I have struggled to find a camera bag that was flexible enough to handle all of my camera gear (Nikon body, 3 big lenses, one small lense, wireless remote, light meter, flash and various needed gadgets). It seemed like I was either trying to cram too much stuff into too little a camera bag or I was working with some huge backpack with straps and snaps rattling all over everywhere.
This bag has none of those problems and while it is expensive - it lives up to the motto of "you get what you pay for". This bag is easy to set up and is tall enough that the lenses can stand up, which gives you more equipment in a smaller footprint. I have no trouble getting all of my gear in this bag and it still has room for my laptop and cords. Even with all of this, it fits into an airplane overhead without any trouble and doesn't seem nearly as big as the alternative camera bags.
This has an inside zipper to shut the bag with an inside carry handle if you don't want to close the top flap and secure it. This means that you can get into and out of the bag without leaving your gear exposed (zip it shut) and then close the top flap and secure it when you are done shooting and ready to move on. This also means that someone can't slip into your bag once the flap is down and strapped because they can't get to the zipper easily. There are some inside roomy pockets to hold more gear and your laptop (if you want it along). While softsided, the bag has plenty of padding to protect your gear and keep things from bouncing around inside the bag.
With all my gear loaded up the bag gets pretty heavy (because of the gear - not the bag) and yet the shoulder strap is comfortable and surprisingly makes the load feel lighter than it does when you first lift it up. I have tried a lot of bags including flipsides, backpacks and shoulder bags - none of them came even close. The workmanship on this bag is amazing, well thought out and worth every penny. This is the last camera bag that I will ever buy and my only regret is that I didn't buy this one first.

A firm favourite with serious photographers all over the world. The 445 has recently undergone a substantial re-design.The main compartment now includes four extra full depth pockets. The single, straight-path zip top opening is retained but has now been reprofiled, so that it is possible for the zip panels to lie out of the way behind the inside pockets, to form the Billingham TukTop. In use the zip can remain open and protected with the main flap. The simple straight zip path ensures long, trouble-free life. The extra height ofthe 445, allows a hammerhead flashgun to stand upright in the bag. The adjustable Delta shoulder sling comes complete with a leather and neoprene SP20 shoulder pad.A new accessory, the G4 Computer Slip, will fit into the front pocket of the 445, allowing a laptop computer to be safely carried. We replaced an 18 year old 27" CRT set with this one and it's a beauty. I am a TV news cameraman with thirty years in the business so I look at a lot of high end monitors at work.
When I went to the store I didn't expect to get a great set in this size and frankly 720P didn't excite me much either.
After looking at top tier sets from Sony, LG, Samsung, Toshiba and Mitsubishi I ended up on the Panasonic.
I was shocked at how good all the upper tier sets looked but the Panasonic seemed to have a little better detail down in the blacks and seemed to track highly detailed scenes with less digital noise than the others, but it was close accross the board.
The off air ATSC tuner is excellent and the set has all the inputs you could reasonably need. I do not intend to plug in an iPod so that wasn't a factor in my choice.
My DVD player is older and does not pass audio through the HDMI output so I connected it to the set via the component outs and I feel no need at all to upgrade to a BlueRay player. At this size this is a wonderful combination.
My general feeling is that if you watch a lot of HDTV that is live or tape such as sports then Panasonic flat screens just seem to pull a little more quality out of the signal. For movies it is more of a level playing field.
This is pretty subjective but it's how I see it.
It's amazing how far your money goes in this stuff anymore.

Sharp XR-11XC Multimedia DLP Projector Review

I bought one of these to use in my High School Biology/Chemistry classroom as the School only has a few and the teachers share them. Hardly a day has gone by that I haven't used it. My laptop is linked to it for Power Points or searching the Internet with the class, a video/DVD player is linked to it and even a microscope has been hooked up to it. The image is large, clear and bright, no more kids in the back complaining that they can't see. With so much use it was inevitable that the light bulb died recently. I knew they were expensive but I shopped around on the net and found one for a mere $265. But it's still worth it for the convenience of having the projector in my room every day.

Mitsubishi WD-57731 57-Inch 1080p DLP HDTV Review

Mitsubishi WD-57731 57-Inch 1080p DLP HDTV
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I dumped my old Mitsubishi CRT-based rear projection HDTV when we moved to another house. That TV was a back-breaker to move. To replace it, I found this one after much research on the Net and with visits to Fry's, Circuit City, and Best Buy. I found no independent reviews of this model on the Net. However, the specs for this TV impressed me. What I most wanted was the ability to receive 1080P sources natively and connect to a PC with a DVI connector. This TV seems protected from early obsolescence with the plethora of connectors: HDMI, ieee1394, and component video. I did confuse the specs with those of the other TVs I researched. I thought that, like other similar Mitsubishi models, this one has memory card (SD, MMC, etc.) slots and USB connection. I was disappointed to find out when it arrived (in late July 2006) that it did not. However, this was not much of a loss for me. I was impressed by the quality of the picture. I was worried about the quality of rendering standard 480p DVDs and standard def TV. However, watching DVDs was a joy. The color was well saturated and accurate. The picture was bright. It was definitely an improvement over my old HDTV. Watching standard def TV was tolerable, though one could definitely see its lack of detail. My small children seemed to enjoy watching their cartoon shows on the standard def channels, though. With cartoon drawings, the graininess of SDTV is much less noticeable. Watching 1080i HDTV was very satisfying. But I'm too cheap to get HD cable, and I don't watch TV that much, anyway. I'm waiting for the HD-DVD or BluRay players to become more available and affordable.

