The first thing you notice when the box shows up on your door is that it's very big. The cabinet feels very well constructed. The look of the face (with the cover removed) is a fo-carbin fiber look. Everything about this feels well made.
My pervious `home theater' had been a $250 system in a box (receiver, speakers, and sub). That old system had an 8 inch sub that was probably

Definitive Technology BP7006 120v Tower Speaker (Single, Right Channel, Black) Review

Definitive Technology BP7006 120v Tower Speaker (Single, Right Channel, Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If any mid-high range audio company does it right, it's Def Tech.
I bought these on 12/1/08 along with the Def Tech C/L/R 2300, plugged them in to my Yamaha HTR-5890 (130 watts per channel) and they sound INCREDIBLE. I bought them mainly for home theater, but i also listen to music, which sounds crystal clear.
The midrange and tweeter do an incredible job at capturing detailed sounds in movies that I never heard on my previous system. Voices from the center (which contains the exact same midrange, tweeter, and subwoofer that the 7006's do) sound like real voices; not someone talking in a tin can. The subwoofer picks up deep voices and other noises that any other center wouldn't. I highly recommend pairing the fronts and center for a real theater experience.
The 8" subwoofers produce very tight and accurate bass. I have the Sub Level knobs half way up and it is plenty loud. The only thing about the subs is they obviously don't hit the lows that a 10 or 12 can, but this is only noticeable when listening to rap music. For movies and other music, the subs are just perfect.
The speakers on the back of the bi-polar 7006's do a whole lot more than I thought they would. While listening to Every Word by Ercola (in 2 channel stereo) there were parts of the song where I thought my rears were on. I stood up and put my ear next to them, and they weren't. I have the fronts angled in so they are pointing at me while I'm on the couch, and in turn, the midrange and tweeter on the back of the speaker are angled out. This causes the sound to bounce off the front wall, then side walls, and eventually off the back walls. It really fills the whole room with sound, even in 2 channel stereo.
The 7006's are plenty loud and clear for my room (20'x15'). I am so satisfied with them that I don't see the need to upgrade (to the 7004's or 7002's) unless you have a bigger room. My next plan is to get a y-adapter along with two subwoofer cables to hook up the optional LFE jack. This will allow me to set a LFE cut off point on my receiver (and level), thus allowing me to control the bass even more so.
If you are looking in the price range, I suggest Def Tech. It truly creates an amazing home theater experience with life like room filling sound and accurate, tight bass.
EDIT: I have had these speakers for over a week now, and they keep sounding better and better every day. Most high end speakers such as these require a "break-in" period, anywhere between 40 and 60 hours of modest play time. The most noticeable change is definitely in the subwoofers. They are hitting deeper and cleaner than when I first got them. I will keep you updated when I hook up the LFE channel.

