Apple iPod 20 GB Photo U2 Special Edition Black MA127LL/A (4th Generation) OLD MODEL
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Passionate iPod users know at least one thing about the iPod line-up, and that is they are always changing. The new full-size iPods have moved to an all-color line-up, and that is a good thing. The new 20 GB iPod with U2 branding includes a color display and is 0.06 inches thicker than its 20 GB monochrome-display predecessor. However, after a little use, the small increase in size does not seem significant. Plus, the bonuses are rich.
Apple first introduced the U2 iPod in the fall of 2004. At that time it was a 20GB monochrome-display version, and this has become the first update to the U2 iPod.
This 20 GB U2 iPod with color display has a battery that lasts three hours longer than the previous 20 GB with monochrome display. That brings the total to approximately 15-hours, which is great as it allows you to use your iPod longer in every day circumstances before charging, while also giving you the power needed to fly almost anywhere in the world, on a single charge. Compare this to some of the earlier iPods that had only eight hours of battery life.
What does the color screen add, for you might ask, "I'm listening to music, why a color screen?" Well, album art is one benefit. The iPod displays the album art, when playing songs, which helps create the feeling for the album. Furthermore, iTunes works with iPhoto on Mac and Adobe products on PC, in order to transfer your photo libraries to your iPod. You can then view your cherished photo libraries on the go, which might come in handy when you're telling the story of that huge fish no one seems to believe. However, the best part of iPod with color is that you can buy the optional photo adapter, plug it into the dock connector on your iPod, and transfer songs direct from your digital camera via USB. This allows you to move potentially gigabytes of photographs to your iPod, while on vacation, freeing up the memory card in your camera. This is truly a time and money saver! You can return from vacation with thousands of images that would have never fit on your camera's memory card alone. Finally, you can view slideshows of photographs, and even display them on television, with optional A/V cables sold separately.
Why has the storage not increased, when switching from monochrome display to color? Apple is obviously choosing to give you the features of a color display plus lower the price of the U2 iPod by $20, rather than increase the size of storage on the base iPod at this time, and it is a good decision! 20 gigabytes is an ample-size iPod, for almost everyone. Of course, if you need more than 20 gigabytes, you will need to choose a non-U2 branded model.
Mac or PC? This iPod works beautifully with either a Mac or PC. However, on a Mac, you'll immediately enjoy the synchronization of iTunes, your contacts, iCal calendars, Backup software, and of course iPhoto. On PC, you will have iTunes, but you'll need a third-party application from Adobe to sync photos the right way, while, you can find some shareware on the Internet that will allow you to sync other information, addresses, etc. that you might be interested in trying out.
Finally, Podcasting! The newest version of iTunes is 4.9, and it features Podcasting support. Podcasts are internet radio broadcasts, and there are thousands covering nearly every subject imaginable, and more are coming out every day. Podcasts are quickly becoming popular content on iPods around the world. Check them out, and this iPod supports Podcasts out of the box.
Appearance - The iPod is beautiful, but the back's chrome finish is prone to scratches, and the screen can become scratched as well. It is a very good idea to protect the back of the iPod and the screen in some way. The back of the U2 ipod includes the engraved autographs of U2 members, so you'll especially want to keep it, from getting scratched. There are many cases and protectors out there, and you will surely find something you like. It is possible the U2 iPod will always hold a slightly higher resale value than the traditional iPod, but the large quantities of U2 iPods made means it will not likely be the hard to find item that previous Apple/Artists partnerships were. The U2 iPod also includes a $50 coupon off a $200 U2 music set sold on iTunes, which will interest U2 fans. However, the U2 iPod is not for only passionate U2 fans. Some choose the U2 ipod, in order to simply have something "a little different," than others.
Overall, this is another excellent product from Apple Computer. The design is elegant, simple, and intuitive. It will provide hours of entertainment and convenience. Enjoy your iPod experience.

