(More customer reviews)I just received this scanner. I've been collecting a stack of documents to scan and finally ran out of excuses with its arrival. I settled in for a long evening of unpleasantness. I put the first batch of 6 pages into the hopper, pressed the Scan button expecting a sloooowww, painful grind. But....? Each sheet whipped through effortlessly! Both sides of the double sided sheets scanned on a single pass! Everything was oriented correctly and automatically and the legibility was excellent. How did they DO this? I'm used to scanning taking so long I continually forget what I'm doing before I'm done. This is a whole new experience. Suddenly, I'm seeing the real possiblity of reducing all my file cabinets to a few CDs in my lifetime. Wow.
This is about my 5th scanner (HP, Epson previously) but the very first one to take the agony out of scanning. And it's such a cute little machine. I never would have believed it could accomplish such a masterful job. It also handles legal sized documents - you fold the document in half, it scans both sides at once and marries them back together!
Thank heavens they brought this out for the Mac.

The Fujitsu ScanSnap S510M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for Macs lets you easily convert your paper archives into a searchable digital library of PDFs. With an easy one-touch PDF creation process, nothing could be simpler: The scanner will automatically distinguish between color documents and black and white ones, automatically recognize the size of each page, automatically straighten images, and automatically delete blank pages. I use the S1500 at home and recently added the fi6110 in my office. I find the 1500 to be a bit faster. Data and other records are secure, easily backed up, and can be copied, printed, moved or sent from your computer. I had an older scanner that this one replace and was used to waiting a bit for items to get scanned but not anymore. Both color and black and white work well. It did ok with pictures as well.

(More customer reviews)I bought the scanner because i wanted to image all of my historical tax records, medical records, etc. I have had it for approximately 2 weeks and have scanned about 2000 pages. It has functioned flawlessly in scanning duplex, color and B & W. The Rack2Filer software is pretty good as well and I am happy that I bought it because it allows me to organize the scans into Libraries, Cabinets & Binders. I'm running all of this on a Win2K box with 750MB of memory - so it's no screaming machine.
I have never owned a scanner but would certantly recommend it to anyone who has a need for a fast, reliable (so far) duplex sheet fed compact scanner!

I'm assuming you're looking at this product because it's Mac compatible, relatively portable, rates fast, and looks cool so I won't say much about that, except for the scan speed.
I've been using this scanner for about a month with my 13" MacBook running Snow Leopard, OS X10.6.4, and have scanned a few hundred pages, everything from receipts, bank statements, kids' doodles, color and B&W, thin and thick paper, single and multiple pages. I used basically the default settings, changing only simplex/duplex scans. There are YouTube videos available that demonstrate the P150's scan speed. The fastest speeds are for B&W at 200 dpi. If you have mixed B&W and color documents and set the scanner to automatically determine which type of document it is scanning, it can be significantly slower. Using only one USB connection, 200 dpi, with auto-detect color, paper size, and skip blank pages, I get only 4 or 5 pages per minute. Plus, it takes about 4-5 seconds from pressing Start before the pages begin to feed. OCR processing is very fast, though. Usually done within seconds after the last page has been scanned. It comes with a second USB chord you can use simultaneously, presumably to speed scanning, but I haven't notice any difference.
I had to return the first one I received because the automatic document feeder was defective. It grabbed multiple pages at least 1/3 of the time. i read another bad review on amazon by someone who had the same problem. However, the replacement unit hasn't given me any significant problems so far. So if you're getting a lot of misfeeds, send it back for a replacement.
The included software loaded easily, worked flawlessly, and is easy to use. The built-in Lite version of the scan software worked fine, too. While not super light, it's small and light enough to carry in your briefcase once in awhile. Plus, it's easy to put away if you need some desk space.
The only complaint I have is that there's no document bin to catch your documents after they've been scanned. They just slide out of the front bottom. The document feeder is pretty sensitive so If there's an obstruction, slight uneven resistance can cause the scan to skew or distort. I suppose placing it at the edge of a desk and having a basket catch the sheets as they come out my work.

--Acts in stand-alone mode (no drivers required)
--Fast, quiet, duplexes
--"Skip blank page" works fine
--Feeds almost anything. I'm archiving family records now--feeds almost anything up to 100-year-old letters, card stock, stacks of photos.
--TWAIN and ISIS drivers, that the Fujitsu does not have
--Paper path is less angled than an all-in-one ADF's 180 degrees.
--Easy to clear paper jam
--Deskew generally works, but not always. I scan a stack of veiably-sized items, so I often do not use the paper guides. It's pretty gppd about keeping things straight.
Bad points:
--Does not like onionskin paper
--Takes 2 USB ports unless I want to pay $35 for an AC adapter
--Black-and-white (1 bit) mode does not really like anything except crisp black test. Typewritten text, of which I have reams, does not come in well, I scan in grayscale or color. Have not played with the sensitivity
--No output tray
--I'm not at all pleased with the quality of scanned photos, but I suppose that's to be expected. I have an Epson Perfection for that.
--Scanner software will handle only a few variations. Button can be assigned only to one
--Will only scan to 14" long
Have not tried OCR
I like it. I'm glad I bought it.

(More customer reviews)This scanner is great for managing your home office paperwork and some pictures. Is not a great picture scanner but does an OK job for emailing stuff and Facebook type stuff. I would recommend a flatbed scanner for saving higher quality pictures.
The software packaged with the scanner is top notch. You can scan a document and add it to an existing document stack with no problem. The stack can be a pdf document too. The software adopts the My Documents structure (not sure if it does so automatically or if its a setting) and allows you to scan directly to particular folder.
Just scratching the surface of this product but so far I am very satisfied.

This isnt a scanner for the 21century, it scans like an 80s scanner, I mean both the balck and white and color images it produced were blurred and I had to jack up resolution to 400dpi for colors to get a roughly good image which is unacceptable due to the big file size. I returned it and demanded my money back and bought a small scanner from other manufacturer.

BTW, the difference between the ScanSnap S300 and S1300 is simple.
S1300 works with PC and MAC. S300 only works with PC. Get the S1300.
It scans FAST and PDFs pop up on my PC immediately. It does OCR in the background while the PC is idle.
Great, great quality. My old Epson Perfection 1240 never scanned docs with such clarity.
One drawback...you can't use TWAIN with the ScanSnap series. So no "import from scanner" in Photoshop.
But this things will scan a JPG that can you later open in Photoshop. No worries.
As a designer, I'm not impacted since I rarely scan anything in color these days.
(It does scan in full color, btw...really nice quality).
I'll let the video show you real-world usage.