Mitsubishi amps up your home theater viewing experience with the 57-inch WD-57731 1080p digital light projection (DLP) television, which combines the TurboLight150 lamp system and the latest 1080p DLP chip to produce a big, bright and bold picture with unsurpassed detail. Because 1080p provides twice the resolution of the high definition 720p or 1080i displays found in most HDTVs today, you'll get more vivid pictures--no matter the scene or content. It delivers stunningly detailed images thanks to the high-speed Plush1080p video processor (with a 6-segment, 10,800 RPM color wheel), which up-converts 1080i signals to 1080p producing four times the resolution of traditional line doublers. The WD-57731 also features a cabinet with a simple, clean design with a compact footprint that will fit virtually any home theater furnishings without taking up a lot of space.
It includes dual HD tuners, a QAM tuner that's fully compatible with unscrambled HDTV cable reception, and a wide variety of digital inputs (including two HDMI, three component, and a Firewire port). And the set's CableCARD port means the set will also receive digital cable television systems services directly from a compatible cable operator without requiring a bulky, external cable box.
The WD-57731 has a 1920 x 1080-pixel resolution, 16:9 aspect ratio, and compatibility with 480i/480p/720p/1080i video sources. It includes six 4:3 aspect ratio modes and two aspect ratio modes from 16:9 sources. Other convenience features include color temperature controls, full-screen image freeze, two tuner picture-in-picture (PIP), split screen, V-Chip parental controls, and a sleep timer.
It pumps out audio via its integrated 20-watt speaker system (10 watts per two channels) and also offers Mitsubishi's Level Sound Dynamics Limiter features, which evens out the sound of programs--even during loud commercial breaks. The IEEE 1394 (also known as Firewire or i.Link) multimedia connection provides simple, high-bandwidth, real-time audio, video and data networking between this Mitsubishi TV and digital video camcorders and compatible PC systems, enabling you to record SD or HD digital video with plug-and-play ease. This set features the following video and audio connections:
Composite AV (RCA): 3 in (1 front), 1 out
S-Video: 3 in (1 front)
Component Video: 2 in
HDMI: 2 in (with 2 audio inputs)
RF: 2 in
PC DVI: 1 in
Analog audio output: 1
Digital audio output: 1 (Coaxial)
Firewire: 2
CableCARD: 1

Proprietary Mitsubishi Features This television includes several exclusive Mitsubishi technologies that enhance its picture as well as ease of use.
Most important is Mitsubishi's Plush 1080p collection of imaging technologies, which up-convert lower quality images from every video source--analog and digital broadcasts, DVD players, digital cable and satellite, game consoles--to HD quality. And for a 1080p HDTV like this model, even the high quality 720p and 1080i HDTV signals being broadcast need to be reformatted. The Plush 1080p feature set scales the picture precisely, with minimal side effects. And 1080i, currently the most common form of HDTV signal, is spectacular at 1080p.
Rather than provide standard color and tint controls, Mitsubishi's PerfectColor technology enables you to adjust the screen's color palette with six independent color controls (magenta, red, yellow, green, cyan, and blue).
The patented 150-watt TurboLight lamp system focuses light more efficiently onto the DLP chip to improve image brightness 10 percent over conventional lamp systems.
Mitsubishi's 4D Video Noise Reduction system provides a cleaner, clearer picture from nearly any source by analyzing multiple frames to identify and remove video noise or snow caused by distortions in the video signal. This effectively keeps detail in the foreground and eliminates background noise, even in fast moving scenes.
Finally, the ClearThought set of features includes all-digital audio output (which converts analog audio signals to digital audio) and the NetCommand single-remote control home theater operation system (which allows you to set up and control components using simple on-screen icons). It also provides the TV Guide On Screen 8-day program guide system, which makes it easy to sort through all the television listings to find your favorite channels.

Digital Cable Ready You can connect your cable television directly from the wall to this DLP TV without going through a cable box to receive all of your cable channels, including premium channels, and get an even better picture by doing so. This set has a slot on the back for a CableCARD, a device that descrambles subscribed channels. With the CableCARD (available from your local cable TV company), the TVÕs internal tuner will tune directly to the subscribed cable channels, eliminating the need for a separate cable box.
When a digital cable TV channel is received via the CableCARD, it is decoded and remains a digital video signal all the way to the screen. Standard-definition digital channel signals are up-converted by the advanced processing capability in the set (see more about the Plush imaging feature below), giving it an HD-quality picture. The resulting image has the best possible quality, with maximum bandwidth, and minimal noise and distortion.
What's in the Box DLP TV, multibrand NetCommand remote control (with 2 AA batteries), IR emitter cable
Warranty One year on parts. One year on labor. Carry in service.

