I own it! What a marvelous laptop! Touch sensitive, sexy looking and wow, look
at that screen. Worth every penny! HP came through this time. Don't waste your
time on other outdated models, with the 'Z' for last letter. They are the outdated
model. This is a fantastic laptop, good price point and HP assurance program.
You can't go wrong with this baby. I highly recommend a buy. Wow, wow, wow!!!

I purchased this for my wife [for Christmas]. When it came in, I opened it to inspect it for damages and to insure that it wasn't "D.O.A". Needless to say when my wife saw it, she feel in love instantaneously!!! She loved the compact size of a "net book", raved over the speed of this little devil, and the screen resolution as she put it "is to die for" [no more tilting the screen to get a clear view!]. Other than the actual HD size [160, which can be slightly supplemented by adding a sdhdc card], I have no complaints. But for her this isn't all that important... she prefer using flash drives anyway. If you are thinking about upgrading you laptop or notebook... the life book is the way to go!!! It has the size and character of a net-vertible, the dvd rw of a notebook, and the speed some home computers would love to have!!! As a side note... hearing "access has been granted" when using the biometric security feature [finger print] is a very big plus!!! no more log on /passwords to remember!!! This is a pretty good computer... so good I think I will get one of these little babies for myself!

HP Pavilion dv7-4290us 17.3-Inch Entertainment Notebook PC (Silver) Review

HP Pavilion dv7-4290us 17.3-Inch Entertainment Notebook PC (Silver)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this laptop for my wife. Got it through the HP Web Store using my corporate discount. Paid about $1050 including 2 day shipping. Only have had it for 1 day but I have been on it all day long. Havent had any heating issues, laptop is very quiet and the rare instance when the fan did kick in while running some applications, it was still quiet enough. Had bought her a CTO (cutom order) Pink Sony Vaio EB Series which had a horrible touchpad that wouldnt respond right, speaker volume was super low that made them useless at full volume level, screen was very washed out and had horrible viewing angles, and was sluggish with a Core i3 370M, 4gb RAM, ATI Radeon HD 5650. Only good thing about it is that Sony has a 30 day 100% money back guarantee and I used it, only thing is, if you buy online you gotta ship it back to them at your own expense, cant take to store.
Pros:
Lates SandyBridge Core i7 Processor
Large 1TB hard drive, although restore partition has over 30gb reserved
BluRay Disk Player
6GB or RAM (not sure why people complain about it not coming with 8GB since they knew this before they bought)
Large Capacity Battery (will give you at least over 4 hours which is great)
Keyboard is just fine (people complain about keyboard design)
Large Touch Pad (very responsive and accurate)
Dedicated Video Card capable of running any game at least at medium settings
Screen is very large, very bright, very colorful, very sweet for the price point
Webcam is very clear and good resolution
Cons:
Buttons on TouchPad are dificult to use (difficult to click and hold if you want to drag also)
Scrolling by using Gestures (2 fingers side by side) is not as easy as it should be, would rather be able to drag finger on the edge of touch pad
Not sure what Beats audio is all about but sound is ok for laptop. Triple Bass Reflex Subwoofer is a gimmic, does nothing to increase bass, it outputs regular muffled sound, not bass.
No USB 3.0 for a new laptop (But I knew this before I bought, so not really a complaint but a wish)
Wish they made power plug to laptop at a 90 degree angle, but instead its straight and a little longer than typical (Previous HP had to replace power cord 4 times because tip of adapter gets too much tension and breaks) On a plus side, power cord is longer than typical one so tension is less of a concern.
Conclusion:
Cant beat this laptop for the price I got for! It is for my wife so I needed something with longer battery life, with all the bells and wistles, and with the latest technology to last her a few years. I personally would have gone with MSI GT660 on Newegg for [...] after rebate since I am a gamer, but thats too much of a "guy" laptop for her. She wanted a Mac Book Pro 13" from Microcenter for $999 but couldnt stoop down to the level of a Core 2 Duo Processor and a much inferior Graphics Card, only 250gb Hard Drive and no BluRay. For the same price after Taxes, there was no way in hell I was going for a Mac. If this laptops gives me problems as time progresses, then I will update the review to reflect the TRUE performance of a broken-in laptop.

This is a great PC. Its quiet, and can handle all the games we through at it (Black OPs etc). Everything functions well, and as advertised. The only complain I might have is that the keyboard is really small (but manageable).
For some wondering about the infamous power cord issue, mine actually came with the correct power cord out of the box. So, hopefully this means that this has been fixed.
Rock on!

