replacement speaker in my DJ business system and I get just that kick I need for heavy dance music. As for the Klipsh RW-10d the only con I can think of is the need to get out of my recliner to make an adjustment for music or theater listening. A remote would have been nice, even if it added another $20 or $30 to the price. If you want good clean sound, as Klipsh is known for, I highly recommend you add this to your system.

After using the Mirage speakers for hometheater and music listening, I have to give it high marks. I'm slightly hard of hearing and the clarity of the center and front speakers have helped my listening considerably. The hometheater experience has been nothing short of fantastic. The omnipolar speakers and the subwoofer fill my 20ft x 20ft with a 17 ft cathedral ceiling with sound that imerses you in the action of movies your viewing. I was concerned that the small speakers wouldn't be adequate for our family room because of its size however, the fact that they are omnipolar seems to have made the difference.

Klipsch ProMedia 4.1 THX Certified Computer 5-Speaker System (Black) Review

Klipsch ProMedia 4.1 THX Certified Computer 5-Speaker System (Black)
Average Reviews:

Sorry to be so Gushy...but I really LOVE these speakers. Having owned high-end speaker systems from Logitech, Labtech & Creative, I have always enjoyed good sound for games and music. As time has worn on, I began to play more music and fewer games on my PC. As a result I began looking for a quality 3-piece system to replace my 5-piece surround system.
I searched through all the companies I had purchased from before, when I stumbled across the Promedia 2.1's... and let me just say....
WOW!
... These speakers are CLEARLY head and shoulders above all other 3-piece systems - in both power and sound quality.
You MUST hear them to appreciate the difference.
PROS:
- Amazing sound: clear highs, full mid-range and rich tight bass.
- Power that rivals many home systems (200w-total)- Satellites (35w ea) - Subwoofer (130W)
- Convenient headphone and auxiliary input jacks.
- Convenient and separate controls for volume and bass.
- Very attractive casing.
- Very easy setup
- THX certified (which means you will hear things you won't hear on other speakers).
CONS:
* I cannot think of anything major, but a few drawbacks might be...
- Speaker system does not have a power switch on the satellite, it is located on the sub-woofer, which is not easy to get to (as it is typically tucked out of sight). However, the problem of shutdown is easily addressed with a power strip.
- [Costly,] compared to other systems (...though they are WELL worth the difference).
- Has horn tweeters, which are too "bright" for some folks... though I LOVE them.
Everything I play through these speakers sound great (DVD's, MP3's, Digital Camcorder movies, tape player etc.)I do not believe a better 3-piece system exists on the planet.
If you are a gamer or home theater enthusiast, I would encourage you to look at this systems "big brothers" (the 4.1 & 5.1 Promedia systems) as they are even more amazing (and pricier) for games and movies.
If you are in the market for a great speaker system I HIGHLY recommend Klipsch to you.

In this review: an in depth comparison of Klipsch Pro Media 2.1 THX, Logitech Z-2300 THX, Bose Soundock, Bose Companion 3's, Bose Companion 5's and Altec Lansing t-612