I ordered this Windows 7 touch tablet while waiting for months for the HP slate 500, which I have not received yet.
After I ordered, I realized that I had no clue who the manufacturer was, but I kept the order.
The tablet arrived in a few days, and, surprise, surprise, it works!
I have so much trouble with my Windows HP laptops at home and at work, so I was amazed that this tablet, which looks like an oversize iPhone, has a fast touch response.
The touch screen works best with my wireless mouse, because it seems it expects pinpoint input. It also works with finger tip and capacitive stylus, but I have trouble pointing accurately. In some cases, finger touch causes duplicate entries. I saw the same problem reported for the HP slate in a slate blog, at least by some users.
The tablet does not come with a relevant manual (generic was included), so I am not sure I am using the tablet input correctly, as I have not used a Windows touch tablet before. The screen dimensions, long and narrow, are a bit awkward, but using the tablet in landscape mode works well, because scrolling is relatively fast.
I have an iPad, and I mainly bought this tablet for Adobe flash content and Windows compatible programs. The tablet came with Windows 7 and Microsoft office 2007.
What about warranty? The seller told me there is a two- year warranty, through the seller.
The tablet came with a European rather than a US plug for the charger, and the seller responded promptly to correct the problem.
Based on interactions with the seller, I believe that the warranty will be honored, if the seller remains in business and can be reached.

This product is a fantastic replacement for any notebook drive, but be aware that if you are booting vista, because of the constant read/write procedures that are built in, you won't notice much of a difference in performance between this and a standard 7200 rpm drive. That having been said, its super reliable and if you boot another OS it shows a marked improvement. Also keep in mind that this is by no means among the fastest of the solid state drives available, but it is also significantly less expensive than others. If I could go back, I probably would have spent the extra to get a quicker drive, but ultimately if you are simply looking for something slightly faster than a normal hard disk and much more reliable, you will not disappointed with this product.

Zoom r16 Digital Stand-Alone Multitrack Recorder, with Tascam Vt1 Headphones; Microphone Cables and 10ft Instrument Cables Review

Zoom r16 Digital Stand-Alone Multitrack Recorder, with Tascam Vt1 Headphones; Microphone Cables and 10ft Instrument Cables
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I normally don't write gushing reviews, but I really love this little machine.
I got it last night and spent only a couple of hours to lay down a mix with 5 tracks. I have been looking for a digital means to do multitrack recording for our band, but it's always been too expensive. So the options were: either run a horribly bad live mix in a single stereo track to the laptop (mixed on the fly on one of my regular Behringer or Mackie mixers, but adjusted for the PA), or record one track at a time (which I could never get the band to do anyway).
I originally bought the recorder to work with DAW - I already have Live 8, and the recorder comes with Cubase as a bonus. But I found last night that mixing within the machine itself is pretty effortless too; bouncing tracks and layering a mix can all be done stand-alone. There's also a built-in insert and 2 built-in send/return FX loops (one for chorus/delay, one for reverb). There's a slew of built-in effects for these (i think several hundred) and room to edit custon effects. You can take the tracks and master that are the result right off the SD card, put it in the laptop for backups or MP3 creation (the recorder makes WAV files).
So it takes one major headache out of DAW recording that I've had before: the endless twiddling around with latency to get a fast enough USB I/O to overdub in real time. Now, even if there's some issue with the USB driver or with your laptop's speed etc, you can get the mix 90% ready on the recorder itself, then upload the master tracks in WAV format for post editing. It also means less cables, no waiting for PC bootup etc etc. The recorder runs on batteries, USB power or the included power adapter, so it's very flexible.
The machine is made of plastic, but feels pretty solid. In a trade-off of materials and convenience, it's a really good choice - my 16 track mackie is a real backbreaker, but this recorder can easily be lifted with one hand. The input connectors feel quite solid and 1/4" jacks click into place without any play - i actually had to pull quite hard to get them back out, so good connections.
Also very handy that it has 2 built-in condenser mics with stereo recording. They're decent enough to quickly record ideas on the fly, and it means you can carry the recorder anywhere without any wires, power supplies or cables, and record as inspiration strikes.
The only negatives I can find so far are:
- There's only one insert available. Not sure why this was done, since it should be possible to use a different one for every track, perhaps machine processor speed was the issue? In any case, you can always re-master on a laptop, and then use as many effects as you like. Plus, for live multi-tracking, chances are each player already has their effects of choice anyway, so you'll be getting those wet signals as inputs already. For studio recording, the good thing is you can run the insert to the headphones or output so you can listen with effect as you play, but you can actually record the track as a dry mix if you like, so you can change the settings later. You can also record wet.
- EQ is available per track but a little hard to access - while the faders are readily accessible, EQ has to be adjusted through the little keypad and display, and it's just not that intuitive, so you really can't adjust it well in a live setting (I think, haven't actually tried it live yet). It does have EQ gains on 3 or 4 frequency bands per track, with the frequency range adjustable per gain.
All in all, for the money this package costs, and the fact that it comes bundled with Cubase, 8 cables, an 8Gb memory card and a headset, it's pretty unbeatable!

