Very neat and compact PC. Only rub would be this model does not allow for a memory upgrade. With todays new software 1gig of memory may not be enough. However this little guy is easy to carry and goes with me on planes, trains and automobles.

Acer AOD250-1604 10.1-Inch White Netbook - Over 3 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter) Review

Acer AOD250-1604 10.1-Inch White Netbook - Over 3 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter)
Average Reviews:

Okay, netbooks don't have DVD or CD burners and generally have less memory and RAM than other laptops. That being said, this is an excellent netbook. This comes with Windows 7 Starter which is a huge improvement over Vista and is as good as or better than windows XP. This netbook is easily upgradeable to 2 GB RAM and though I haven't found any need to upgrade it performance-wise I am going to stick an extra 1GB in it. Acer is a quality brand and is very affordable and the colors of this little netbook make it cooler than the average black ones out there. If you don't mind the screen size, don't need/want a DVD or CD drive then this is perfect. Homework, internet browsing and general apps all run well on it.

I had been thinking about buying a 10" netbook for quite a while and finally did it! I've just had it a few days, but already I feel that it is just what I wanted for traveling. It is so small, but still very usable, and I love the red color! It has only 1 GB memory and 250 GB hard drive. That's not a lot of memory, but for my purposes I think it will be just fine. It was a great buy at Amazon!

I say this laptop is great for casual users, but I use this thing HEAVILY. I bought it from WalMart in May and it's been great for me.
I play World of Warcraft and Sims 3 on it with no problems (I've also been playing beta for Aion and Champions online, both of which require a decent system to run).
I watch movies constantly.
And music sounds great on this system. It has a built in Tuba bass system which I had to find a way to turn down because it was turned all the way up for some reason.
I've had 40+ tabs open and loading at in Firefox at one time, and it just barely starts to run slowly.
The battery life is a big downer. Maybe an hour and a half if I'm watching a movie. Mine has stayed plugged in almost it's entire lifespan, because I really only use it at the house.
But all in all, it holds up well with normal wear and tear.
Acer customer service sucks though. I actually had to return my first laptop because it came with a BIOS password (which there aren't a lot of ways to get around) and Acer said they would take it off for $150 - even though it came that way! And not a single person I talked to actually spoke English. I ended up taking it back to WalMart and they switched it out for me.
I give this laptop 4 stars. It works great and I haven't had any problems other than the initial mix up.

Acer Aspire One AOD250-1990 10.1-Inch Diamond Black Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life Review

Acer Aspire One AOD250-1990 10.1-Inch Diamond Black Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have only had this D250 (White) for 2 days now, so my comments are really nothing more than a first impression at this point.
I purchased the D250 to replace a Dell 700M which I have loved, but even at only 4.5 pounds gets heavy with all its gear on trips - and 1280x768 on a 12" screen is starting to get hard on older eyes.
I did plenty of research and decided on the D250 over the Asus 1008 and Samsung NC10 primarily due to it's weight and styling - and the combination of a white shell with a black keyboard. I had counted out the HP and Dell for various reasons - most notably battery life.
First impression out of the box of the D250 was extremely good: fit and finish is excellent - with the exception that the hard drive bay door wasn't put on right and was warping up (a tab wasn't seated). A quick unscrew and reseat fixed that, but I was surprised it shipped that way.
Also note that the battery seats very firmly (a big plus) and the unit is very solid feeling.
After the initial Windows setup I was disappointed at the performance until I realized there was a huge drain being put on the system by the included trial version of McAffee. I uninstalled that and the system is quite snappy - very comparable to my 700M. I'll use CA AntiVirus or AVG instead (seems to have a lower system overhead) and the D250 is performing MS Office and Internet browsing tasks admirably.
I did just upgrade to 2GB of RAM using the Crucial DIMM offered here by Amazon. Everything seems to be fine with it and I haven't noticed any compatibility issues. I also haven't really noticed any performance changes, but I had very little "before" experience on which to judge.
After everything is now running I have to say I'm very impressed and satisfied with this little machine. Very solid, nice screen, usable keyboard and touchpad, and decent performance.
If I had to point to anything I would consider a disappointment, there would be 2:
1. Screen brightness settings (on aC or battery) don't seem to be properly retained across boot/restart and when toggling between AC and battery power. So, sometimes I'll restart and it will remain t level 7 where it was when I shut down, and sometimes it will revert to level 5 on restart.
2. Wireless doesn't maintain On/Off status of what it was on shutdown - it always comes back to On after a restart.
That's about it.
I also found a Targus Slipskin Peel neoprene slipcase (at Walmart for $[...]) that fits the 250D with the 6Cell battery perfectly. TSS11103US.
P.S. - there are two different versions of the 6-Cell battery for the D250, a 48kWh and a 58kWh version. My unit from Amazon had the 48kWhr version (est 6hr battery life).
Hope this helps.
** UPDATE (7/15/09) **
My "disappointment #1" (screen brightness issue) was corrected in a recent BIOS update. Now, the last setting is maintained (although not independently for battery and AC) across reboots. However, the brightness will still drop 2 levels if you disconnect AC power while running. But at leastthe behaviour is now consistent.
Also, I have now been able to (i.e. had reason to) test the System Restore capability and it worked flawlessly in putting the system back exactly as I received it, without the need for recovery CDs. Very impressed.
One last note: While this unit may not have Bluetooth built in, don't feel you have to spend an extra $[...] (or get a different model) just to get BT. You can find many extremely small USB BT dongles that work just fine and cost next to nothing. I got one that you can barely see (about the size of a Logitech Nano transmitter) and it cost a whopping $[...] online. The Aspire One recognized it and installed automatically and it works perfectly - for $[...].

