Ok, fist of all I would just like to praise amazon's customer support. About a month ago I had ordered a Toshiba Qosmio x505 laptop. After three weeks the fan for the video card failed and I could no longer use the laptop. By mistake I called Toshiba instead of Amazon and they had me send it in. About a week later I got a call and was told that they didn't have the part and it needed to be ordered. Of course they also told me that the part would not be in until January 7th, 2011.... Two months later!!! I called amazon and told them what happened. They let me send my toshiba back to them and exchange for something different. So I chose to spend a tiny bit more and get this one. The two laptops are almost identical in specs execpt for the video card and the style/finish of the laptop. I really like this one due to the brushed aluminum casing. If it's one thing I cannot stand, it's fingerprints all over my laptop. I have yet to see any problems with the wifi, like some other people have had. The capacitive screen/touchpad is pretty cool... not sure how much use it will get, but it's not why I bought the laptop.
Pro's:
-Core i7
-ATI 5850 2GB Video Card!!! (Runs Starcraft 2 great!)
-4GB Ram (2,2,0,0) There are 4 slots for ram! I can upgrade to 8 GB with two more 2GB sticks of RAM.
-Fingerprint reader.
-Beautiful screen. I was curious why they boasted 220 nit screen, until I saw it at full brightness... it's amazing.
-Aluminum casing
-The hinges on the screen... this may sound like an odd one but when you have a big screen like that and flimsy hinges that thing will sway up and down with just a little bump of the table. This one however has very solid hinges that keep your screen sturdy and in place.
Cons:
-No backlit keyboard... not too terrible but when you are using it for games at night it really can come in handy.

I was apprehensive about replacing my seven year old HP laptop. It served me well but had some hiccups that I had become accustomed to. The thought of adapting to Windows 7, Office 2007 and new hardware besides was daunting.
I couldn't be happier! Windows 7 is a dream and the laptop itself is really an easy machine to work with and no idiosyncracies. The price was a complete bargain! I did my market research and ASUS was listed as the best buy for the money, but I didn't expect to be so happy! I had heard that the touch pad and keyboard were not responsive and that people had trouble using the camera, etc because the instructions weren't included. I found everything simple to use and intuitive. I would highly reccomend this computer to everyone, not just the budget conscious.

If you are on the fence about a Windows Home Server - don't be. At this price you can get a good amount of storage that is easily expandable. You have the option of installing additional plugins for the server to allow things like more extensive web pages and monitoring. The stock tools included with WHS are plenty for most average users, and there is a great user community out there for support and advice. This particular machine runs wonderfully and you can't really beat the price.

This computer can do everything I can imagine and more. The screen is big and bright and you're up and running out of the box in just a few minutes. There's only 1 major problem for me and that's the touchpad. I am a heavy Adobe Photoshop user and I simply cannot hold down the left mouse button and use the touchpad. It's very stiff. I've tried changing every setting, but it's not a setting issue. It's simply hard to depress and make selections. I purchased a Bamboo touch for $35 at Best Buy and it is just too awkward to use. The salesperson at Sam's told me he didn't like the touchpad and I read other reviews that said the same thing, but I couldn't imagine a touchpad would be a make or break item for such a nice laptop - but it is. So, this is not going to be the computer for me. Otherwise it is just great.