I have to say that when I saw the price, I was a little leary in terms of whether to take a chance as many of the 'pico' pocket projectors are selling in this price range. I recently finished my basement for a mancave and was looking for a good way to watch football games, Blu ray movies and play video games. This particular Viewsonic was the solution to all of those issues - all without breaking the budget.
I currently have my PS3 running to the projector with the help of a VGA to HDMI converter (also purchased on Amazon - HDFury2) and absolutely could not be more pleased. The image side is approimately 150" diagonally and there would be no way without this product I would be able to accomplish the same thing with a regular HDTV.
The unit offers many different configurations which are easily manipulated through the options menu. The only draw back I have seen of this unit was that it has no HDMI inputs, thus causing me to buy an adapter to make things work. Other than that, I think this is one of the best deals on Amazon if you are looking to go home theatre!

Bose Companion® 5 Multimedia Speaker System Review

Bose Companion® 5 Multimedia Speaker System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
There's good and bad about the Companion 5, and most of the bad is just the nature of technology today.
The good is that the sound coming from two speakers and an "Acoustimass module" (read, "subwoofer with circuitry") is remarkably close to the sound you would get from 5 speakers and a subwoofer. The Bose system really does know how to 'fake' an acoustic space, and the circuitry somehow manages to figure out how to split out sound ranges: voices sound clear and crisp and seem to come from out of thin air in the dead center of your screen, ancillary sounds move all around the room through the left and right channels, and low-end whump is modulated well so that low notes don't all sound exactly the same. I've read that the lower-end 'Companion' series lack this degree of sophistication, so keep that in mind if you're comparing models.
The bad is that when it comes to computer speaker systems, you really don't have a whole lot of choices. Not many high-end manufacturers (that I have come across) go to the trouble of making a sound system that's geared towards a computer: top-tier quality in multi-speaker systems is left to the home theater crowd. While I'd hoped to see easy-to-find entries from Definitive, Yamaha, or Infinity, the computer scene seemed entirely populated by Creative and Logitech. Oh, and by the way, Bose makes a few choices.
Still, what an excellent choice the Companion 5 has turned out to be! I set this up on a laptop with integrated sound. It's in a corner that has a window behind the desk, a wall to the right, a larger window, and then the left is a wide-open entryway and there's about 15 feet of open space behind the chair. You'd think that would automatically foul the acoustics but somehow the Companion 5 keeps things balanced in this unbalanced environment. It was amazing to have a second person enter the room and not impact the spatial feel of watching a movie in Dolby Digital. Even sitting behind the user, your ears will get clean separation of sound (though not all the positional feel of someone in the front seat). Windows 7 has the ability to tune the acoustics of a room using the speakers and a microphone, but it turns out this is not only unnecessary, it tends to make things worse: all it seemed to do was crank up the right channel and almost completely mute the left.
Which brings us to perhaps the most important thing to know about the Companion 5: like any computer accessory, you need to fiddle with it to get it to work the way you want it to. Bose's manual seems to carry you just as far as getting everything connected (and their support FAQs seem to avoid doing more than regurgitate pages of the manual at you), so here's what you'll want to do to really get the most out of this system.
Regardless of whether you have a sound card or onboard audio, don't bother trying to use "environmental effects" or "audio enhancements" in your software. The Bose speakers don't connect to your sound card at all: rather than a typical speaker audio plug, they connect to your computer solely via a USB cable. This means that Windows and Mac both see the speakers as an "audio device"--as if the Companion 5 was its own sound card. If you see features in the Device Manager (or Control Panel, or audio software) such as "Bass Management", "Room Enhancement", or "Surround Simulation", don't enable or configure them: the Companion 5 takes the incoming signal and does all this for you, and changing the settings in Windows only gets in the way--we discovered the mid and high ranges were wiped out when these features were on and everything sounded muffled and cheap.
In Windows Vista and Windows 7, all of your "audio devices" are visible via the Control Panel ("Hardware and Sound" --> "Audio Devices"). Use this interface to specify the Bose Companion 5 as the default output device on your computer (right-click "Bose USB Audio" and choose "Set as Default Device"). This doesn't mean any speaker or headphone jacks don't work any more: because the Companion 5 is a USB device, removing it will automatically cause Windows to fall back on the next audio device in line. Though I have to say you probably won't ever want to disconnect the Companion 5: the controller knob comes with line in and headphone jacks, which means you can still use a headset whenever you want and get the quality sound processing of the Bose Acoustimass technology.
Now for the final tweaks: whenever you have a software package you use for playback (such as Media Monkey, PowerDVD, etc.), you'll want to pick a favorite song, play it, and tweak the software's equalizer to get the sound the way you like it. This sounds tedious, but it's not that difficult: dragging sliders for a couple of minutes gives you a pretty good feel for what sounds good and what doesn't. And once you save those settings, the player sounds just right, every time. If you're a Windows user, I also recommend you take the time to configure Windows Media Player's equalizer, even if you don't use Windows Media Player or Windows Media Center: something tells me that browser-embedded audio and video will benefit from these tweaks thanks to the Windows Media Player's kudzu-like infestation of the OS.
Physically, the Companion 5 is nice: the speakers are a bit dense, but stylish looking: they sit on sturdy posts and have a small enough profile to make them easy to ignore. The Acoustimass module is pretty heavy, but also fairly compact: about a few inches bigger than the Logitech Z530's control unit. Best of all, the controller for the speakers is a very classy-looking little wheel, about the diameter of a soda can. Volume is smooth and responsive with a light spin of the outer edge of the unit, turning on and muting is as easy as tapping the center, and the controller has two jacks(headphone and line in) for connecting a headset. The only real complaints about the Companion 5's form are:
a) the bass dial for the subwoofer is on the back of the Acoustimass module, which means lowering the bass will involve crawling on the floor; and
b) there is no "Off" switch: the Companion 5 will power itself down after "several minutes of inactivity", but there isn't any simple way to save energy by, say, tapping the controller.
If you love spending a lot of time in front of your computer watching movies, listening to music, or gaming, the Companion 5 makes a crowning touch to the experience. The Acoustimass technology really does manage sound smartly without the need for multiple speakers tucked away around your desk, and the setup is fairly simple (I'll gladly answer questions & offer help in the Comments section here). The documentation and support could have been a lot better, but with a little bit of first-time adjustment, this system will reward your efforts with excellent sound and minimal crowding of your desk.

