Switch 8-PORT Gig Poe 2-SFP Review

I bought this switch as an upgrade from my 4-port 100MB hub... talk about a difference! File transfer speeds are way up and gaming lag way down. Everything works as advertised and I definitely recommend it. My only gripe is that the log-in screen sometimes requires a few refreshes to register my input. Other than that, this is a good little device for anyone wanting to get their feet wet with managed switches.

Works great for me althought the quality of the video is a little lacking. But overall does what it's suppose to do so I can't complain.

I purchased one of these over a year ago, and it has turned out well. I plugged it in and it worked (as an upgrade from an unmanaged SMC 10/100 * 16 port switch). I wanted to change some settings; after a few experiments I had it tweaked the way I wanted. After that, it has only gone down or restarted when power was out. Works fine with SMC (10/100), TPLink (10/100/1000), DLink (10/100), and NetGear (10/100) switches attached, as well as with 3Com (10/100), SMC (10/100), Intel (10/100/1000), Marvell (10/100/1000), Broadcom (10/100/1000), and some other ethernet NICs in my collection (mostly 10Mb/s). I'm using UTP Cat5E cables in general.
The management interface lacks the ability to name ports (so I need to keep a file somewhere else with the list of connected devices). Otherwise I'd rate it as very good. It includes features like counters (frame, byte, various errors per port), password protection (but only password!) for the management interface, forced speed/duplex per port, all of which work well for me. It also has features such as aggregation, VLAN, priority, jumbo frames, and other things I don't normally use (simple network with a mix of devices).
My biggest complaint would be that they used cheap fans (unhappily, it seems nearly everybody does). When I first got it, it was fairly quiet (you could hear the air flowing and some usual blade noise), but after several months the bearings started to go in the fans and now the rattling of the fans can be heard amongst all the other noise in my computer room (so it would be somewhere between obvious and obnoxious if I had it in an otherwise quiet room). I keep it clean, so there is no dust buildup on the fans. For what I paid for it when it was new, quality dual-ball-bearing fans would have been expected (even if this would have made it cost a few dollars more, it would have been worth it). None of the fans have failed yet, but as they continue to get louder, I'm looking for replacements.

Purchased this 1u KVM to control two servers in our small office. I simply mounted the unit, powered it, plugged the combo 1u keyboard/touchpad into the KVM and used the TRENDnet USB/VGA KVM Cable, 6 ft. (Male to Male) TK-CU06 (separately purchased) to connect between the servers and KVM. I did not even power off the servers to make the connections and the KVM recognized the servers and keyboard/mouse combo. Well worth the money and keeps the rack / server room nice and clean. No regrets buying this item.
I made sure this KVM took USB connection from the keyboard and mouse, as some of the other KVMs only took input from PS/2 connectors.
I did not realize that ONE VGA-like connector FROM the KVM controls the USB keyboard input to and took VGA output from the server. That was a nice / clean touch.