Wacom Intuos4 Extra Large Pen Tablet Review

Wacom Intuos4 Extra Large Pen Tablet
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been using the intuos family line for 6 years now. I'm a digital concept and 3d artist so a wacom tablet or cintiq is the only choice. I've owned 2 intuos2's(6x8 & 9x12) , 1 intuos3 12x19 and 1 intuos4 XL (which i returned because of major design flaws).
Note, I'm a heavy user so I spend 6-10 hours per workday painting in Photoshop, modeling in Maya, and concept design in Painter. This review is to help artists decide if it's worth upgrading to the newest intuos for their workspace. Money is not an issue since this is used extensively in my career field.PROS
- More sensitivity, doubling from 1024 to a whopping 2048 levels. It's a nice improvement when sketching very light construction lines, ie "ghosting". Not a huge help for painting in Photoshop, since I use opacity and flow to adjust my paint layer applications.
-Scroll wheel is a nice addition and offers good control when zooming.
-OLED screen for shortcuts is also a nice addition in case you forget the express key assignments.
-Like it's intuos3 predecessor, the pen is ergonomic and comfortable.
-Pen holder has good functionality because it now holds your spare nibs. Convenient, since you will need to replace nibs like crazy.
-Widescreen formats now for all sizes.CONS
- The nibs wear out to an annoying chiseled point within hours, and completely gone in days! If you continue to paint with a worn out nib, you will scratch the surface so don't be cheap. This has been the most common problem since most forums have very disgruntled artists spending extra money stocking up on overpriced nibs. $1-2 per plastic nib that costs them 1 penny to make. Just type "intuos4 nib wear" and you can read for yourself. This is due to the new paper-like friction surface, which is nice but not necessary. I've never worn out my intuos2 or intuos3 nibs in 6 years!
- As a result, the surface sheet also wears out. Depending which area you use the most, you'll soon get uneven surfacing throughout. So while one side has the friction feel, another area is worn out smooth. So you'll have to replace the sheet within a year. I've yet to replace my intuos2 or intuos3 sheets.
-The express keys on one side is a great idea, but they are TOO FIRM. They also are placed awkwardly, are too small, and sizes are too similar. I find them uncomfortable and useless since I rarely look down while working since it's about speed and productivity in the motion picture/gaming industry. Plus having wrist issues in the past, these buttons are not ergonomic at all.
-Express key area is a fingerprint magnet. If you continually clean off that area, you will slowly produce little scratches.
-If your unlucky, you'll receive a defective pen. Check out YouTube, there's a lot of customers that have received defective pens. Such as "Tip triggered without actual pressure problem" and "Tip looseness problem"
-Bad customer support for intuos4 from Wacom. The design flaws i mentioned above have been reviewed by Wacom forum reps on their Wacom Europe forums. It seems they are in total denial of any design flaws. They have offered cheap ploys that blame the customer for the nib wear and bad advice such as taping paper onto a $400-700 piece of hardware to cover up their mistakes. SAD but true.FINAL THOUGHTS
-I like the intuos4, don't get me wrong. But I feel the major design flaws negate the upgrade from intuos3. If you are a heavy user, this can get annoying and tedious to deal with. If you are a new or light user, this will not affect you as much, since most positive reviews I've read are from new or light users.
-However if you are thinking about upgrading from intuos2, an intuos3 or intuos4 is a must. The ergonomic intuos3 or intuos4 pen alone makes it a necessary upgrade.
-With the intuos3, they EVENTUALLY fixed some issues. My intuos3 12x19 is widescreen and the surface surrounding the work area is completely smooth, as opposed to the tacky plastic from 1st generation intuos3's. I pray Wacom will address these intuos4 issues realistically. Until they do, I'll be using my intuos3!!

This is by far the most powerful and stable PSU you can buy. The PSU is configured to be able to support a massive power requirement with ease. Dedicated 6 and 8 pin powere leads for dual SLI with expandability, dual 8 pin motherboard power in addition to the 24 pin main power, 8 sata power on two lines and enough std power connectors to fill all the drive bays, run fan controlers, water cooling, and more without breaking a sweat.
I have this PSU powereing a Asus P6X58D Premium motherboard with an I7 980X cpu, EVGA 480 Hydro copper video card, cooled by a swiftech H20-320 water cooling system, 12GB of Patriot Secto-7 ram, Creative X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty edition soundcard and front panel, Liteon DVD/CD RW, Aerocool 2000 Touch fan controler, dual fan ram cooler, Crucial 300 128GB SSD OS drive, and a WD 1TB Black edition data drive. I have so much headroom left with the PC P&C T12W that I could double the contents of my system and still have room to grow. It has provided reliable clean power even when expreimenting with moderate overclocking on the CPU and ram. I have built 3 systems all with PC P&C PSU's because of their dependability and durability. The first 510 SLI system is 11 years old and going strong. I highly recommend this PSU to anyone with a high end multi GPU or hardrive system. You can't beat the efficiency and dependability in a high load environment.

Dell Inspiron Mini Duo 3487FNT Convertible Laptop/Tablet (Foggy Night) Review

Average Reviews:

I got this a week ago and have been playing with it nonstop since.
There are three things you need to be aware of when purchasing this:
1) The screen is even smaller than on most netbooks because of the flip design. The versatility more than makes up for it though.
2) The battery is not removable and is good for about 3 hours.
3) Windows 7 Home Premium only likes to view drives on other machines running Windows 7. My home PC was running Vista. It could look at and access the drives on the Duo; but the Dou will only look at drives in it's Homegroup. Only Windows 7 supports homegroups. I upgraded my desktop to Windows 7 Home Premium and now they network amazingly well. Setup was a snap.
I have thick fingers, but I haven't found that I need to use the stylus (bought separately) with it. The keyboard is well laid out. The touch screen took a little getting used to. Voice recognition works very well in a quiet environment. Between the three, I haven't even bothered to install the wireless mouse I got to use with it.
It boots up quickly. It's nice and fast. It has a lot less bloatware than most machines come with.
I was surprized at how solid it feels because it's so tiny. The entire unit looks and feels well made.
It's small and light enough to go anywhere; but powerful enough to do real computing. It's a great second computer. It syncs easily with my desktop now that both run W7. I was able to share my internal and external drives between both machines, including the DVD burner in my desktop.