I got this item on a Gold Box special, so I ordered quickly with no reviews posted. Then I saw a lot of negative comments in the Gold Box section, especially regarding the sound quality. I have had the TV for less than 24 hours so I am not going to be able to provide an in-depth review, but I will say my fears were unfounded. For $389, no shipping charges, I could not have done better. The sound is fine. The picture is beautiful. The TV is attractive and not heavy. The remote is difficult to program and we are still working on that. We are not yet able to get all of the info on shows we got from our original Dish remote, but we are down to one remote rather than the two we had previously.
Several others asked about computer usage, and I have not tried to do this although it looks like it is equipped for this use. I don't have any reason to believe that picture-in-picture capacity exists, but who knows?
My point in the quick posting is that there is a lot of negative reaction to this product, and I wanted to report a positive experience. The most common comment was that the sound got garbled after a few hours use, and this has not occurred in its first day of performance. My old set had lousy sound, so this is a major improvement.
Good luck! And, by the way, I ordered it on Fri morning and received it Sat night...on Super Saver Shipping...bravo!

Panasonic PV-GS14 MiniDV Camcorder w/22x Optical Zoom Review

Panasonic PV-GS14 MiniDV Camcorder w/22x Optical Zoom
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this only a few weeks ago & it's been a wonderful camera. I've used it to capture all sorts of life's moments, mainly our cats being crazy. I've also used it to capture digital images. I've not spent a whole lot of time using the camera, but enough to know how to use it fairly well. I'll start with the digital images 1st, and then move onto video.
The Digital Pictures:
The camera does not include a SD card so I had to purchase one separately, which is definitely a bummer. Luckily I was able to get a small 16mb Panasonic SD card off an auction site for $8 after shipping. I have no plans to capture a ton of pictures so 16mb was fine. I took about 18 pictures after I finally got the SD card in the mail & the pictures looked fantastic... At least on the camera they looked good. I never messed with changing the quality around so the settings were default on the camcorder.
When I finally got the free USB cable in the mail & hooked my camera up to my pc I was pleased with how easy it was for Windows (2000 Pro. in my case) to recognize the camera. Immediately it installed without me having to do anything extra & it added a new drive letter in my computer where I was easily able to copy the images or move them to my pc. When I started opening the images with ACDSee & Adobe Photoshop I was not please at the quality of the images. Not only were they fuzzy & dull looking, they were only 640 x 480 in size. This may be adjustable by changing settings on the camera itself, but I have not had time to do so.
The Video:
This is overall the best thing about this camera. I've recorded a lot of nothing as stated above, but the camera does a terrific job of capturing it all & keeping the image clean & colorful. I've hooked the camera to my TV & it all looks great. The camera has to be pretty still if you zoom into things or else the video becomes slightly blurred while trying to stabilize itself.
There are a lot of different functions to the video recording as well, it has many more options and special effects then I thought possible for a camera of its price range. The footage I recorded at night looked great with the backlight on. I was however unable to tell any difference with the soft skin effect. Unfortunately the battery is easily drained & a second battery is recommended.
The Pros:
Great Video, Light Weight, Easy To Hook Up, Lots of Extra Features, Zoom 22x, Firewire, Fun, Comes With Power Cord So Camera Can Be Used Without the Battery
The Cons:
The Cover for the ports is flimsy, Digital Pictures Fuzzy, Not Much in the Box, No Included Software or PC Cables, Short Battery Life, No included SD Card, No Included DV Tapes
I've not had time to test this out or not, but for other noobs to the DV Camera world might be interested in knowing that with a firewire cable capturing video from the camera is possible. Firewire is the only way to do this as USB & USB 2.0 cannot keep up with the frame rate & chop up picture quality. So if you want to use your video & make a home dvd you can do so with this camera as well as other DV cameras that have a Firewire port.
One last feature that's available that I never had time to mess with & do not care to, is the ability to use the camera as a webcam.
Overall the camera is terrific & worth checking out, if you really want it to take fantastic pictures I'd probably save $100 & pickup the pv-gs12 & use the $100 to get a digital camera or look at the latest model.
::UPDATE::
Someone asked how do you get the free usb cable? The answer is simple fill out the card that says you get a free usb cable when you return it. I believe it was much like a warranty card, or was the warranty card... mine was with all the other paperwork.

I looked and looked at my local electronics stores comparing every lcd tv they had and when I saw this one it was a WOW moment. The picture on this is amazing to say the least. I have a buddy who is a die hard sony fan. He saw this and couldn't stop talking about it. Cons are video switching is slow... no hdmi.... and audio is bad..... but who cares about audio. If you are going to be spending the money that this costs I would bet that you have a surround sound system already.

Canon Optura 40 MiniDV Camcorder w/14x Optical Zoom Review

Canon Optura 40 MiniDV Camcorder w/14x Optical Zoom
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I pre-ordered this camera and got it the day it was "released" (5/20), thank you Amazon. Overall the feature content is pretty slick but I have a few issues I need to investigate before I declare that I am in love with this camera or that I am disappointed.
My big concern is that I see a very strange effect when I am mildly zoomed on a subject and the subject is moving around. I see a "fluttery" effect as though the shutter is too slow for the action. It gets really bad at times and is really annoying. I am not sure if the camera (in its "auto-everything" mode) is attempting to adjust to the change in the subject but whatever it is its not good. I will follow up with Canon to determine what the issue is to see if this is a feature of the camera, if my camera is defective or if I am not using it correctly.
I did a side by side comparison with my old Sony DCR-TRV20. The Canon's image at times shows off the 3x more effective pixels and is generally brighter than the Sony but again I am not totally blown out of the room with improvements with the Canon. Low light is a problem and it generates grainy pictures.
Update: june 13, 2004
I noticed the review where the guy mentions the "auto slow shutter" control. BINGO. Barring this strangeness that is now solved, this camera is excellent. In my opinion the video quality is more film-like than video. I assume this is due to the high number of pixels.
As far as the still image feature goes, I've taken really good and really bad shots. Its all about holding the camera still and in my opinion its a little challenging considering the location of straps and buttons on this camera for still shots. None-the-less, if you take your time and think about it, you can get some great stills.
Great Camera.

