I've read a lot of XFX,HIS, MSI, Sapphire, etc... 6950 was able to flash into a 6970. I wasn't sure if the VisionTek brand was capable of doing this but I give it a shot anyways. I've successfully unlock it. I upgraded from a EVGA 8800gt SuperClock flashed to a SSC then flashed to a 9800 gt ssc. I'm familiar with the process and it's fairly easy. The upgrade significantly improve all my games especially Crysis and I'm currently running eyefinity on a single card.

So far this card is running well in my machine and plays everything with ease, buy one now if you are gaming on a single monitor and want to spend less than [...] !
First my only negative would be that this card seems to run a little hot, 43 C at idle in the 70 C range when gaming and over 80 C when running a stress test. From what I have read this is cool however comparted to some of the HD 6950 2GB refernce cards and yet this can be addressed if you like me like to keep you're hardware cool. Youc an do so by upgrading your case like I did and by using software like MSI Afterburner to adjust the fan which I also did, the only downside is that it becomes a bit loud in my opinion. Keep in mind I say this as someone who has never owned a top model graphics card like an AMD 69xx or an Nvidia x80 before, so heat and loud fans my be the norm, as I have nothing to compare it against. For instance my previous two cards were a Radeon HD 5770 I got last year and an NVIDIA 8600 GT I bought in 2008.
With all that aside for the moeny after the rebate this card is an unbeatable value and an out of this world performer. I can play EVERY game I have on the highest setting with AA at 1920x1080 and get well over 30 FPS on everything, most running over 60 FPS.
Some bencharking results I got with 3D MARK VANTAGE and 3D MARK 11 are as follows,
VANTAGE
3DMark Score 17262.15 3DMarks
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Graphics Score 17530.79
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CPU Score 16503.48
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------3D MARK 11
3DMark Score P4799
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Graphics score 4672
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Physics Score 5463
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Combined Score 4909Overall I would suggest buying this if you have a case with good airflow, do not mind a little fan noise and want a great single card solution for single monitor gaming. If you are going to run a 3 monitor set up or think you will in the future then get the 2GB version of the HD 6950 or a 6970.
Asus M4A87TD/USB3 Board
4 GB ADATA DDR3 1333
AMD PII 1055t X6 at stock 2.8 clock
Antec Basiq plus 550W power
NZXT Phantom Case
Update 3/21/2011.
Today I installed and ran the Unigine Hevan Benchmark and the results were as follows:
32.6 FPS with all high settings, normal tesselation and 8x AA.
46.1 FPS with all high settings, normal tesselation and no AA.
These are great results for a very demmanding benchmark which gave the Ati 5xxx line a hard time due to their poor tesseliation performance and as you can see the AMD 6xxx line in particular, my HD 6950 live up to AMD's claim to have made mjor improvements to the tesselation peromance of their new cards.
Whatever you buy XFX makes great products and their customer support is top notch and legendary among the community of computer gamers so you can not go wrong with this card at less than [...]

Awesome in every way except over clocking . the included software from asus doesn't install properly if you flash it to the 6970 bios(some sort of bios read error?) I can't comment on stock performance because i impatiently flashed it to 6970 levels the moment it came out of the box. Overall a good value. It uses very little power when not gaming and the performance is great i may add a second card to my sytem later but for now this delivers very good frame rates in all games. it comes in at a 7.9 out of 7.9 in windows experinace index so I guess that means it's a good card

I was using a Nvidia GTX 580 and swapped it out for a couple of these in crossfire.
I got these when I found out about the flash trick to unlock the shaders. A google search should get you the info you need to easily do this. I would also suggest checking forums to see the current state of doing this in case AMD revises cards to eliminate this trick before buying.
I game on a 30" running at 2560x1600 and these cards just let me play through Dead Space 2 maxed smooth as butter. I also recently played through Fear and Fear 2 maxed without a problem. Overall I am very happy with the performance in crossfire and the 2GB of memory helps especially at higher resolutions.
I do have a couple of complaints though. The shrouds on these cards do not allow the top card to get enough air on a lot of motherboards. Since they are boxy with no curves there is only a small gap between the cards. This causes the top card to be much warmer than the other card. If the shroud had a slant like Nvidia cards it wouldn't be as much of a problem. My other complaint is that there are many driver problems around if you check the forums. Nvidia has its problems too but lately AMD's driver team seems to be out to lunch or something.
Overall I would recommend this card due to the value and performance presented but do some research be aware of the current state of things before purchasing.

No one seems to be purchasing this item, so I thought I should at least inform those wishing to buy a Radeon HD 6950 that this card works great. In fact, they all do right now because they are all the same card with different manufacturer's stickers on the top of them. They all have the exact same design, were all produced by AMD, same clock speeds, memory speeds, shader counts, etc.
And yes, this card, at least mine, also was easily unlocked to run as a 6970 card. It's a nice $70 dollar bonus if you willing to take the 5 minutes necessary to read up on it and complete the rather trivial task. For those trying, I will add that apparently MSI locks the bios and you'll have to do the extra bios unlock step to actual flash it to a 6970. You'll know what that means if you actually plan on doing the bios upgrade on this chip.
The MSI card does not have as good of a warranty as some other brands such as XFX, which gives a limited lifetime warranty, but it isn't the worst either.
Really, there's nothing else to say about this card. The rest of my current build is four years old and I can still run almost all modern games at high settings now at 1080P res. Can't way to get the rest of my stuff this week.
Conclusion: Don't be afraid to buy this brand if you are looking for a 6950. They have been making high end parts for a while and it is not a no-name brand. Also, as said, they are all actually produced by AMD and are identical RIGHT NOW. This will change in the future, (as the ability to unlock almost certainly will too,)but right now I think this card is as good as any other 6950 out there and it's in stock, whereas many of the others aren't.
Edit: Card is still performing well two weeks in. PC Vantage Mark score of 22,000 for card after very slight overclock. As I hinted in the review above, AMD has announced plans to release a "revised" 6950 card. As of January 15th, 2011, you likely only have 2 weeks or so left to buy the "old" version of these cards, aka, 6970's that have been sold as 6950's to meet market demand. If you are looking to buy one of these to get a 6970 for a bargain, do so in a hurry. It's still a great card either way, but the added value proposition is going to be disappearing soon.