Velodyne MicroVee 6.5-Inch Powered Subwoofer (Black) Review

Velodyne MicroVee 6.5-Inch Powered Subwoofer (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This sub is result of a top manufacturer of subwoofers among the retail brands (not Internet Direct), who decides to make the smallest possible sub that is still usable. This sub has the features and quality you expect in a high end audiophile sub costing a thousand dollars or more. Velodyne knows subs...they make subs from very low end ones to flagship models costing thousands. And they sound good too.
So here comes the MicroVee. It's a NINE INCH cube. This thing is **tiny** (look at the gallery photos I posted). It has a tiny 6.5 inch high excursion driver with a heavy duty 4 lb magnet structure. 1000W of power, and a solid aluminum case with dual passive radiators. (Not to get too technical...but a passive radiator is basically a speaker driver without voicecoil. Having one enables a speaker design to be have more bass output in the deepest frequencies, giving it the characteristic that it behaves like a larger bass reflex/ported cabinet). The thing weighs 20lbs which is pretty hefty. In general it has pretty serious hardware which explains why it costs as much as some subs that are large as small refrigerators. It initially was announced with a MSRP of $999, which I can envision prompted some people to roll around on the floor laughing when they first read about it. (note: street price may be a lot less than that). The first thing they probably pointed out is that the spec reads the sub has +/-3dB down to 38Hz, which means the sub is not really putting out tones that are considered very deep bass. Most (*much* larger) subs of this price range can go as deep as 20Hz which is more felt than heard. The whole point of a subwoofer is to reproduce frequencies which are below that of normal speakers. Heck a lot of bookshelf speakers are rated down to 50Hz so 38Hz limit is not very impressive. And secondly, does anybody really need such a small sub? Velodyne's own Minivee line is only slightly larger and puts out deeper bass for about the same price or less. By the way, I measured the frequency response and they are exactly right, the -3dB point is pretty much 38Hz, it's probably down -10dB around 33Hz or so. So it would seem based on the specs that this sub is pretty pointless, and you should not even consider it especially given its high price.
Well, let me explain why I bought one. I see this sub as a subwoofer you want to use for a small secondary system, one that you put into a small den, kitchen, workout room, or with a computer system. If you look at some of the computer speakers that cost say, $200 for a 2.1 system, you'll realize that the subs in those systems are pretty much rubbish. Boomy muddy sounding bass mostly is the order the day. This is Velodyne's answer to those subs....you can have a sub as small as those cheap "computer subs", but with all the quality that a high end sub can offer. It does a good job filling in the bass that's missing from the very small satellite cube speakers, and it has the controls and set of inputs and outputs so you can integrate it into any system, from your $150 Tivoli radio, to a set of $500 NHT M-00 active pro monitors, to your $100 Logitech computer speakers or even a full blown home theater system.
I was on a mission to reduce my desk clutter, but I wanted to get serious about the sound, so I bought compact high quality active ($1300) professional monitors but I wanted a bit more kick in the bass. I didn't want a sub that took up all the floor space around my desk, and I didn't want just any sub that would drown my high quality speakers with muddy bass. So this sub was the perfect candidate. I didn't need a sub that can reproduce the feeling of an earthquake, I just wanted more foundation in the bass, it just adds a bit more bass and dynamics to the sound where the speakers start to strain in the bass. And I am happy, it does exactly that, but with good sound quality that compares to what I get with my larger sub that I run in my main home theater (I own a SVS brand sub in my other system...a well known high value brand).
This sub is very flexible. It has high level inputs to connect directly to your stereo amp, but has low level inputs with adjustable and defeatable crossover to connect to your subwoofer output on your receiver. It also has pass-through mini-jacks so you can connect your active computer speakers, and an 1/8" input minijack (with an included cable) that works easily with your iPod, computer or laptop. The other thing I like is that the front grill is actually perforated metal but covered with fabric, so if you actually kick the front grille, your foot won't go through the driver. Important if you stuff this sub under your desk.
If you don't need the smallest sub possible, then I definitely think you should look at some of the larger offerings as they offer more bass for your (probably less) money. But if you truly need a sub this small, this is as good as they come. For an alternative that is slightly larger, look at the MiniVee line, the Paradigm Ultracube or Definite Technology Supercube III which will outperform this sub, but adds an inch or two to each dimension in size. I also note that Energy has a model called ESW-M6 which is even smaller with slightly inferior specs.
All in all, I'm glad that this product exists. It gives you an option to get extra bass extension from your desktop or small room system with all the quality that you can expect from a "long termer" company like Velodyne who specializes in subs.

I was debating the LSi bookself speakers vs the RTi series so I decided to go for the upgrade. I looked at both in the stores and the LSi feels and sounds much more solid and full. I matched this with LSiC center channel and in wall speakers to match for 7.1 setup.
Amazon was great as usual!