Whether shooting up-close or from a distance, the Optura 40 delivers video and photos with exceptional definition and contrast, making every shot you take a potential award-winner. Featuring Genuine Canon Optics, the Optura 40 expands on this range with a 14x Optical Zoom and 280x Digital Zoom. Both models allow you to cover all the angles, be it wide or telephoto, ensuring that you always get the shot you want.
Enjoy stunning video and photos The secret behind the Optura 30 and Optura 40 camcorders' incredible video and photos is Canon's DIGIC DV technology. Since videos and photos have different color requirements, DIGIC DV uses special color optimization techniques when processing an image for output to a TV or printer. The result is accurate, life-like color reproduction in all your videos and photos.
Catch all the action without the shake Life rarely sits still for a shot, that's why the Optura 30 and Optura 40 feature Canon's advanced Image Stabilization system. Now you can keep images smooth and steady, even at full telephoto and while panning or zooming. The large 2.5" LCD and Color Viewfinder further helps to compose sensational shots from any angle.
Dazzle on-lookers with vibrant color shots Now you can relive those precious moments with all their true vibrant colors. While traditional camcorders process color with a standard CMYG filter (resulting in duller colors), the Optura 30 and Optura 40 camcorders use Canon's RGB Primary Color Filter, which separates light passing through the lens into their true red, green and blue color components. The result is professional-quality images that deliver natural-looking tones and superior color rendition.
Get the full picture on your wide-screen TV Unlike camcorders which only record a vertically stretched picture, the Optura 30 and Optura 40 both feature a High-Resolution 16:9 Mode that records video in true 16:9 ("letterbox") format for playback on wide-screen TVs. When shooting in the 16:9 Mode, the entire width of the 2.2 Megapixel CCD image sensor is used to capture your footage. The result is wide-screen quality videos that are certain to impress even the biggest "big screen" fan.
Canon's Megapixel CCD Canon's Megapixel CCD Image Sensor delivers crisp images with life-like detail. Whether you are shooting video or photos with the camcorder, you will get the best results. The CCD works like film -- when light is captured by the sensor, it registers an image and advanced processing converts the pixels into digital data creating your video or photos.
Canon's exclusive DIGIC DV DIGIC DV, our exclusive signal processing circuit, makes it possible to achieve accurate color for both video and digital photos. Since video and digital photos have different color requirements, DIGIC DV utilizes two different color techniques to maximize video quality on a TV and still image quality for print or computer display.
Take it from sight to website at a moment's notice Thanks to the Optura's improved Motion JPEG feature, you can shoot video ready for streaming over the Internet or for e-mailing. The Motion JPEG Mode records your footage onto the Secure Digital memory card at 15 frames/second, giving you up to 60 minutes of recording time on a 512MB card. You can then quickly and easily transfer your movies to your computer using the USB cable.

Make incredible panoramas and portraits The Optura line of camcorders gives you the power to edit your still images in a variety of exciting ways. The Stitch Assist feature allows you to capture and create breathtaking 360-degree panoramas, while the Skin Detail Mode helps you take complimentary close-ups of people by softening details and reducing skin imperfections.
Turn your camcorder into a webcam Exclusive to Canon, the Optura camcorders feature a Network Mode that enables you to remotely control your camcorder through the DV Messenger2 software application. Control the focus and zoom of your camcorder from a computer while streaming the video via its IEEE 1394 terminal

Sharp Aquos LC52D62U 52-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV Review

Sharp Aquos LC52D62U 52-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Have owned this set for over a month, and overall am very happy with it. I carefully compared this to competitive Sony and Samsung models, and felt it was the best choice available on the market today. But it is by no means perfect...
Strengths:
-picture quality in all modes is excellent. Upconverting of standard def and 480p DVD's is best I've seen. 1080i from satellite box is simply stunning in clarity. 1080p via HDMI from PC is beautiful. Fast motion is handled without smearing. Don't be afraid of sitting close to this beautiful screen; I went with the 52" for an 8 foot viewing distance and it looks great from that distance even with SDTV.

Weaknesses:
-only two HDMI inputs. With Satellite, PC, high-def DVD and game consoles all ideally using HDMI, would like to see at least 3, if not 4 HDMI inputs.
-remote control. It's not really "universal". Doesn't control any audio except Sharp. Doesn't learn. Doesn't include DISH satellite codes. Has backlighting, but a lot of the buttons have the labeling on the adjacent, unlit surface of the remote, so in the dark you can't figure out which button is which.
-on-screen input labels. Sharp has improved this vs. my older 37" set, by allowing user to select from about a dozen different possible names for various inputs, eg. to replace "Input 2" with "DVD" or "Satellite". But inexplicably they didn't include among the choices "PC" or "Game", so two of my four inputs had to be left with generic labels.
And finally, the big issue with this set is the prevalence of very faint permanent vertical and horizontal "bands" in the image. This has been widely reported on other websites, so it is not just my set; it appears to be an instrinsic characteristic of the way the set is designed and/or manufactured. The bands are so faint that in most viewing situations you will not notice them. In fact the other members of my family aren't even aware of the issue, and I'm not about to point it out! But if you use it as a computer monitor where you frequently have a solid color displayed on the screen, you will notice a faint but clearly defined, almost plaid pattern of lighter and darker areas where you should see completely uniform brightness. The pattern doesn't move, suggesting that it is somehow related to the physical construction of the panel, perhaps the way the backlight is distributed, or maybe the way the panel is held in place. In any event, once you know it's there, you begin to notice it occasionally during normal viewing when the screen displays an area of solid color. I don't want to overstate this issue: my older 37" sharp doesn't have any "bands", but it also doesn't have the color richness, the deep blacks, the wide viewing angles, the fast response that make this new set so great. So on balance, I'd say even with this minor defect, I still consider the new set to have much better picture than the old one. But there is room for Sharp to raise the bar even further, hence the 4 stars instead of 5.