I bought this refurbished. I installed eeexp from [...] because the factory xp installation was so slow as to ruin the point of having a handy, quick netbook. I highly recommend it if you're a tinker-er. Cool little computer overall, I would recommend at a $200 purchase price or less. Battery life is weak, although this hasn't been a problem for the way I use it.

I purchased this NAS for a mirrored backup of my data and to stream pictures, music and videos to a PS3 and a couple of laptops. It works great for these tasks. Setup was easy. I gave the NAS a static IP address, updated the firmware, changed the drives from RAID0 to RAID1 and setup a media server. It only takes a few clicks to change the RAID configuration through the web interface, but the actual re-sync can take hours. You can still use the drive during this process. It took 95 minutes to transfer 135GB to the NAS using a gig network. It bounced between 20-30 MB/sec, but the overall average was about 1.4 GB/min. Single file transfer rates are much faster, less than 30 seconds for a 1GB movie. That's plenty fast for me. Noise levels were on par with two hard drives spinning at full speed. The unit is silent at idle.

The PS3 and two laptops on my network (all wireless) see the NAS without any issues. Media Player and iTunes stream music from the drive without any lag. The PS3 takes up to 5 seconds to start playing a song, but that's a well documented PS3 wireless issue. Once playing there is no lag. Auto backups from two laptops and a desktop work great using SyncBack. I didn't install the bundled NOVAbackup software so I'm not sure how well that works.
For me the Buffalo LinkStation Pro Duo is the perfect balance of price and performance. For 2 6 0 dollars you get a 1.6GHz CPU, 256MB DDR3 RAM, 512kb flash, Gigabit NIC and two 1TB Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 hard drives. Not a bad deal. The 1.6GHz QNAP and Synology enclosures are faster, but almost twice the price after you buy the hard drives. The less expensive D-Link, Iomega and Netgear dual drive enclosures are slower in the reviews I read. Similar to the older Buffalo LinkStation Duo.
Overall I'm very happy with this product and would recommend it.