Have been using the system for about a week.
The battery life is unreal. With wi-fi on I get about 8+ hours, with wi-fi off the system says it can go 12+ hours and I believe it. recharge is fast as well.
The screen is very bright although i would have spent more to get 1280 wide rather than 1024. Screen reclines way back so its fine for just about any viewing position.
The body is plastic but feels very solid - no flex like I noticed in some of the ASUS netbooks.
Speakers are fine for everyday use. Haven't used the mic or speaker out jacks.
System is very light, and the charger is far lighter than I expected.
Trackpad is very responsive although I haven't mastered the zoom in and out gestures. The left and right click thing is a little stiff and takes some getting used to. I don't really like the keyboard style. It has teh flat keys with very little room in between and I'm having some problems gettign used to it rather than a standard PC keyboard (hence all the spelling mistakes in this review). that said the keys are very well arranged and none of teh common keys are hard to find or require complex ALT-FN-CTRL-SHIFT type combinations.
Keep in mind that this is a netbook, not a desktop replacement. The machine can get a little slow, usually if you are working in Internet explorer - this machine is going to have be seriously tryign out other, lighter weight, browsers.
this machine would get five stars except for the keyboard, which is a matter of personal typing style. If you are looking to all day battery life for non heavy duty computing then this machine is perfect.

Acer AOD250-1633 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - Up to 9 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter) Review