Panasonic TH-42PX500U 42-Inch Flat Panel HD-Ready Plasma TV Review

Panasonic TH-42PX500U 42-Inch Flat Panel HD-Ready Plasma TV
Average Reviews:

This model (Panasonic TH-42PX500U) is a lot more expensive than the Panasonic TH-42PX50U. The difference in prices in amazon for both items is a bit too much. This model is not available in most chain stores (Cicuit city, best buy etc.). A local store had both models and I could buy this model for a couple of hundred dollars more. I think for $200 more it is worth it, as it has the following advantage over the 50U.
1. 500 U has 6 speakers (2 bass-reflex woofers: 6 ohms, 120Hz-2Khz, 10%THD) (4 tweeters: 8 ohms, 500Hz-15Khz,10%THD) 26 W power. VS
50 U has 2 (16W, 6 ohms, 105Hz-20KHz 10%THD)
2. 500 U has BBE ViVA HD3D sound.
3. 500 U has a photoviewer (SD and PC card slots).
4. 500U has Sd card slot
5. 500 U has 2 rear and 1 front composite video input vs
50 U has only 2 rear ones.
6. 500 U has 2 rear and 1 front S-video input vs
50 U has only 2 rear ones.
7. 500 U has 2 rear and 1 front audio input (for video) vs
50 U has only 2 rear ones.
8. 500 U has PC input (RGB-VGA) i.e., mini D-sub 15-pin (rear)
9. 500 U has a audio input for PC (M3 stereo plug)
10. 500 U has a TV guide on-screen program guide.
11. 500 U has Picture-in-picture (split screen display -- 2 sources)
12. 500 U power consumpition is listed at 357 W and for 50U it is listed at 399W.
13. 500U dimensions: 28.7" X 44.&" X 5.4"
50U dimensions 27 39/64" X 42 3/64" X 3 51/64"
14. 500 U is 88.2 lbs; 50 U is 76.06 lbs.
15. The stand for 500U has a swivel but not in 50 U
So far i am very happy with my 500 U. My only wish was that it had two seprate inputs for cable and over the air programming.

Panasonic's 42-inch TH-42PX500U gas-plasma TV offers a 16:9 widescreen dimension to match the aspect ratio of your favorite feature films and an HDMI input for direct-digital connection with high-definition sources. Not that you necessarily need them--the 1366 x 768-pixel set's built-in ATSC (DTV) tuner pulls HD signals (480p/720p/1080i) right from the airwaves, and its QAM tuner is fully compatible with unscrambled HDTV cable reception. A standard analog NTSC tuner receives standard-definition (SD) programming.
The set's authorized CableCARD port means the set will also receive digital cable television systems services directly from a compatible cable operator without requiring a bulky, external cable box. You'll enjoy plug-and-play convenience wherever you are.
A plasma screen renders vivid colors like you've never seen before (as in, up to 8.85 billion in this case), extremely wide viewing angles (wider, even, than those of most LCD screens), and easy placement due to a plasma monitor's slim profile--just 5.4 inches--perfect for desk or wall mounting. Brightness tends to be extremely uniform across plasma screens, which are also impervious to the picture distortion and negative color balances that afflict CRT monitors when placed near lighting or sound systems.
The TH-42PX500U's contrast ratio is rated at an extraordinarily lifelike 3000:1, and its fine, 0.80 x 0.64 mm dot pitch means exceptionally smooth detail. With the 3D Y/C Filter you get minimized noise and cross color in your picture, providing you with a top quality picture, and the all-important quality you require from a large screen television set.
The High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) offers uncompressed digital data transmission between compatible devices, as between the TH-42PX500U and a DTV satellite receiver. JPEG images taken with a digital camera that stores images to a Secure Digital card can be viewed directly on the Panasonic with the built-in SD card slot. It also offers the following connection options:
Composite AV In/Out: 3 in (1 front)/1 out
S-Video In/Out: 3 in/0 out
Component video (YPbPr) In/Out: 2 in/0 out
HDMI In/Out: 1 in/0 out
RF In/Out: 1 in/0 out
Analog audio In/Out: 3 in (1 front)/2 out
Digital optical audio In/Out: 0 in/1 out
Headphones: xx
The TV's internal stereo speakers are powered by 13 watts per channel (26 watts total). Special surround processing creates spacious 3D effects from stereo speakers and a selectable audio leveler automatically adjusts the volume level on your TV to prevent wide variations in sound between different TV stations and types of programming. You'll also be able to enjoy 5.1-channel Dolby Digital surround sound via the digital optical audio connection, which you can hook up to a compatible home theater receiver.
Other features include split screen picture-in-picture (PIP), TV Guide On Screen 8-day program guide, V-Chip parental controls, on/off sleep timers, an illuminated remote control, and closed-caption decoding.