I am updating this review constantly so check back every so often to see any additional updates or new material has been added to this review. Also any new links are posted in the first comment following this review.
First, let me tell you I have read every single review about this camera on the Amazon website. I was torn between this camera and the Canon SX30IS 14.1MP Digital Camera with 35x Wide Angle Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.7 Inch Wide LCD and the new Fujifilm FinePix HS20 16 MP Digital Camera with EXR BSI CMOS High Speed Sensor and Fujinon 30x Wide Angle Optical Zoom Lens. I also looked at the Fujifilm FinePix HS10 10 MP CMOS Digital Camera with 30x Wide Angle Optical Zoom and 3-Inch LCD, but didn't like it because after the picture was taken it takes 3-4 seconds to process before another picture can be taken. I currently own the Panasonic DMC-FZ35 as well, and used it as a comparison camera with the DMC-FZ100. I am still in the process of comparing photos of both cameras with the settings exactly the same, and so far the FZ100 wins.
This camera has a an excellent 25mm Ultra Wide-Angle Lexica DC Vario-Elmarit lens w 24X optical zoom, high speed Venus Engine 3 core processor, full HD movie recording at 1920 X 1080 resolution at 60 frames per second, High Speed Video recording at 220 frames per second, the fastest level of burst shooting of any bridge camera at 2,5,11 (2, 5,and 11 fps at full 14mp resolution),40, and 60 fps, shutter release lag of 0.008 seconds (WOW!), 14 mp resolution, and the camera's quick response makes it easier to capture sudden, spur-of-the-moment photo opportunities together with the Sonic Speed AF (auto focus). Thanks to newly incorporated Intelligent Resolution technology, with the Intelligent Zoom turned on, the DMC-FZ100 has a camera zoom range of 1 - 32X, or a 35mm camera equivalent of 25-780mm at maximum 14mp picture size! No one makes a camera like this one! No one even comes close!
I have been in photography for many years. I've done wedding photography and sold some of my photos on line and to some local shops. I had a photography studio in my basement. I currently use a Nikon D90 as a DSLR camera. I enjoy the ease of taking a bridge camera with me instead of hauling the huge camera and bag full of lenses. I use the Panasonic cameras strictly for taking photos for myself as the quality is not the same as with the Nikon D90. Don't get me wrong. It takes a great picture! But you just can't compare a bridge camera to a DSLR. You can't compare the price either. MY D90 cost me almost $1000 and the lenses are just as expensive. Some cost way more than the camera body. Have you bought a 25-780mm lens for a DSLR camera lately? If they were available they would cost thousands of dollars! That's the lens equivalent of the Panasonic DMC-FZ100 with I-Zoom ON!
The Panasonic DMC-FZ100 is getting a lot of negative reviews about picture quality. I decided to buy the camera anyway and see if it could be useful to me. I liked the 35X zoom of the Canon SX30IS, but there are lots of negative reviews concerning its picture quality as well. The Panasonic DMC-FZ100 has many qualities and features that puts it above the Canon, but the 35X really pulled on me. I will explain the qualities of the FZ100 in a minute. The new Fujifilm Finepix HS20 really caught my eye! The main reason I decided against that camera is the zoom is manual and the price tag is much higher than the FZ100. The zoom being manual makes any video jerky while it is being zoomed. I looked at some of the videos taken with it on YouTube. Just do a search on that site.
The PDF manual for this camera can be downloaded from the Panasonic web site. Just do a search for it in Google. I put the link for the PDF in the comments section in case you want to download it.
I gave the camera an in depth checkout and came away totally pleased with it. Let me tell you all the benefits and features of this great camera:
What I like:
It has threads for filters. It takes a 52mm filter and they are readily available. Zeikos makes a 52mm polarizing filter Zeikos ZE-CPL52 52mm Multi-Coated Circular Polarizer Filter. I bought one for my FZ35 a while back. I also bought a more expensive Hoya polarizing filter and cannot see any difference between the Zeikos filter and the Hoya filter. Save your money and get the Zeikos.
The lens hood is included and uses a slot instead of screwing on. It is much faster to install or remove.
Some of the above cameras charge extra for the lens hood.
The camera takes JPG or Raw pictures or Both.
In the Video Mode, single still pictures or burst pictures can be taken just by pressing down on the shutter release button while taking the video. It takes a 3.5mp picture or pictures, up to 40 per video. To set up the burst mode just select it on top of the camera next to the main dial and set it up before taking the video. Page 110 in the manual.
In the Video Mode you can normally zoom to 24X. However if you select and turn on I-Zoom the camera will zoom to 32X. I-Zoom gives you 1.3X the normal zoom. The setting also gives you 32X in the Picture Mode (at 14mp picture size). It makes the camera in both picture mode and video mode equivalent to a 35mm camera 25-780mm lens! The picture quality in video or photo is not diminished in this mode. It says it on page 58 and 145 in the manual.