I have an all Harman Audio (Harman Kardon, JBL, Infinity mix) home theater system. I am picky so (in any system) the sound MUST be accurate, clean, clear, and impressive. Every element adds to a "perfect" system, but this SUB4000 makes ALL the difference in the world. I am pushing my sound with a Harman Kardon AVR-347. On the front L/R channels I have 5" JBL Control Monitors, the center channel is an AMAZING Infinity TSS CENTER4000, the surround L/R channels are 5" JBL Control Monitors, and of course the SUB4000 for my powered woofer. I have had 3 other powered subs over the years and this one is the best, no question! The SUB4000 will take anything you throw at it and is impressive. The RABOS works very well, but for those that want to stay "in control" you can bypass the RABOS and use it just like any other sub. The power is insane! 400 watts is alot of juice for one 12" sub so watching movies or listening to good music is super impressive. I could go on and on but won't. Bottom line, this subwoofer is WELL worth the investment. I hope you get one and enjoy it as much as I have. Cheers!

Bazooka BTA10250D BT Series 10-Inch 250-Watt Class D Amplified Tube Review

Bazooka BTA10250D BT Series 10-Inch 250-Watt Class D Amplified Tube
Average Reviews:

I cannot put into words how much this thing surpassed my expectations. I have had smaller and less powerful bass tubes before so I expected something like those. This thing really does such a good job that people think I have a box with a couple of 12's in the trunk.
I actually had a much higher end system priced out and was almost ready to pull the trigger, but I'm trying to save money (and space and weight in the car) so I begun looking into these. I like the fact that it is removeable if I want the entire trunk space available.
The sound is awesome and unexpected for this size of sub/enclosure/power. It sounds great down to 30 hz which is my sweet spot in base. I highly recommend getting the remote for better control of the bass from the drivers seat. It does not have a bass boost centered around a certain frequency like they normally do, but rather a level control (like an amp gain adjust) and a low pass crossover control. Both are handy when you have a song with lots of bass that you need to turn it down or a song with higher bass that you need to adjust the crossover.
Normally when I'm by myself or with one passenger I do leave the seatback down that is directly in front of the tube. It looks nice plus it sounds better. I did tests at 30/40 hz and there is a 3.5 Db loss in sound level when I close up the rear seat so I prefer it down. They recommend that you "corner load" the sub but honestly I prefer to have it facing forward. The way I have it mounted I can switch it around easily if I want to anyway. During install make sure you leave plenty of extra length to all the cables (RCA, turn on, power, ground, remote) so that you can move it around if you ever want/need to. I hid all the extra cable under the rear carpet for a clean looking install.

Introducing Bazooka's first ever Class D amplified tubes. With 250 watts of pure digital power and optional speaker level outputs, these new Amplified Tubes are their most powerful and best sounding yet.

BT Amplified Bass Tubes The new amplified Bazooka subwoofers feature the legendary patented Bass Tubes enclosure design, but with a twist. These units are completely self-contained bass monsters. Available in 100-Watt BTL or 250-Watt Class D amplifier configurations, the new amplified Bazooka subwoofers are the true solution to the common automobile interior problem of "not enough space for bass."
A Bazooka subwoofer adds the bass, clarity, and realism that your system is missing with absolutely no modifications to your car, its warranty, or its original audio system. If you are leasing your car, there is no better way to upgrade your stereo system than by adding a Bazooka subwoofer.
The BTA10250D The BTA10250D features an eight-inch dual voice coil subwoofer. As with all Bazooka Bass Tubes enclosures, it's optimized for corner loading. The Bass Tubes enclosure's port and woofer are on the same plane and in close proximity for maximum corner-loading results. And, just like a megaphone amplifies a cheerleader's voice, the corner of your car amplifies the concentrated bass output of the Bass Tubes enclosure.
BTA10250D Features
Grill The grill is both decorative and protective, preventing the Subwoofer from accidental damage from other items, such as golf clubs, groceries or book bags that might be tossed into the cargo area where the Bazooka Woofers are typically mounted.
Woofer Bazooka's highly efficent, customized woofers are specifically designed and reinforced for use in the Bazooka Bass Tubes enclosure, producing a pure piston action and generating the maximum bass output possible.
Edge Roll All Bazooka Woofers used in Bass Tubes enclosures feature large, high excursion, lightweight foam edge rolls to maximize their efficiency and overall bass output.
Tube Enclosure A tube is a natural pressure vessel, and Bass is about pressure. The patented Bass Tubes enclosure creates a natural, uniform, hydraulic transfer of the Bass energy produced by the woofer.
Port The port opening between the Tube Enclosure and the Port Tube allows for efficient transfer of bass. Bass Tubes enclosures utilize "Bass Reflex" technology to take advantage of both the forward and backward of the woofer, wasting no bass energy.
Port Tube The bass energy created by both the forward and backward motion of the woofer are time aligned so that 100% of the woofer's output is concentrated into one output point.
Acoustic Damping Fiber The acoustic damping material helps lower the resonance of the enclosure and simulates an increased air space.
Integrated Amplifier The integrated amplifiers are performance matched to the specific woofers used in Bass Tubes enclosures to ensure that every watt of power is efficiently turned into bass performance. Having the amplifier integrated into the enclosure simplifies installation and eliminates power loss.
Corner Loading Bass Tubes enclosures are specifically designed to take advantage of the natural amplification characteristics that occur when a subwoofer is placed into the corner of a vehicle. The corner acts like a megaphone, substantially increasing bass performance.