Sony SDM-N50 15" LCD Monitor Review

Sony SDM-N50 15 LCD Monitor
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
A great LCD monitor, but kind of pricey! For those of you who have a limited desk space, I would highly recommend this monitor cause you can adjust the angle and height, which hardly any other monitor manufacture has this adjustment. You will be questioned by many and few who will ask why anyone would pay [price]for this type of monitor and elsewhere you can get a Samsung 15" 570V TFT LCD Monitor and others!
Just say to them that the Sony monitor is able to be placed in a very tight, small desktop area, where space is extremely limited.
Also, this monitor comes built with stereo speakers to hook up to your sound board. Has bass boost, stereo wide settings, etc.
Would I highly recommend this to you, yes, if your needs are like mine where your desktop space is extremely limited and you want an LCD type of monitor!

With a wafer-thin screen, Sony's SDM-N5O monitor is perfectly suited for users with limited desk space. The screen measures a mere 0.5 inch at its edge, and the total weight is less than 6 pounds. The bi-flex arm supplies a variety of viewing angles, while two cool technologies--Digital FlexRes and Auto ImageSet--maintain clear color separation and crisp imaging from every point of view.
The single cord that handles the SDM-N50's audio, video, and power can easily be tucked out of sight, allowing you to achieve that old dream of a clutter-free workspace. The full 15 inches of screen provides the perfect-size view for users in a variety of applications, but where space is at a premium.
For users who enjoy their computer's audio functions as much as the video, the two built-in speakers are a real bonus. Fitted into the frame, they contain the expected Sony quality but consume little additional space. Two onscreen controls supply bass boost and wide-stereo settings, for a true home-theater experience. The other 14 onscreen controls allow users to easily customize their settings and choose from multiple languages.
Sony's limited warranty covers parts, labor, and backlight for a full three years. --Jill Lightner

Canon Optura 600 4.3MP MiniDV Camcorder w/10x Optical Zoom Review

Canon Optura 600 4.3MP MiniDV Camcorder w/10x Optical Zoom
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
In wanting to replace my old (JVC GRDVM90U) camera/camcorder combo, I looked at the Canon Optura 600 and the Sony DCR-PC1000. Consumer Reports claimed high return/defect rates for JVC models, so I steered clear away from purchasing another JVC -- especially since my old camcorder exhibited many of the same issues multiple people have documented in the GRDVM90U's reviews. Besides wanting to stick with MiniDV (for my old tapes' sake), what was most important to me in a replacement camcorder was 1) size, 2) still picture quality, 3) low-light ability, and 4) overall versatility. The Optura 600 delivered impeccably on all fronts. Size-wise, it is the smallest MiniDV camcorder I've seen on the market yet, although the Sony DCR-PC1000 appears to be a close second. What I liked about the Optura more than the Sony, however, was the overall design -- it felt more solid and compact as opposed to small, but long and narrow. I wanted to be able to tote something around fairly easily and unnoticably, and the Optura delivered. It was so small it fit easily in a small purse (along with other small gadgets, ie. phone and Ipod), and large pockets also made for a comfortable home for it. The still picture quality was probably the clincher in my final decision to go with the Optura over the Sony. One thing to note, however, is that the Optura 600 is 4.0MP, *not* 4.3MP. Regardless, its 4.0MP beats Sony's 2.7MP hands-down. Because it was important for me to purchase a camcorder that would also serve the purpose of a digital camera (why have one of each when you can have something that can do both well?), I went for the higher-end Optura. Also, Canon's Elph Series digital cameras have always appeared to deliver consistent, great-quality digital images (practically everyone I know owns some version of the Elph), and I felt more comfortable knowing that Canon's still-camera expertise would translate better to a camcorder combo than Sony's (last I heard Canon didn't manufacture TVs, amplifiers, and PCs, as well). In addition to having a more than adequate low-light function (sometimes, surprisingly, it makes dark shots brighter than desired), it has all the basic functions and features one would expect from a camera of this caliber (ie. special effects, video/picture transfer software, numerous manual and automatic settings, widescreen functionality, all the cables and connectors needed to hook up to your TV and PC, 10x optical zoom, etc.). The one and only thing that I did like better in the Sony was its built-in, retractable lens cover -- I found myself constantly fiddling with the plastic lens cover of the Optura whenever I unexpectedly came across a shot I just *had* to have. Other than that, I'm quite thrilled with my purchase and have not been disappointed yet. Design-wise, yes, it is a bit awkward (depends on the size of your hand and the dexterity of your fingers, really) -- but this thing is tiny, so there has to be some compromise in ergonomics. I've found this to be a minor point, as the Optura's style, design, and overall look more than compromise for the slight awkwardness that really only takes a little getting used to. I often get many comments from strangers in awe of it whenever I take it out to capture a moment, and that alone is almost enough to overlook its minor faults.