To turn I-Zoom on, just go to Menu, REC MENU, Page 3 (Change pages up by moving the zoom switch right, and down by moving the zoom switch left) , select I.R I.Resolution, then select I Zoom. After that, when using the Video Mode, instead of zooming to 24X, the camera will zoom to 32X. In the picture mode, the zoom goes from 24X in the 14mp Mode to 32X. If you set the camera in the 10mp picture size, the zoom goes from 24X to 37.9X. Now the camera is actually zooming in more than the Canon SX30IS! The best part! Using the I Zoom and Extended Optical Zoom does not degrade picture quality at all! Go to the manual on page 58 and 145. It tells you that right in the manual!
I-Zoom = Multiplier of 1.3X
Extended Optical Zoom with I-Zoom ON
14mp = 32X
10mp = 37.9X
7mp = 45X
5mp = 54X
3mp = 67.4X
I used the camera at 3mp (67.4X) with the Olympus 1.7 teleconverter to get a total zoom of 118X, and took a picture of the moon with just a monopod. It filled the whole screen without cropping. It can be seen at the web site listed in comments. The picture looks great! I will be taking another with a tripod when the moon is full, and will post it as well. The camera has a live Histogram which the FZ35 has as well. To turn it on, go to MENU, SETUP, Page 3, HISTOGRAM, and turn it ON.
The camera will take 5 quick flash shots! To do that, just put the top main dial to SCN Mode, and select FLASH BURST, which is on the second row! The FZ35 does that too. While we are in the SCN Mode, in a dim setting like inside at night, select the CANDLE LIGHT Mode, It really brightens up the picture! Better yet, at night in tough lighting, select iA Mode (Intelligent Auto) with the camera main dial. It does a great job in dim light, but you will sacrifice some noise! Also note in SCN mode, go to the second page of the menu and select HS Mode for High Speed Video to take those fast action videos that you want to get great slow motion detail in. The speed is 220 frames per second!
460,000 pixel 3 inch LCD, which extends and swivels. You can even take a picture of yourself and see what it is going to look like before you take the shot. Just extend the screen and rotate it 180 degrees.
DIFFERENT COLOR MODES = Page 132 of manual
The camera has several different color modes.
STANDARD: The standard setting
DYNAMIC: The saturation and contrast are increased.
NATURE: Brighter red, green and blue. Enhanced beauty of nature.
SMOOTH: The contrast is lowered for smoother and clearer color.
VIBRANT : Higher saturation and contrast than DYNAMIC.
Makes the colors snap out at you!
There are a couple of others.
To Set the COLOR MODE go to P or A or S or M mode on the main dial, press MENU, then FILM MODE, then push the right button on the MENU SET switch to cycle through the various color modes. Once in a mode, scroll down and set the CONTRAST, SHARPNESS, SATURATION, and NOISE REDUCTION. Once set, press the MENU button again to save it.
By going to the FILM MODE (MENU, REC MODE, Page 1, FILM MODE) you are able to customize your setting of CONTRAST, SHARPNESS, SATURATION, and NOISE REDUCTION and set it on a custom menu. Just select your settings and continue scrolling down to Memory and set your custom menu there. It has a flash shoe, and uses Panasonic Flashes. There are three to choose from but they can get real expensive! Overall this seems to be a decent screen and a good value. I've only had it for a few weeks, so I am not qualified to comment on the longevity of the motor or associated mechanical parts, but so far, so good. The image quality seems good, it was easy to install, and operation is easy using the wired-in control box. Now for my complaint: this thing comes with, by far, hands down, the world's worst remote control(s). Maybe this seems like nitpicking, especially at this pricepoint, but still... First off, the remote uses one of the tiniest batteries I have ever seen outside of a watch - size 27A - so good luck finding a replacement at your local convenience store. 2nd - the battery does not fit securely in place when inserted in the remote (it just sort of "floats" in between the springs for the battery contacts) so the battery comes loose at the slightest vibration, which is compounded by the fact that you can't access the battery unless you unscrew a tiny screw - so keep that eyeglass screwdriver handy. Luckily, it comes with both a RF AND an IR remote, so you can use your IR remote to "teach" a universal learning remote - as long as you can get the included IR remote to work long enough to do the teaching process. I finally got the Elite remote to work long enough to teach my universal remote - but it requires lots of patience while I moved the battery around until it hit "just the right spot." If you don't have a universal remote, factor in some extra money to buy one at the same time as the screen - otherwise you might heave the included remotes out the window before you have a chance to teach the codes to your universal.
As I said, overall this screen is a great value, and the screen itself seems to be well put together and solid. In the end, it's just a remote control - I would still buy this even knowing what I know now - but I needed to vent on this subject, if only to keep any other potential customers from being disappointed. Hope it helps, and happy viewing.

