Bga 437(ON-BOARD),NVIDIA MCP7A-ION Review

Using WD Green 3.5" drive, 2x2GB DDR3, 90W Adapter, DVD Drive, 120mm fan at low speed.
Power Consumption:
1W @ OFF
2W @ Sleep (Win 7)
26W @ Idle
30W @ 1080p h.264 mkv
32 @ 1080p h.264 + hulu 480 p (Flash 10.1RC)
Overclocking:
I had it POST at 2.3GHZ, but doubt it would have been stable.
Finally settled on setting FSB at 666, which sets CPU @ 2ghz.
This let me set the memory to exactly 1200mhz, which I've found to be the highest this MB will go for memory. I had it stable at 2.13GHZ, but could only set memory at 1185ghz or so.Pros:
-N Wifi works great, better even than my previous full size Rosewill N Card
-Integrated bluetooth picks up my Logitech Dinovo keyboard
-plays my HULU, Netflix, and h.264 files just great (having installed Flash 10.1 RC)
-takes DDR3 memory, which uses less power and is now cheaper than DDR2.
-Win 7 seems snappy enough at 1.6ghz, but easily overclockable to 2.0ghz. I had it stable at 2.13Ghz, but I couldn' set the memory to 1200mhz.
-Comes with Laptop power adapter and the molex adapter that plugs into the MB can power 3 Sata devices, which GREATLY reduces wire clutter
Cons:
Hotter than expected, was hoping for completely fanless, but I'm not comfortable with this:
Cold boot temp was 35 CPU, 25 MB, but temp approached 65 CPU/ 45 MB when running 1080p video.
This is normal, considering it is a high powered GPU.
I read about a fanless Zotac board hitting 71C and no crashing problems.
Regardless, I threw a 120mm fan on the heatsink, which I cannot hear after setting to Silent in BIOS.
Motherboard reserves 512MB for itself, plus another 256-512MB for the GPU. So my OS reports only 3 of my 4GB, so make sure you have 2x2GB memory, else you'll end up with 1GB usable for the system.IMHO, This board is definitely a better value than Zotac's equivalent offering.

SilverStone Mini-ITX/Mini-DTX Case with 600W 80+ Bronze Certified Power Supply with Window SG07B-W (Black) Review

SilverStone Mini-ITX/Mini-DTX Case with 600W 80+ Bronze Certified Power Supply with Window SG07B-W (Black)

I really like the quality of this case. The finish and design are great. You really can fit an 1156 socket cpu like an i5/i7(8xx) into a (slightly bigger than) shoebox-sized case. I really wish the power supply had modular cables, though, so it doesn't get 5 stars.
Building a computer inside this case is quite hard. Do not buy this for your first home-built computer. Cable-routing has no room at all for error, with airflow and parts rubbing together it's a constant challenge. In particular the CPU cooler is a bear. The stock Intel cpu cooler is very noisy in such a small case, and all vertical 3rd-part coolers are too tall, so you need to find a horizontal heatsink that's just the right geometry for your motherboard. I ended up with a COOLER MASTER Vortex Plus but tolerances are tight in all directions. It doesn't need its own fan, however, since the big top-fan that is part of this case blows directly down on it from less than 2 inches away.

The Sugo SG07, with a size that slots in between the venerable SG01 Micro-ATX SFF case from 2005 and the SG05, a powerful Mini-ITX case released in 2009, was designed to take the Mini-ITX platform to a whole new level. It is twice as powerful as the SG05 but only 37% bigger. Its custom 600W power supply, which is rated up to 50 degree celsius with 80 PLUS Bronze level efficiency and single +12V rail, was carefully chosen and optimized for SG07. Exhaustive testing was conducted to create unique VGA fan duct and exhaust vents that enable SG07 to not only accommodate the longest consumer graphics cards physically (up to 12.2 inches/310mm) but also capable of supporting graphics thermal profile of up to 400W through overclocking. For the CPU and motherboard area, a record-breaking use of 180mm fan (bigger than the Mini-ITX motherboard!) with vortex generating design was utilized to provide possibility of fanless CPU cooling of up to 95W (via CPU cooler such as SilverStone\'s NT06-E). But despite having tremendous amount of cooling performance, the SG07 is easy to maintain as well. It employs positive pressure layout with all intake areas fitted with removable filters so dust will not accumulate inside. If the goal is to make the ultimate Mini-ITX system, the SG07 is hard to beat.

Zotac ZBOX Intel Atom D510 1.66 GHz Dual Core All-in-One Mini-PC with No Memory, No Hard Drive and No OS Review

I was a little concerned that the Z-BOX would be a bit underpowered, but the new atom processor coupled with the ION chip set give it plenty of go.
With win7 it works right out of the box, although you'll need to get the latest NVIDIA drivers (windows update has these as optional updates), and it required a Bios update to quiet the fan, but once that was done it was pretty much inaudible, especially with the TV on.
As an indication of how it handles the load, Media Center uses about 40% CPU (distributed across the 4 cores) even when recording 2 HDTV channels using separate USB DVB-T receivers and playing back a previously recorded show (all at 1080i).
There was even enough grunt in the ION graphics (which are supposed to be equivalent to a GeForce 218) to get it play Left 4 Dead, UT3, Portal etc. all at near HD resolutions, with reasonable frame rates, although the details and reflections were turned down.
Getting it to work with MythTV (back end / front end all in one) was a little more challenging, but that's down to Linux not the PC. In the end, it worked for that as well.
It wakes as expected from signals on the Microsoft USB remote control, but not the RF keyboard or mouse, and the BIOS doesn't support wake on lan - for me not a show stopper.

The only other minor issue I have found is that any drives attached to the eSata port get seen as non-removable, only gets detected if the device is present at boot, and Windows crashes if it's unplugged.
Does run a little warm, especially when you hit it hard with games, but it doesn't seem excessive.
On the whole, I'm very happy with it!
