(More customer reviews)I like netbooks and typically go for the smaller versions. The Hercules eCafe is a little larger than my Asus eeePC or my HP mini. I first thought it'd be a pain to carry around in my purse but so far, I've not really noticed a big difference EXCEPT for the benefits of having a slightly larger netbook.
1. The screen size is larger (obviously) but the extra real estate really makes it much more functional for me. I find myself only scrolling up and down and much less left and right. I don't move windows around as much and it's just easier to use because of that.
2. The keyboard is incredibly easier to use. On my other netbooks I feel like I'm typing on a mini-sized keyboard (which they are). On this one, my fingers are a little closer together but I feel like I can type at almost regular speed and without having to check where my fingers are all the time. The typos are less frequent. SO much better.
3. The color on the screen is on par with other netbooks I've seen. Acceptable.
4. One of my favorite features is the eCafe features. It is a nice, simple interface that gets you to email and browsing and other goodies quickly. They're like shortcuts with a little more style and functionality.
5. Wireless (wifi) connectivity is TERRIFIC! There's a little button you slide to connect to a local wireless network, which then shows you all available networks and if they're locked or public and the signal strength, and then you connect. It's very simple. And there is a light that lights up when you are connected. Nice visual indicator.
6. The design on the top is more gender-neutral than some I've seen. I share this with other family members so the design is a good fit. Mine is blue with a silhouette of bamboo I think. No flowers. I'm all for flowers but it likely wouldn't go over well with my son.
7. This little thing has a great selection of ports available. The two USB ports are handy and so is the memory card slot. One of my other netbooks only has 1 USB port.
8. The office suite that is preloaded on this is really very functional. When I first opened the word processing program (which isn't Word) I thought it was Microsoft Word. They're compatible with Office programs, too. And they're FREE.
9. THE CAMERA is pretty darned good. I shot video and photos of myself and talked with my nephew on Skype. The quality was way better than expected.
Now the two things that bug me a little.
1. It's heavier. Yes, it's bigger so it's going to be heavier. But it is noticeably "chunkier" and heftier when lifting with one hand. Not a deal breaker for me though.
2. The keys are louder when typing. Also, not a dealbreaker.
Netbooks are a big change from a laptop. They take some getting used to. However, this is more like a mini-laptop than a netbook in my opinion. The free online storage is a plus, too.