Well I saw this tv on sale and I just couldn't let it slide. I had been looking for a second tv mainly for ps3 and computer use. I currently own a 23" samsung px2370 which is amazing however its just not big enough for me so I decided to try out this bad boy. First off I went to go check it out at my local box store and it looked great 3mil:1 contrast, 2.4 ms response, led backlit, usb 2.0, and its super slim with a nice cabinet. The main thing I noticed when I was at the store was how nice and uniformed the color looked and the angles of the tv were great. I bought the tv off of amazon straight through them with free 3-5 day shipping I believe it was and I actually received it in two days. I plugged in the tv and connected my playstation and head on it seems okay but not what I remember seeing in the box store and the viewing angles are horrible. If I am not right in front of the tv the colors almost look washed or worn out. I did some research on it and figured maybe it was something I was doing wrong maybe I had to calibrate the screen or something? No sir, unfortunately what I found out was that LG put different panels in these tv's some have what are called IPS Panels (IPS Panels are the nicer panels and is what I saw in the box store) and some have VA Panels (what I bought on Amazon, not saying its Amazon's fault its just LG not putting the same panels in all the le5300's). I am very displeased with the way LG could do this. Thats like porsche making there cars with hyundai parts. It just doesn't make sense that they could do that, I mean there should be some kind of regulations council to prevent companies from doing stuff like this.I am now hoping that Amazon will let me return the tv and refund me all my money. I would have love to gotten the one at the box store when they had their sale, given it was about 50 bucks more but at least I would have known I was getting the one I wanted. I also found out that the tvs that have the IPS Panels have a W in the serial number or if you have a magnify glass or a camera you can zoom in and see that the pixels of the IPS panels are shaped like this < while the VA panels are shaped like squares. The IPS panels are superior, offer better viewing angels, and better coloring. So all in all this tv is a steal if you can get it with IPS panel.

I bought the 128GB version of this drive. As has been said by many, performance boost is dramatic. I use this drive with my MacBook Pro, running Mac OS X and Windows XP (via Fusion) at the same time. I think this upgrade is even more worthwhile than adding RAM to the computer.
The feature that differentiates this drive from other internal ssd drives is that this drive also has a USB connector, so you can use it as an external drive. This helps tremendously when you clone your original drive onto this drive. You don't have to purchase a drive enclosure just to do the cloning.