Acer AOD250-1633 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - Up to 9 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Update (17 Nov 09): After a fair amount of travel I stick by my initial rating. Construction is solid and I have had no issues, even after it has been thrown around a bit with my carry-on. Also, you shouldn't have to worry about the "big" battery sticking out. The extra battery life is worth it and the netbook fits easy in your typical sleeve. I bought a standard netbook sleeve off the shelf for a bit of extra protection and the computer fits in with no issues. In fact, I'm able to get my travel mouse and power cord in with it, zipped up and all, which makes travel even easier.
------------------------
So I was recently in the market for a netbook for travel reasons and happened upon the Acer One. After days of reading reviews and visits to local electronic stores, I had narrowed my choices down to the Asus (10 hour battery life) EeePC and this Acer One. As luck would have it, I was in the market just as Windows 7 pre-orders began and both machines came through Amazon with the new OS. In the end, the AC adapter issues with the Asus kept me away, and I figured 10.5 vs. 9 hours of battery life wasn't too big of a difference (and neither would live up to the claims regardless).
The netbook arrived the day after Windows 7 was released and I immediately got to work removing the "extras" that come with the computer. Surprisingly though, Acer did not load too much bloat on the machine and getting it off took no time at all. So then began the installation process. Avast, Office, iTunes, CD Burning software, VLC, Chrome, Firefox, Skype and Quicktime (the usuals) were all immediate needs and all went on with ease. I did purchase the extra gig of RAM that is recommended on most other netbooks (read around and you'll see) as well, however, it did not come until 3 days later so I had a decent amount of time to play around with this machine with just 1g.
Even with 1 gig, iTunes ran smoothly, I was able to watch Hulu with no hiccups, Office didn't lag... I was actually quite surprised. The 2 gig showed up eventually though, and things got even better. Installation was a breeze (just open the memory "door" and clip it in) and took only 30 seconds. The computer recognized it instantly. Once up and running again, the system was noticeably faster... very noticeable. Having open multiple programs is not a problem at all (something I will admit I was concerned about initially).
Along the same lines as the memory upgrade, an external DVD drive may be another buy you will want (just like with every other netbook). I did not invest in one, simply because I will not be needing it, but just a thought when pricing out your "full" purchase.
So, what is good and what is bad?
Pros:
Battery life - lives up to the advertisement (for the most part). I run it on the intermediate setting and get 7 hours easy. Currently at 45% right now and have 4 hours and 5 minutes left.
Wireless N and Bluetooth - while not "necessary" these are very nice. I can pick up signals with my netbook that other laptops in the house cannot get. Range is amazing.
Speed - A lot faster than what I was expecting and blew away all my expectations. Just make sure you spend the extra 20-40 bucks and get the extra memory. You will see a big difference (keep in mind though, she does fine with 1 gig). 2 is always better though.
Display - Very clear and easy on the eyes. Thought I might have issues with the small screen but it looks amazing.
Windows 7 - you can read the reviews about it specifically but it runs great. I'll leave it at that.
Cons:
Keyboard - slightly smaller than some other netbook keyboards out there and can be tricky sometimes.
Touchpad - Acer, as with others, boasts a multi-touch pad (similar to an iPhone or iPod Touch). Maybe I just haven't found the right use for it, but I find it nearly worthless and even when I can get it to "work," it is slow and not very useful. Also, some may find the touchpad a tad too small (at least I do). Finally, the click bar on the touchpad is not broken up into two buttons, and while this is fairly common, the click bar can be tough to click sometimes and there are times I will try to click and hit the middle, which does nothing, and you don't "know" until you look down to see what you're clicking. I think two distinct buttons would have been better and easier.
In the end, this model (and it's brightly colored siblings), in my view, are an excellent buy if you're in the market. At around $400 (depending on how much you get the RAM for), this machine comes with features that you will only find in more expensive netbooks. While I've only had it for a week, I will say I am very pleased with my investment. If time permits, I will update this to review how it holds up with travel, etc... but based on simple home wireless use, I have very very few complaints.

I bought my Aspire One D255-2301 at Walmart for $199. This little laptop is so great for the price. It's light, has good battery life and is a pleasure to use. I've upgraded to Windows 7 Starter, and to 2Gb of memory, and this alone has made this little guy as fast as my $1000 HP laptop.
I immediately bought a second Acer Aspire One for my grandson, and he loves it.

Acer AO532h-2326 10.1-Inch Netbook (Onyx Blue) Review

Acer AO532h-2326 10.1-Inch Netbook (Onyx Blue)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Acer Aspire One 532h is a lovely little netbook, for the price it is fantastic but like all things it isn't perfect. Let's begin shall we?
The netbook is a great simplistic design, very lightweight and compact, perfect for traveling or school. It has an SD card slot for your Digital Camera, etc. 3 USB 2.0 ports, a VGA-out port (great if you wanna use the netbook with a projector), a Headphone and Microphone port, and a kensington lock slot (great if you wanna physically lock up your computer).
The keyboard is a chiclet key style, although this looks nice, the keyboard is forgettable, and by that I mean there is no way to physically remember what key your fingers are touching. This is definitely a shortcoming for the device.
The trackpad is pretty cool, it has your typical tracking area and vertical scroll off to the side, but what makes this interesting is Acer has bundeled software which lets you use multi-touch gestures. a two-finger swipe to the left will act like the "back" button, two fingers in a circle would be "refresh", it's nifty, but the lack of speed on some commands makes it more of a novelty.
The screen is bright and beautiful, of course at maximum brightness, its an LED screen so it doesn't use alot of battery power.
The computer comes with Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g), a built-in microphone, and a 0.3Mp camera. Although the camera's specs aren't great, it still looked good when testing with Ustream and Google Video chat.
The other thing you'll want to remember is this IS windows 7 Starter, so you do get some nice features that come with Windows 7 Home, Pro, etc. You are missing some basic functions. If you want to change the desktop background... you can't, personalize the sounds... nope. It's definitely a starter, and if you want a more "full" experience, you will have to fork out some more cash to upgrade.
The computer maxes out the processor when more than two windows are active, this makes it difficult to multi-task. One easy way to remedy this is to give your processor a break, install more RAM in the computer (1Gb to 2Gb extra of 200-pin 667MHz SODIMM RAM should suffice). The last thing is this computer is light, so light that you will find that the computer will want to tip over in your lap (not enough weight in the front), just something to mention.
So let's cover the key things I've learned...
*Beautiful LED screen
*Webcam is good
*computer is pretty powerful and gets basic tasks done quickly
*wakes up from standby in less than 3 seconds
*Battery power is great and could last an entire work day without a recharge
#Chiclet styled keyboard is forgetable and a mediocre experience
#multi-touch trackpad is sort of nice, mostly a gimmick
#computer isn't properly balenced
#you'll want to add some RAM if you expedt to get the most out of the device.