Thank you for taking the time to read this. I'd like to offer a review somewhat different than what you've read before. It's a long one so if you're looking for something quick, you may want to stop here. Otherwise hopefully you'll enjoy the perspective. My thanks go out to those who let us know who you are and what you do in your review, and how you use the system, it really makes a difference. It's important to know the story behind why someone is buying something and what they are looking to do, otherwise you get mismatched needs and solutions. My story begins during the first month of 2008, when I got myself into a bit of a speaker craze while searching for a sound solution for every room of my house. Three years ago I put my life's music collection in digital format on iTunes to the tune of over 5000 songs with perhaps the widest array of music than anyone else I know: Jazz, Hip-hop, R&B, trip hop, electronica, techno, country, audio books, Tony Robbins, metal, rock, dub, enigma type stuff, lounge, new-aje, world music, caribbean, Latin and on the list goes. So, when I say I've tested these speakers over a wide variety of music, you can take my word for it.
My demographic: Male, business owner (custom Italian leather journals, guest books and photo albums: see epica . com ) and hip-hop dancer choreographer, 30 years old, Southern California. Creative, very into pleasing the senses.
After growing up with stereo systems that catered to more bass than clarity, my initial goal was to discover what would be the most clear, best, space filling rich sound I could in each room of the house while still being incredibly aesthetically pleasing and unobtrusive at the best price. I wanted to turn up the volume and be amazed at what I heard without any distortion and I wanted to be thrilled at the lowest volumes as well. I wanted to feel like I was there, to have a music experience every time I turned something on. The best price part went out the door rather quickly.
So here's what I did: Apple sells a device called an Airport Express that among other things such as being a wireless router, also allows you to stream iTunes music to it wirelessly. All you have to do is plug in a stereo mini plug to one end and an audio source to another. Give it a name like living room and it appears in iTunes. you can have several of these devices all over the house. In the past I have always hooked up big stereos or shelf systems to it for sound but now in the age of tiny computer speakers and iPod doc systems, I've realized you can connect anything to it and have taken the experience to a whole new level. There are now 4 airport expresses in the house in different rooms along with an apple TV which also features this Airtunes feature in the living room, bedroom, second bedroom, kitchen and hallway... yes the hallway.
After having spent hours in the Apple Store and Best Buy listening to different sound docks and speakers with my iPhone and collection of music, I just decided to purchase and used every single unit that caught my interest with the decision that those which didn't give me everything I was looking for, I'd just return. (The manufacturers must love me.) Because what can you really tell about a speaker or sound system in a 30,000 foot warehouse with sound and people all around you? Are you kidding? Nothing. You've really got to setup these systems in your environment.
It's also important that you test your purchase in different places and positions all throughout your house. You won't believe the difference in sound from having say, a SounDock in your bathroom vs. a bedroom. Move the subwoofer around, adjust the bass on it, move the speakers, be creative. you'll surprise yourself.
Finally, a word about Bose. Of all the sound companies that I read reviews for, and I read about 400 before making a purchase, I have never seen such a contrasting fan base. You've got people who detest anything Bose and people who would buy it without listening to anything else. For the record I am neither of these people. I have owned Bose products in the past and enjoyed them as I have with other companies but was not biased towards or against them prior to purchase.
The Systems:
The Klipsch Prop-Media 2.1 speakers were my purchase. I was attracted to what I knew about the Brand, the subwoofer control on the actual satellite speaker and the $150 price point. I got them home and aesthetically I was just never really attracted to the speaker. My place has a very Asian-Zen and modern feel and these just kind of stood out in the wrong way wherever I placed them. But we're talking about sound so I looked past that. It's got a pretty large subwoofer, and the satellites where small enough to go anywhere. Klipsch does a great job with their horn tweeters and it really let's the highs soar. I tried them in my home office and bedroom for a week before I returned them. Why?
I loved that they were THX, which means there was no hissing whatsoever and they were dead quiet when music was shut off. I was also pleased and could not believe the power. These speakers have so much gain and get so loud, that I don't think full volume would even be tolerable to the human ear. But that was the thing. They seemed to distort at the higher volumes I tend to enjoy and didn't seem to fill a room at low volumes. The subwoofer is recommended to be set at 8 o'clock (very low) and if you adjust that any higher the bass is quite over powering. The sound coming from the Klipsch speakers was not a bad or poor sound, it was great, it was ridiculously powerful but it just wasn't the best sound I had heard for music. They ultimately went back to the store, and I give them a 4 star rating, but I'd be open to trying them in again in a different setting. I think I found them to be to cumbersome as well.
To their credit, RoomGroove wireless for $300, is their latest version of what I am doing with the airport express where you can link multiple room grooves up and they'll wireless send sound to each other. Points to them for finally getting something like this on the market.
Logitech Z-2300 THX: WOW. I was a little biased at first because I thought, Logitech? Really? The people who shine at making wireless mice and keyboards? How can they compare to these other big sound companies? What can they possibly bring to the table? Five stars no question. Here I had nothing to go on other than the $150 price point. I brought them home and unpacked. Ok, the subwoofer with this speaker set is not for the faint of heart. It is absolutely enormous and well suited for a larger office or larger room. It's got two attractive enough (without the grills) aluminum speakers, and a similar wired remote to the Bose only this has the subwoofer control on it (fortunately) and a headphone jack. (no external auxiliary mini plug)
Where to begin. This system has started off in and remains to this day in my office. At low volumes it is rich, deep, clear, and not overpowering in any respect. The music soars no matter what you're listening to. It's an absolute pleasure to sit before these speakers and I should start leaving them playing some sort of music more often because it really really sounds tremendous. And that's only the beginning.
Once the staff goes home and I can crank these up, every wall in the building shakes. The other bathrooms sound as though there is an earthquake and we should evacuate the building. I know it sounds like I'm a big bass person but this is the least of my desires. The clarity, much like the companion 5's just keeps getting richer and richer as you turn the volume up. Artist's vocals scream out at you and this system is the loudest of any I have heard. Interestingly it's also the most tolerable at high volume that I have heard as well.
I love the fact that it's got RCA jacks for speaker cables which allow you to easily extend them if you want them more than a few inches apart or want to place the subwoofer farther away than right at your feet. I love the power and clarity of these speakers, I love that the remote has the bass on the module and you don't have to adjust it behind the subwoofer. Five golden stars are easily awarded. Go Logitech.
Altec Lansing T-612 and Bose SounDock Portable:
Having tested the Harmon Kardon Sound Sticks, JBL On Stage, Klipsch iGroove, the Zeppelin monster, iHome, logitech pure fi and many others, these are the two I wound up bringing home.
Technology is great. We give birth to new ideas which create new ways we listen to music like iPods and iTunes, and that stimulates thought to a new level and we create devices made especially just for these things like the wide array of docking stations, something we had no need for in the past, and then we give birth to new ideas again and say wouldn't it be great to have our music collection on our phone and eliminate devices, and that get's created, and one company wins out over all the others and soon that creates a new problem: cell phone interference and shielding and that gives birth to the first of a new line of products: the iPhone safe Altec T-612. The first docking station to not be affected by sound interference from cell phones.
It worked well. I give it 5 stars for innovation, sound, it's own bass and treble controls on the unit that can be controlled by the remote control, size and a pretty unique look. (Which I am personally not attracted to) This purchase lasted 24 hours before it was returned. It was going to be used as a...Read more›