Double Down While this single Amplified Tube will surely deliver the goods, if just want more bass, simply connect a Passive Tube (sold separately) to the optional speaker level output and double your bass output.
Easy Install The BTA10250D comes with straps to keep the sub securely mounted, while still making removal quick and easy if you need even more cargo room. Optional Chrome-Plated UMS Brackets give a flashier look, as well as a more secure, permanent mounting when removal isn't a problem.

I bought this Klipsch rpw-10 really unsure of what to expect siince I could not find any reviews on it anywhere. I bought it hoping to have some good bass to match my Klipsch quintet 3 speakers. This sub is very good, I have it set to about 1/3 on the dial and it is almost too much. You can really feel the impact from movies, xbox, and music. SO far I am very happy with it. I used to use a Sony 120watt sub and the Klipsch RPW-10 is way more powerfull. I highly recommend this sub. I have it in a 20x14 room and it easily fills the room with a great, deep bass. This subwoofer is made to produce QUALITY sound. Some reviews here and elsewhere complain that it does not pump out high amounts of booming base.
This is not a car sub. It is a home theater sub. It produces very clean and tight base, at respectable levels, even when playing action movies.
I much rather have realistic base than simply a big box that pumps out low frequency vibration.
I've tested many subs, and for this price point, you cannot get better quality.
That said, if you have a very large room, you may have to turn the volume up high to get the same level that cheaper subs put out.
Also, placement within the room is everything when it comes to subs.
Don't hesitate: If you can get this for 350-450, buy it.