Acer Aspire AOD255-2331 10.1 inch Netbook (Black) Review

Acer Aspire AOD255-2331 10.1 inch Netbook (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Picked this model up locally on sale (D255-2331). It's a nice, light, fast little laptop. I was concerned the 3-cell battery wouldn't last long enough for daily use, but if the backlight is turned down you can get 5 or so hours out of it. Initially when I first charged the battery it wouldn't get past 96%. I let it run for a day and discharged to about 10%, then let it charge overnight and now it's saying 100% charge.
Acer puts minimal bloatware on this machine, which is nice. It even comes with some actually useful apps pre-installed (Skype, McAfee, MS Works). There were a TON of Windows updates that were needed though once I got it on the net. The BIOS was also outdated. The network driver caused one bluescreen once, which is what prompted the BIOS udpate. The driver on their site claimed I already had the latest version though.
Speed-wise I've had very few issues and I've been impressed with how fast this netbook actually is (even with only 1GB of RAM). Web pages load quickly and applications are fast. I installed MS Office 2007 and it loads just as fast as my desktop machine. It's also worth mentioning that YouTube videos play well. I've also played some .wmv videos through Windows Media Player and they play well with minimal CPU usage.
Hard drive is quiet and bottom of the netbook is somewhat warm. There is a small fan and vent on the side. The fan is pretty quiet (can only hear it in a quiet room).
Keyboard is useable, though my hands do notice it is a little smaller than full size. Multi-touch mouse pad works well. The mouse buttons are a bit hard to press at first, as well being right at the edge of the laptop, but after some getting used to it is now acceptable.
Speakers are adequate. Not real loud, but good enough for normal use.
The wireless card picks up my home and work networks and connects to them quickly. For example I can get a 144Mbps link to my Cisco router about 25 feet away through 2 walls. There is no WLAN on/off switch, but you can control it via Windows or the driver software. By default the radio is set to be always on at max power, but you can always get a little more battery life by turning this down as well.
One thing I don't quite get yet is when the system goes to sleep when the lid is closed it doesn't always wakeup automatically when the lid is reopened. Sometimes it does it on its own, sometimes I need to press the power button. Not a big deal though.
Overall I'd recommend this laptop to anyone wanting a small light daily-use laptop for simple common tasks.

I am so pleased with this computer! I previously had a 10" Acer Aspire which I liked and had no problems with but was somewhat slow. I just happened to see this 11" model on Amazon and when I read the specs, I was somewhat impressed. I have a number of computers in the house, mostly Intel processors but I do have one computer with an Athlon processor that has never given me a problem, so I wasn't worried about this model having a AMD Athlon in it. What a great little computer, it's at least twice the speed of my 10" Acer.
Pros: 2 gigs fast ram, full size key board, full Windows 7 premium, 64 bit, wireless N, 1.3 meg camera, HDMI output, HD graphics, etc......

Really impressive for a little computer. I LOVE it! I got it about two weeks ago and haven't found anything I don't like about it yet.
If you want a light weight, little computer for being mobile, this is the one.

I love this little netbook! It runs great, easy set-up,was able to download the trial of microsoft 2010 and it runs just fine on it, including adobe reader/flash, java, etc. Skype runs great and good picture resolution, no lagging. Great camera for those who chat with friends and family overseas, etc. I'm not a fan of the mousepad, but I never used the mousepad on a netbook before. I bought a nice mini toshiba mouse for it from hhgreg. The computer received and recognized the mouse immediately and worked just fine. This little portable size is easy to carry around and set up in bookstores and coffee shops where I usually like to do my online schooling. Overall, I am satisfied with my purchase, the color is cute, the bottom pictures when looking at the specs are truest to the color. I love it! :-D !! Yay!
I also only paid [...] for shipping with the trial of amazon prime. I ordered it on a Thursday night and it arrived early afternoon around 1pm on Saturday. I could have waited for monday with free shipping but I couldnt wait! Just a little extra information if your in a hurry to get one.