If you are looking at building a system from scratch - this eval of the various i7 cores is for you. I will cover the performance aspects, best bang for the buck, pitfalls, power suppplies, and OEM options. If you are looking at the i7-990 then for some reason known only to you - you have a need for performance. All I intend to show is where money buys the most performance.
The i7 975 and the i7 990 are meant for a powerhouse application. Depending on what you plan to do with the system you are building, consider the best value for your money. The fastest processor won't always build the fastest system - consider this example:
Right now (3/2011) the I7 975 is about 400 bucks less than the I7990, which happens to sum to be the price of an NVIDIA GTX480 graphics card from evga or several other vendors (approximately) - so you could buy an I7 975 and equip the system with a GTX480 graphics card (with 480 graphics processors in parallel + 4 system cores) , 1.5 gb of video ram on card - basically 2 earlier cards SLI'ed together into JUST ONE double wide slot in terms of performance) -- or on the other hand, if you want to max out your computational performance, and not your well balanced system performance, the i7990 is the only way to go as it has 150% of the 4 cores (6 cores in the 990) which gives you roughly 1.5 times the computational processor performance, so long as your motherboard and chipset can get the data into and out of the processor fast enough! So the i975 is 4 processor cores and 480 graphics cores, the i990 is 6 processor cores and 1 graphics core. For 400 dollars more you only added 2 cores to the system if its primary job is graphics (of course it could be a database machine in which case RAM is where its at, but that's a different fruit of a cpu)
So looking at this chip for a fixed price (1K) in a system, you could get a slower 4core chip and a gtx480 card with 480 graphics cores designed to work with adobe cs5 (photoshop/premiere pro/ anything in the cs5 ultra package) and nearly every game, - or just get the high performing 990 core with 1.5 times the compute power of the 975 and no graphics system for almost exactly the same price (3/2011). Put simply 1K buys 480 graphics cores + 4 system cores, or could buy (today's pricing) 6 system cores and on board graphics (which nobody would do!)
Before you make the decision - first think of your use - is the machine going to be an all out video proceessing blu ray presser - then the GTX480 makes a very nice setup with the 975. If you want a killer game machine it's on the edge- sure you need the power of the 990 chip, but the graphics rendering of the 975+GTX480 can run circles around a 990 w/ onboard graphics (of course you would never use an onboard graphics card, but I'm trying to get the prices equal - realistically if you want an all out gaming system, the 990+ gtx480 card would be a killer machine at 1400 bucks in cpu+graphics spending, but you can do an awful lot with the gtx480 by itself due to the cuda core parallel processing capability of your graphics card running cuda-aware software.Example - I bought a system with a 975 chip and standard "gtx class" (probably a 260 - but it was OEMed) to render 1 hour of avchd into a blu ray disc came back at 24 hours of runtime. Ouch. Hope the lights stay on- beter invest in a good ups. (out of curiousity without the gtx260 that same oem system with a stock 9800 graphics quoted 2.5 weeks of processing to do the same job - double ouch) - then putting in the gtx 480, yanking the OEM 250 watt power supply and using a corsair 1KW (NEVER skimp on power no matter what you are building - 1KW would be the minimum if you have any kind of graphics installed) then the numbers came in - that same job - 1 hr of avchd at 24mbps down to blu ray took 27 minutes with the GTX480, down from a full day on a GTX260 oem board. Speed improvement for 400 bucks (when I bought the gtx480 that was the price - i'm sure it is cheaper now) was 48 times faster on the same system processor.
Just a minor note, the corsair supply gave me 4 sli power connectors, the GTX480 used 3 of them to run it (most sli capable graphics cards only need 1 sli connector to the power supply), so don't plan to SLI 2 GTX480s (which *is* possible upwards of 1500w/240VAC) unless you get 1500W of dc power and 6 sli cords to run just 2 GTX480s, which you really don't need, 27 minutes to do an hour production is more than twice as fast as realtime, so I'm already getting it done in less time than the final output with just one GTX480.
If you are budget driven and want a well balanced system consider for a minute the i7 975 3.33 ghz chip combined with the GTX 480's *combined* performance alongside the GTX990 chip and some run of the mill graphics system. You'll see that 1K dollars buys you more performance using a slower processsor and a faster graphics subsystem (which weighs in heavier than the motherboard, so some good strapping to the cage is mandatory) in any graphics intensive application (e.g. non database - there you want 24GB of ram)
Of course, if money is absolutely no object, get the 990 and the GTX480 and you'll be more than thrilled with the system performance, but don't be surprised when the windows 7 benchmark is still 5.9. It's a balancing act to make a machine that has a fast disk (yor first limiter in the system benchmark) and a fast proc, fast memory, and fast graphics - it just works out that way when allocating the funds to build a system (and I've built several dozen since intel announced the 8086). When you concentrate on disk speed, system cache files on ramdiscs for improved performance, and high end graphics your total system score won't disappoint you with a 5.9 limited by the disk drive after spending 2400 bucks in hardware, when 1500 bucks will get a 6.9 system performance score. Even then - if its a gaming system, a 6.9 means nothing because that benchmark is for general office use - high performance gaming systems MUST have the top of the line graphics, as much processor as you can afford, yet you don't need as much main memory as you might think since so much is done on the graphics processor card. You do however need FAST main memory, usually overclocked. Game systems are a tad unbalanced when you allocate your money to get the best frame rate in a particular game.
To summaraize, yes, today this is the latest fastest biggest thing from intel - but in 9 months it won't be - somthing will be faster, more cores, etc. Assuming you are building a system from scratch today, then this is the best you can squeeze out, but intel has something around the corner (who knows - the i9-999Z chip? maybe) that will obsolete your processor. My point is simply don't dump cash down the processor hole unless you have a limitless supply - think balacned system and see where nvidia is heading - the gtx480 came out a while back and they may have a 490 out by now - for me I'm happy with the 480, but I also considered the 460 - the selling point on the 480 was the video workstation performance. And while Intel is preparing the I9-999Z 16 core chip, don't forget that Nvidia will be right behind them with their own motherboard that takes the TZG-999 graphics subsystem with 1000 cores. You can't stop the progess of technology - just buy what makes sense for your application.
Before buying the fastest anything in a computer system, consider what will be the first limiter to the system's overall performance - disk cache? a fan? a power supply? Sometimes spending just 89 bucks will push you into the next performance bracket by fixing the limiting element to the machine. Most people use 2TB 7200RPM drives - and they max out at 5.9 - people who use 10Krpm drives get better disk performance and slightly better system performance. Is it worth it? Depends on your disk cache file - ram is cheap today with the 4G sticks of ddr3 comming down in price, which allows 24G systems - setup the machine to allocate 10G of ram to disk cache and suddenly that 10Krpm disk isn't working as hard if you have 10G of a 24G system cacheing disk requests. There are alternatives you must pick through in designing a system for your purpose. I've barely scratched the surface talking about cpu, graphics, and ram.
Lastly, never believe any benchmark - build the system for your intended purpose - mine happened to be video editing - yours may be gaming - the two share similar goals, but if you want a database machine, you don't need a 480 core graphics card. Plan the system build and never forget the chipset you choose and the motherboard - they will come into the equation next with usb 3.0 comming out, e-sata, etc. If the chipset can't deliver data from main memory into the 4 or 6 core processor, then they will yield performance numbers so close you'll wonder why the extra 2 cores aren't working. It's an overloaded motherboard chipset.
Building your computer from scratch can be fun and exciting. You will, however, end up spending more to build it from scratch than buying a GOOD oem system and adding practical enhancers to it. Never plan to steal the o/s off the OEM system and transfer it to your homebuit machine because windows 7 won't let you do that with their security safegurards and anti-piracy (i.e. they sell win 7 ultimate to HP for say $75 but sell it to the computer store for $175, but HP commits to buy 100,000 coppies per year, while the store commits to buy 10. The coppy installed in your OEM HP system is branded to only run on HP systems, while the 175 buck version in the store will run on any cpu, however once you brand it to a motherboard, you are stuck with that combination - change mobo's because you want a new chipset and suddenly your screen goes black and your system naggs you that it's non-genuine and you need to pay 175 to microsoft. That prevents you from getting the good deals OEM makers do on motherboards, processors, and most importantly - the o/s. I guarantee you HP does not pay what amazon does for the I7 990, which is a great 6 core chip.

