(More customer reviews)I ordered two of these units: one from Fry's Electronics and one from Amazon.com. An interesting note: while the skus were the same, the Fry's packaging was noticeably smaller than that of Amazon's.
The one from Amazon was DOA. I installed the i3-540 and a Corsair XMS3 4 GB Kit I also ordered from Amazon and the SH55J2 would not POST. Rather, whenever I pressed the power button, the fan would operate at ~150%. Holding the power button would not turn off the computer either--I had to pull the plug. After 3 rounds of this, turning the unit on again resulted in the fan operating at ~10% and still no POST.
The one from Fry's worked. Just to be sure my other components from Amazon weren't faulty, I installed the CPU and RAM and it worked very well. So for a full day I was able to use the SH55J2 without any problems. The SH55J2 was quiet and performed well. The next day, when attempting to save a PowerPoint Presentation, it froze. I power cycled but the SH55J2 would not POST. Every time I turned the SH55J2 on, it would turn off immediately, then turn back on a few seconds later.
So I have returned both, requesting a replacement from Amazon. I hope the third time's the charm. I actually do like the SH55J2 design, having previously owned a SN25P for 3-4 years before the power supply gave out. However, it should be noted both the quality control and quality of components used has suffered quite a bit. My SN25P is not as plasticky, and just generally seems better built.
