(More customer reviews)I am really surprised that I am the first person to be reviewing these speakers. They launched about 4 months back, and I waited almost 3 months for atleast 1 decent review to come out somewhere before I put in my big bucks into this. But absolutely nothing came. No review. I convinced myself to get a Energy Micro...as I couldn't afford to be a pioneer myself :( As luck would have it...the store ran out of energy, which meant I ran out of options. Still no reviews...but I plunged in and ordered one.
Boy am I glad I did!
Setting up: Very easy if you are wall mounting or placing them on something. Speaker stands - make sure you get the right ones (more below). I used 14 gauge wires and they went in with élan! Suggest you guys use the same. All done in 30 mins.
Performance! I am using this with a new Pioneer VSX1120, without a subwoofer (bought a PSW111 as a bundle deal, but its got mixed up on delivery and will arrive in a few days). I have been listening almost 7-8 hours a day for the last 12-15 days. And I must say, I am super pleased and impressed. If i may describe the performance in 1 word, its - CRISP!. Never, ever in any store demo have i heard sound of such clarity and voice quality. I mean both movies and music. The dialogue / vocals are as clear as the subtle crack of a branch behind you! There's no empty sound...it's as if every tone/sound coming out of these has a purpose! Atleast 3-4 times I have looked out of the window to check whether its actually raining or was it just the sound.
Bass performance is very very credible and praiseworthy. I can say this because i have been using it without a SW. I still need one...since i am a base junkie, but boy! just these speakers in themselves so a commendable job of getting the low frequencies out.
My living room is quite big, more like a 15mtsX7mts, but these speakers fill them up quite effortlessly. The system takes about 50-70 hours of hearing to break up...so please be patient.
Build quality and finish - (5/5)These speakers are downright the best and the most awesome looking speakers with smooth, rounded edges, nice removable cloth grilles, and beautiful glossy black finish that complements the latest flat-panel HDTVs. Moreover, it just feels good to hold it! its so solid and sturdy.
Size - (4/5): These are not the smallest unobtrusive speakers money can buy. Mirage nano / mx and Energy RC would all be smaller. But what the heck...if wife approval is all that bothers you, this will get it.
Word of caution on Speaker mounts - the keyhole on these are pretty high up. I had bought myself an Atlantic Satellite 77305018 stand set which didn't fit these babies at all. Still used the same...but had to use some strings etc to hold the surrounds in place.
Mounts: Very solid threaded insets...just adds to your confidence on the build quality!
Overall, I am super glad i bought these speakers and want to be the first (sigh!) one to write a credible review about it. I am sure my satisfaction level will go up even more once I have the Subwoofer, but I strongly believe Polk has a winner this time in the TL series. Go ahead and hear it in your nearby shop or just get it!