The Optura 600 delivers a superior level of performance in a luxurious, upright sculpted design. And, with its 4.3 Megapixel image sensor, advanced photo features, and Superior Canon Optics, you get incredible video and photos. It's a versatile performer for those with a truly versatile lifestyle. True Widescreen Video You want your memories to last forever- that's why you've taken the time to shoot them. And you want to shoot in widescreen format to get everything you can out of your new widescreen TV or home theater system. So why is the way you record widescreen images so important? Because you want an image made for widescreen, not adapted for widescreen. Widescreen is the future- every HD television is widescreen. Canon camcorders use the entire width of its image sensor to capture your precious video in true 16:9 format. What difference does that make? It's simple. With more pixels captured, you get better image quality. Other camcorders force the wider picture into a smaller space on the sensor- giving you a less true image, with fewer pixels and lower quality. On a Canon camcorder, the canals of Venice will be as grand as you remembered seeing them. In addition, the viewfinder on your Optura 600 will display the image in a "letterbox" view- from side to

Sony Bravia KDL-26S2000 26-Inch Flat Panel LCD HDTV Review

Sony Bravia KDL-26S2000 26-Inch Flat Panel LCD HDTV
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First, regarding the reviewer who is complaining that his TV was made in Mexico. Actually, this is false, they are just assembled in Mexico. The actual LCD is made in a factory jointly owned by Samsung and Sony. I believe the idea that Mexican labor is inferior is a position founded more in racial prejudice than anything else. This isn't Sony Mexico, its just a Sony factory using Mexican labor. Get used to it, Japan and the US arn't assembling electronics anymore---but the engineering is still top notch Sony---and its the engineering that you buy a Sony for.
Also, this TV functions properly as a widescreen LCD computer monitor. Before, when I had the el cheapo Polaroid TV, it didn't send the resolution information properly to my IBM ThinkPad. As a result, my computer refused to output a widescreen signal. With this TV, it works great.
This TV features a digital diagnostic screen that displays a ton of information about the station. It shows signal to noise ratio, frequency, and a bunch of other technical details you might need to adjust your antenna. Also, I picked up 21 digital stations with this TV, while the Polaroid found only 17. I also didn't have any problems with multipath.
This is one of the few HDTVs that includes both a broadcast ATSC tuner and a cable QAM tuner (without decryption from the Cable Card for HBO). The Samsung only has an ATSC tuner. Also, unlike the Samsung, it can recive complete program information and program guide information from digital stations.
In comparison to the Samsung, colors are far more natural. Faces and outdoor scenes look as they should. Samsung's DNe processor makes colors look like a cartoon in a side-by-side comparison. However, I realize the casual buyer is just interested in flashy, showy, exaggerated colors. Also, if you like to tweak color options, the Sony has a lot more than the Samsung. Black levels are very good. The light sensitive backlight option dims the backlight automatically in dim light. It seems to work pretty well and keeps the black nice and black.
Sound quality is pretty good, but who is going to spend over a grand on a TV just to use the internal speakers?? I'm sure anybody buying this TV has a stereo or surround sound system. Actually, the simulated surround sound option sounds pretty awesome.
The remote is also very simple, but actually, I really like it that way. I find that menu navigation is a snap. The only thing lacking is an input switch button. Switching inputs is a bit of a pain.
Things I don't like about the Sony: Two HDMI inputs would be nice. There isn't any Picture-In-Picture, but in my experience, this is more of a gimmick. One exception, however, would be if you wanted to play a video game and watch a TV program in the corner. Finally, it only has one RF input, so if you want to have cable and broadcast hooked up at the same time, you need to buy an external RF switch, as is described in Sony's manual. That brings the price up $25.
Most importaintly, motion blur seems to be a problem with this screen. Amazon's description essentially implies there is none. However, motion blur is quite noticable with rapid motion in video games or even HDTV programs. In fact, it seems worse than I remember with my el cheapo Polaroid HDTV.
Summary: It isn't cheap, but is the best general purpose television I've seen. If you are mainly interested in games, the cheaper Samsung might be the way to go, however.
One last thing, when I received mine from Amazon, it had a stuck red pixel in the very center of the screen. Customer service was very friendly, however, and took care of the problem quickly.

The sleekly styled, silver 26-inch Sony Bravia KDL26S2000 is packed with the latest high-performance video features, including a wide viewing angle, blazing fast 8ms response time (great for sports and action movies), and a wide color gamut backlight that provides more natural skin tones and highly accurate overall color reproduction. It also offers integrated HDTV capabilities (with an integrated ATSC tuner), digital HDMI video connectivity, and a bottom speaker design that helps save space. The thin profile of this Bravia TV accommodates VESA compliant mounting systems (separately available). The removable pedestal swivels 30 degrees left and right and also tilts forward 3 degrees and backward 8 degrees for additional placement flexibility. Like other TVs in the Bravia line, the KDL26S2000 uses Sony's Wide Color Cold Compact Fluorescent Light (WCG-CCFL) to display a color gamut almost 30 percent larger than a conventional CCFL display, which results in deeper reds, more vivid greens, and cleaner blues. It also offers a high response time (also referred to as refresh rate) of 8 milliseconds (ms), which is able to clearly portray fast-moving images across the screen with well-defined edges and without ghosting (streaking or shadowing). The set's Light Sensor feature intelligently adjusts the screen brightness to match the ambient light in a room, ensuring a comfortable viewing experience.