We picked one of these up at Fry's Electronics on Sunday Jan 23. We have three laptops but no other netbook experience so it is hard to make comparisons. Also my son-in-law took it with him so I only had a couple of hours to play with it. Given those disclaimers...
It is a nice little netbook and were I looking for a new computer today I'd pick up one of these for myself. It is light, small, and the battery life is pretty good. With three USB ports and an SD card reader it is nicely equipped. The thing that made the sale for us was the 1.3Mp webcam because we want to make Skype video calls with our son-in-law. The video quality was great. The screen is very bright, we actually had to dim it a bit for comfort. The single speaker, located under the front left side, didn't have much volume and was rather "tinny" sounding.
Speed is something I'd find hard to describe. It certainly is slow compared to our other computers, but not something I couldn't live with. Video worked great. I tried a Netflix streaming video and a youtube video; both worked great.
My biggest complaint are the flat faced keys. A little contour would have helped a lot. It would take me some adjustment to type quickly on that keyboard. However the keyboard layout is good. It isn't full sized but not so small as to be a big adjustment. The size would be easy to adapt to. The cursor keys, given the limited space, are well designed.
The track pad worked well, doesn't have the rough surface that so many complain about (why do they do that?), however none of us use a track pad in this family. We all choose to have wireless mice. Having three USB ports is nice because we were able to stick one of those really small mouse receivers in one of the USB slots and leave it there all the time. The track pad mouse buttons are a single bar (why do they do that too?) but that didn't hinder our use of it when we tried it out.
With Windows 7, which I like, starter version installed it doesn't allow the wallpaper to be changed. That drove my son-in-law crazy but he'll have to learn to live with it.
It would be nice if it got 8 or 10 hours on the battery instead of 6 but hey, six hours is double what any of our other laptops achieve!
The lid is a total fingerprint magnet being smooth and shiny (Why do they do that also?)
I went to remove all the bloatware from it for my son-in-law and guess what? There really wasn't any that I wanted to delete. They had preloaded Skype and a few other useful tools that we would have loaded but there wasn't the usual pile of stuff to delete.
In my opinion I think this is a pretty neat little computer for a quite reasonable price.
Jan 27. I called Acer technical support and learned max RAM is 2GB and it is DDR3. The telephone support person didn't yet have detailed information so couldn't tell me how to access the ram (but said it was through the bottom of the computer), nor could he tell me if there was a single RAM slot or two.

A friend of mine bought this netbook and asked me to add Linux to it. I installed Kubuntu "Lucid Lynx" 10.4.2 in dual boot mode. Lucid slid on like a silk glove. Everything worked "out of the box". Installed Skype and it worked well, too. The internal mic and webcam gave excellent results. It streamed a Tom Hanks movie from YouTube seamlessly in full screen mode.I purchased the similar Acer Aspire AO521-3782 from Amazon as an Xmas gift for my wife. It, too, is running well and she loves it. She especially loves the portability of it, and its long battery life. She'll take it off the shelf, do her browsing and email, and the occasion photo session with DigiKam, plus watching videos. She can do that 3 or 4 times before the battery gets low and she has to plug it in. With the HDMI cable (Belkin F3U133-10 Hi-Speed HDNMI) I purchased from Amazon she can plug her Acer into our VISO HDTV and stream the movie to the "big screen"! I also bought her the car charger so she can take it with her and be able to recharge it while using it in the car. The last piece of equipment I bought for her Acer was the Samsung USB 2.0 8x DVD Writer External Optical Drive for Mac and PC SE-S084D/TSBS burner. It requires two USB ports to power it but it works VERY WELL with both Win7 and Linux.
This Acer, and my wife's, came with only 1GB of RAM, so one additional purchase really makes the Acer One's fast: replacing the 1GB stick with a 2GB stick: 2GB PC3-10600 (1333Mhz) 204 pin DDR3 SODIMM (CNF)
for $28 plus shipping. The speed increase when browsing, or running more than one app at a time (browser + email), I estimate to be nearly double. OF course, FireFox is always faster when you set up one pipeline for each tab you plan to open. I set up 8 pipelines. (URL is about:config - then search for "pipeline")
There is a known problem with the male power plug pin breaking off, so take ordinary care when inserting the power cord that you plug it straight into the power socket. Do not push it in at an angle and let the "hole guide it in". You'll catch the top of the pin with the plug and bend it.

Great laptop, battery life is about 5 hours for normal use. Easy to type on and the number pad is a big plus. The AMD E350 apu is still good for some gaming I can play left 4 dead 2 and fallout new vegas with no lag. Defiantly not a high end laptop but for only 400 its a great deal, however I do recommend getting another 2gig stick of ram as it runs a lot better on 4gig.