Acer Aspire Timeline AS4810T-8480 14-Inch Aluminum Laptop - 8+ Hours Battery Life Review

Acer Aspire Timeline AS4810T-8480 14-Inch Aluminum Laptop - 8+ Hours Battery Life
Average Reviews:

Weight: At 4.2 pounds I wouldn't call it light as air but it is very portable and I have no problems carrying in hand. If it's in a backpack I hardly even notice it there. My books are heavier and more cumbersome. The slim design definitely helps in making it that much more portable also. If you want something that so light it wows you every time look for a laptop weighing 3.5 pounds or less. Again, I have no problems carrying this laptop around with me all day. I weight 135 lbs as a reference point.
Battery: This is really where it shines. You really do get a little more than 8 hours if everything is turned down. But since I don't work for 8 hours straight on a laptop I turn up the brightness, stream video, browse websites, use Word, listen to music and still get an amazing 6 hours plus. The AC adapter is small and light weight if you need to carry it around.
Design: The lid is made of aluminum and unfortunately is a finger print magnet (maybe I just have oily fingers). The notebook is in a very conservative gray. It won't turn any heads but that's perfect for me in a meeting or in class. The keyboard is flat surfaced but feels great, took almost no time to get used to it. Overall the notebook feels very sturdy with a little bit of flexing if I press hard on the side of the keyboards. Hinges have a good feel to them.
Performance: It won't play 3D games nor can you do intensive video editing but it's more than fast enough to do your basic tasks. Basic meaning email, web browsing, music, occasional DVD, using Microsoft Office 2007. I can have Office, Firefox with multiple tabs and music running with no slow downs at all. This is probably 80% of consumers anyway. It also loads and runs Photoshop just fine. However it will not run YoutubeHD since it is flash based and depends solely on the processor. DIVX and videos codecs that can offload to the GPU work just fine. I was able to watch videos in 720p just fine.
Important notice: You MUST MUST update the video driver, LAN driver, and Bios to get it to function correctly. The initial drivers caused the machine to run very slow and crash often. After the update it runs perfectly. If I could take a half star I would. I ended giving it five stars because it comes with a free upgrade to Windows 7, which makes this machine last even longer, run even faster, and would not have had the initial driver problems. Can't wait for the retail release!

I purchased this Panasonic Viera 37" LCD with Ipod Docking station 2 weeks ago. Beautiful clear picture, awesome sound and I love the fact that you can connect your Ipod or Iphone to it and play your music directly from your television.I also love the SD card slot, makes looking at your pictures so much nicer than on the computer, which you can also hook up. I thought the price was fantastic on Amazon, I priced it at several other online stores and department stores, and you can't beat the Prime shipping, got it quick and the delivery guy brought it in took it out of the box and made sure everything was perfect. The only complaint I have is with the manual the directions for the Viera link are somewhat elusive, I'm still trying to figure that one out, especially if you are using a remote control from your digital cable company as opposed to the remote that came with the television. I have purchased Panasonic products in the past, and have always found them to be well made and long lasting. I would definitely recommend this TV for someone who is looking for a second set for the family room/den which is where ours is.

