Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)I have been using this product (the one advertised - not the pocket version) for a while now.
The bottom line is if you want a decent e-ink reader, to annotate PDF files or to write journals from scratch along side with a decent tablet, then this might be a good choice. But if you are looking for a recent (and fast) tablet with the latest Android installed; consider something else ( such as - Samsung Galaxy Tab, Archos 101 or ViewSonic g Tablet).
Pros:
- Nice to have 2 screens; one for browsing the net and running apps (resistive touch screen), another one for viewing docs and journals (e-ink screen)
- It has excellent set of external interfaces - 2 USB hosts, a mini USB, an SD card slot, 2 microphones (for lecture recording), stereo speakers, etc.
- The battery is replaceable and rechargeable. But If you put the device into the sleep mode , it drains the battery rather quickly. I do switch the device off when I am not using it. The battery life is quite decent.
- The e-ink screen is Penabled; that is you can use a special stylus (provided) to write on the screen. Your palm will not affect the screen (unlike capacitive & resistive screens). However, the e-ink screen is a bit slow. So when you are writing, you can see the lag especially if you are using a non-blank paper or when annotating a PDF document. By the way, I was able to use the stylus came with my HP tablet PC (Wacom Penabled).
- You can create and edit Microsoft Office documents
- The PDF document annotation is quite good. You can associate URLs, sound files, videos, etc, to the highlighted text in documents. You can insert lines, shapes and notes too.
- The tablet comes with a e-book and e-text-book library where you purchase and download regular and text books. It has also access to the Google Books web site.
- You can switch the e-ink and tablet screens (left to right and reverse)
- You can save a web page (as PDF) and edit/display it on the e-ink screen.
- The customer support is quite good and there is a company web site for blogs and forums.
Cons
- It is quite bulky and heavy. However, there is a packet version which is smaller and cheaper.
- It uses a customized Android interface and the Android version is 1.6. The company is not committed to 2.2 (and beyond).
- No Android Market - The provided app market has a few apps. But this is not a big deal for me as there are many web sites (like freewarelovers) that I can download apps from, but it might be an issue for some people.
- The built-in camera is quite crappy.
- There is no G sensor, so you need to rotate the tablet via a button. You cannot rotate the e-ink screen.
- The sound on stereo speakers is rather weak considering the size of the speakers.
