(More customer reviews)This is my third home automation controller in 17 years, and by far the best! I consider myself a hobbie home automation enthusiast, and have progressed through the early days of X-10, and early days of insteon control protacal, to this current state of the art. I have had the Isy-99IR running for 4 months now, and IMO, The issy is by far the best because:
1) It's network based, so it interacts with the outside wourld more intuitivly. It controls insteon replacemnt switches or plug in modules to control lights, I/O Thermoistats, etc. (see smart [...]) Add the Ilinc pro Iphone app, and you can control any light or switch or thermostat in your house from anywhere you can get 3g access. Ilink for iphone also lets you view program status in realtime to see whats active, or when the next scheduled run will be. This is helpfull when testing or troubleshooting programs! It also interfaces with the Venstar thermostats (with adapter from SH), to give you real time prgammable control of your heating (think home / away & day / night settings to save energy), or instant access to current tempature, humidity, of setpoints from afar. Insteon modules are also available for a multitude of other applications from monitoring for water leaks, to controlling wired in I/O
2) It's the simplist to program - Programs are done in an intuitive tree format, each branch carries out a very task specific set of instuctions that is much easier than the old seperat lines for the if, than ,or, else instructions. Commands are selected from a list by mouse click, and any can be changed intantly and resaved. If you have never worked with if/then logic, it will take a bit to get used to, but it is not so difficult the average person couldn't master basic programming in a short time. (I showed my wife where the tempature setpoints were entered, and she changed them!)
3) It's the most reliable I have used to date - Everything works, and the technical support, both direct and through the UDI forums is great. I'm not saying you wount have to do some reading and research, but what you cant figure out the Universal Devises technical support is outstanding, and can help you through stick points.