Acer Computer Aspire AS5542-5416 15.6" Notebook PC - Gemstone Blue Review

Acer Computer Aspire AS5542-5416 15.6 Notebook PC - Gemstone Blue
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Purchased here (via J&R), great price on a bluray packing 15" laptop. 16:9 screen is great for watching movies. Screen looks great, watched Ratattouie (Pixar) DVD and The Bank Job bluray. Both movies looked great. Sound is Dolby Digital, and sounds great on headphones. Built in speakers sound terrible. Via even a cheap pair of headphones, the sound is superb. I heard sounds on Ratattouie that I never heard before.
Here's some good news: The HDMI port supports both video (duh) and Audio! Yay! When connecting the HDMI to my receiver, the ATI video driver popped up a warning that Audio is not supported. But clicking "help" opened a page basically saying that this is a generic message to warn users that a video card prior to Radeon 2xxx series does not support audio over HDMI, but anything later (including the one on this laptop, the 4200) DOES in fact support Audio. And a quick test (of those two movies) proved that it was Dolby Digital 5.1 sound. The included movie player from Acer sent 1080p and 5.1 sound out the HDMI, and it seems that MS Media player did too. So no additional software is needed to output to 5.1 with both BR and DVD. One final note on movie watching: The Acer movie player worked flawlessly, but when I tried MS Media Player, it stuttered often and was annoying. Figures. So stick with the included (and set as default player) Acer movie player.
Gaming is NOT recommended. I grabbed the first game disc I had lying around that I had both the disc AND the install key (always hard to find both when you need them), and it was Call of Duty World at War. It was awful. At the default 1024x768, it was an unplayable slide show, and at the lowest settings (640x480 and every possible feature set to low) it was still an unplayable 5-10 fps. So that was disappointing, but not a show stopper as we already have two high-end gaming computers in the house, and really what did I expect for under 6 Benjamins?
I purchased this primarily to have a portable Bluray playing laptop and it fits the bill perfectly. As of this writing (2/1/2010), it is the cheapest Bluray playing laptop on Earth (or that I could find anyway, and believe me I spent/wasted a lot of time searching!).
I have another 2-year old Acer Aspire, also a 15" widescreen, that is heavier with a worse keyboard than this model. I really am happy with the fit and finish of this model. The added keypad makes the keyboard sit left-of-center, which takes a little getting used to, as does the multi-touch touchpad, which is sensitive and hitting it accidently with a 2nd finger causes the mouse to jump around. The vertical scrolling feature on the right of the pad isn't very accurate (had the same problem on my older Acer). We use Toshiba laptops at work and their scrolling feature is definitely better.
Some other non-issues: not many stickers. Not much bloatware at all. Comes with MS Works SE, which DOES read and write word and excel files (you just can't set those as the default save/open option). Works SE is advertised based but it gives you the option to purchase the non-ad version. MS Office Student is 60 day trial. The 320GB drive is a single partition (yay!).
That's about it. A great deal on a bluray laptop that works great.

Peerless SGLB01 Universal Floor Stand with Clear Glass Shelf for 32"-50" Displays - Black Review

Peerless SGLB01 Universal Floor Stand with Clear Glass Shelf for 32-50 Displays - Black
Average Reviews:

I purchased a Peerless SGLB01 Floor Stand for a 46" in samsung LCD, and it turned out great. Then I bought another for an LG 47LH40, only to learn halfway through setup that it is not compatible with this particular 47" TV. This stand's mounting bracket supports either universal brackets or VESA 100 X 100. My LG requires VESA 200 X 200, so right now I'm stuck with a stand that won't mount my TV, even though it fits their specification of being between 32"-50". What a bummer!
I called peerlessmount's tech support and they told me I could buy the plp-v2x2 mounting bracket adapter, and that would make it work. That sounded ok until I looked on their website and found that it was $130. The entire TV stand was only about $250, so this seems like highway robbery to me. If I'd known the cost of this stand was effectively going to be 50% more, I might have chosen another stand.
In all fairness, if you go to the peerless website, you can type in your TV's model to find out if it's supported. But I bought it on amazon, and there's no such option there. If you do buy this stand, make sure you check for compatibility. On the other hand, my first TV was not listed as supported either, and it turned out to be supported, so their list isn't the best source of information. Better would be to find out what mounting system your TV supports and make sure the stand also supports it. I'm new to TV mounting. I guess I'm learning the hard (read expensive) way. No help from peerless or amazon there.
On the bright side, the TV stand does look good, assuming it's compatible with your TV!
Update: It seems you can find peerless adapter for around $65 if you shop around. It's strange peerlessmount's site causes twice as much for the same product.
