(More customer reviews)I've had a pair of Sennheiser PXC 310 Bluetooth headphones for a couple of weeks now. I've purchased many A2DP stereo Bluetooth headsets in the past and can say I'm a fair judge of the comparative sound and build quality as well how well they work as a useful headset.
Here are the pros and cons of this terrific piece of audio technology after using it nearly daily.
PROS:
- Very good build quality. Not as high as you might expect for the price but better than everyone else's except the top of the the line Sony BT headset.
- Nice big controls. Most headsets get this wrong and make the controls too tiny to adjust easily while biking or jogging.
- Amazing, truly mind-blowing sound. Extremely crisp, punchy bass and ultra clear high trebles. No other Bluetooth headset I've ever used sounds nearly as good. This is where the expense justifies itself alone in my opinion.
- Long battery life. This headset takes a listening and keeps on ticking. I recently ran it through an entire cross country flight. Can't be beat.
- USB charging. No need to pack another charger, this one has a mini-USB connector so you can use your laptop or existing USB charger.
- Talk through. A nice feature that allows you to talk easily without taking it off.
- A really good case. It's not a hard case, but it fits extremely well and has a useful accessories pocket.
- Folds down very small. Given that it's a full-sized headset, it's surprising how small it folds down to.
CONS:
- The Li-ion battery pack pulls out too easily. It's not a major problem but disconnecting it after charging often pulls out the whole battery. It's easily reinsertable but a device of this price should not have this kind of obvious mechanical flaw.
- Tiring on the ears after a few hours. This an ON the ear headset, not an OVER the ear and it grabs pretty tight if you have a larger head. Ear fatigue sets in after a couple of hours but is manageable.
- Active noise canceling doesn't seem very powerful. A huge attraction for those that care about audio quality is that it is noise cancelling, one of the few Bluetooth headsets to do so. It just doesn't seem to be very powerful, yet the sound quality is breathtaking even in a noisy plane so not sure this is really a big problem.
- The Bluetooth LED is big, bright, and blinky. You'll get stares if you wear it since it practically beacons its presence.
In short, I'd buy it again in a heartbeat and really hope they keep making these. Finally, the virtually perfect Bluetooth headset.