I needed a new laptop for development work while I'm on the go. After comparing many of the 18.4" models I came across the Fujitsu.
I am very satisfied. It isn't heavy in the least, and is definitely light enough to travel with. The screen is huge
and the processor and ram accommodate even the most demanding of development tasks (I still plan on upgrading the RAM to the
8gb Max.)And the price point is one that can't be beat especially for those of us who don't really delve into too much hard core gaming.
I would definitely recommend it.

The four stars here are for the notebook itself, not for the one-star seller (Link-Tronics Memory). I describe that awful experience last.
The laptop has been fast and reliable. I had the memory upgraded to 8GB. I bought it refurbished, though I would never have known that. But I saved hundreds over the price of new.
The screen is bright and the display is very good. I tend to remote into it from another machine with a big monitor, so I don't use that part very often. It is fast enough, and the Windows 7 OS has never crashed or locked up. I run Oracle Virtual Boxes that are running Windows 2008 R2 Server, SharePoint Server and SQL Server, and I give each VM 4GB of memory. Plenty of horsepower for a development machine.
As for the seller, Link-Tronics Memory: They shipped the notebook without a power supply. I paid for expedited shipping, but seller would not overnight power supply. Said it cost too much. Then they shipped wrong power supply. Finally shipped right part, but the order took about 2 weeks to complete. Seems like this was all due to carelessness and unwillingness by them to fix their mistake. The notebook is fantastic, but I won't do business with Link-Tronics Memory again.

I ordered the 2TB model on 6/3 it arrived 6/8. Instead of 2TB, 2GB ram, I received a cheaper model 500GB, 1GB ram. Ritz Camera was selling both versions on Amazon. They will not honor their commitment to sell me what I paid for. I offered to wait until it came in stock, I asked if I could have a rain check, they said no to both. They gave me a refund. I won't buy from them again.
Update: Today 7/26 Ritz Camera called me to tell me that the 2 TB Server was back in stock. They told me I could now re-order it. I explained that the price has gone up by $195. I also found it for much less money on the web. I asked if they would honor the original price, she said no.
Here is the great part of this: she asked me to remove my negative comments from Amazon, as I no longer wanted the item!
I told her if they honored the original price I would be happy to make the purchase. She said she would check on that. Two days later... still not heard from Ritz Camera.