It also features the latest in Sony’s unique S-PVA (Super Patterned Vertical Alignment) LCD panel technology, which divides each sub-pixel into two segments per color for a more refined consistency in colors, contrast, and brightness at wide viewing angles. This seventh generation Sony LCD panel was specially crafted at Sony's plant and produced from one of the world’s biggest mother glass (a huge sheet of glass that can be divided to create multiple LCD panels).
The KDL26S2000 has a 1366 x 768-pixel resolution, 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio, 178-degree viewing angle, and 1300:1 contrast ratio. (The higher the contrast ratio, the greater a TV's ability to display subtle color details and not get washed out by ambient room light.) The Cinemotion 3:2 pulldown cinema video processing detects and compensates film--which is shot at 24 frames per second (fps) compared with video's 30 fps rate--to video for a smooth theaterlike experience at home. The 3D digital comb filter offers 10-bit signal processing that renders superb gradation of grays, resulting in superior picture detail.
Other convenience features include:
WEGA GATE Easy Operation Guide allows you to easily navigate to the most convenient TV functions: favorite channels, TV channel list, external input list, or settings.
Favorite Channels with the WEGA GATE function, allows you to navigate a list of up to 16 favorite channels without leaving the current channel.
Wide Screen Mode allows you to watch 4:3 normal broadcasts in wide screen mode (16:9 aspect ratio).
Parental Control (V-Chip) helps parents monitor what their children watch on TV by establishing rating limits.
Caption Vision/Info Banner allows closed caption and/or channel programming information to be displayed.
The Freeze Function temporarily freezes the picture in a separate screen while the programming continues to display, which can come in handy when you want to copy a recipe, phone number, etc. that flashes too quickly across your screen.
It pumps out 20 watts of audio power via its integrated bottom-aligned stereo speakers (10 watts per channel). It has a built-in Dolby Digital decoder (for connecting to a surround sound home theater receiver) and it can also produce SRS TruSurround XT virtual 5.1-channel surround sound from its two speakers. This set offers the following connection options:
Composite (RCA audio/video): 3 inputs (1 on the side)
S-Video: 2 inputs (1 on the side)
Component (Y/Pb/Pr): 2 inputs (with left/right audio jacks)
HDMI: 1 input (with L/R RCA audio connections)
PC: 1 D-Sub15 input (with L/R stereo mini plug connection)
RF: 1 input
Total audio inputs: 5 (1 side, 4 rear)
Analog audio output: 1
Digital audio ouput: 1
Headphone: 1

Tech Talk HDMI is a lossless, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface to link any audio/video source (such as a set-top box, DVD player, or AV receiver) with your TV--all over a single cable. HDMI supports standard, enhanced or high definition video, plus multi-channel digital audio on a single cable. It supports all ATSC formats--standard (SDTV), enhanced (EDTV), and high (HDTV).
Component video (also called Y/Pb/Pr) features a three-jack video input, which provides separate connections for luminance (Y), blue color difference (PB) and red color difference (PR). This results in increased bandwidth for color information, resulting in a more accurate picture with clearer color reproduction and less bleeding than you would get with S-Video or composite (RCA yellow video plug) connections. You will need a separate RCA left/right audio cable for sound.
TruSurround XT audio adds three new audio enhancement technologies to produce an amazingly immersive sound experience.
Dialog Clarity brings movie dialog into focus during the playback of any surround-encoded material to make speech much clearer and crisper.
TruBass creates incredible deep rich bass allowing a person to perceive significantly deeper, richer low bass tones that are far beyond the physical low frequency capabilities of the speaker itself.
The SRS WOW feature widens the soundstage by processing standard two-channel stereo material as well as multi-channel encoded material for a dramatic improvement in the playback of any stereo audio over a two-speaker system.
And in case you were wondering, BRAVIA is short for "Best Resolution Audio Visual Integrated Architecture."

Inside the color box we removed a projector, Lithium Ion battery, extra long VGA Cable, Composite/RCA Video Cable, RCA Adapter, User Guide, AC Adapter/Batter Charger, and a flexible stand. The AC adapter comes with international plug adapters for use abroad. FAVI seems to have made this projector with the traveler in mind so we thought it fitting to demo the PJM-1000 while on a commercial airplane flight.
RATINGS:
-USER GUIDE: 9/10. The user guide made setup easy with product visuals and simple quick-start steps.
-SETUP 9/10. User friendly device, very plug and play.
-DISPLAY: 8/10. Good colors and image quality. We would have liked to see a higher native resolution.
-BRIGHTNESS: 6/10. When compared to other pico projectors its brightness performed exceedingly well. Although when we compared its brightness to larger standard sized projectors it performed poorly. We recommend a dimly lit environment if attempting to project a picture larger than 40 inches.
-INPUTS: 7/10. On the rear of the unit there is a VGA input for connecting to a laptop/PC and video input for connecting to a standard video composite cable. On the side of the unit there is a DC-in to connect the AC power adapter. We were disappointed there was no HDMI input.
-ACCESSORIES: 9/10. Included in the box were all essential cables to connect to a laptop/PC and DVD/Video source. We were able to connect to an iPod touch and an iphone with cables that were not included. We found the extra long VGA cable and international AC Adapter to be a plus.
-VALUE: 9/10. We found it to be one of the lowest priced pico projectors on the market. Excellent value with its overall performance and low price point.-OVERALL: 8/10. Recommended. We highly recommend the PJM-1000 to any business professional or to anyone who travels.