Polk Audio PSW505 12-Inch Powered Subwoofer (Single, Black) Review

Polk Audio PSW505 12-Inch Powered Subwoofer (Single, Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Bass is clear, deep, oh, and LOUD! If you really want your HT to sound like an IMAX theater, then I whole-heartedly recommend this sub. It fills in the low end seamlessly. It also takes the burden of reproducing low lows off of your other speakers (which aren't nearly as capable as the PSW505). This is not a cheap "rumble box". The first movie I watched with this sub connected is Peter Jackson's "King Kong". The raptor/bronto chase through the gully is off the hook! The 30-ton bronto's gallop will set up a standing wave in your intestinal tract!!! But loud does not mean muddy or rumbly with the 505. I was pushing the sub to about 50% volume and I thought my house's windows may break. And like I said, that was only at about 50% volume. Besides, you want to be a good neighbor and not max this thing out cuz it can be heard clearly from a good 50 feet away. I find that it performs exceedingly well at about 15% of its capability in my medium/small sided living room. At normal/reasonable volumes, this sub recreates the super lows that truly make the difference between listening pleasure and listening rapture. No HT is truly complete without a sub and this one fits the bill to a tee.
a) I definitely WOULDN'T recommend this product if you live in a dorm/apt/condo/townhouse. This thing has the sonic capability to really anger your neighbors.
b) This sub is one of the few in its price range that actually has an LFE input (Low Frequency Effects) in addition to LL & speaker-level. I you didn't know, LFE & Line-Level (LL) inputs both use an RCA connector. The difference is that the LFE channel carries only low freqs from source whereas LL carries the entire sound spectrum. The LFE goes straight to your sub's amp whereas LL first goes through your sub's built-in crossover and then from there to your sub's amp. If you plug LL into the LFE input, you'll be asking the sub reproduce the full sound spectrum. Not what you want, of course. Probably not a big deal whether you use one or the other. The Polk's built-in crossover is fine, i'm sure, but I'd rather do the crossing-over at the A/V unit level.
c) Apparently, a good powered sub has an ON/OFF/AUTO switch, a 180-degree phase-change switch, a volume control, a cross-over level control (this control is not functional if you are using the LFE), a LL input (or two), an LFE input, and a Left/Right channel speaker-level input and corresponding outputs (for a total of 8 speaker wire connectors).
d) The unit seems very well built with what feels like sturdy wood (or MDF) and is somewhat heavy. Which is a good thing. It feels reassuringly sturdy/massive.
e) Would I buy this sub again? Well, I've discovered that many of the wonderful items that are for sale at Amazon are no longer being produced. IE, they are discontinued by the manufacturer. Do a product search at polk.com and you will no find this sub (you can do a search in the product support section to find its corresponding literature pdf). I just guess that that is the nature of the beast. Great products sooner or later get replaced with even newer & greater products. The older and merely "great" (not "greater") products still need to get cleared out of the inventory so they wind up at amazon.com or other e-tail sites. So, despite the fact that this sub is no longer in production, no longer supported, and is probably a year or two or three (or more) old... would I still buy it again? HELL YES!

JBL ES150PBK 300-Watt Powered 10" Subwoofer - Black Review

JBL ES150PBK 300-Watt Powered 10 Subwoofer - Black

I wondered if this subwoofer would be powerful enough for my 25 x 20 foot room with vaulted ceiling. And, it absolutely is. When the levels are set to high it shakes the entire room with clear, powerful bass.
I did, however, have one initial negative experience when the woofer was inexplicably buzzing. Never having owned a subwoofer before, I just assumed that I hadn't paid enough for a quality subwoofer and that it couldn't handle the power. However, I decided to take the speaker apart to see if there was somthing loose. Sure enough, there was a small wire that was looped onto the speaker that was causing the buzzing. I simply tucked it back away from the speaker and completely fixed the problem. The difference was truly like night and day. Now the speaker is awesome and can handle any power I throw at it.
I suppose this does raise the question of why JBL was sloppy enough to allow the wire to hit the speaker?? Was this a rare thing or something that happens often with this price-level of JBL speakers?? I don't know. But everything's fine now and I'm thrilled with the speaker.

JBL ES250PBK 400-Watt High-Powered 12-Inch Subwoofer - Black Review

I originally was going to order the ES150PBk 200watt sub-woofer, but it was not going to be shipped until mid April. So I went with JBL's 300watt RMS (500Watt Peak) model. I paid $353.00 with a $30.00 off (for applying for an Amazon credit card) and this brought the price down to $323.00 with "free" super saver delivery. This unit will shake your living room during explosions in action movies (check out Pearl Harbor and Live Free, Die Young) and provides a nice, tight bass in music. I only have it turned up to just passed the mid-point & that is very loud. It is well designed, attractive, and you get more than your money's worth. You can not go wrong for this price! By the way, it does come with a removable black grill that is not pictured. I researched several other sub-woofers and none came close to providing the specs that this one does at this price and from such a well-established company. Last, but not least, JBL has been making speakers since the 1930's and is at the forefront of loudspeakers for the music industry. Because I am a tech savvy musician, I am well aware of JBL's reputation. So, in closing, rest assured that you are getting an outstanding product, through a trusted, reliable and reputable company at an outstanding price!!!
