(More customer reviews)My friend and I are in a bird research program. We find, map, and study birds of prey. I recently bought a Nikon Prostaff 20-60 power spotting scope. On one of our outings we decided to compare my scope, the Nikon with his a Swarovski 20-60 power. We set them up side by side looking at the same objects. After looking a each object he said to me "your scope is brighter, clearer, and has more contrast than mine." I had to agree. The only thing the Swarovski was better at, no color fringing. The Nikon had a small outline of red when set at 30 or more power. The cost of the Nikon about $600, the Swarovski over $1700. I hope this review helps someone trying to make a choice in the complex world of buying a good scope. Oh, and by the way, the tripod sold with the Nikon scope is terrible. Invest in a good set of legs, you'll be glad you did.

Pentax 62625 10x50 DCF ED Binocular Review

(More customer reviews)If you are looking for top notch binoculars, you are likely considering the big three, Zeiss, Swarovski, Leica and possibly some others. I have used my Zeiss 10X40's since 1993 and decided to pass these bino's along to my son. I was fortunate enought to pick up a pair of Pentax DCF ED bino's. All I can say is that to me they are absolutely on par with the elite three..but for about half the cost. Test them side by side yourself and there is no way that any miniscule differenc is worth twice the money. I am blown away with the quality of these bino's for the money!

(More customer reviews)These binos have astonishing clarity and the ergonomic design makes them very easy to handle. I have never been more satisfied with a purchase. Saying these are well worth the money is an understatement. Looking through these binos is such a pleasant experience. At dawn, when using these binos, I was amazed at the detail I could see. During daylight hours I compared my Monarch X to my friends Burris binos. There was no comparison. Hands down the Monarch X is much better. When examining the brush and trees for elk the Monarch X was able to penetrate the shadows that the Burris was just not able to do. The one complaint I have has to do with the lens caps. They leave much to be desired. However, these binos deserve six stars.

Nikon Premier LX-L 10x25 Binoculars Review

(More customer reviews)I have used these binoculars in the Amazon jungle, the Galapagos Islands, at a political rally, and several Spurs games. I find them perfect for me because they are a compromise of size and magnification. I don't like to carry heavy binoculars and usually opt to leave them behind. These are light enough to be taken along and powerful enough to be beneficial in the diverse situations I listed above.

Nikon 7296 Monarch ATB 12x42 Binocular Review

(More customer reviews)These binoculars are mostly just like the old Nikon Monarchs, with maybe just a little more light in low light conditions. An excellent pair of binoculars for the price, five years ago binoculars of this quality would have been more like $500-600. An especially cool feature of all the Nikon Monarchs is the close focus distance, which with my eyes is probably even a little under four feet. If you like looking at butterflies and dragonflies as well as birds, these binoculars are an excellent choice for their price tag.
