(More customer reviews)(Intro)I have a two year old and as such, I can't play some of the more violent video game console titles that I used to before he was born . Either my son is awake and so I can't have him see me fight aliens and world war II enemies or he is asleep and so the sound of the game is too loud that it will wake up while he is taking his nap. So I figured I'll pick up a small monitor to use with my Sony Playstation 3 just for games and to watch movies/tv shows from my PC as a 2nd monitor in the office. Since my primary reason for picking up this monitor is to play Playstation 3 games, the monitor had to be 1080p (1920x1080 native resolution) to avoid seeing black bars on the top and bottom of the monitor when playing 16:9 aspect ratio games or movies. So far, I am really happy with my purchase.
PROS
- Fast recycle time for games. You can really tell between this monitor and say my Dell 30" monitor I use for photo editing.
- Decent color output. I do wedding photography on my main PC so I know the difference between a great quality monitor and a budget quality monitor but all in all, for a budget monitor, it produces pretty good colors. I would not recommend this monitor for professional photography or videography as this monitor is only 6-bit monitor and so you will not get the full 16.7 million colors that you would get from a high quality monitor.
-HDMI and DVI inputs are seperate. Some budget monitors cut corners but combining the HDMI and DVI ports but this monitor has it seperately so you can have both your PC and HDMI device connected at the same time. I personally have my PC connected to the DVI port and my Sony Playstation 3 to the HDMI port.
-Seems like this monitor has good quality control. All in all, most people including myself seem to receive this monitor with no dead pixels.
-Built in speakers makes it convenient for those with little desk space.
-Very lightweight. I can't believe how little this monitor weighs compared to my Dell 3007WFP. I haven't attended a lan party in years but if I do, I'll definately be taking this monitor with me instead of the heavier Dell 30".
-Fast response rate. My eyes may not be the greatest but I can not see any ghosting during my game play. Movies look great as well.
-Headphone jack. This was the one requirement for me as I need to use headphones when my son is sleeping. Even when you connect an HDMI device, the audio from the HDMI device is passed to the headphone jack.
-Bright LCD. Great if you are working in a bright room.
CONS
-Panel is a 6-bit TN panel so the best for photography. Probably like 95% of monitors today are 6-bit monitors so this is not a deal breaker versus other similar priced monitors as it will also be TN.
-Speakers leave a lot to be desired. At this price, I wasn't expecting much. Average quality. Best to use good quality headphones if you got them for gaming.
-No height adjustment. Not surprising at this price but if you work for long hours in front of your monitor, you may want to purchase a monitor stand.
-Light tends to bleed from the top and bottom of the screen but this is also normal for monitors of this price range. After a while, you don't really notice it as much. It mainly stands out when you are watching a movie where the aspect ratio is not 16:9 and so black borders are created.
-Annoying input notice each time there is a handshake from external device to monitor. The Sony Playstation 3 often drops the signal when going into a game or some other Sony menu options so you see the message "HDMI Source" on the top left each time it does this but it's not a big deal.
-Menu button layout not the easiest to navigate, especially since they are not backlit.