ASUS Eee Slate EP121-1A010M 12.1-Inch Tablet PC Review

ASUS Eee Slate EP121-1A010M 12.1-Inch Tablet PC
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had the Asus Slate for about a week now, and I've put it through its paces. Overall, I'm really impressed.
Summary:
Pros
+ It's like it was was made for OneNote - stylus input and handwriting recognition are incredible
+ Screen is very bright and crisp, great viewing angles
+ Touch input experience is good as well, supports pinch zoom, etc
+ Fast, responsive, boots quick, runs Win7 apps well, good experience with office suite
+ Email and Web browsing is surprisingly easy with either touch or stylus input
+ Can handle some higher end games, though not a gaming machine
Neutral
= Was expecting it to be too heavy but was pleasantly surprised that is was not
= Was expecting the Win7 touch experience to be terrible, but it wasn't bad
= Is expensive but not bad if you compare it to a laptop with a core i5 and active digitizer
Cons
- Battery life is dismal
- Password entry is not fun, wish it had a fingerprint reader Important tip - make sure to install the optional firmware update to the digitizer from Windows Update.Details:
I've been keeping an eye out for a machine like this for years to use at work. I don't like using laptops to take notes. The flipped up screen and noise of typing is distracting to a conversation. This machine offers an experience like using pen and paper with all the advantages of electronic notes.
The combination of a good digitizer, the great handwriting recognition and palm reject of OneNote, and the general design of the tablet itself help make it the best machine I've seen for taking notes. The tablet is relatively heavy but still quite comfortable to hold in the palm of my hand or crook of my arm. It also rests well on a table. The stylus pops out of the tablet itself so you aren't forced to use a case (I don't). The tablet is quite thin and there is a solid border for gripping that keeps you from inadvertently touching the screen.
The screen itself looks really good - very bright and crisp. It will likely be the first thing you notice when you pick it up. Touch interface is also snappier than I expected, though the pinch zoom is not quite as smooth as the iPhone/iPad.
I was surprised with the email and browsing experience (use Outlook, Gmail, and Firefox). Clicking on links and small icons really isn't as hard as I was expecting, the touch keyboard works ok, and windows picks up handwriting pretty well. You aren't going to write a page long email easily, but there is always the ability to use a bluetooth or usb keyboard and mouse if needed.
Windows apps work fine, similar experience to a core i5 laptop. Gaming isn't too bad. Civ5 works well enough, and I would expect most puzzle and strategy games to work. Will not do as well on games where you worry about fps. Videos look great, again much like a core i5 laptop.
Wish the battery life were better. On the highest brightness setting, I get about 3hrs. I can squeeze 4-5hrs if I lower it a bit. This means I have to charge it half way through the day, which is a pain.
Password entry is also not great. You have to use the touch keyboard, and for security reasons it doesn't light up the keys. Makes it easy to screw up. Wish the tablet had a fingerprint reader or some other support for easier password entry.Overall, I am very happy with this tablet. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a machine to use at work or school (or at home if you use windows apps or the office suite a lot).Observation:
I've been following the marketing from ASUS for this tablet, and I think they have it wrong. They've been comparing it to an iPad. That'd be like Toyota comparing the Prius to a sports car. It doesn't make sense. Both the Asus Slate and iPad are fun in their own way, but serve very different purposes. Use the right tool for the task.

Pros: I bought one of these about a week ago for $399.00 and $12 shipping. For the money, I have not seen anything else that can compare in terms of build-quality and performance. Not too much bloat-ware (thanks Lenovo!). Decent performance from the ultra low voltage processor. Much better than the earlier single core versions and yet, only 10 watts used by the cpu. Awesome battery life, up to 8 hours. The Intel 4500 integrated graphics is adequate for my purposes. In ubuntu 10.10, I was able to enable desktop effects for some cool esthetics with no problem. Not enough graphics power for any demanding 3-D stuff. All the functions I have used in Ubuntu so far have worked without issue. I love the feel of the keyboard. The large multi-touch enabled track-pad is awesome. Despite some errors on Amazon, this unit actually weighs in at only 3.8 lbs, very light on the lap. Build quality is very good. I detect no flex in the body at all. I like the mat-black finish (no finger-prints) and the simplicity of design. It is quite thin, but does not feel fragile. I really like the red L-E-D's on the palm rest and on top of the lid where the "i" in ThinkPad is dotted. It's the little things. :)
Cons: The built-in web-cam is only a .3 mega-pixel. Most budget laptops these days are at least 1.3 mega-pixel. I have not yet used the webcam, so cant speak to how well it works at this point. Windows 7 can be a bit sluggish if you are running a virus scan, but otherwise works just fine. There is no CD/DVD drive in this model. I know this in advance, so hesitate to list it as a con. These days, you can use a flash drive to do anything you used to with a CD ROM anyway.
Other thougts: My wife has borrowed this thing from me once and already wants one for herself to replace the Dell Latitude D830 she has been using. I have no complaints at all and would recommend to anyone who needs a lightweight notebook and does not play a lot of 3-D games.
